"Great hotel - beware of making any changes though."
Great hotel, all went well until we asked to stay one more night, and were placed in a room different than what was agreed with the night clerk. (whom unwillingly eventually half admitted that he may have made an error) Oh well, just get it in writing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel was decent but nothing extravagant. Lorena, the receptionist/clerk, was very welcoming and helpful. I have to admit, even though the place was a little run down, I found that I grew to like it. It had a bit of a quirky feel with the odd setup of stairs in our room. Grocery store right across the street, good restaurants withing walking distance, and bus stop just across the street. Beach is a 5 minute bus ride away. Went to the national park in the morning and by 1pm it was getting crowded and too hot. We headed back to the hotel to enjoy the afternoon by the pool. We had the pool to ourselves and were able to watch a sloth climbing a tree for over an hour. Overall pleasant experience.
"Wonderful staff and cute hotel"

After a bad start to our stay in Manuel Antonio...we went to the tour desk next to Mandarina to ask for some advice for a new hotel. The tour desk took us to reception and we were so happy to have stumbled to a cute boutique hotel. We found the rooms to be modern, comfortable and clean. The staff were super friendly with great recommendations of things to do and where to eat. It was a great location...great places to eat within a short walk, supermarket and atm across the road and bus stop just outside. The pool and recreation area was great after a day of activities and we even saw a sloth! Breakfast was yummy and served till late. We thought this was a grest hotel and excellent value for money. Ps..for those reading about Lots of steps...we didnt have a problem. There are about 20 in total!
"good location- really nice"

Good location- close to amenities, several restaurants and the bus stop. Room was very clean and good size. We had some difficulties operating our shower. Nice roof terrace with good sized pool Good breakfast as long as you don't want a buffet Friendly staff who speak good English. Made excellent recommendations for activities. Definitely recommend staying here Near a busy road but no problems with road noise at all
"Watch out here - please read it all - underground room with poor AC"

If you want to sleep under ground - our room "K" was under ground, had a dehumidifier and AC - but here is the problem: You can not run these when not there, so when you do come, it takes hours for these to get the room near to being comfortable. Awful awful, they are so loud you can not sleep, but it's too humid and hot to turn them off. Steps (many) to go down to your room, the pictures online are really a stretch - I tried to see where they took them but couldn't. This place is old and run down. WITH IN TEN MINUTES OF BEING THERE OUR FRIENDS HAD THEIR CAMERA STOLEN FROM RECEPTION: They went to tell the driver good bye and the camera was gone.... of course no one knew what happened to it. Breakfast is average but late served, steps all the way to rooms, into rooms, choose another place than this We traveled here from the US and was very disappointed - after two nights we left and went to another hotel.

My family and I stayed in the Aptartment room at Hotel Mandarina. Quite nice apartment, but located right next to the main road (noise). In generel the hotel - and especially the swimming pool - was dirty and quite worn out. The staff was friendly and quite service oriented. The "non-buffet" breakfast was ok, but nothing to celebrate.
"Quirky room and lots of stairs but otherwise, charming."

On the plus side: quiet and secluded atmosphere even though it's just set back from the highway a little. Small but nice pool. Very decent hot breakfast. Friendly and very helpful owner/innkeeper. Cute, open sky shower. Very clean. On the not so plus side: Lots of stairs- getting to rooms-getting back to lobby, and more getting to pool area and breakfast. NOT a good option for someone with difficulty on stairs. No table in the room although there was a little high counter top and some tall stools to sit on. No place to hang anything like a towel or swim suit. No drawers or shelves so we had to remain living out of our suitcases. I did mention to the owner (who has only had this property about 14 months) that some hooks and shelves would be an inexpensive way to make a huge difference to guests and she seemed to take my suggestion well. We only stayed 2 nights and that was enough.
"Go to Bilbos instead"

First the good: nice pool and garden, the breakfast is OK, WiFi in the pool area. The receptionist lady speaks good English, the room is clean, the location is good-next to the bus stop and the grocery store. A few places to eat around, very close. There were almost no people at the pool area, even though we went at the highest season, quiet. Nice flat screen TV, a lot of channels, all Spanish. Small fridge and coffee machine in the room. Cons : the bathroom is very claustrophobic, cheap and feels not so clean. There is no place to put your towels. The air conditioner is not very efficient and it is noisy-can not be left overnight. The room is very dark and kind of depressing. Breakfast starts at 7 am and one lady prepares it and serves the tables. If you go on a tour or depart between 7-7:30 you miss it. All other hotels in Costa Rica have their breakfasts start time at 6 AM. During our trip we stayed in 4 different hotels and Mandarina was the most expensive and the worst. If you will stay in your room only for sleep, probably will be OK.

stayed in a studio apartment, which was a nice size room/bathroom but only had a mini-fridge, no other kitchen appliances pros: pool/deck is surrounded by nature (we saw a sloth in a tree) which is great good breakfast (but annoying that its not buffet like most other hotels and you have to choose between coffee/juice) game room with ping ping table and billiards short/ very cheap public bus ride to beach (not safe to walk since theres no sidewalks) across to street from supermarket and close to restaurants cons bed not so comfortable (but most are not in costa rica) our a/c started to leak at night and there is no staff there past 9pm, only a guard who didnt speak english, which was very frustrating, though they fixed it in the morning warning: lots of stairs to navigate to get around the property
"Not bad, quite nice"
01/26/14 AEROSTEPH_PARIS Paris, France
The hotel was a bit surprising at first sight, (small entrance, tiny reception) But all the rooms are actually in the backyard, on a hill surrounded with jngle-like vegetation ! The room was OK but too many stairs down then up. Airconditionning quite Noisy and difficult to properly set. Fridge was great Coffe maker but... no coffee The room was not really big but sufficient. The breakfast was a bit scarce (coffee OR orange juice ; Toast OR gallo pinto, ONE egg...) which is so different from many hôtels in other places we stayed during our trip. The location was great : away from Quepos, close to grocery store, restaurants with outstanding view, and a few min drive from Manuel Antonio Park. And it is not cheap, but I guess no hôtels are really cheap near Manuel Antonio...
"Great location, cute rooms"

This hotel was the risk of our trip (as it had some mixed reviews on tripadvisor) but we really enjoyed it here! Lorena the manager was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were small, but cute and the pool was sufficient. The real benefit was the location, as it was right across from a supermarket and right next to the best restaurant in manuel antonio (la milagra). Also a good amount of bars are right in this area as well. It is a 5 minute cab ride down to the beach area (and national park) and it is super easy to get a cab. Best of all breakfast was made to order every morning by the pool which we really liked. Only negatives was the bed was slightly uncomfortable and the AC was very hard to regulate (either super hot in room or freezing). Other than that we really liked it here and definitely recommend it
