"Great stay at H. Mandarina"
Family of four stayed at the apartment at H. Mandarina. The apt was clean, comfortable, overall cool, had a kitchenette... essentially everything we needed for the last leg of our trip in CR. The delicious breakfast was included! The price is high but it's worth all the commodities and location.

"Outdated facilities"
The location is good, close to Manuel Antonio Nacional Park and it is a quite place, where you can rest. I liked the breakfast and the staff saved it for later since I had to be out very early in the morning and came back after breakfast time was done. They even took it to my room which I appreciate. On the other hand, for the price I payed I was expecting better facilities and was disappointed; it is highly overpriced and it definitely needs a lot of maintenance (cleaning, painting, upgrading). There's a game area that is not really inviting and it looks really old.

"Great hotel close to beach and restaurants"
This hotel was great and the room was very comfortable with AC, wireless internet, and a good sized shower. Nearby were several restaurants, a grocery market, and a beach (drive and pay the 4000 colones to park, don't walk - the hill is not fun to hike back up.) About a 5 minute drive to Manuel Antonio national park or Quepos, and about an hour from Jaco and Carara national park.

"tropical vacation"
It was everything I had expected. from reading some of these, people still expect hotels to be like USA. the first room we were supposed to get the safe didn't work and they moved us into the room next door. the very interesting thing of this room was the shower was exposed to the outside which was neat, not that anyone could see you just the roof was open air about 3 feet from the shower head. AC worked and they also had a fan, no problems. because it was the green season the hotel was slow and we had the hotel to our selves. walking distance to a few places and they have parking for our rental car and a security for over night. I would stay again and the stairs weren't a problem.

"If you don't expect a resort, you will be happy."
My husband and I stayed here because we couldn't afford to stay at the resort down the street, where our friends were staying. We knew coming here that it wasn't a resort. Don't expect a resort, and you will have a lovely time. Breakfast in the morning was the best part - homemade on the spot, delicious, and outside, surrounded by the forest, flowers, and monkeys! The room itself was very basic, but did was it was meant to do. I brought my own pillow, for which I am thankful (but I'm a very picky and difficult sleeper). They didn't change sheets and towels unless requested - so just remember you have to go to their office to request that. The office closes at 9pm, so make sure you take care of any questions or concerns before that. They don't have a shuttle to and from the beach (which is a 20 minute or so walk, and a big hike back up), but we walked to our friends' resort and used their shuttle. There is a bank right across the street if you need to exchange money - they had the best rates I found. But just about everyone in the area is bilingual and takes US dollars. There is also a market next to the bank, where we bought our drinks. We made a rule not to bring any food into the hotel room, since there are so many bugs and wildlife around. Our AC worked fine. We basically were only in our room to shower and sleep. It's not a great spot for just hanging out, but overall, we were very satisfied.

"Nice hotel close to everything"
Staff very helpful. Within 3-4 minutes by car to beach & Manuel Antonio Natl Park. Directly in front (across the street) of a grocery store. Within 2 minutes by car to a variety of nice restaurants. Located on mountain side of the road (as opposed to ocean side). Rooms at the back of the hotel make it for a quiet night. Hotel grounds and rooms contain several stairs so it may not be suitable for people with disability issues.

"Very nice staff"
We arrived very early before check in time. We were given a place to leave our things and to freshen up and also given breakfast before we had even checked in. It was really appreciated after a long overnight flight. The food was good and the service even better! There were monkeys everywhere!!! We took pictures right out our front door!!

"Great hotel - beware of making any changes though."
Great hotel, all went well until we asked to stay one more night, and were placed in a room different than what was agreed with the night clerk. (whom unwillingly eventually half admitted that he may have made an error) Oh well, just get it in writing.

"A more expensive hostel"
The room had 2 sets of stairs. 3 stairs to enter the bedroom area, a king-size bed, no chairs, one small table, a small "dorm-room" refridgerator, a TV the size of a computer monitor, one small wardrobe and no drawers. A small window airconditioner. The bath was tiny; a walk down 3 stairs to enter, a single sink, no counter, the toilet nearly required one to put their feet in the shower to sit down.

"Hotel suitable for back packers"
I would never stay at this hotel again. Worst hotel I ever stayed at. We had to climb down 67 stairs to our room and than climb up another 10 stairs to our room. No phone in the room to call front desk if you need any thing. Not enough towels in the room. The price we paid for two days was high for the quality. Water in the shower was cold on both days.

"Cute hotel, just needs some new updates"
We stayed here because it seemed to be the nicest hotel in our pricepoint (about 120/night) in the area. It was just ok, but there were some nice things. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast is served out by the pool and cooked fresh for you every morning, which was awesome. The shower (in our room "E" anyways) was half open air, which was pretty cool. The pool was tiny but nice. This hotel has a lot of potential, but just needs a little updating and touching up. The light switches were filthy, the old sliding shower doors were kinda gross, there wasn't a real door to the bathroom, just one of those plastic sliding door things, which was broken and cracked. Those things were really all cosmetic, but the bed, whoa, was that bed hard as heck! Neither my husband or I got great sleep bc of the bad mattress. The hotel is very close to a bus stop that will take you to Manuel Antonio beach for cheap. IAnd walkable to restaurants and other hotels. The parking lot is tiny but sufficient and they have a guard at night. Overall our stay was not bad. If we return i would like to find a hotel on the ocean side of the road, and one with a softer mattress!

"Nice hotel with rainforest ambiance"
This hotel had wonderful and helpful staff. Breakfast was included and was very good. There was a nice pool for relaxing but it wasn't too deep or large, it's more for lounging than swimming. The nice thing about the hotel was that there were facilities to cook if you wanted to have a group bbq. There was also a ping pong and pool table. The only issues are that there were a lot if stairs so I wouldn't book it if that could be an issue. The room was pretty solid and the shower was huge.

"Nice Hotel"
The hotel room was really spacious. We were upgraded to the Apt which was really nice. The hotel is not at all walking distance to the beach. We had a car so it was not an issue as it is just a 5 minute drive to the beach. However, walking to the beach is not recommended as you have to climb a steep hill while coming back. Rooms were very clean and comfortable.

"Hotel Mandarina"
I stayed at this hotel for one night and it was nice. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good, and the pool/breakfast area was very pretty. The entrance to the hotel looks very basic, but when you go back to the room and pool area, it feels like you are in a secluded area with so many plants and trees. The rooms are relatively large; the bathroom is a little small, but overall, it was a nice place.

"Location"
It's at the top of hill opposite a bank and small supermarket just up from the bus stop (350 cc per trip) 10 mins from the beach front. Breakfast is great with good variety in a nice setting. The staff are helpful and they even offer the use of free beach towels. For dinner or lunch try Emilios cafe down the road next to the bank off the main road, amazing views and great sandwiches to take away for lunch and a good seafood dinner.

"Not as close to park as led to beleive"

This is an decent place. The staff were nice and the breakfast was simple but good. The pool and grounds are kept pretty nice. Just know that the location is not as close to the beach and park as google says! It is on the main road between Quepos and Manuel Antonio on top of hill. If you have children be prepared to take a bus or cab.

"Below Expectations"
07/25/15 Bishopburr Desert Hot Springs, California
The rooms are clean, with free breakfast and wifi. My biggest complaint is the bathroom. The toilet was so close to the shower and wall, that you have to sit sideways to do your business. My wife and I are short people, so I cannot imagine a tall person using this bathroom. Just a word to those that have never visited the area. This area is expensive, when you compare it to other areas in CR. Very touristy area, so we were not impressed. Just our preference. There are great restaurants in the area with beautiful views. When visiting Manual Antonio National park, please do yourself hand hire a guide. I promise you will see so much more than you would if you hike alone. negotiate the price of your guide. They wanted to charge $40.00 per person. There were eight in our group. We ended up paying $40 total for the group. Just find a guide before entering the park. They are everywhere. We had to walk away, before he agreed on our price. Just play the game.

"Great little hotel,good location"
05/27/15 JohanJ58 Amsterdam, The Netherlands
We spent three nights in Hotel Mandarin and were very happy with our stay. Good location, close to the National Park, restaurants and beaches. Private parking. Nicely decorated rooms, clean, spacious enough, with fridge, safe, cable tv, aircon and ceiling fan, wooden floor. Great freshly cooked breakfast, towels for pool/beach, great working wifi throughout the premises. Bathroom rather small, but convenient enough for us. Helpfull and friendly staff. Good value for money for Manual Antonio. Would come back here if I were in the area. One remark: the hotel is built against the slope of a hill and has numerous staircases (also within the rooms). This means it is not particularly suited for those who have difficulty walking.

"Great Stay"

we stayed here recently and had a great time. The room was comfortable and clean with functioning AC, safe, coffee maker and wifi accessible (though this is meant to be only available in reception and pool/kitchen areas). The hotel staff were extremely helpful and made sure we got our breakfast in time to head out for early excursions. the best thing about the hotel is the location, easy trip to the public beaches and the national park as well as being within walking distance of lots of restaurants and opposite a supermarket. would definitely recommend this, but not if you are seeking high end luxury.

We stayed in 5 different hotels in Costa Rica. San Jose, Manuel Antonio, Cahuita, Arenal and Tamarindo. This hotel was the most expensive and, together with Atlantida Lodge in Cahuita, the poorest. Location is great but that's the only positive thing that I can say. The rooms are small with old furniture, breakfast is average, plus a really bad thing, you choose coffee or juice... no comment for this...

This hotel was in a great location, easy access to everything...beach, restaurants, Manuel Antonio park. I chose this place mainly for the location but also because i kept hearing about the hospitality. The reviewers weren't wrong! We were welcomed and taken cared of for the duration of our stay. They helped us book tours and recommended things to do. The rooms were comfortable and clean as well. If I ever go back, I would definitely want to stay here again!

The hotel had parking lot and beautiful terrace with gardens About the room... it was comfortable, so clean(I love it). It included Cable TV, WiFi, Hot Water, Coffee Maker and breakfast too. The staff were friendly and attentive to the details, I got all info that I needed about Manuel Antonio. So,definitely I will come back.

It has potential but needs some love and reinvestment. The rooms smelled of bug spray, and the washrooms could use an update. Good location, grocery store and bank machine across the street, multiple great beaches close by. The people who worked there were all very nice and friendly. I believe there's also car security at night.
