"Great location and comfortable."
A very basic and comfortable room. My room faced the field out back, and was great to watch the Kangaroos at dusk. Wifi worked well, and self-serve laundry was great. Potential to be noisy, but not when I was there. A good valueGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very good value for pleasant room"
This is an older motel that backs up to an open area where kangaroos graze. The room is quiet and well kept. There is a mini fridge, coffee making, friendly office staff, and good wifi. A BBQ area is available for guests, or a pleasant 5-10 minute walk puts you at local eateries. Great value. I'd definitely stay again. Ask for a back room to watch the […] kangaroos. "Great location & friendly staff"
The staff were very friendly and helpful with walks, hikes and restaurant recommendations, even directions out of town. The place is dated but very nice, comfortable beds and we loved watching the Kangaroos, cockatoos etc from our patio. Kookaburra comes for feeding daily at 9:30 too. "Wow ... great views, great location, unbeatable."
Great location hidden amongst the big gum trees, kookaburras and Kangaroos yet really close to the two great restaurants and the shops. The mountain view rooms are the best ... uninterrupted views and your own balcony. Hosts are really delightful with their touring tips and hospitality. They gave us lots of print outs and info. "Value for money, located at heart of Grampians"
The location is good as its only a couple minutes drive to the Grampians and it is near some restaurants and eateries. Lovely backyard, close to nature with cows, parrots and kangaroos. Room is of decent size and clean and good stable complimentary wifi connection.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect Get Away"
Mind restoring scenary. I regretted for not staying there longer. Every thing is just as good as it can be. The only problem is a lack of room service. So prepare your own tea breaks and supper if u get hungry easily.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good accommodation in the countryside"
We found the Motel very clean and comfortable. Heating works well, hot water showers were good. Beds were comfortable, sheets were clean. There's even a kettle and toaster and utensils. The only little issue we had was the compressor of the mini-fridge was too loud in the silence of the night. Sighting kangaroos hopping around the motel compounds was […] fun. The proprietors were very helpful. Highly recommended for a stay in the Grampians. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Das Zimmer war mit Blick auf eine große Weidefläche und Berge im Hintergrund gelegen. Auf der Weide waren abends Kängurus zu sehen. "Lovely place, friendly hosts"
01/24/15 MonaHMelb Melbourne, Australia
I took my cousins from overseas to the Grampians and we stayed there one night. We were impressed by the hosts' (Peggy and Stephen) friendliness and genuine willingness to help with information and with any other needs. I love the Kookaburra Motor Lodge because is always clean (this wasn't our first stay there), offers big rooms and bathroom and has fantastic mountain views from the outdoor terrace, real value for money. Now there is free wi-fi on offer, which we didn't really have time to use, but it was available! In the morning we were visited by a few yellow crested cockatoos who put up a real show with their funny behaviour, for the delight of our overseas cousins. The rooms are well equipped and there is a switch board available near the bed, so one doesn't have to get up to turn on/off the air conditioner unit or the lights, when is half asleep. There is a microwave oven in the room, TV with remote control, toaster, hot water kettle, tea and coffee supplies and plates, cutlery, mugs and glasses. There are ironing facilities and extra pillows and blankets in the cupboard. Thank you Peggy and Stephen for your hospitality! Be aware, the prices could be slightly lower if you book directly by calling the lodge on (03) 5356 4395, than by booking online! I will definitely recommend this accommodation site to anyone!
"Great Location on a quiet road, close to village centre."

We really liked this motel. We stayed in a lovey room to the rear overlooking the kangaroo field with a table and chairs for a quiet pre dinner drink. It is the only hotel we have ever stayed in that was this close to the wildlife. The owners could not have been more helpful and sent us to the Kookaburra Hotel for a meal. It does need a bit of updating, but represented excellent value for money. Nothing wrong with the wifi signal while we were there.
"Ok but overrated on here"
01/06/15 Alto99 Muara, Brunei Darussalam
Considering the fairly over the top with praise feedback this motel has received on Tripadvisor, we were actually a little bit disappointed when we stayed there. There were a number of good points. The room was clean and reasonably well equipped, albeit rather poorly lit. That said, I'm glad we didn't need the aircon much as it seemed a really noisy unit. It was nice to have a couple of chairs and a table outside the room to relax at, although these were a little bit dirty. We had a view of the road - it's a quiet back road so not unpleasant, but not the spectacular view described by some reviews I'd read before. The less good points - we had a very poor night's sleep there due to our neighbours staying up drinking and talking loudly until 4am in the room next door. Granted, this isn't the fault of the owners, and, to her credit, the owner did show some concern as to whether we'd been disturbed by these people when we were handing back our key and leaving. However, we did find the room to be generally very poorly soundproofed. You could hear people outside your front door and in the adjacent rooms even if they weren't making an excessive amount of noise. I'd also say that we found Halls Gap to be the kind of over-touristy place that perhaps attracts people going away in groups for a noisy, boozy weekend and so maybe having neighbours like that in your accommodation is a tad more likely here....I dunno.... To be honest, I found Halls Gap generally, whilst quite a pleasant little town, to be very overpriced. The Kookaburra was one of the cheaper options I found when searching for accommodation in Halls Gap, but it was still a bit more expensive than a couple of equivalent or better motels we stayed in elsewhere. I was also somewhat unimpressed to have to pay an extra $15 for our 2 year old to be staying in the room. Usually, I've found that children under the age of about 5 or 6 are not charged any extra as long as they use the existing bedding. Neither of the 2 other motels we stayed in on the Australia trip charged any extra for such a young child in spite of having exactly the same bedding configuration. One of those even offered a cot (which we didn't need) for no extra charge. Another minus point was the wifi. Good that it was free, but not so good that it never worked. The signal was too weak for either of the devices we tried using. It wasn't a problem with our devices as a decent signal was picked up from the Pinnacle Lodge across the road....which unfortunately we didn't have a password for.
"Quiet but central location, owner operated, value for money, clean and comfortable"

This small motel is a favourite with repeat visitors to Halls Gap and has an excellent reputation. The accomodation is simple but comfortable and the cost moderate. We stayed during the height of summer and found the air-conditioning worked efficiently even when the temperature was 38 degrees celsius. The current very pleasant owners, Peggy and Stephen, are gradually upgrading the facilities. Recent upgrades include free Wi-Fi, HD digital flat screen TV's with excellent reception, and the addition of a microwave to each room. There is a small refrigerator and hot water jug as well as some cups, plates and glasses. The bathroom is very 1970's but large with a long vanity bench, toilet and shower. Shower tiles will be the next item to update but water is hot and plentiful. Basic toiletries and towels are supplied. We did not have breakfast in our room but friends tell me the cooked breakfasts were good. Other reviews have rightly stressed that the back, slightly older, rooms overlook a paddock where kangaroos and native birds are seen in the early morning and evening. It is a five minutes walk along a quiet road to the village centre. Our group of 12 stayed at the motel during the bush fire season. The Victoria Country Fire Authority has a free iPhone app. which we used just in case bushfires came in our direction. However, once again we had a safe and enjoyable summer holiday in Halls Gap.

We decided to stay in Halls Gap on a whim, driving back from Adelaide to Melbourne. I'm glad we did as I had forgotten just how lovely it is there, surrounded by mountains. Reminded me fondly of our recent New Zealand trip. We picked the Kookaburra due to its location in town. It's down a side street and far enough from the Hotel (where we walked for dinner) to still be quiet. Our room was a mountain view which was lovely, but I enjoyed more watching the wandering kangaroos and birdlife in the plants outside our window, as well as the two bulls in the paddock. Our room was large and comfortable. No complaints except that there were no bowls provided. Planning to stay there again soon.
"Wonderful Motel, Great Choice"
Kookaburra Motor Inn is a fantastic place to base yourself while staying in Halls Gap in The Grampians. The staff are more than friendly and happy to help, the rooms are clean and tidy, and if you're lucky enough to have a room at the back of the motel, your little patio faces out into a paddock where you can watch the Kangaroos and a couple of cattle grazing. You'll also get some cockatoos come around in the afternoon trying to bludgeon a cracker or two. Breakfast is great if you choose to order it from the motel and you're very close to town, being located in the street behind the Main Street of Halls Gap. Literally only a two min walk into town. Great views of The Grampians mountains from the motel even for those with rooms at the front. You may not get the paddock but there's a nice garden and still views of some of the mountains. I noticed someone wrote I a previous review that the air conditioning doesn't work, but we asked the reception and they told us there's a switch that needs to be turned on which is located next to your bed - so they have no problem with you using the air con and are more than helpful for you, even coming over to make sure we got it working. All in all a great place to stay, I wouldn't look any further.
"Drive slowly. Home to Victoria's Entire Kangaroo population"

This was the 5th nights stay of our motorbike trip, and it was everything that I was hoping to expose my girlfriend to on her first trip to Australia. Our room had a view overlooking the paddock towards the gap, where I'm guessing the town get's its name. Mountain's, Outback, Waterfalls, Scenery and Kangaroo's - this is a bit of a hidden secret in Australia me thinks. The room was a clean and tidy self-contained unit, with bathroom, tea and coffee and provided you fill in your order - continental breakfast included. The owners were extremely welcoming and were really helpful in pointing out the local attractions so we could hop back on the bike and make the most of our afternoon. We went up the mountain to Barocca point (which overlooks the town and you can see from the hotel when you come back down), McKenzie falls taking the normal road up and a really twisty one way road down - perfect for a biker! This place is all about the scenery and nature. And my partner saw enough of both to satisfy her appetite for what Australia can really be about.
"Warm reception, average amenities, clarify which are the rooms with the mountain view to avoid disappointment"
12/14/14 Abu A
This motel is not the cheapest in the area, but it is not very expensive either. Reception was warm and helpful. However, do clarify first which are the rooms with the mountain view; some of them face a boring road unlike those depicted in the photos. It is claimed that the air-conditioning and heating are moderated by the hotel staff but I think this is just an excuse for refusing to switch on the air-conditioner, although I am not complaining because I am all for an eco-friendly stay at the Grampians. Wifi works fine and amenities are average. If you come to the Grampians for the kangaroos, other motels may offer a closer view with the marsupials. The kangaroos that roam near this motel are behind a fence.

I booked the self-contained apartment. It's a small house w 2 bedrooms (2 queens, 1 single), full kitchen, big spacious living area, washing machine & BBQ if u bother. It's a perfect place for a family. Cons: - 1 toilet & 1 separate bathroom - no wifi in this unit since it is not a the main motel/lobby/office. We had to drive ~200m to the main building to use our devices. Yes! We do have impt stuff to do!!! Such as emails, whatsapp friends, Facebook, play games & update Tripadvisors! But seriously, I love the apartment.
"A very memorable stay"
11/30/14 catho2 Reading, United Kingdom
We have just spent a wonderful weekend here. The most amazing feature in the view from the small patio at the back of the units overlooking a large paddock, in which there are lots of kangaroos, some cattle and occasional deer. The bird life is special too. The flowering gum next to our terrace was filled with many parrots and other birds. The view down the valley is magnificent with the majestic mountains on both sides. The motel is very close to the shops and the owners could not be more helpful. They suggested all the best places to visit and at what times. The rooms were clean and comfortable with lovely landscaping of colourful roses bushes in the central parking area. Would highly recommend this motel.
