The resort is lovely - nice architecture - good access to amenities of the adjacent Four Seasons resort - nice pools - excellent service. There's not much to do in Papagayo without having a car and will to travel up to 2 hours. Surfing is 1.5-2 hours away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Andaz gets it right"
Really brilliant room with lots of natural materials and textures. Smart design with closet console creating hallway between sleeping area and bathroom and balcony area. Very good food though not too many options outside of the hotel nearby. Perfect for three days of rest and relaxation with a loved one.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful location/vegetation, Very Private"
Andaz is not a typical Hyatt resort. It targets "Bohemian Professionals". Most guests were in a 25-35 age group. If you are 50+, 60+, 70+, you must be fit (lots of steps to climb). We arrived during the rainy season and there was not a droplet of rain; blue sky and sun every day and no mosquitos (Papagayo Penninsula!). We had all pools and two beaches […] to ourselves; one with volcanic (black) sand is where you get (complimentary) kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling gear and comfortable chaises; the second beach (golden sand) is better for swimming; both are surrounded by beautiful native vegetation (tropical dry forest with lots of cacti). Only one restaurant, RIO BHONGO was opened (the other two will reopen in high season); like most people visiting Andaz, we made “mandatory” dining trips to Four Seasons, Prieta Beach Club, and the Dive Bar (at the marina). The resort provides free shuttles to each until 6pm; we paid $12.50 for returns to the hotel. A trip (15/20/10 minutes) to either one is worth the return fee (spectacular views; lots of monkeys; awesome birds). Andaz's Rio Bhongo restaurant was very good; for half price (when compared to FS) it offers delicious food/very good service. Overall, Andaz is a work in progress; a beautiful resort that can one day get 5 stars but for now guests should be prepare for some glitches and have a great time despite mishaps (Ignacio and Rebeka are superb problem solvers). The Andaz Papagayo was perfect for what we wanted after our wedding. Something relaxing, clean, private and far from everything. We are typically active travellers, but just wanted to relax on our honeymoon after a long wedding planning process and week. This was perfect. There are only two other hotels near by and the closest town is 40minutes away. […] It was also slow season so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. If you want to be closer to towns and sights, you might want to look somewhere else. If you want to relax in a secluded area, with great service, beautiful property this is the place. I will admit you don't get a true sense of Costa Rica, but that was not what we were looking for. Also, I say great service. The people were great, but service was slow at times. That being said, there is no reason to rush in Costa Rica anyways Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

All was wonderful. The beach is unique, very peaceful and clear.Genuine Expedia guest review
We just returned from 6 days at the hotel and absolutely loved our stay. The rooms are very romantic, including the amazing shower that the glass doors opens onto your balcony so it feels like you are showering in the hills where the hotel is located. Very romantic spot, perfect for a couple. The resort has more of a contemporary feel and the staff […] is younger. The hotel only opened in December so the formal restaurant is not open but there are two restaurants available. The tapas restaurant is fun. Staff is incredibly nice and accomodating, we truly enjoyed our stay. The Four Seasons is next door and there is transportion available. I, however, are very happy we stayed at the Andaz over the Four Seasons given the personal service available and the difference in price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful resort but very secluded"
We had a great stay - they even upgraded our room which has a beautiful view - and would highly recommend the place. We were there in the off season and practically had the place to ourselves. Monkeys linger around and exitic birds come and go, which makes for nice traditional Costa Rican experience. However, the hotel is difficult to get to and once […] you're on the property you are at the mercy of hotel food costs and activities are limited and pricey. Beautiful beaches are closeby - I would suggest taking a jet ski out early/mid morning to see the surrounding areas (we went in the afternoon and it was way too wavey - not worth it). Paddle boards and kayaks are complimentary for an hour but unfortunately you can't go very far. Walkways are steep on the grounds but they have many golf carts available to help get you around if needed. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
If you want to go somewhere to relax, I definitely say Andaz is the place. Probally the best room I have stayed in and the service is awesome! The hotel over looks Cuelbra Bay, I definitely recommend getting a Partial Bay view room. You have a little more privacy and you still get an excellent view of the bay. The mini bar is complimentary and at the […] pools, they are always walking around with free water. My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and it was the perfect amount of time to wind down. It is located on the Pennisula next to the Four Seasons, so a little secluded from towns, but that is what we were looking for. The Tapas restuarant is a MUST!! I can't explain how delicious it was and great sized portions (especially for tapas)! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful New property has a few kinks."
Newly opened property needs to work out a few kinks. The breakfast buffet is a poor value with limited options. Try the Four Seasons its cheaper and offers much more. Kids food offerings need to be expanded. Hotdogs, Pizza, quesadillas Fish Taco's etc. at poolside and room service also please! Overall the food and drinks in all the restaurants on property […] were quite good but expensive. Also the kids programing pretty much was guests supervising their kids in the pool. The setting for the hotel sits sublimely above the gulf on the hillside. Its quite spread out so if walking is challenging then you might be calling for carts to assist. Beach access is also fairly steep so you might puff a bit coming back up. The pools are beautiful. The architecture very harmonized to the location. East facing so morning sun is powerful. Disappointingly, though, we paid the hotel $50.00 for sunscreen that cost $15.00 in town. What's up with that? Despite a few kinks our family really enjoyed our stay at Andaz Papagayo and will return again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It was very nice to be at a brand new resort. While they have a few minor quirks to workout, it is amazing! Go to the beach club while you are there. The hotel will drive you there without any charge before 6 pm. A lot of visitors from the four seasons visit as well. The best restaurant on the property is Ostra, seafood restaurant, very nice atmosphere, […] service and food!!! The spa was amazing, the watersports are free excluding day boat trips or jet skis. This should be something the hotel markets more. You should book hotel travel from airport by the #1 company Costa Rica tours. It's $80 and very professional. The property was very relaxing and the rooms were great!! Good pick! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Excellent hotel. Service and food quality are indeed very good. Nothing negative to say about the days we spent at Andaz other than saying that the days we spent over there came by to fast. For sure coming back again.Regards,GGGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful experience at Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort"
09/11/14 jenniferbasham Orlando, Florida
I had an amazing experience at the hotel; the service was excellent. From the first moment I arrived until I left the hotel all the employees were very kind and had an excellent attitude. It was my first time in an ANDAZ hotel and truly there were a lot of good details that made me feel really confortable. To highlight, my room had a wonderful bed and a big shower, both of them with a beautiful sea view. Everything in the room was new and its decoration was so natural and fresh that made me fell more in contact with nature. The food was exquisite, throughout my stay I had the opportunity to go to the three restaurants and each of them was excellent. To mention, juices are excellent!. To find entertainment I didn´t have to go out because the hotel offered me all what I needed: 3 different swimming pools, 2 beaches with various sea activities and also for my children the hotel had a kids room were they could play different kind of activities. At night they offered music in one of its restaurant. Finally, the best of all is the privacy that I got during all my stay and also the importance the hotel gave me as a guest every day!
"Wonderful resort! "

Visited during "rainy" season, so occupancy was low. We were treated like royalty. Beautiful rooms. Great for walkers, but for those who can't easily walk, they will pick you up with a golf cart. Located on Culebra Bay, with paddle boards, kyacks and snorkeling equipment included in cost of room. Comfy lounge chairs at the bay. We rented a jet ski and explored surrounding islands. Host, Ricardo, noticed my friend's birthday was during our stay, and surprised us with a cake in the room that day. Chocolate cake was the best I'd ever had, and I'm more of an ice cream than cake person! Others that stood out for us were Andrea H and Annette, who helped us figure out great day trips, and the short young fellow, a host, went above and beyond to help us with the rental car (can't remember his name); waitress, Xicca in Rio Bhone, supper nice:) Highly recommend taking a day trip to Prieta Beach Club, which is included in stay at Andaz. We were pampered there too! Beautiful beach, excellent food and pools (pools at Andaz nice too, but beach club has ocean). Andaz will drive you to/from for free, up until 6pm. Guests need to know that this location is isolated, so you're going to do most things at resort or beach club unless you rent a car or take a tour. We did a tour that Andrea arranged, and then rented a car for our last full day, enabling us to drive back to the airport the next day, saving expense for shuttle to airport. I wish I could remember her name, Annette, I think, black hair, was really smart to call airport when we learned our flight was delayed. It turned out that had she not , we would not have been able to get through customs, as they closed at 1pm, regardless of plane delay. Pura Vida attitude prevailed at airport, as the Delta attendant let us check in and then we explored CR for a few more hours. Suffice to say, I can't wait to return to the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo! !

I went with my wife and kids. We had an amazing time from beginning to end. The scenary is fantastic, the hotel's architecture is uniquely embedded into the surrounding forest and the rooms are beautiful. During the day we enjoyed the pool and the beach, and we then enjoyed great meals at the restaurants. Recommended for both families and couples!
"Amazing tico resort!"
09/08/14 vimaury Miami
I stayed here for 4 nights back in Aug 2014 with the kids and the wife using Hyatt points. I was very surprised at he beauty of the place. The resort is less than a year old. We rented a car from the airport and drove for over a half an hour till the end of the road to finally find this place. What sucks is that there is no signs from the airport and it is pitch dark at night. However, once you get there it is all so worth it. We had an amazing time. The rooms are incredible and we had a bay view too. The shower is out of this world. I loved the fact that you could raid the snack bar and not get charged. I highly recommend the resort.

Among the pleasure of our trip, for me, was practicing my halting Spanish with the hotel's friendly, eager staff. In Tico slang, the phrase above means fully satisfied, really happy, even ecstatic. A rough translation, I guess, is "Fantastc!" This was our second trip to the Gulf of Papagayo. Two years ago we stayed at the Four Seasons. We looked into that again, but the prices had climbed, so we tried the Andaz. There was no drop-off from the Four Seasons. In fact, there were things we liked even better at the Andaz, including our room. We had a small suite, stylish and comfortable, a melding of modern and traditional in its design and details, with plenty of room for my wife and me and our two sons, ages 5 and 9. We still needed a rollaway bed for the little one, but there was lots of space for it. We put it up against a big window with views of the gulf and sky and monkeys swinging through the trees. The hotel property hugs a hillside on the east side, the gulf side, of the peninsula. We enjoyed following the up and down paths to different parts of the beautifully maintained property. Flowers everywhere, butterflies and hummingbirds, iguanas scampering up tree-trunks, howler monkeys "howling" (it's more like grunting, a strange and wonderful sound). The staff, everyone, was great. Really warm and friendly. It's a pretty luxurious hotel, but it doesn't feel stuffy. All three restaurants were excellent, but we had most of our meals at Rio Bongho, the airy, informal restaurant that's best for children. So long as my wife and I ate a meal, the kids ate free. Also at no charge: snorkeling equipment, kayaks, and paddleboards at the beach, and the mini-bar in the room (even knowing that, I could barely bring myself to pull out a cold beer or a pack of plantain chips for fear of racking up charges). On the other hand, I was taken aback by the "resort fee" added to the final bill. It wasn't a secret, just not the sort of thing I pay attention to on the front end when I'm eagerly making reservations, so maybe it's churlish to gripe about it now. Here's the main thing: We were delighted to return to Peninsula Papagayo, and we were delighted with the Andaz. The hotel is for us another reason to return. I'm sure we will.
"Chart-topping relaxation (that will cost)!"

Allow me to address that one issue first: this can be a very expensive place to visit. Examples run the gamut, from $68 breakfast buffets to $900 bottles of wine! Also keep in mind that there will be a 13% tax plus a 10% resort fee added to every bill. Bottom line? Your bottom line can be very painful indeed if you don't plan ahead. Would have been more palatable if it were all-inclusive. On the positive side, this is a "Wow!" place, one of the most visually appealing places I've ever had the pleasure of staying. Architect Ronald Zürcher incorporated this resort into the beautiful Costa Rican surrounding with the utmost consideration; you will be residing in a work of art that transforms magically from daytime to night! The staff is among the best, regardless of country, and I'd like to give special shout-outs to Yendry, Xira Rodriquez and Ineth Delgado at the Rio Bhongo Restaurant. If you needed anything that wasn't already provided, all you had to do was ask. Save one groundskeeper, every staff member greeted us with a smile and, "Hola!" our entire four day stay. My wife and I have been traveling to CR for over 11 years now and because it's a business trip for her, it's not often we get to relax. This time we did, and thanks to a "low-season" deal, I chose the Andaz (after a recommendation from the manager at the Hyatt Place Pinares) as an attractive location in which we could simply relax. After a long 30 minute drive from Liberia, we walked down a ramp to the most simplistic and yet breathtaking check-in. From there we were whisked away by cart to our King Room which I fell in love with (see attached images). We were in a #2 building on the upper level so there was a fair amount of walking, but my wife and I enjoy the exercise; 20 steps up from the bottom level of the building and then 69 steps down to the middle road level, plus 3 more down to the Rio Bhongo Restaurant; you can call for a ride anytime The pools and beach were further on down the hillside the resort is located on; check on the tide level as high tide covers most of the beach, though there is still seating back amongst the trees. There are various activities offered throughout the week but we just wanted to chill and took advantage of that in the numerous locations situated throughout the resort. Pictures are worth a thousand words but I've included commentary on most of them to allow for better context. If you are a nature lover, you'll appreciate the myriad flora and fauna. Butterflies galore, hummingbirds, iguana, howler monkeys and coatis are common (and they've not been open a year yet). Please don't try feeding any of them, though, especially around the restaurants. Items of note: complimentary items in the refrigerator, hats, umbrellas, flipflops, motion activated lighting, complete lighting controls on both sides of the bed, (optional) open-air shower room, river stone bathroom floor, beach bag, twice a day room cleaning, large open-air buildings with fantastic views no matter what the weather, flavored (try the cucumber!) water provided poolside, at the spa (along with dried fruit snacks) and at one beach along with towels and even aloe chunks to sooth your skin! Be sure to check our their Spotify playlists, too. I truly hope we have the opportunity to visit this outstanding resort again as it's as good as any place I've found to get away from it all and simple relax!
"The babymoon of my dreams!"
We're expecting our first little one in only a couple of months & everyone has been telling us we need to get away, enjoy a last holiday just the two of us. So hubby suprised me with a week of sun & sand in one of the most amazing and beautiful resorts we've ever been to. As 'baby brain' is already taking over (and i've never been good with words to start off with) i'll keep this as straight forward as possible Loved: - the stylish suite with dreamy views, huge rain shower & super comfy matres that suported my back (and baby belly) - the lovely & caring team who so went out of their way by bringing me extra pillows, adapting the menu to suit my cravings & special requests and just making sure we could enjoy every moment of ou holiday - the onda spa (located in the middle of the tropical, lush forest). Patricia is a certified pre natal massage therapist. I felt like i was floating all through my treatment (ok, i had two;-)) - the beautiful infinity pools & the wonderfully romantic secluded beaches & the quiet, clear water of the culebra bay - the chao pescao bar with live music on saturdays and the coolest mixologist who made me mocktails so yummy & beautiful (even hubby opted for the 'no alcohol' version haha) The only downside.... - our week of romance, sun & sand passed way too quickly! (Honestly, we couldn't think of anything else) We'll be back with little one; promise (their kids club & entertainment program looked so cool even we wanted to go ;-))!!!

I had the opportunity to visit Andaz, and can honestly say it was super. The room was spacious, the view was scenic. The chao pescao bar was my favorite, where clark and antony made some amazing drinks for me. I found all the hotel employees to be gracous, patient and super fun to talk to. i wish i was able to spend more time there, but can't wait to return TIP: from december to may are the dry/hot months, I was completely unprepared for the heat. Good thing th shower was so amazing!
"Started with a wow and ended with an doh!"

When you first arrive to this resort it is one of the most wow factor views and stunning lobbies you will see. The check in staff was friendly and offered fresh fruit juice upon arrival. The resort itself was nice and clean at all locations. All staff were friendly and courteous during our stay. We have been to other resorts in Costa Rica previously, this was our first time to the west coast. The beach was nice and secluded, with full bar service available. The food at all the restaurants was good and fresh. The negatives are: - food was over priced for the quality. - staff are not trained well for serving meals (especially given the 5-star rating). - not all staff are fully bi-lingual (very limited English) - staff entered our room even though the privacy indicator was on - food offered is the same menu every day, very tiring for a week's stay. - one of the 3 restaurants was closed for 3 of the 6 nights we stayed - ice machines are inadequate, you will be lucky to get enough to cool 1 drink (at time of our stay there were only about 30% occupancy so usage wasn't a factor). - while the auto on/off of the lights are nice during the day, not so great at night (no way to shut off). - different pricing for the same drinks at the different restaurants. - non- hotel tour providers bug you at the beach about tours every time you walk down. - sound proofing in the rooms was poor (could hear kids running up and down stairs, AC units running etc (with windows/doors closed). We enjoyed our relaxing stay, but would not re-visit this resort. We felt the resort was over priced and did not warrant the 5 star rating.
"they know how to treat their guests"

We went to this facility with no expectations. Getting off the plane we heard several people were staying at the 4 Seasons and thought we made a huge mistake. Nothing could be further from the truth. Loved everything about the facility. Would caution people that the facility is very very hilly. We went to see the 4 Seasons and I was so happy with our choice, there is no comparison. I would recommend you take a trip to the marina and beach club. Try the beach club at sunset and then go to the restaurant, you won't be disappointed. The staff at all the places we went couldn't have been nicer. Will be looking to return.
