"Perfect location, charming, pet friendly"
Perfect location, charming town, comfortable room, pet friendly... had all we were looking for! We had a wonderful, very enjoyable stay here. You can walk half a block to the beach, a block to a great coffee place for your morning coffee and pastry. (Highly recommend Sleepy Monk coffee -- you can take your dog there and sit outside on the porch). We […] had a wonderful dinner 2 doors down at Newmans 988. (Highly recommend for a nice, special occasion dinner.) The hotel room was great -- very comfortable bed, microwave/frig/coffee maker, a little freestanding gas fireplace which added cozy atmosphere. Nice also to have a DVD player. We bought the movie The Goonies before leaving on vacation, and brought it with us and watched it while we were there. Parts of it were filmed in Cannon Beach. Still a great movie after all these years! This hotel is charming, quaint, clean, quiet and well-maintained, with good service, and reasonable rates. I would highly recommend it to anyone, but especially those traveling with a canine companion. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Warm and Cozy."
We love staying at the McBee cottages! The rooms are warm and rustic. The atmosphere is perfect a weekend at the ocean. We certainly will stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
Perfect place for I and our little dog. We got the bigger room and although the rooms are well appointed and ours was actually 2 rooms with no door, I had a hard time imaging the fily if three next door being comfortable. I also wouldn't want to a have a large dog there. Beautiful and very small. Our particular room needed a new mattress even though […] they have an entire page on their special mattresses. Very nice service. I wpuld recommend McBee cottages! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute cottage close to the beach"
We stayed one night in Cannon Beach. The cottages were very close to the beach and less than quarter mile walk to Haystack Rock. Free chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate were a nice touch at check in!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Just ok. Location is the best part "

Our most recent visit to cannon beach ended up at Mcbee cottages. We decided to stay there so we could bring our chiweenie along. When we arrived, the room wasn't quite ready, so we took a nice walk on the beach. The location is amazing. After entering the room, we were greeted with a sweet basket for our pet with a blanket, towel, food dish and doggie bone, which our doggie appreciated very much. The room was not yet renovated, and it showed. While not bad, it was nothing special. The furniture was comfy, the bed was fine, but the bathroom only had a shower, which was very small. I am only 115 lbs, so I can imagine a grown man not feeling comfy in this room. Oh, the room is number 37. The biggest problem was the heating. I read other people saying they had this issue too, so believe it. The heat is a wall unit with a thermostat. There was an additional thermostat on the wall that had no function that we could see. If you wanted to close the bedroom door, it was freezing because there is no separate heat in there. The room was in need of repair too. Nothing major, but disappointing. The shower and kitchen needed caulking replaced. It is a small thing that would make a nice difference. I guess the best thing about the room is the location to the beach and sleepy monk coffee. Even so, I would not stay there again. The courtyard was much nicer but didn't allow pets. If you don't mind a room that needs a bit of work, or you can handle the room either feeling like the arctic or the surface of the sun hot, it's a decent place. The owner is very nice and gracious. We ended up leaving one day earlier than we paid for because I was not comfortable in the room. I recently had surgery and wanted to recover at the beach so that was disappointing.

McBee is an older "Motor lodge" style property that has been completely updated. You are not right on the beach but about a half block away. If you know that going in you will have a great time. Check in is down the street at the Cannon Beach Hotel and do not try to check in early. They are making your unit clean and perfect for you and your four legged friend if you have one traveling with you. Nice interiors with white bead-board paneling and nice beach style furnishings. Gas fire place added atmosphere on rainy days but not a lot of heat. We used the kitchen for some meals and everything worked really well. We had unit 28 right off Hemlock street and it was never an intrusion so don't worry about which unit you get.
"Perfect little home"

I heard about this sweet place from Travelzoo, who were offering a very good deal to stay two nights in one of the cottages. I looked at them online and bought the voucher immediately! My friend and I stayed in the cottage for two days and two nights. It was absolutely perfect for us. When we checked in (at the Cannon Beach Hotel, down the road) there was a mix up and we found a room that was adorable, but only had one bed! So back we went to resolve the situation. Linda at the front desk was incredibly helpful and patient throughout the whole process and gave us instead, a lovely little cottage with a separate bedroom, kitchen AND a fireplace! It was cozy, comfortable and exactly what we needed. It is not luxury, but it's very clean, close to a few restaurants and galleries. Two coffee shops right nearby and the BEACH! The beach is just stunning, half a block away from our door. We spent a lot of our time there. The main part of town is walking distance, but not really close. We ended up driving as we weren't sure how far it was. Town has lots of shops, fairly pricey. Lots of restaurants, a nice little bookstore and a grocery store. Everything is mostly on one Main Street, so easy to walk around, which MANY were doing. Cannon Beach is a very pretty little town, and I hope to go back again. As for McBee Cottages, the only surprise for me was the location. I had pictured them being in some quiet little residential neighbourhood on a large property. In actual fact, they are right on the main road, on a fairly small corner lot, which was a BIT squishy driving in and out of. Not a major deal. Plenty of parking, nice outdoor seating area for sunny weather. All in all, extremely pleasant and I would definitely stay there again.
"GREAT customer service!"

There was a major mistake with our reservation--it may have been my fault though I'm not sure. I certainly should have noticed the dates weren't right on the multiple reminders they sent though, and I didn't. But the hotel bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of, and did not charge us extra for the mistaken date. I was so thankful! I had booked the room through a travelzoo voucher so I had gotten a very low price in the first place. All the staff we interacted with were super helpful and nice. These are cottages built in the 1940s, nicely remodeled inside. Very comfortable beds, very quiet at night, short walk to the beach, the ones with the full kitchen are equipped really well and very convenient. Only negatives were the showers were tiny, and we had some issues with it being a bit too warm, though opening the windows solved that. Anyway they are cottages built in the 40s so if that is not what you want, book a different kind of room. Perfect for families or others who want to cook their own meals!

I had room 33 and it was cute & cozy. Beachy, comfortable and relaxed style accommodations. Very pet friendly and only a one time fee :) . One block to the beach with easy access.Staff was nice and welcoming. First trip to Cannon Beach and the town was quaint, with great restaurants and fun shopping. Be sure to visit Cannon Beach Treasure Company. Wonderful jewelry and great history/artifacts, not to mention really nice owners! Jenine
"A really nice surprise"

We stayed in unit 31 last night. Were able to negotiate a good rate for the night because we arrived in rather late. The cabin looks old and small from the outside but it was such a nice surprise to open the door and find a cozy, nicely decorated retreat. We would have stayed a second night but it was fully booked. I highly recommend this unit. A short walk to the gorgeous beach.
"Service Dogs not welcome."

We used a Living Social voucher for this stay of 2 days. When booking the reservation, we were put in a dog friendly motel rather than the one in which we wanted to stay. I felt my service dog was not welcome in the hotel we wanted. So we marched on. This was a trip with my severely handicapped sister so we requested a room for 3. We were told, by Alexander, that we would have a third bed. Not so! The third bed was a horrible hide a bed. When open, it filled the sitting area and we could not move around the bed as it was almost in the fireplace. We were in room 30 and it was very, very cramped. The cottages themselves have been spruced up inside but are "rustic" on the outside with rotting window sills and unpainted siding.
"Our recent Stay"

Don't stay at the McBee motel. They say it is remodeled and beachy. The weather was 89-90 which is unusual. They have no air conditioning nor did they have any fans in the room. We had a decent room the first night with a microwave, and a little refrig. We had to go buy a fan so we could just sleep. The room we had to move to was so small and only had one chair to sit in. There was no microwave or refrig. They put 2 people and 2 dogs in this room. No more!!!!!

I stayed at in cottage #34 with my boyfriend and a small dog for 4 nights, and was a little nervous about what to expect after reading some of the reviews. Our first experience with the hotel was the phone call we received at 9pm while we were still travelling letting us know that if we arrived after 10pm we could get our key from the lock box outside the lobby. This was very much appreciated and meant we didn't have to rush to be there for 10pm as the email said. The cottage itself was a studio and was fairly small but had a little bit more space than the average hotel room. I was really impressed with the quality of the finishings and the small but very modern bathroom. The room was very clean and the pet bucket was a really nice tough, with a blanket, towel an dog treats. The kitchenette was basically just a microwave and a coffee machine, with just two plates and two sets of cutlery. There were some drawers in the kitchen which were empty so could have had more equipment in. There was also a fire pit and a grill in the common garden area, and we used the grill one night to cook some sausages and make some s'mores (as we didn't want the hassle with the fire pit!). The service we received was mixed. The initial phone call was great, and then the manager was very helpful when we went in the morning after to register. After that the service was so-so, with two other gentlemen on shift on different occasions who were very unhelpful andI felt like an inconvenience for being there. One night I borrowed a DVD and the TV remote didn't work so I had to run the two blocks back to the hotel for batteries (which didn't help!) which was a pain. Other than that we didn't need any on site help. The hotel will also loan out beach towels and chairs as well as movies, and they have a nice new parisian-style cafe with a dog-friendly patio which looked nice. The location of the cottages was perfect for us! The entrance to the beach was half a block away and right by Haystack Rock - the 'official' entrance to Haystack Rock is right by the Cannon Beach Hotel. Every morning we walked to Sleepy Monk and sat outside in the garden with the BEST coffee and bagels, and then walked the 10 minutes into the centre of Cannon Beach. We didn't need a car at all in Cannon Beach, only when we wanted to drive further afield to Manzanita/Nehalem/Astoria. I would definitely stay at the McBee cottages again and was pleasantly surprised at how nice and new the cottage was. That compared with the price and the location makes it a winner for me!
"Clean, Convenient, Quality Service Staff, Affordable"
08/11/14 MrB2015 Port Perry, Canada
Our group of 8 adults and two children stayed in two adjoining units at the McBee cottages and one group of four across the street at the Homestead unit 24. The units were clean and very convenient to the beach which was at the end of the road about 100 yards away. The units were just off the main north/south road, but well set back with a play area, picnic tables and fireside pit. Also included is a propane B.B.Q. for the guests. There was ample kitchen servery, plates, pots/pans for four in the two larger units, but bringing your own electric skillet is recommended. The staff make-up the beds each day and are very helpful plus a short walk down the street to the main hotel where fresh coffee and salt water taffy is free throughout the day as are a wide assortment of DVD's. Book early as Canon Beach is a popular tourist destination.
