"Very odd hotel"
It was a great room and a good location. But the guy working there is only at the reception from 9 AM till 2 PM. I would have had no idea what to do if we got their after 2:00, I don't know how we would have checked into the hotel. When we checked out at 6 AM I just left the key in front of the door to the office because nobody was working. Really weird. […] Wouldn't stay there again just because of that. "Du får hva du betaler for"
The room was clean, didn't give us the feeling of it though.... We had a feeling of being in an old movie from the 70's east Berlin. Nice hight on the roof, an upgraded ok bathroom, the room was very hot, but a window to open so it worked out well for us. We got a free parking in the street from the owner, thank you very much. Breakfast was extra, so […] we decided to eat out. Plenty of places to choos from that is close by. Location is great with short walking to a lot of things...

"Value for money"
11/04/13 Aleksandra_Anna Warsaw, Poland
Obviously, it's not a RItz Carlton. It's a budget hotel, which offers a good value for the money you pay. It's within an easy walking distance from 2 metro stations, at a quiet street. Our room was not too big and quite dated, but clean and cozy. Beds could have been more comfortable, but again not too bad. Wifi worked well. The windows were quite old and let some cold in, but overall the temperature in the room was all right (beginning of November). The owners (a Ukrainian couple) are very friendly and helpful. They speak German, Russian (or Ukrainian, I cannot tell), some Polish and English. Breakfast normally starts at 8:30, but we asked for it to be earlier and they prepared it for us at 8 with no complaints. Breakfast is not included, it's 6 EUR, but it's certainly worth the price. Particularly if you're from Eastern Europe you'll find it delicious, home-like, and with a really good choice of food. If you're from the UK or US, though, and you cannot imagine your morning without fried eggs, sausages and bacon, you should better go elsewhere. It's just a different style. Child bed is for free, and we could keep our child wagon at the reception, which was very convenient. Parking is for free (you get a vignette) in the street, although you need to find your own place, the hotel owns none. We were lucky and parked right at the door. The downside is that the reception is closed during the night, so make sure you call or write them upfront, if you plan to arrive after 20. When you're already a guest, it's not a problem, as you get the key to the front door. Overall, I liked the place, it had a good atmosphere.

Great friendly family run hotel - arrived about 9pm and the owner was waiting for us (we had emailed her to let her know when we would arrive) room spacious with good WIFI signal and cleaned every day if you want. Fab location - no complaints whatsoever

We stayed here for two nights and we sure made the right decision! The staff was very friendly and in the reception they spoke english. The wifi worked well in our room. The breakfast was great, but it didn´t include in the hotel price which is inconvenient. We arrived late in the evening, when it was already dark and got lost in the area. But luckily, there were some friendly people who helped us. The hotel "sign" is not so big and it may be hard to find. Don´t judge the hotel based on the entrance, once you get inside it´s very different than what you would think. The room had a good bathroom and it was spacious. This hotel has a good value.

We stayed here one night and really enjoyed the spacious double room overlooking the street. The value of this hotel is great, and the friendly service made it a really nice stay. The owner helped us find places to go in Berlin and the breakfast was very nice. A great value.

There is something about staying in a family run hotel, that if done well, is a more satisfactory experience than spending a great deal of money on an 'international' hotel. Novalis was such a place...Be warned it looks down at heel from outside, but bearing in mind all the positive Trip advisor reports we had read before hand, we didn't let its exterior deter us. We had a family room, with plenty of room, exceptionally clean, colourfully decorated. It was such fun to have flowery duvet coves and coloured towels instead of bland whites or neutrals. I am not a lace curtain or shiny bed covering person at home, but on a break in a foreign city it just added to the atmosphere. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or kind. We were even given a totally free car parking pass...this saved us 30Euros in total. The breakfast was only 6 euros each and was an abundant array of fruit, cereal, bread, cold meats and cheeses and excellent coffee. Bacon and hot sausage was provided for those who wanted it..91 Euros per night including breakfast...We will be back and would happily stay here for longer.
"Small room but good enough for price"
01/31/13 Ella W Rye, England, United Kingdom
My partner and I spent 118 Euros for two nights at this hotel. The room was quite small but it was clean and good enough for our short stay. Location is quite good, and isn't far from Metro if you wanted to get around quicker. Breakfast wasn't included which was a shame as there aren't many restaurants or coffee shops near by.

I will recommend this to my colleagues -- after you find the hotel (maybe itr will be nice to have specific directions to get there), speacially in winter time. Otherwise the room was very nice, as well as breakfast. Thank you!.
"Great for the Budget Travellers"

My boyfriend booked this hotel for a trip to Berlin. The hotel emailed him to see what time we would be arriving as they don't have 24 hour check in- to guarantee someone was there for our arrival. Location: It cost us approximately 3 euros (ABC ticket) to get from the airport by train and underground to a stop just near to the hotel and about a 5 minute walk down a side street away from the main traffic. There were several choices of near by stations u- Oranienburger Tor/s-Berlin Nordbahnhof, you could even walk from Friedrichstraße if you wanted to. There were lots of cafes, restaurants and bars within a short walk and 3 small shops to buy drink & snacks. It was also very close to the Natural History Museum, Berlin Wall Memorial and most of the other main sights were within walking distance, the TV tower, the Bundestag, holocaust memorial, Berlin wall & Tiergarten (make sure you have comfy shoes!!!)) The Room:On arrival we were greeted by our host, he spoke a little English, and his partner spoke a little Russian and German and they were both very helpful with any questions we had and friendly. The room was situated on the second floor of an apartment building. It was very clean (cleaned everyday). The room was long and thin with an en-suite shower/toilet room. The showers were powerful and hot which was great! There was a small table, two chairs, fridge, basic hairdryer, TV (no English channels) and free WiFi. There were maps and leaflets in the lobbies. The rooms aren't luxury but great for what you pay and were a little hot at night, you could open the window but it was a little noisy - so not sure how they would be at the height of summer and no safe. Food: Breakfast was optional for 6 Euros, this had a selection of cold meats, pates, cheeses, cereal, fruit, coffee, teas, chocolate milk, breads, a toaster, salads, fruit juices and more! (much better than other continental breakfasts).

Staff was pleasant, corteous and helpful. The deal was good, room well appointed and location near the U and S Bahn. We payed 6 euros for breakfast, a very good price for an exelent service. The lack of air conditioning may be a problem at the summer or hot days. There`s not a elevator[one floor upstair],and also there is not a safe or phone room .
"Great for the price"

We stayed here for one night. I did read some reviews before booking this hotel and I saw that some people had trouble checking in when they arrived late. The hotel actually emailed me asking me what time I would be getting in. I think that was responsible and considerate because they don't have 24hr service so I suspect they wanted to make sure we were okay. We were greeted by the front desk once we arrived. She was very friendly. She gave us a map and showed us where all the sights and good restaurants are. She walked us to our room. There is NO elevator. You will get 3 keys. One for the very front door which I think probably closes around 7 or 8pm? We got back at 10:30pm that night and everything was locked up already. We stayed on the 1st floor and there is a door you need to unlock before you get to a corridor of rooms which will require your third key. Everything is very basic. You do get a hair dryer and a fridge but there isn't anything else. You also get FREE wifi which is great because it's really rare in Europe. The room has really high ceilings, we got two beds that made up a queen size bed. The room is a decent size and you get a big window. If you're just looking for a clean place to stay, this may be for you. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the TV tower which was the meeting place for our tour group. The isn't air conditioning so be prepared to have to open your window to sleep at night which is a little noisy with cars and people talking.
