"Go Go To the SoCo Hotel Hastings, Barbados"
07/25/14 sevelin Austin, Texas
Well after many months of waiting for the official opening of the SoCo to get finished , I was very impressed. Although parking is a bit difficult, during dinner hour if you are staying there , the stff will facilitate that. Anyway the entrance is white modern yet has that easy beachy feel that one wants at a beach Hotel.Right on the beach at Hastings where they have renovated the coastline with new concrete and wooden boardwalks which makes walk along the beach so wonderful.Used to be all rocks and difficult to manage. The pool deck opens into an open area with tables for outside dinning and a wonderful large bar off to the end so not to block the view. Friends and I ate a fix prix dinner which was fabulous,3 course .The rooms were beautiful sleek and the staff were hand picked by the owner to reflect the best of the best of staff. I asked !!The bar has become an meeting place for international business and local celebs, however they made everyone feel like celebs the minute we arrived..A sexy hang out for the evening for sure. The hotel is right in the middle of the south coast so it is easy to get to the airport and close to the night life of Oistins and St.Lawrence Gap but to the west is easy access to Bridgetown.
"Beautiful 10 days in Barbados"
07/25/14 Airwavesblue Wickford, United Kingdom
We were welcomed by the team with cold towels and a rum punch. The hotel was quiet, with only 6-7 rooms being occupied. The rooms are modern, clean and spacious. We had a large flat screen TV, hair dryer, ironing board, safe, coffee machine and fridge. The coffee in the room was better than what was served at breakfast. All rooms come with a balcony and a beautiful view of the sea, however the second floor rooms and below are easily looked into from the pool area. The hotel offers 2 internet connections per room, however the signal is awful and drops out constantly, which was quite frustrating. The food is very good, though the choice is limited and the menu is only rotated every 3 days. The menu is also then recycled back over a 9 day period. I can imagine this could be quite a problem for fussier eaters, however if we wanted to change anything they were always more than happy to accomodate. The chef is clearly very skilled, so it was a shame the choices were quite limited. On each menu option there are up to three dishes which require a supplement charge, which is higher than the main dishes at the local restaurants. Overall the menu is good, but needs improving in variety and less supplements. Due to the limited menu we chose to eat out at some lovely local restaurants including Tides, Champers, Sandy Lane, Cin Cin and the Cliff. All are highly, highly recommended, with the exception of Cin Cin which we felt visually wowed but the food was average. (The Cliff is the best, just wow.) We were also offered a romantic meal on the terrace away from the hotel restaurant, which we took advantage of twice, though both nights we were joined with another table next to us, which is bit of a mood killer. There is only an outside bar with no cover, so when it rains this isn't ideal. Though it is advertised as premium drinks are provided, there are none apart from Smirnoff. The bar didn't stock the locally brewed beverages. Rum (Mount Gay) or Beer (Banks). There was a Banks Draft tap, though this appeared to be just for show. There isn't a drinks menu either. Every Monday there is a management cocktail party which all guests are invited to. We went twice and on both occasions there was no management in attendance. That said this is a good opportunity to meet with other guests and we met some great people who really made our trip. The location of the hotel is very good, away from any noisy bars or busy beaches if you're after that sort of holiday. The rocks near the hotel are home to many kinds of fish, so bring a snorkel mask and save a piece of toast from breakfast. There is also a permanent shallow, natural pool which is great and safe for children. There are plenty of small beaches walking distance in either direction. The boardwalk makes for a lovely walk any time and is an endless source of entertainment. The pool is quite small but prefect for a dip. The sun beds were very comfortable and of high quality. Trips. We went on the catamaran (El Tigre) which was a brilliant day which included all drinks, swimming with turtles, snorkelling, shipwreck and lunch. The prices was reasonable at $140US for both of us. We also went to Harrison's cave which is a good experience and very interesting. We hired a local island tour which manly consisted of sites we had asked to be included. It's worth the trip, but the cost at the hotel seemed expensive at $200US for 2, basically for a taxi. Other guests got this in town for cira. $150US for up to 6 people. A couple of good activities which are free are the cocktail testing at the bar with Michelle and also walking along the board-walk, where in the evening you can, if you're lucky in season, see turtles laying their eggs which is a fantastic experience. Additionally on Thursdays and Sundays (Sundays there are apparently more horses) you can watch the race horses being washed at pebbles beach near the Raddison hotel. Be prepared to get there for 6am to see it! Oistins on a Friday night is an absolute must and very easy to get to using the friendly local Reggae buses, who charge only 1 US for any journey. A trip to Bathsheba, Flower Forest and the rocky north of the island is also highly recommended. Over all we have a brilliant trip and loved Barbados. There are a few teething problems but it is only a new hotel and I have no doubt they will only go onwards and upwards. It was a pleasure staying there, thank you Soco!
"July Caribbean Break- good 3.5* hotel"

A modern, small hotel situated in Hastings on the busy main road from St Lawrence Gap to Bridgetown. A nice waterfront boardwalk is available for southerly walks to/from Accra Beach. Northerly walks can be made along the small beaches. A small modern reception & pleasant staff checked us in. A good size bedroom with wonderful sea views, all hotel rooms face the sea. Large TV, I pod/phone/ pad docking system & DVD player, modern interior furniture. Wi-fi intermittent. Basic supplies of tea/coffee and toiletries provided. Bedrooms cleaned daily. Wonderful comfortable beds, nice bed lined and a small balcony with table & chairs. Noise from road can be heard owing to horns regularly tooted by taxis/buses, light sleepers ....take ear plugs! I would recommend floors 3 or 4 for better views or floors 1 or 2 for those who have difficulty climbing steps. A small kidney shaped swimming pool with very comfortable modern sun beds and plenty of tables/chairs. All inclusive bar offers local spirits only, would have liked the option to purchase imported spirits or superior wines (particularly at the dining tables) but no option was offered by staff, unsure if this is available? Nice restaurant with several tables outside, majority indoor. Very good standard of cuisine and portions ample. Fish dishes limited to turpin and swordfish during our stay. Breakfast good with table service, limited coffee choices. Neil who served at the bar was very friendly and charming. I would rate the hotel as a good 3* hotel. It is nice and modern but lacks the facilities you would expect to qualify the hotel for a higher 4*grading or above.
"Perfect hotel with one of a kind staff!"

We just returned from a glorious vacation in Barbados and the SoCo hotel was a huge part of the experience. From the moment you arrive you are greeted with warmth, friendly service, and complete hospitality. My friend's bag got lost on the way in and the staff went out of their way to help us work with the airline and get it to the hotel, they were more concerned about the bag than us! The staff goes out of their way to accommodate you, offering you anything you made need from tour bookings to restaurant suggestions. We had to get up early one morning for a tour ebfore breakfast and Andrew was kind enough to bring us a quick breakfast the night before we could eat on the go the next morning. It is the little things this staff will do for you that makes it like no other. From Melanie, Michelle, Shanna, Neil, Dexter, Michael, and anyone else I am missing, they are all fantastic! It is rare to get to know staff on a first name basis and get hugs when you leave, the SoCo truly has best hotel service. We were on the 4th floor, a perfect view of the ocean. There is really not a bad view in this hotel since it only has 24 rooms and is beachfront. The room is just as described, clean, sleek, and comfortable. The location is great as it is right on the Hasting boardwalk with easy, walking access to shops and restaurants. The pool was also great but we spent most of our time laying on the beach. The food never disappointed us, Chef Andrew was accommodating and creative with the menu choices. For an all inclusive hotel it was delicious and a la carte was a plus. We enjoyed the food at the SoCo more than many of the places we dined in the country. The atmosphere is terrific as well, great company, clean hotel, perfect location, and awesome staff, we can't wait to return to the SoCo Hotel soon!
"First Class stay 5*"

I am 36 and I took my mum as a treat to SOCO in June. We travelled upper class with Virgin and SOCO felt like we were still getting the same first class treatment the whole 10 days we were there. The best assets of SOCO are the staff and their (personalities) personal touch to everything. SOCO’s real ‘Jewel of the Caribbean’ is Michelle. If I can give you one bit of advice go to the ‘Orientation’ given by the beautiful Michelle on your first morning (I went twice as it was so entertaining! She will let you know what there is to do and how to get about. If you want to know what to do on Barbado’s speak to the people in the know (the locals). Mr Brown (AKA Ian and a few cooler names) looks after you on the beach/pool and if you want to know ‘what time is the best time to see the Turtles just of the shore (broad walk, or from the hotel!)’ or ‘when is the best time to see beautiful fish (because of the tide)’ just ask. They all have time for anyone even though they work so hard to please. Right the bits you want to know as I did before going: All alcohol is free AI and served pool side 10am till 11pm and you can take it on the beach. In fact you even get the staff looking out for your gear on the beach when you are in the sea, but best to leave most things in the hotel safe or with the security if you want it to be 100% safe. Food is defiantly good enough for me but there are lots of Restaurants if you want to go a bit more up market. We didn’t really eat out allot, in fact the only time I can remember eating with was Oisin’s ‘Friday Night Fish Fry. And an amazing meal with Richard the cab driver that took us around Barbados and showed us the real Barbados (recommended by Michelle). Don’t know why I am waffling on just book and go you won’t be disappointed. I had booked to stay at Almond Beach and another hotel but really glad I changed my booking to SOCO. I was recommended to stay at the hotel by someone that stayed there a few weeks earlier! I always feel the best compliment you can give is a Recommendation and this is a 10/10 hotel. I usually stay in larger resorts with all the water sports and buffets (Bermuda, Cuba, Maldives to name a few) but it is defiantly worth booking a little boutique hotel like this with all 24 rooms facing the beach. You won’t be disappointed by the island or hotel. Another tip is get up early and walk down the beaches to the right about 2k you have Bridge town. I got up the first few days at 5am (10am UK) and you get to see all the locals exercising on the beach and the race horses swimming in the sea. Also did the same the other way past St. Laurence Gap and Oistins but that is further (maybe 5K) Roy & Chris

Had an amazing week at the SoCo. From the second we arrived and were met by Andrew who took our bags and gave us a welcome cocktail it was fantastic. It was wonderful to wake up every morning and look out at the sea. The walks along the boardwalk every morning set us up for breakfast. Food was lovely and never had to wait long to be served. Each member of staff could not do enough for us from when we arrived until we left. They always had a smile for us and never forgot our names which really made us feel at home. Dexter, Michelle (thanks for the aloe vera), Mr.Brown, Kenrick, Michael, Ms.C our cleaner and Erleen who makes the BEST mojitos I ever had. All the staff were wonderful and friendly and we even got a bit upset when we were leaving. 10/10 for this hotel. Staying at the SoCo has made us want to visit Barbados again and have started planning our return. See you all again soon.

Came back last friday after spending two weeks at the Soco. Great situation, views and rooms. The thing that made the hotel extra special was the incredible hard working happy staff, who go above and beyond to make your holiday perfect. Big thanks to Michelle, Shannon, Vicky, Arlene Neal, Andrew, Dexter to name a few sorry if i missed someone you were all amazing. Must also mention the chambermaid who always wore a smile and kept our room immaculate. The only improvement i would suggest is to give the hardworking staff a fan or better cover whilst tending the bar!!!! Hope to see you all again soon.
"A slice of paradise"

My husband and I spent a week at the SoCo Hotel and it was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed the beautiful view from our room each morning when we opened the blinds and taking walks on the board walk just steps away. The hotel is modern with simple decorations. The entire hotel was kept clean and maintained extremely well by the pool and outdoor seating. The only downside to this hotel is the repetitive menu and while the food was good it wasn't not amazing. However this was made up for with the top notch service and friendly faces of the staff. We highly recommend this hotel as we came back very relaxed and full of rum!
"Intimate Seaside Hotel"
06/22/14 Lilly0508 FLORIDA
We spent everyday of our vacation on the lounge chairs soaking up the sun, cooling off in the ocean and just relaxing. What else would you do on a Caribbean vacation? Pros: Hotel: is an all inclusive boutique style hotel that's very intimate, trendy and modern. There are not many hotels in Barbados that offers an all inclusive package but this hotel is working on getting it right. The dining experience is what makes it different because all meals are served a la carte. Beach: is literally a few steps away. The beach is pristine! The coastline can be admired along the boardwalk that starts right in-front of the hotel. Staff: great team especially the following - Neil, Victoria, Melanie, Michelle, Shannon, Andrew, Benita, Erlene and of course Kenrick! Cons: We did express our opinion to Dexter (assistant manager) on things we encountered during our stay such as no fresh mint leaves for mojitos (during our 7 day stay), inconsistent supply of Banks beer, no Mount Gay served at the bar, the cleanliness of the bathrooms, stained blankets, menu variety, mis-communication between the staff that resulted in a ruined birthday surprise and NO wifi in the guest rooms. As I said these things were very minor and in no way impacted our stay. Would we stay here again? Absolutely! Highly recommended!!! Please feel free to send a message if you have any questions.
