Fantastic resort with a great team. Our second trip to the Andaz and we will certainly go back. Service is amazing and every single staff member is super friendly. Management even upgraded us to a suite. Love this place!

One of the best destination resorts I have ever visited. Very conveniently located only 25 minutes from brand new Liberia Airport. Staff was outstanding and very attentive. Rooms (and baths) are spacious -- showers even have view of the Pacific! Every room has a spacious balcony with views over the ocean. Although built on a hillside, golf cart service can be called by any of the restaurants on site. Food was OK but not great, perhaps the only drawback. Full use of nearby Four Seasons with complimentary shuttle. Four Seasons beaches better than at the Andaz. The Four Seasons Golf Course is incredible -- better views than Pebble Beach! Although visited in early June at beginning of rainy season, weather was delightful. Brief rain showers either in early AM or late PM, but not all day.

We visited the Andaz with our five year old daughter and when it was time to leave after one week, she cried – that has never happened before. Us parents felt the same way. We will miss the relaxed, low key atmosphere, fantastic food, beautiful beaches and especially the friendly staff. Everyone at Andaz was helpful and competent but if there were an award for the most child friendly team in hospitality, the Andaz's "cambi" kid's Club would win it. The people at cambi sincerely enjoy working with kids, keep them busy with interesting projects and create such a lovely atmosphere. Only downside: Parents have a hard time getting their kids out of there. Since Andaz faces the bay, beaches are rather quite. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle to beautiful beaches on the Pacific facing side of the peninsula where the big waves are. Spa, Gym, classes are also top notch. The nature in several National Parks in the area is beyond believe.

Excellent resort. Meticulously maintained. Service is top notch, and 'traditional': Ask for anything and someone will jump to accommodate your every desire. Most everything comes at a fee. Accommodations: A Food: A- Service: A+ Spa: B+ Tips: Buy the breakfast package. $20 per room vs $23 per person if you purchase day of. Get a big stack of 500 Colones coins (worth a little less than a dollar). Their service staff will be all over you being helpful, and I like to be able to give a small gratuity for the 'little things'. Check out the marina next door - they'll arrange a free shuttle down there - the food down there is excellent and a bit cheaper. Forget the beach - stick to the pool. Food ordered at the pool is not subject to the 13% government tax on restaurants, so get your food and drinks down there if you have a choice. Don't forget to check out the literature they provide about the resort itself. There's a lot of stuff to do - some of it for free - in that booklet. Also: You can hitch a ride over to the 4 Seasons if you want to mix things up and get lunch over there while your spouse is golfing. Get up in the morning before sunrise and try to put yourself near the howler monkeys (the troupe moves around). Sunrise is spectacular as are the starry skies. We were able to cram the family into one of the standard rooms with a little cushion moving. It was a little tight. The Villas are extravagant and lovely.

If you are a Hyatt lover, you will enjoy your stay at this hotel. However… There are several things that they need to improve on that you should know about. First, the service at the main pool area and the main restaurant ( Rio Bhongo) was pretty awful. It was very chaotic, not orderly, and sometimes we thought they forgot all about us. Interestingly enough, the spa and the smaller tapas restaurant had much better service. Therefore, service overall at the hotel was extremely inconsistent. The rooms are great, but do not expect to hear the ocean or a lot of nature if your room is anywhere near most of the facilities. Most of the rooms according to our experience and other guests, were so close to air-conditioning units that you just heard the air-conditioning unit run. We were extremely disappointed in that. Don't expect a nice white sand beach on the Hyatt property. They have two small beaches, one for water sports of which was a darker sand rocky beach and one for leisure, of which was somewhat rocky. However, there's a gorgeous beach nearby called Prieta Beac Club that you can take a shuttle to. FYI, they claim the shuttle service, which is necessary if you don't have a car & want to leave the property, is complimentary. It is until 6pm but after that, they charge $25 to shuttle to the nearby properties for dinner. One negative thing about the area is you're pretty confined to the peninsula. The positive about that is the peninsula is gorgeous.

Resort is very nice. They did a great job incorporating it into the hillside. The staff was very friendly and food excellent. The pathways are a bit steep to get down to beach but staffers always ask you if you want a ride. Beach is a little small but nice loungers & free ice water. All beverages and snacks in room are complimentary as well as beach hats & flip flops. Highly recommend!

First time to Costa Rica and it was for our Honeymoon. We flew into Liberia Airport and went to the Springs Resort in Arenal for 6 days then to the Andaz in Papagyo Peninsula for 6 days. Two completely different experiences as one is the rain forest and the other is the beach. Both were absolutely amazing! The Andaz opened about a 1 year ago and you can tell. It is in perfect shape from the gorgeous spa to the pools to the rooms to the restaurants. Everything looks brand new. They give you a ton of cool perks like each a straw hat in the room when you get there to complimentary non alcoholic drinks in the mini bar daily. A great Costa Rican beach bag to use for the your time then $30 to take it with you. The waiters at the pool will clean your sunglasses for you, provide you with sun screen, books. Complimentary sea kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and more. They go above and beyond the extra mile. Staying at the 4 Seasons down the street from the Andaz is a total waste as the Andaz is a third the cost and awesome! You can bounce around to the Pierto Beach Club, 4 Seasons Hotel, Marina, and Golf Club for free. 2 thumbs up!

My 22 year old daughter and I fell in love with this hotel and the people that work there. Absolutely top notch from the moment we arrived and were greeted by Helmat (forgive my spelling of your name) to our amazing room, fabulous food and the most outstanding unique cocktails that will blow your mind away at Chao Pescao Tapas Bar. The vibe of this hotel is cool, fun, very chill. We stayed at the Four Seasons prior to coming over to the Andaz and just loved the vibe from the minute we walked in the lobby. Completely different feel from Four Seasons. Younger, cooler vibe. The staff is young and friendly, super accommodating. I can't say enough amazing things about this place!

The hotel and it's grounds are beautiful! The staff is always very polite, welcoming and hard working. If I return to the area, I will definitely stay here again. My only issue was that my credit card had over $16,000 in charges and holds when I checked out. While the staff acknowledged that this was a mistake and worked (over a few days after I returned home to fix the problem), it was a bit of a stressful situation.

Wow. We only stayed one night before flying out the next day and got a great price but the property delivered way more than we ever expected. Probably the friendliest and most helpful hotel staff I have ever encountered. Beautiful grounds, lovely design features, great food, muy tranquillo. The room was not only clean and immaculate but stunning with a killer shower that opens to the private deck. This is an isolated gem of a place - not the 'true' Costa Rica experience - but 30 minutes to the airport and on the beach. Not a huge beach, but very nice. Highly recommend this property.

From the minute we set foot at Andaz we were transported to wonderful magical place. We could actually feel our pulse and breathing slow. Hard to describe the serenity and peacefulness of the place. The staff was really happy and they accommodated even the littlest things that we asked for---and better still, anticipated our every need. I stay in hotels all the time--and I am a critical and hard to please guest. Even though we ventured to other parts of Costa Rica, coming back to Andaz meant a time of relaxation and unhurried fun. Special. If you are looking for a resort with lots going on, you probably should look elsewhere. Here what you get is a pleasant and organic melding of the environment and world class service and facilities.

Don't take the title lightly. I am fortunate to stay at great hotels around the world but the Andaz Papagayo was spectacular in all aspects. The details were right. From the extremely happy staff all the way to the hardware on the closet doors. My family was impressed by how interested the staff was in all their guests. Pablo took us on a short tour of the grounds upon check in. In depth enough to introduce us to the managers of the restaurants and the chef at their signature restaurant Ostra. This is the same guy who greeted us as we pulled up, checked us in, loaded our luggage and drove us to our room on a golf cart. None of the standard passing off from valet to cart man etc etc. The resort is on the same peninsula as the Four Seasons but has a lot more character and personal touch than the Four Seasons. Never do you feel gouged on prices (like many resorts). Little things like the mini bar is free with sodas and snacks are replenished each day. The paddle boards, sea kayaks, snorkeling gear and even the 30spf sunscreen are all included. The restaurant Chao Pescao was extraordinary. As good as a solid restaurant in NYC. The infinity pools are salt water pools and warm yet still refreshing.

very nice rooms, comfortable bed and facility, beautiful location, staff very friendly gave us free hats and flip flops, always water and snacks available for free... the resort has two beaches one beach was closed for some sort of repair but 2nd beach was very small.. also staff could have taken us to Four Seasons which is on the same peninsula as Andaz and heard they have beautiful beaches and Andaz provides free shuttle there but we didnt have time to go... we looked into the trips / excursions they offer but they are very expensive i would recommend booking with outside agency that will pick u up from the hotel. ... the hotel is in the middle of nowhere.. its beautiful where its at but its very secluded... we rented a car and its a 45 min drive to get to main road where they have a mall with a pharmacy, doctors clinic and coffee shop.. i wish i booked to stay here longer to discover the other side of the peninsula where four seasons is but there is always next time! oh yea and staff speaks EXCELLENT ENGLISH... their restaurants are expensive and because there is no where else to go you are kinda stuck eating there or you can go to Four Seasons they have their own restaurants but I would assume as pricey as Andaz.

As a couple this was a perfect getaway. It is an exclusive place to enjoy the entire grounds and feel very relaxed everywhere you go. The privacy of the beaches without any vendors was great. The service at the beach was just as good as poolside. Restaurants were very good also. Drinks and food were expensive. We would go back as a couple again. They were very accommodating and offered excellent service everywhere. The first morning I awoke to what I thought was dog barking. After I phoned the desk, I was told it was the howler monkeys! Loved hearing them. Also loved seeing the white faced monkeys passing through in the trees.

It was the tail end of the wet season, so the hotel was not completely full. This made it very nice and quiet. The hotel is great. The room layout is great. The staff and food are great. Location is on the same peninsula as the Four Seasons, with exclusive access only for hotel guests. That made it very safe. Spa was great. Probably would rent a car next time - just for a few days to go sight seeing. Taxi costs were high due to the location of this hotel.

We stayed at the Andaz Papagayo in October and absolutely loved it. The staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. They made an effort to remember our names, preferences at restaurants and were very helpful with one of the travelers with food allergies. The hotel has thought of all the small things that make the stay more relaxing...complimentary snacks and drinks daily, flip flops and beach bags for use during the stay, umbrellas and hats as well as sunscreen at the beach and pools. The rooms were incredibly comfortable with really nice touches in the design and always clean with regular daily cleaning service and turndown service in the evenings. There was a good selection at the hotel restaurants and prices were reasonable, although it could be a bit of a hike on hilly terrain to get to/from the restaurant. Restaurants were closed on alternating days during the low season, but it wasnt a very big deal. Pools and beach were nice with several activities (kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, etc) at your fingertips. Staff was always available to provide drinks, towels, water, food or simply answer questions. It was truly a wonderful experience.

I couldn't decide between andaz or four season. They are only 5 miles apart. The andaz is new, fresh, and has a wonderful design. The staff is great and the cocktails are perfect. Food is four star. Now for the negatives. The andaz has two Infiniti pools and I have no idea why. The view of the ocean from the pool is completely blocked by hundreds of trees. Who wants to swim in an infinity pool at the Pacific Ocean and not see an ocean view. Also, no rooms have views of ocean. I purchased an ocean view room and could only see trees. U can walk through a forest of trees and mud to the two beaches but both beaches are in gulf. So it's basically a beautiful lake view. No waves, sand isn't as good as open water beach, and u cannot see open water. Four seasons has one gulf side and one open water side with waves, fresh sand, and the most fantastic endless views of ocean and lush cliffs I've ever seen. I spent majority of my time at four season which also had shopping. Four seasons pool had views to both the gulf and open ocean. The biggest downfall is andaz charges a 13% tax for country and a 10% tax on every purchase. I spent $59 on breakfast for one and $125 on dinner for two. It's ridiculious. Who wants to pay that much inflation for maybe four star food. Don't get me wrong, it's good food and great service but for these prices without any drinks I could eat at 5 star steak houses. Neither restraunts had ocean views only tree views. And it's a lot of walking to get to reatraunt

Stayed here for 5 days on my honeymoon. Staff was always friendly and welcoming. Had some activities to do while on the resort. The food was a little pricey and not many options that really interested me. Also, due to its location away from the city it's hard to find other things outside of the resort to do. There are tours available from a partner company. Only other way you can leave the resort is if you rent a car.

Incredible..... Beautiful resort. Spectacular views.. wildlife... Monkeys in the trees when we arrived... Dolphins in the bay from our views from our room, Balcony and shower that opened up to the balcony. Iguanas everywhere. Food was great in Chao Pescao (dinner and happy hour) as well as Rio Bhongo coffee bar with the Chortado and the corn cake Choreadas.... WOW! Facility and layout were great. Gym, pools, Blacksand AND whitesand private beach. The staff here are world class and friendliest as well.... Shout out to Andrea and Mike when we arrived and set us up..... Allen, Luis, Johan in Rio Bhongo who made our Chortada and soy latte every morning... Estephanie, Lissette and Celeste at Chao Pescao and Fernando and Juan Carlos at the beach who all took great care of us

The resort is lovely - nice architecture - good access to amenities of the adjacent Four Seasons resort - nice pools - excellent service. There's not much to do in Papagayo without having a car and will to travel up to 2 hours. Surfing is 1.5-2 hours away.

My boyfriend and I got the andaz king size room. We drove to the property in our rental and it's a compound. There's a massive long driveway that's gated that leads to another gate before you end up at the "lobby". This lobby is the most impressive I've ever seen. It was like a bandshell made with bamboo. At reception, you're given water and a cool towel while you sit and enjoy the view. Jay jay helped us tour around the grounds in his golf cart. When we finally got to our room, our jaws dropped. They offer you hats, robes, a beach bag, complimentary mini bar and much more. The shower opens out to your terrace where you can gaze out to the sunrise and marina. Absolutely gorgeous! We enjoyed the facility and all amenities during our stay. My only complaint was that our last day, the steam room, which we were both dying to try wasn't open. We kept being told it'd be open in another hour, then another half hour then they told us it needed repairs. Bummer!

We went during the rainy season and it wasn't bad at all. The rain would come in the afternoon for about an hour. If you are going during the rainy season definitely plan all your activities in the AM. Hotel was very child friendly but also many couples were there as well. Pros: - beautiful and clean room - lots of free amenities (nice his/hers hats for the sun, flip flops, water, snacks) - also provided a YSL tote for the beach and umbrellas for the afternoon rain - free beach activities (jet skis, kayaking, paddle boards, snorkels) - onsite car rental - friendly and helpful staff Cons: - no AC in restaurants - although open air restaurants are beautiful after climbing hills and stairs to get to them you want some AC - long walk to any where within the hotel (with lots of stairs). the good thing is you can call a club car to give you a ride to your destination.

Andaz Papagayo Resort is spectacular! The resort is pristine in appearance and comfort. It is a fusion of Nature and modernism so you have the comforts of a modern resort combined with the nurturing and healing aspects of Nature. I found many isolated spots in the resort that allowed me to write, meditate and relax. There are ample pools (including an adult-only) bathing area and you walk through a forested area to reach the beach. The staff is wonderful. Andrea and Michael who work in the open air lobby are extraordinarily helpful, accommodating and kind. My stay at the resort was wonderful, and I hope to come back again!

The staff was excellent. If you want seclusion this is the spot. Only been open 9 months. There still in the expansion process. Beautiful grounds abd 24hr room service. I would suggest going to the Preita Beach Club which the shuttle to every hour at no charge. Snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle boarding are offered free of charge. All positives here.

This hotel is quiant and private. The staff was awesome and the food was great. The amenities were comparable with upscale hotels but the location and intimate setting made it feel very exclusive. Definitely a must for couples!

My husband and I visited the Andaz Papagayo Resort for a quick, long weekend getaway in July 2014. The resort is GORGEOUS and, having just opened in December 2013, in excellent condition. The staff was very friendly and accommodating-- we were travelling from the US and spoke minimal Spanish, but everyone there seemed to speak English. Pros: -Luxurious rooms -Beautiful and relaxing infinity pools -Private beach with complimentary water gear (kayaks, paddle boards, etc.) Cons: -Lots of animals roam around the resort. This was a pro for spotting monkeys in trees and even iguanas on rocks by the pool, but a definite con when a large coati (basically a raccoon) would walk through restaurants every hour of the day while dining. -The resort is very large and not very well lit. So, getting around at night is challenging. Conveniently, you can call the front desk to request a golf cart to transport you, but the carts are not always available. (One evening, we called for a cart and nearly 30 minutes later, one had not arrived and we walked back to our room-- well over a 1/4 mile-- in complete darkness. This was a bit scary given aforementioned animals walking around resort.) -Food is exorbitantly priced. ($50 for a simple eggs and coffee breakfast for two.) But, this is to be expected. So, we weren't too upset/ disappointed by this. All in all, we had an incredible time. I would go back, but my husband was a bit turned off by the animals.

Hotel is beautiful. Rooms, views, landscaping wonderful. Staff did not address a couple of requests but that could be due to language barrier or not. Beach area small. Love the architecture.
