Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap and OK for bus station"

This hotel is really backpacker quality. The room was 8 feet square and extremely hot on arrival. Once the cases were put down there was no where to go! However, It was clean and the aircon worked. Reception seemed very nonchalant and disinterested in the guests. Tea and coffee were available and breakfast (in the foyer) was reasonable with cereal and toast. Cheap and OK for one night.

This hotel is quite small but if you find a cheap hotel, good location and friendly staff - this is definitely your considerable one. The reception staff is very helpful and friendly :). This hotel is located in Ekamai, very near the BTS and bus station as well. The only negative point is small room
"no frills accommodation in a good location"
01/01/14 missindy Paphos, Cyprus
I stayed alone in a standard room and the space was just adequate. I actually went back down to reception to check if I had been allocated an economy room by mistake but no, the room was the largest available. OK for one person but 2 might struggle. I arrived very early and for a small charge my room was made available to me. Definitely "no frills" decor, but quite acceptable. I had no issues with noise. As previous reviewers have commented the room did smell, but not from the bathroom. There was a musty smell every time I entered, but it soon disappeared on opening the window. The room and the bathroom were clean as was the bedding and towels. The location is excellent - close to the skytrain with enough local eateries. There is a "beer garden" on the corner with good thai food and live music.

After reading positive reviews on booking sites that averaged a score of 7/10, we chose this place as it was near to Ekkamai station, only 30 minutes drive from the airport and the rooms looked decent for the price. After walking in the door, the vibes given off by the two on the front desk made us look at each other and say, "This isn't a brothel, is it?" After asking the two people at reception, "Do you have a double room?" Our passports were demanded and photocopied and we were ignored while the guy looked at the computer and after a few minutes said, "I can't find your booking!" I explained we didn't have a booking, we were walk-in customers and he tutted and announced they had one room. At this point, I was beginning to get a really bad vibe: the guy (purple nail and toe varnish, hair in a top knot) was being aggressive to the woman - yes she seemed barely competent - but it wasn't pleasant to watch. Another guest then appeared and announced his electricity kept turning off every five minutes. We were shown a room and told it was 900 baht. He pointed out some damp on the ceiling and said not to worry about it. Jokingly, I said, "Perhaps we can have the room for 800 then!" He just said, "No, 900!" The room was fine for us so we agreed to take it and went downstairs to reception. We were then completely ignored - my partner was saying, "I don't like him at all" - he then made a phone call whilst we were standing there thinking, "Well, we've already filled in the form...are you going to give us the key or are we just going to have to stand here and where are our passports you copied?" Finally, he gets off the phone and says, "1000 baht". I pointed out the business cards in the lobby that said "walk-in 900 baht" and that he had told us it was 900 and he was saying, "No, 1000 baht". At this point, the final night of our great 10 days in Thailand and about my 12th or so trip to the country, my weird vibe metre was on 10/10 (OK, I had just spent 5 hours on a bus so was slower than usual and was not relishing the prospect of searching for another hotel). We asked for our passports back and the photocopies they'd made. We got the passports and then the incompetent woman couldn't locate the copy so we started uncovering papers on the desk until we found it ourselves! I got the impression that the owner was away and had left some friend in charge but even so, it seemed the owner was the one who was telephoned and decided to try it on and get 1000 instead of 900. An hour later (hotels were full or too expensive), we checked into Sawadee Sukhumvit and had pleasant service, a clean big room and a nice breakfast for 1200.

I use to always stay in the backpacker area because it was more budget. However, I discovered this little gem in Ekkamai and I'm not looking back. I think for the price of the room, it is great value and in a really good location. It is just close enough to the BTS (3 min walk) but just far enough that you can't hear the trains at night. The room and hotel was really clean and they have an elevator which is nice. The economy rooms are big enough for one person but too squishy if you try to squeeze a couple in there. The standard rooms or the next level up is really spacious. There is a lot of light which is nice and the bathrooms had hot water. The breakfast is pretty simple but there's so much great food in Bangkok, I don't mind eating out again after. There is also a great little street food restaurant place on the corner of the Soi and the BTS station which has really authentic tasting Thai food. Their tom yum was the best. There is also a cinema within 5 min walk and a Big C so it's convenient for a late night movie.
"It is ok at a pinch for the price"

For the price the hotel is just ok. It is in an excellent location close to the BTS as has been mentioned. the basic breakfast is fine also and a nice offering. The downside is that the rooms are extremely small, and there is no cupboard for clothes,, just a hanging metal bar over the bench. The a/c works well and in fact is too cold at night. The putrid smell coming from the bathroom was enough to make you nauseous. Was never able to track down where the smell originated. It was noisy on my floor with people coming and going all hours of the night. I am not a light sleeper, but I was woken on many occasions. I think this was more a reflection of the lack of soundproofing than anything else. I would spend a few hundred more bhat and look elsewhere.

Good wifi connection, and free simple breakfast in the morning, just coffee, tea and bread, you may make your own toast. "Location, location, location!"

I have now stayed at this hotel for the past three weekends and will continue staying here each time I go. It is clean, new, offers free breakfast (toast, fruit and coffee), it is 5 minutes from the Ekkamai BTS and it is affordable. Home run in BKK. I will say my first weekend there my room did have sewage issues (room 503 I think?) but each room since has smelt nice and fresh! Big bonus...the beds and comforter are super comfy.
"Who gave such good reviews?!"
Having stayed in hostels across Asia I found this place to be incredibly lacking. The rooms are very basic and although cleaned everyday there is a huge plumbing problem which makes the bathrooms stink of sewage. There are also building works that start at 8am... Noisy drilling! It has also deceptive in terms of room size and type!
