The resort is lovely - nice architecture - good access to amenities of the adjacent Four Seasons resort - nice pools - excellent service. There's not much to do in Papagayo without having a car and will to travel up to 2 hours. Surfing is 1.5-2 hours away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful resort. Great food. Wonderful service. Somewhat remote and very private. Arranged tours thru hotel and they were very professional and good. Will come back soon hopefully.Genuine Expedia guest review
We went during the rainy season and it wasn't bad at all. The rain would come in the afternoon for about an hour. If you are going during the rainy season definitely plan all your activities in the AM. Hotel was very child friendly but also many couples were there as well. Pros: - beautiful and clean room - lots of free amenities (nice his/hers hats […] for the sun, flip flops, water, snacks) - also provided a YSL tote for the beach and umbrellas for the afternoon rain - free beach activities (jet skis, kayaking, paddle boards, snorkels) - onsite car rental - friendly and helpful staff Cons: - no AC in restaurants - although open air restaurants are beautiful after climbing hills and stairs to get to them you want some AC - long walk to any where within the hotel (with lots of stairs). the good thing is you can call a club car to give you a ride to your destination. Andaz Papagayo Resort is spectacular! The resort is pristine in appearance and comfort. It is a fusion of Nature and modernism so you have the comforts of a modern resort combined with the nurturing and healing aspects of Nature. I found many isolated spots in the resort that allowed me to write, meditate and relax. There are ample pools (including […] an adult-only) bathing area and you walk through a forested area to reach the beach. The staff is wonderful. Andrea and Michael who work in the open air lobby are extraordinarily helpful, accommodating and kind. My stay at the resort was wonderful, and I hope to come back again! Incredibly charming and beautiful resort. Not near anything, but it's so wonderful you won't want to go anywhere. And they'll arrange trips for you if you want...but in 5 days we never did.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is quiant and private. The staff was awesome and the food was great. The amenities were comparable with upscale hotels but the location and intimate setting made it feel very exclusive. Definitely a must for couples!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to relax."
Great pool and lots of free beach activities (Paddle boards, kayaks and snorkeling.) not much night life but food and drinks at tapas restaurant are fun. Staff are friendly and very helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
My husband and I visited the Andaz Papagayo Resort for a quick, long weekend getaway in July 2014. The resort is GORGEOUS and, having just opened in December 2013, in excellent condition. The staff was very friendly and accommodating-- we were travelling from the US and spoke minimal Spanish, but everyone there seemed to speak English. Pros: -Luxurious […] rooms -Beautiful and relaxing infinity pools -Private beach with complimentary water gear (kayaks, paddle boards, etc.) Cons: -Lots of animals roam around the resort. This was a pro for spotting monkeys in trees and even iguanas on rocks by the pool, but a definite con when a large coati (basically a raccoon) would walk through restaurants every hour of the day while dining. -The resort is very large and not very well lit. So, getting around at night is challenging. Conveniently, you can call the front desk to request a golf cart to transport you, but the carts are not always available. (One evening, we called for a cart and nearly 30 minutes later, one had not arrived and we walked back to our room-- well over a 1/4 mile-- in complete darkness. This was a bit scary given aforementioned animals walking around resort.) -Food is exorbitantly priced. ($50 for a simple eggs and coffee breakfast for two.) But, this is to be expected. So, we weren't too upset/ disappointed by this. All in all, we had an incredible time. I would go back, but my husband was a bit turned off by the animals. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Hotel is beautiful. Rooms, views, landscaping wonderful. Staff did not address a couple of requests but that could be due to language barrier or not. Beach area small. Love the architecture.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great staff, Great isolated location"
The hotel staff were outstanding. They went out of their way to be nice and help in every way possible. What you need to know about the hotel location though is that it is isolated and there is no easy way of getting to any nearby towns or attractions without renting a car, or paying a lot (a whole lot) for a private driver. This was fine for us because […] we were trying to get far away from everything and only planned two trips into the towns. If you are looking for night life or touristy areas like Coco Beach and Tamarindo this is probably not the location to stay unless you have a rental car. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Amazing Pura Vida (Pure Life) Hotel"
This is an amazing boutique-like hotel nestled on the hills of Papagayo Peninsula. The hotel is brand-new (we stayed in July 2014), super clean and with amazing approach to design - the grounds, the rooms, the restaurants are impeccable. The pools are gorgeous and the stuff is friendly. I would rate this hotel higher than many 5-star hotels from the […] top hotel brands (I mean, it is a five-star hotel by any measure). Really brilliant room with lots of natural materials and textures. Smart design with closet console creating hallway between sleeping area and bathroom and balcony area. A beautiful property with a very friendly and helpful staff. The property is relatively new (Dec 13) and there is still room for some improvement but the staff is reseptive and anxious to grow. I highly recommed renting a car and getting off the proerty as it can be a bit isolated, however that is also part of it's charm.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful location/vegetation, Very Private"
Andaz is not a typical Hyatt resort. It targets "Bohemian Professionals". Most guests were in a 25-35 age group. If you are 50+, 60+, 70+, you must be fit (lots of steps to climb). We arrived during the rainy season and there was not a droplet of rain; blue sky and sun every day and no mosquitos (Papagayo Penninsula!). We had all pools and two beaches […] to ourselves; one with volcanic (black) sand is where you get (complimentary) kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling gear and comfortable chaises; the second beach (golden sand) is better for swimming; both are surrounded by beautiful native vegetation (tropical dry forest with lots of cacti). Only one restaurant, RIO BHONGO was opened (the other two will reopen in high season); like most people visiting Andaz, we made “mandatory” dining trips to Four Seasons, Prieta Beach Club, and the Dive Bar (at the marina). The resort provides free shuttles to each until 6pm; we paid $12.50 for returns to the hotel. A trip (15/20/10 minutes) to either one is worth the return fee (spectacular views; lots of monkeys; awesome birds). Andaz's Rio Bhongo restaurant was very good; for half price (when compared to FS) it offers delicious food/very good service. Overall, Andaz is a work in progress; a beautiful resort that can one day get 5 stars but for now guests should be prepare for some glitches and have a great time despite mishaps (Ignacio and Rebeka are superb problem solvers). The Andaz Papagayo was perfect for what we wanted after our wedding. Something relaxing, clean, private and far from everything. We are typically active travellers, but just wanted to relax on our honeymoon after a long wedding planning process and week. This was perfect. There are only two other hotels near by and the closest town is 40minutes away. […] It was also slow season so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. If you want to be closer to towns and sights, you might want to look somewhere else. If you want to relax in a secluded area, with great service, beautiful property this is the place. I will admit you don't get a true sense of Costa Rica, but that was not what we were looking for. Also, I say great service. The people were great, but service was slow at times. That being said, there is no reason to rush in Costa Rica anyways Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We just returned from 6 days at the hotel and absolutely loved our stay. The rooms are very romantic, including the amazing shower that the glass doors opens onto your balcony so it feels like you are showering in the hills where the hotel is located. Very romantic spot, perfect for a couple. The resort has more of a contemporary feel and the staff […] is younger. The hotel only opened in December so the formal restaurant is not open but there are two restaurants available. The tapas restaurant is fun. Staff is incredibly nice and accomodating, we truly enjoyed our stay. The Four Seasons is next door and there is transportion available. I, however, are very happy we stayed at the Andaz over the Four Seasons given the personal service available and the difference in price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful resort but very secluded"
We had a great stay - they even upgraded our room which has a beautiful view - and would highly recommend the place. We were there in the off season and practically had the place to ourselves. Monkeys linger around and exitic birds come and go, which makes for nice traditional Costa Rican experience. However, the hotel is difficult to get to and once […] you're on the property you are at the mercy of hotel food costs and activities are limited and pricey. Beautiful beaches are closeby - I would suggest taking a jet ski out early/mid morning to see the surrounding areas (we went in the afternoon and it was way too wavey - not worth it). Paddle boards and kayaks are complimentary for an hour but unfortunately you can't go very far. Walkways are steep on the grounds but they have many golf carts available to help get you around if needed. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
If you want to go somewhere to relax, I definitely say Andaz is the place. Probally the best room I have stayed in and the service is awesome! The hotel over looks Cuelbra Bay, I definitely recommend getting a Partial Bay view room. You have a little more privacy and you still get an excellent view of the bay. The mini bar is complimentary and at the […] pools, they are always walking around with free water. My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and it was the perfect amount of time to wind down. It is located on the Pennisula next to the Four Seasons, so a little secluded from towns, but that is what we were looking for. The Tapas restuarant is a MUST!! "Beautiful New property has a few kinks."
Newly opened property needs to work out a few kinks. The breakfast buffet is a poor value with limited options. Try the Four Seasons its cheaper and offers much more. Kids food offerings need to be expanded. Hotdogs, Pizza, quesadillas Fish Taco's etc. at poolside and room service also please! Overall the food and drinks in all the restaurants on property […] were quite good but expensive. Also the kids programing pretty much was guests supervising their kids in the pool. The setting for the hotel sits sublimely above the gulf on the hillside. Its quite spread out so if walking is challenging then you might be calling for carts to assist. Beach access is also fairly steep so you might puff a bit coming back up. The pools are beautiful. The architecture very harmonized to the location. East facing so morning sun is powerful. Disappointingly, though, we paid the hotel $50.00 for sunscreen that cost $15.00 in town. What's up with that? Despite a few kinks our family really enjoyed our stay at Andaz Papagayo and will return again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It was very nice to be at a brand new resort. While they have a few minor quirks to workout, it is amazing! Go to the beach club while you are there. The hotel will drive you there without any charge before 6 pm. A lot of visitors from the four seasons visit as well. The best restaurant on the property is Ostra, seafood restaurant, very nice atmosphere, […] service and food!!! The spa was amazing, the watersports are free excluding day boat trips or jet skis. This should be something the hotel markets more. You should book hotel travel from airport by the #1 company Costa Rica tours. It's $80 and very professional. Just returned from 8 days at Andaz! I really enjoyed the property. Brought our 2 1/2 year old daughter. Very friendly place for families. Great food, great spa, really nice rooms (although I wish they would trim the trees just a little so you can see the water). The staff was exceptionally friendly. I would say the only downfall on the staff side is somewhat inconsistent service and occasional forgetfulness in the restaurants/pool and beach areas. The staff is so nice I found myself forgetting about that, but it does need to get tighter to make this place 5 stars. The beach was natural and beautiful with no waves which make it nice for swimming/paddle boarding/jet skis although I wish they could dump 20 tons of softer white sand-)

My boyfriend and I stayed @ the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo resort from November 20th to November 25th. It was absolutely amazing. The staff is great and friendly wherever you go. From the moment you arrive everyone does their best to make you feel welcomed. The food was great. We loved Chao Pescao so much we ended up going three times for dinner, the Chifrijo is a MUST try and the mixologist there is very well known for his drinks. I HIGHLY recommend the chocolate bread pudding located in Rio Bhongo. Its out of this world. We stayed on the third floor in building 4. Waking up to those views everyday was perfect. We usually had in-room breakfast service to enjoy the views, it was lovely. We were extremely close to the adults only pool, its a very relaxing atmosphere there so we took a few dips here and there. Rooms were always done and the fridge was always filled. We aren't soda drinkers so we requested to have mostly water bottles available. We spend most of our pool time in the main area it was just our personal preference. David is really cool and like everyone else is there for anything you need by the pool. We did the couples massage, that was GREAT! It was in an outside room with relaxing musics and again spectacular views of the water. We rented a car so we drove down to Tamarindo Beach, it was about 26 miles but it took about an hour and fifteen minutes to arrive. The scenic views are nice. Tamarindo beach is a great place to surf as we saw and also have a lot of tourists AND locals hanging out on the block. Great for food and shopping. All in all time well spent. I highly recommend this resort.
"Tremendous vacation, small items would make it Perfect!"

My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Andaz for our 1 year anniversary. Overall the resort is beautiful and not overwhelming as it is not a mega resort. Rooms are quite spacious and comfortable and the free snacks and drinks in the room are a nice touch. Our favorite part of the hotel was the beach. My wife and I loved how calm the water is and how you can sit under the treeline to get shade. We were only able to see the beach below the adult pool as the other beach was getting some work done. Overall the only thing I found not 5 star at this hotel was the food. Breakfast and lunch were good but not overwhelming and honestly fairly expensive. If you book this hotel make sure to do the breakfast included rate, as the buffet ends up costing close to $70 for a couple. Coming from New York City this feels quite expensive. For dinner my personal favorite was Ostra and specifically the ceviches! Overall my wife and I loved Costa Rica and will vacation here again!

Got to the Andaz and was truly over the top happy with the service and friendliness of the staff. We felt like we were living in nature vs. in a conference type hotel. It was beautiful. Watched monkeys swing by on the trees, relaxed in the pools, and ate the best Corvina/Sea Bass ever. The rooms were completely equipped with mini bar and snacks, and in our case, no extra charge. The Four Seasons is nearby and we went to see it but the Andaz was more of a private oasis...and we would go back there because of it's serene atmosphere. Also, used the spa and fell asleep. Spa rooms were also a great place to unwind with trees right outside the room with music of your choice playing in the background.

Amazing property, incredible service, multiple pools, 2 beaches, and at least 5 property activities a day. The rooms are fantastic, modern, and spacious...with a huge shower and large balcony. November is a great time to visit, as rainy season is finished, and it is warm. Only downside is that the tours are a bit pricey. This is truly paradise.... we don't want to leave.

My husband and I came here for a quick 3 night getaway. We have stayed in numerous high end hotels in Costa Rica and this is by far my favorite. The staff was incredible! Always wanting to help and very friendly. The food in all of the restaurants was fantastic! The rooms are simple, clean and relaxing. I would recommend this over the Four Seasons Resort, as the restaurants are better, the staff is friendlier and it's less expensive. The beach was beautiful and the pools were very relaxing!
"“ Fantastic Experience- Hyatt Andaz Papagayo”"

My wife and two children just returned from a wonderful stay at the Andaz in Papagayo, the food was delicious, we recommend the Tapas restaurant!!. The property is gorgeous and clean, we really enjoyed walking around the grounds during the afternoons, loved to see monkeys and birds. You will find three pools, all are stunning, fresh and warm water. Pool staff also was very friendly and attentive with us all the time. The beach is beautiful, clean and very relaxing. We did a private full day of sport fishing with FAYLA Tours in Papagayo. It was all amazing, an unforgettable day for me and my son! Best experience ever….! This adventure was previously booked, ask for Chris, the owner, http://www.costaricafaylatours.com, you will not feel disappointed. We have visited other great resorts in the Caribbean but, hands down the Andaz Resort, is much nicer and the staff is much friendlier and fun compared to any other we have been to. We could not have asked for a nicer getaway; the rooms, privacy and pura vida life of the costarican people made our trip an unforgettable experience for my family.
"Simply one of the best designed hotels in the world."
11/17/14 Edward T Lafayette, United States
This simply is one of the best designed hotels in the world. I loved the use of wood and the open air nature of almost all the public spaces. The main infinity pool is beautiful. I liked the simplicity of the rooms. I did not experience the service issues other reviewers had. Everyone from the people at check in to the servers bringing drinks by the pool were wonderful. The property shares the Pennisula with the Four Seasons. Checked out the Four Seasons and was so happy I choose the Andaz.
"Serene, elegant resort in remote area"
11/17/14 Cyclingknitter Bethesda, Maryland
Serene, beautiful eco-elegant resort on the Bahia Culebra in Papagayo. Very friendly, helpful staff that never failed to greet you with a smile; the same people work at the restaurants and the beach, and over a few days they recognize you and you them. Gorgeous rooms with rain-head showers that open out onto enclosed patios; lovely views; firm, comfortable beds and many complimentary touches--free minibar, hats, flip flops, watersports, bottled water. Saw coatimundi and capuchin monkeys while lounging by one of the two infinity pools. Fabulous spa with private rooms for massage and facial. The cana brava massage with bamboo cane rollers for deep tissue work is not to be missed. The only drawbacks: only one restaurant open for lunch; no shops; a remote location far from Monteverde, Palo Verde, and the other eco-tourism locations; and for those who don't like walking, a hilly property. But it was perfect for a peaceful, relaxing getaway where you could see the stars at night and hear only the wildlife. Lovely.
