"Memorable Stay at Andaz"
We spent 14 Nights at Andaz Papagayo Resort, and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, the great service, and the wonderful staff. A bit isolated, with no dining facilities near the resort. However, if you have a rental car (a necessity!!), you will have easy access to wonderful beaches and interesting eating establishments within 30 to 75 mins.

The overall presentation of the hotel is nice. There are many things that the hotel offers to make the stay enjoyable. There is a very nice gym, a spa, 3 restaurants, a nearby beach, golf cart transportation and many other things. The staff is very friendly and the majority of them very willing to help with anything you need. The only setback is the fact that there is not a town close enough to walk to so your food options are are limited to the restaurants on the grounds. The prices are a little ridiculous. Also, because the tip is already included on every bill, the wait staff is in no hurry to wait on you. I went with my husband and usually we would get seated right away but almost every time it was about 15 to 20 minutes before someone came by the table to even give us water or any kind of service. If i remember correctly, a 13% tax was added to each bill and a 10% tip. Other that the restaurant experiences, everything else was great. There is always someone around to help you with anything you need and they are always checking on you to make sure your room is always clean, the minibar stocked and your linens fresh. Also, most of them speak English (except for at the restaurants) which is helpful. I am glad we experienced this hotel once, however, we will probably not choose to stay there a second time.

"Breathtakingly beautiful resort!"
The architecture and location of this resort is amazingly beautiful! Great place to relax and be pampered. Foodservice offered in the property is wonderful as well, showcasing the local flavors of Costa Rica. Service is a little slow compared to the States, but the people are warm, friendly and accomodating. The amenities in the room is well thought of--open shower to balcony/patio (still private), complimentary mini-bar essentials (waters, juices, coffees/teas, local snacks), complimentary beach flip-flops and straw hats (both sexes), straw tote and umbrella. We had a king bed which was comfortable, and since our daughter came with us, she had a rollover bed (complimentary)--not the cheapy ones that most hotels provide, but more of a murphy bed quality that is stable and comfortable. Everything in the room was immaculate (concrete floors in room area, bathroom/shower with small river stone floors). Highly recommended for all -- singletons, couples, families, business travelers. As they say in Costa Rica...Pura Vida!

"Back for second time. Not likely to make it three"
We visited at roughly the same time as last year. The place is stunning. It is situated in a beautiful cove--which couldn't be more picturesque. The facilities are nice---but this year something was missing. The level of attention and care was completely gone. Not that it was bad, it just wasn't near the level it was the previous year. It seemed like there were far fewer people employed and most of them had little or no training. Several times, the housekeeping people did not come until early evening. Once, they came around 9am and we asked her to return and she said she'd be back in an hour. She never came back. Several times they came to our door and rang impatiently several times. The vibe was less about what they could do to accommodate us than what we could do to get out of their way. Even our check in was difficult and very badly delayed. Little things like pool side towels were often unavailable. Even little perks like free sunscreen on the pool patio, were almost always empty. Understand that we are not that demanding...we simply chose Andaz because we had known it to be a relaxing, friendly and extremely comfortable experience. We were hoping for a repeat of that experience. Hotels tend to trend up and trend down. We just seem to catch this Andaz at a time it is trending down.

"Stay away...they steal from you"
All charges made by hotel do not match with my bank charges. They added extra $5-10 dollars. Also, when we checked out we paid in full for any room charges and received a receipt from them with a zero balance. Upon returning home and checking out bank account they charged our bank with two charges of over 250 dollars without our consent. This is fraud from Andaz Hotel as we left our room in good condition and took nothing.

"Mediocre all around"
Resort and room is nice. No AC anywhere except your room which made enjoying a meal difficult in the heat and humidity. Overall, all staff are friendly but the wait staff at Rio Bongo missed the mark with getting the orders right. Not once. Not twice. But at least on 5 or 6 occasions during multiple visits. Food is decent but our favorite was the Tapas Bar. Breakfast buffet was a joke. 32 bucks for a very limited selection of food. Would have expected a larger variety of fruits at a minimum but there was only pineapples, papaya, melons and a mixed fruit bowl. Housekeeping was slow getting our room made even during off peak season.. But they did a good job when they did make it to our room.

"Small secluded hotel"
A perfect place to get away and relax. From the moment we arrived, we couldn't have been treated better. Each morning starting with sitting on our balcony, watching the monkeys playing in the trees right outside our room. Then on to a good breakfast in one of the reasturants. Beautiful rooms, swimming pools, etc. make this a great place for vacation. Food at the restaurants was good (a little pricey). The hotel was also very helpful setting up excursions off the property. The beach was okay, but it felt almost like you were on a lake. We did see sea turtles and sting rays close to shore. If you want to pamper yourself, the spa was also very nice.

"Nice hotel"
The Andaz hotel is very secluded and far from everything. There is a small beach that is very dark and secluded. The sand is a dark color so it always looks like there is dirt all over you. The beaches in the Caribbean and Mexico blow it away. The water is dark also. No turquoise water and silky white sand here. The food is very good but for two people, $60 for breakfast is a little much for me. And that's just two eggs a spoonful of rice and beans a cup of coffee and one small piece of Plantain. When the waiter asks if you would like more coffee and you say yes, guess what ? you're charged for that also. $15-$20 per drink. Even if you want an extra bag of coffee in your room for the morning they charge you for it. There really is absolutely nothing to do there and the whole place basically shuts down at 10:00 PM, and usually that's fine by me but this hotel has nothing near it. I will not be back.

"Andaz Papagayo"
One of the best destination resorts I have ever visited. Very conveniently located only 25 minutes from brand new Liberia Airport. Staff was outstanding and very attentive. Rooms (and baths) are spacious -- showers even have view of the Pacific! Every room has a spacious balcony with views over the ocean. Although built on a hillside, golf cart service can be called by any of the restaurants on site. Food was OK but not great, perhaps the only drawback. Full use of nearby Four Seasons with complimentary shuttle. Four Seasons beaches better than at the Andaz. The Four Seasons Golf Course is incredible -- better views than Pebble Beach! Although visited in early June at beginning of rainy season, weather was delightful. Brief rain showers either in early AM or late PM, but not all day.

"Beautiful but secluded"
My girlfriend and I recently stayed at the resort and first off I need to say that the resort itself is beautiful and the staff is super friendly and accommodating. The only complaint that we have is that it is completely secluded from everything else. There is no night life at the resort. If you are a young couple looking to party then this ain't the resort for you. If you are looking to relax and get away from everything then this is a great place to stay. Kind of expensive as well.

"Fabulous stay at Andaz"
The property and architecture was extraordinary, the staff were always polite, engaging and willing to go out of their way to share insights and assist us and the rooms were extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the nice touches of the stocked refrigerator and snacks and the complimentary hats as well. The beach is not as nice as the four seasons but the pool was wonderful and I preferred the property of Andaz. The only drawback is that it is remote, 45 minutes by car to Playa de Coco or Hermosa if you wish to get beyond the property and experience a more real tico experience.

"Perfect Costa Rica vacation"
We visited the Andaz with our five year old daughter and when it was time to leave after one week, she cried – that has never happened before. Us parents felt the same way. We will miss the relaxed, low key atmosphere, fantastic food, beautiful beaches and especially the friendly staff. Everyone at Andaz was helpful and competent but if there were an award for the most child friendly team in hospitality, the Andaz's "cambi" kid's Club would win it. The people at cambi sincerely enjoy working with kids, keep them busy with interesting projects and create such a lovely atmosphere. Only downside: Parents have a hard time getting their kids out of there. Since Andaz faces the bay, beaches are rather quite. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle to beautiful beaches on the Pacific facing side of the peninsula where the big waves are. Spa, Gym, classes are also top notch. The nature in several National Parks in the area is beyond believe.

"GREAT resort - bring your credit card!"
Excellent resort. Meticulously maintained. Service is top notch, and 'traditional': Ask for anything and someone will jump to accommodate your every desire. Most everything comes at a fee. Accommodations: A Food: A- Service: A+ Spa: B+ Tips: Buy the breakfast package. $20 per room vs $23 per person if you purchase day of. Get a big stack of 500 Colones coins (worth a little less than a dollar). Their service staff will be all over you being helpful, and I like to be able to give a small gratuity for the 'little things'. Check out the marina next door - they'll arrange a free shuttle down there - the food down there is excellent and a bit cheaper. Forget the beach - stick to the pool. Food ordered at the pool is not subject to the 13% government tax on restaurants, so get your food and drinks down there if you have a choice. Don't forget to check out the literature they provide about the resort itself. There's a lot of stuff to do - some of it for free - in that booklet. Also: You can hitch a ride over to the 4 Seasons if you want to mix things up and get lunch over there while your spouse is golfing. Get up in the morning before sunrise and try to put yourself near the howler monkeys (the troupe moves around). Sunrise is spectacular as are the starry skies. We were able to cram the family into one of the standard rooms with a little cushion moving. It was a little tight. The Villas are extravagant and lovely.

"Modern hotel with room to improve"
If you are a Hyatt lover, you will enjoy your stay at this hotel. However… There are several things that they need to improve on that you should know about. First, the service at the main pool area and the main restaurant ( Rio Bhongo) was pretty awful. It was very chaotic, not orderly, and sometimes we thought they forgot all about us. Interestingly enough, the spa and the smaller tapas restaurant had much better service. Therefore, service overall at the hotel was extremely inconsistent. The rooms are great, but do not expect to hear the ocean or a lot of nature if your room is anywhere near most of the facilities. Most of the rooms according to our experience and other guests, were so close to air-conditioning units that you just heard the air-conditioning unit run. We were extremely disappointed in that. Don't expect a nice white sand beach on the Hyatt property. They have two small beaches, one for water sports of which was a darker sand rocky beach and one for leisure, of which was somewhat rocky. However, there's a gorgeous beach nearby called Prieta Beac Club that you can take a shuttle to. FYI, they claim the shuttle service, which is necessary if you don't have a car & want to leave the property, is complimentary. It is until 6pm but after that, they charge $25 to shuttle to the nearby properties for dinner. One negative thing about the area is you're pretty confined to the peninsula. The positive about that is the peninsula is gorgeous.

"Puuuuuuuuura Vida!"
First time to Costa Rica and it was for our Honeymoon. We flew into Liberia Airport and went to the Springs Resort in Arenal for 6 days then to the Andaz in Papagyo Peninsula for 6 days. Two completely different experiences as one is the rain forest and the other is the beach. Both were absolutely amazing! The Andaz opened about a 1 year ago and you can tell. It is in perfect shape from the gorgeous spa to the pools to the rooms to the restaurants. Everything looks brand new. They give you a ton of cool perks like each a straw hat in the room when you get there to complimentary non alcoholic drinks in the mini bar daily. A great Costa Rican beach bag to use for the your time then $30 to take it with you. The waiters at the pool will clean your sunglasses for you, provide you with sun screen, books. Complimentary sea kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and more. They go above and beyond the extra mile. Staying at the 4 Seasons down the street from the Andaz is a total waste as the Andaz is a third the cost and awesome! You can bounce around to the Pierto Beach Club, 4 Seasons Hotel, Marina, and Golf Club for free. 2 thumbs up!

The hotel and it's grounds are beautiful! The staff is always very polite, welcoming and hard working. If I return to the area, I will definitely stay here again. My only issue was that my credit card had over $16,000 in charges and holds when I checked out. Wow. We only stayed one night before flying out the next day and got a great price but the property delivered way more than we ever expected. Probably the friendliest and most helpful hotel staff I have ever encountered. Beautiful grounds, lovely design features, great food, muy tranquillo. The room was not only clean and immaculate but stunning with a killer shower that opens to the private deck. This is an isolated gem of a place - not the 'true' Costa Rica experience - but 30 minutes to the airport and on the beach. Not a huge beach, but very nice. Highly recommend this property.

"Perfect Getaway"
From the minute we set foot at Andaz we were transported to wonderful magical place. We could actually feel our pulse and breathing slow. Hard to describe the serenity and peacefulness of the place. The staff was really happy and they accommodated even the littlest things that we asked for---and better still, anticipated our every need. I stay in hotels all the time--and I am a critical and hard to please guest. Even though we ventured to other parts of Costa Rica, coming back to Andaz meant a time of relaxation and unhurried fun. Special. If you are looking for a resort with lots going on, you probably should look elsewhere. Here what you get is a pleasant and organic melding of the environment and world class service and facilities.

"The nicest hotel I've ever stayed before!"
Don't take the title lightly. I am fortunate to stay at great hotels around the world but the Andaz Papagayo was spectacular in all aspects. The details were right. From the extremely happy staff all the way to the hardware on the closet doors. My family was impressed by how interested the staff was in all their guests. Pablo took us on a short tour of the grounds upon check in. In depth enough to introduce us to the managers of the restaurants and the chef at their signature restaurant Ostra. This is the same guy who greeted us as we pulled up, checked us in, loaded our luggage and drove us to our room on a golf cart. None of the standard passing off from valet to cart man etc etc. The resort is on the same peninsula as the Four Seasons but has a lot more character and personal touch than the Four Seasons. Never do you feel gouged on prices (like many resorts). Little things like the mini bar is free with sodas and snacks are replenished each day. The paddle boards, sea kayaks, snorkeling gear and even the 30spf sunscreen are all included. The restaurant Chao Pescao was extraordinary. As good as a solid restaurant in NYC. The infinity pools are salt water pools and warm yet still refreshing.

"beautiful brand new resort... small beach"
very nice rooms, comfortable bed and facility, beautiful location, staff very friendly gave us free hats and flip flops, always water and snacks available for free... the resort has two beaches one beach was closed for some sort of repair but 2nd beach was very small.. also staff could have taken us to Four Seasons which is on the same peninsula as Andaz and heard they have beautiful beaches and Andaz provides free shuttle there but we didnt have time to go... we looked into the trips / excursions they offer but they are very expensive i would recommend booking with outside agency that will pick u up from the hotel. ... the hotel is in the middle of nowhere.. its beautiful where its at but its very secluded... we rented a car and its a 45 min drive to get to main road where they have a mall with a pharmacy, doctors clinic and coffee shop.. i wish i booked to stay here longer to discover the other side of the peninsula where four seasons is but there is always next time! oh yea and staff speaks EXCELLENT ENGLISH... their restaurants are expensive and because there is no where else to go you are kinda stuck eating there or you can go to Four Seasons they have their own restaurants but I would assume as pricey as Andaz.
