"Literally could not be a better hostel"
I've traveled around the world and always stayed in hustles and this was by far the best I've ever stayed in. Right downtown, overlooking the Iron Elevator, and less than 30 seconds walk from the Baixa-Chiado metro. Extremely clean, very safe, great service from everyone who works there, free and fast internet plus two computers in the lounge, minutes […] walk from dozens of restaurants and three main squares, comfortable beds (with curtains for privacy!), hot water, vending machine, free walking tour, cool light-up neon showers, tons of toilets/sinks/mirrors, lockers in the rooms... Did I mention my bed in a room of 4 was just €20 euros per night?!? Don't even think about staying anywhere else. Extremely pleased! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very modern, comfortable, & central place to stay!"
My review title says it all. It is conveniently located on Rua Aurea, just steps away from the 'iron elevator'. Feels very modern & well-maintained. Great for short or long stays.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location, good value, basic breakfast included. Very comfortable beds with curtains, power sockets and lights for privacy. Stayed in 4 person dorm for 2 nights.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hostel is located in the centre of all the activity. It's near to both Rossio and Baixa Chiado stations so it's wonderful for getting around. Everyone at the hostel was really friendly and helpful and it was quite clean. It was my first time at a hostel and i was amazed at the privacy in the rooms. It was a great stay for a couple nights.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
good location, large& comfortable bed, smile service and of course, quite delicious dinner. recommended at allGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel was clean and comfortable. Wifi was EXCELLENT. Good location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the best thing is 'location'. In my case, i stayed at 10 dorm. and the room was little bit narrow. but the bed was good. very comfortable. At every floor there are 3~4 shower booths, 2 toilets (female and male respectively). and i didn't have to wait for it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The location was great. Good place if you are trying to keep a low budget. The staff was friendly (-1 staffmember)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Expedia guest review
"toch vooral een hostal"
Er zijn kamers voor 2 personen, maar er hangt de sfeer van een hostel, wat mij betreft ietGenuine Expedia guest review
ホステルの位置が分かりやすく、メトロにも近くてとても便利でした。 部屋も清潔で、なんの不満もありません。Genuine Expedia guest review
Absolut tolles Hostel. Spitzenklasse. Betten mit Vorhang, heißt man hatte Privatsphäre. Super hilfsbereites Team. Sauber in allen Räumen (Schlafsaal, Flure, Esssaal, Bäder).
Genuine Expedia guest review

The nicest place I have booked so far! Great location, clean and nicely organized rooms, and fresh breakfast every morning with the elevator view. The staff was most helpful with directions and recomendations for short trips
"Best hostel I've ever stayed in!"

This hostel states that it has the comforts of a hotel at hostel prices and this couldn't be more true! What you pay compared to what you get is amazing! It's so cheap and such good value for money. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and they do the most amazing job over breakfast (which is free by the way!). They also give good tips and advice if you want to know where to go and how to get there. The look of the hostel is cool, it's clean and welcoming. The best part is the thought put into the rooms. Each bunk has a curtain which stretches all the way across so that you can have privacy even in a 10 bed shared room which is great for changing or if you wanted to just relax in your own space. It's also good for sleeping because it blocks out light and makes you feel like you're in your own little world. Also around your bed you have your own private light, basket and clothing hooks which really come in handy. Lastly, the location couldn't be better! A few minutes walk from very well connected metro, tram and train stations. Loads of restaurants, shops, cafes surround it and it's not even a ten minute walk to Bairro Alto the main bar area. This is honestly the best hostel I've ever stayed in and I would go back in a heartbeat!

Stayed in Golden Tram 242 for a couple of nights while attending Optimus Alive Music Festival. The design of the hostel is amazing. it has both retro and modern elements- the old elevator, for example was just awesome and gave a special feeling. it is located in Chiado, like the downtown of Lisbon, and just across the street you have the Santa Justa Elevator, one of the famous attractions. The location was incredible, and you could reach anywhere by walking. That's why for us, it was the perfect mixture of Sightseeing by day and partying by night. The rooms were comfortable, the showers were nice (although they had this kind of annoying bug that causes the lights to switch off automatically every minute, making you open and close the shower door to turn them on again). The place had a really cute little bar with reasonable prices and good atmosphere (avoid the home-made drink though, it's terrible) and except for one staff they everyone were always happy to help. For this price, this is the best you could possibly get. I am absolutely sure I'll come back to Golden Tram 242 and I recommend you to stay there too
"One of the best hostels I've stayed in in Europe!"

My friends and I stayed here for 4 nights before Nos Alive festival and we really loved the hostel. The location is incredible, 5 minutes walk from some wonderful restaurants and the riverfront (incredible views), and only 8-10 minutes walk from Bairro Alto and all the bars. The atmosphere in Lisbon is incredible, and this hostel really captures that atmosphere. The attention to detail is impeccable; the little golden tram icons everywhere! The beds are so comfortable - the duvets were luxurious! I also loved that each bed had its own curtain which blocked out all the light, and made it very private. The staff were amazing - particular love goes to Mama and her husband and the new bar girl (sorry we can't remember your name - you used to live in Huddersfield (UK) and you made the best Caipihrina cocktails and jugs of sangria!) Mama is hilarious and everyone should try her special homemade liqueur. Breakfast is delicious and worth getting up for! The Wifi is free and theres a strong connection throughout the hostel. We loved the old fashioned original lift. I also think the whole design of the hostel was really cool. Reccomendation: A pattisserie on the same road as the hostel (come out of the hostel and turn right and its a few shops up) sells some of the best pastries we ate in Lisbon - and so cheap too! The only negatives: the rooms were quite small. I would also say if you are a sleepwalker (like me!) make sure you try and get a bottom bunk. The bunk beds do not have safety rails and I fell out one night (around 6/7ft). The staff were very quick to move me the next morning though when I asked - even though the room was full they went out of their way to sort things out for me :) Overall we really loved this hostel - I've been to some amazing hostels (particularly in Poland) and I never thought I'd find any as good as those, but this is really up there! Thank you to all the staff - we loved this place!

Couldn't really ask for more. Stayed in a ten bed female dorm for 2 nights, each bed is sturdy, has it's own light, plug socket, basket and curtain. Breakfast is included. The staff are really helpful and great at making you feel at home! Brilliant for my short stay in Lisbon. Would stay there again if I ever go back

The staff was very friendly and the rooms where quite fine, especially beds. Poor installations regarding showers and WC. Good breakfast. The best was the location, it is in the very middle of the city. Well connected too.

I stayed here 3 nights, the hostel is located right downtown and you can walk to main touristic areas like the Praça do Comércio or the Castle of São Jorge. I don't normally stay in hostels because there's no privacy and there's usually young travellers who will not let you sleep because they're being noisy or just don't care about the rest of the people in the hostel, the courtain in every bed gives some privacy and I really appreciated that. The beds are comfy, the breakfast was good and the staff nice. The showers are clean, and the hostel looks very cool. My only problem was that on my last night there was a large group of English youngsters staying next to my dorm screaming, making a lot of noise and being very loud until around 4am so I couldn't sleep. I think there should be a noise time limit, after all we're all paying money to have a place to sleep, even if it's a shared one, I think we have the right to sleep and other people should respect that. Other than that I had a good time in this hostel and I would recommend it.
"Best Hostel Sleep Ever - COMFY BEDS!"
06/19/14 FiNichol Fribourg, Switzerland
This hostel was amazing value for money. Easy to find, great location. And it looks just like the photos...only it is even more comfortable. The curtains effectively block out light so you can sleep like a log. The beds (and pillow) are better than some 5-star hotels, spacious and with nice soft duvets. The only issue on the second floor was that the smoke from smokers standing outside the hostel door would permeate the room during the night. Additionally, whilst the bathrooms (and showers) were clean and great, the toilet paper would always run out during the middle of the night (I stayed for 4 nights and this was the case every night). The breakfast was great, fresh and tasty, and the staff very helpful. Would definitely stay here again if I was in Lisbon again!

An excellent place to stay. Innovative with curtains for each bed that make you keep your privacy. Good food. Placed in the heart of the city with wonderful hosts! You`ve got to experience it by yourself.

The nice lady at the reception was really nice and helpful. I really needed urgent help with tickets and she sorted it out for me. I cannot thank her enough! The hotel is well located, close to all the major attractions and transportation.( which you probably won't even need because everything is accessible on foot).
