"Convenient to town, good price, ocean view"
This is an old hotel (you can hear sounds in adjacent rooms, the floor creaks) but it's well-kept up based on our room. Clean & equipped with kitchen appliances so you can bring food and make your own meals if you want. Bed is comfortable. We stayed on the second floor so we didn't get overhead noise. The view is across the main road and a small shoreside […] park across Cow Bay. It was entirely satisfactory for our night's stay on business here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Much needed downtime for us!"
It was a wonderful experience for my husband and I to stay here for a week. Unfortunately there was construction nearby and was very noisy all day!! The other issue for me is the cleanliness; housekeeping needs to see the scum around bathtub fawcets and slime on the tub itself. Cleanliness is the most important part a motel experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Wessex Inn By The Sea Thank you for your staying with us and sorry for the inconveniences. The next door construction is almost finishing, asphalt pavement is done, so it will not be noisy any more. We will do more caution for the cleanliness of the bathtub. If you visit next time, nicer room will welcome you. Thank you.
Excellent location good bang for the buck recomendedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"No Sleeping Late"
The property next door is under construction so they start banging nails at 8am. You will not be sleeping late. Other than that okay walking distance to everything.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average at best"
Was dingy fairly dirty. We cut out stay short! Wouldn't stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice motel with the ocean right across the street. Only complaint was noise from construction next door and dome traffic noise. Very clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Location; great views"
Nice place to stop on our way home from Victoria to Qualicum Beach to visit with friends the next day. Hotel is in a nice location in Cowichan Bay and had a great view of the Bay itself. Short walk to the center of it all...nice restaurants, coffee shops etc.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great water view"
Loved the water view. Room itself was serviceable, although out of date.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful location - basic motel"
The location is beautiful right on the waterfront across from a park. The motel is very basic, clean and has everything you would need but is in need of modern updating. Our room had lots of space including two queen beds and a full kitchen but everything was older and was in serious need of updating. Also the bathroom was quite small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute little place"
Everything was great other than the few pieces of garbage that were left in the room from the previous guests.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A good price, very comfortable beds and clean"
Even thought there is construction next door, we stayed during the long weekend and it was quiet. Once the construction of this apartment building is finished it will drasticly change the views of some of the units. Make sure you ask for "front facing ocean" rooms. We stayed in the corner room upstairs #41, very pleasant room with views from two di […] rections. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Tired, very tired."
Very expensive for what you are getting. Our two night stay was comfortable and the place is clean but it is old. This area has very few decent hotel/motels.Genuine Expedia guest review
"great room, great view"

"Would love to come back"

Nice place for a weekend getaway for a couple. Kind staff, Neat, cozy room, furniture's little aged, but clean. reasonable price. love the spot on the beach. must have taken 100 pictures during my stay. I would love to come back there.
My husband and I and our 5 month old baby stayed here for a weekend as it was the place chosen by the bride and groom. Seeing as the bride and groom chose it, we thought it must be a good place. Boy were we wrong. The woman at the front desk was beyond incompetent as she not only charged us the wrong amount for our room, but gave us the wrong room as well. We booked a kitchenet and when we got to our room we realized that it was not what we had booked. When my husband went to talk to the woman to try and get the room we should've had, she proceeded to come up with all kinds of excuses as to why we couldn't switch and how it wasn't her fault even though we had the confirmation email showing her what we had paid for. What made us even more angry was the fact that our friends who booked the hotel months after us and some even a few days before the wedding got a kitchenet when they didn't even request it! To top this all off, our room was a corner room which was so small and the fridge was on the fritz and our tv was the size of a computer monitor while everyone else had huge flat screens. And being a mother with a baby who stayed in a lot it would've been nice to have had something to watch while the baby was napping. After realizing we weren't going to get the room we requested, we later discovered that we paid the same amount as everyone else who had kitchenets. When we went to check out and get our money back for the room we didn't get, the front desk was locked and no one was available. Overall it was one of the worst places I have stayed in and some of the worst service I have ever received. For someone like myself who booked far in advance because we knew we would need the the kitchen and space for a baby I was livid when we were put in a tiny corner room and told there was nothing that could be done. I would never recommend this place to anyone and I would never go back.

Nice clean motel, easy walking distance to meals and attractions, comfortable beds and good value for the price. Pleasant owners and no problems when we asked, in advance, for a ground floor room and microwave. Everything that we needed for four nights.
"Very basic motel"

We had booked in here, but upon arrival and viewing the room we cancelled our stay and went to 'the other' hotel in Cowichan Bay. This is a very basic motel, it looked clean on the surface, but we didn't stay long enough to check. The room was small, cramped with the amount of furniture. My initial reaction when we arrived was that I didn't want to stay. The construction site shouldn't be a problem for guests, they don't work outside normal working hours. The owner/staff was a little cold upon arrival but helpful and accepted our cancellation no problem. There is very little in Cowichan Bay but if you do visit, I strongly recommend not staying here. The wifi worked well.
"Basic, clean, reasonable price"

Good location, basic clean accommodation, reasonable prices. The owners can't do anything about the construction site next door but we had no noise in the evening. I am sure next summer there will be a no construction. Very pleasant staff. A good simple place to sleep while exploring the area.

This was exactly the place we were looking for. Nice clean and spacey room with beautiful view of bay. Close to restaurants and shops. Friendly and helpful service. We also like that owners were there looking after rooms and guest. We saw and talked to them many time during our 4 days stay. It was lovely to just cross the street to walk the park and beach. There was an access to woods in the back where you can watch birds. Compared to hotels that charged close to $200 in the area, we thought this was great value for the price we paid. We will definitely come back to this hotel again.

Very clean and kind staff. Nightlife was good for me at the sea. I was enjoyed golf near from the hotel. The view to sea was very good in the morning. Especially it was very comfortable for sleeping. I'd like recommend to my friends.
"Should Be Torn Down!"
08/15/14 Shannon D Cochrane, Canada
When we arrived on August 10/2014 we knew we had made a huge mistake but there weren't any rooms available at any other Hotels in Cowichan Bay. We looked at 3 rooms trying to find one that looked liveable. This place should be torn down, the rooms smelled like mould, there was even black mould on the underside of the rubber sink stopper in bathroom. We had to keep the bathroom door closed and the fan running constantly to be able to mask the dank musty smell that permeates these units. The units are very small, which wouldn't be a problem if they were clean and bright, which they are not. The "balcony" was so small we couldn't use it, and faced a construction site. The boxes the beds sit on look like Noah brought them with him on the Ark and the pillows are useless...surprisingly the towels were wonderful. No microwave. This hotel is too far gone to save, it needs to be torn down...period....DO NOT STAY HERE.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had a room on first floor on the side facing the parking lot. The room was extremely outdated & we felt we were in an old cabin. The hotel has no air condition and no screen on the tiny balcony door.....a small view of the ocean can be seen from there... Lots of noise from above floors... Will NOT Return
"Not really appropriate for business travellers..."
07/31/14 megsidey Vancouver Island, Canada
I stayed at the Wessex Inn for a few nights on business. While the motel is located in a beautiful part of Cowichan Bay, I would say that the place is not appropriate for those travelling on business. I stayed in a standard queen room, with an amazing view. However the place is located right on a busy road, so it wasn't very quiet at night or in the morning. Also no air conditioning in the rooms, and so staying in July was brutal. Because of the close proximity of my room to the stairs, I often heard people climbing them all throughout the evening and into the night. There is someone in the office from 9 am - 9 pm, and so if you need to check out earlier than that, you may be out of luck. There is no drop box (that I was able to find) to drop keys earlier than office hours. That meant that I had to return my key after my working day. Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again. But the owners are very nice, and when my plans changed, were willing to be flexible on my reservation, which I appreciated.
