"Beautiful location - basic motel"
The location is beautiful right on the waterfront across from a park. The motel is very basic, clean and has everything you would need but is in need of modern updating. Our room had lots of space including two queen beds and a full kitchen but everything was older and was in serious need of updating. Also the bathroom was quite small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute little place"
Everything was great other than the few pieces of garbage that were left in the room from the previous guests.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A good price, very comfortable beds and clean"
Even thought there is construction next door, we stayed during the long weekend and it was quiet. Once the construction of this apartment building is finished it will drasticly change the views of some of the units. Make sure you ask for "front facing ocean" rooms. We stayed in the corner room upstairs #41, very pleasant room with views from two di […] rections. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Tired, very tired."
Very expensive for what you are getting. Our two night stay was comfortable and the place is clean but it is old. This area has very few decent hotel/motels.Genuine Expedia guest review
"great room, great view"
only planned to stay one night, ended up staying an extra night. Had a corner room upstairs and really liked it. Would definately stay here againGenuine Expedia guest review

This was exactly the place we were looking for. Nice clean and spacey room with beautiful view of bay. Close to restaurants and shops. Friendly and helpful service. We also like that owners were there looking after rooms and guest. We saw and talked to them many time during our 4 days stay. It was lovely to just cross the street to walk the park and beach. There was an access to woods in the back where you can watch birds. Compared to hotels that charged close to $200 in the area, we thought this was great value for the price we paid. We will definitely come back to this hotel again.

Very clean and kind staff. Nightlife was good for me at the sea. I was enjoyed golf near from the hotel. The view to sea was very good in the morning. Especially it was very comfortable for sleeping. I'd like recommend to my friends.
"Should Be Torn Down!"

When we arrived on August 10/2014 we knew we had made a huge mistake but there weren't any rooms available at any other Hotels in Cowichan Bay. We looked at 3 rooms trying to find one that looked liveable. This place should be torn down, the rooms smelled like mould, there was even black mould on the underside of the rubber sink stopper in bathroom. We had to keep the bathroom door closed and the fan running constantly to be able to mask the dank musty smell that permeates these units. The units are very small, which wouldn't be a problem if they were clean and bright, which they are not. The "balcony" was so small we couldn't use it, and faced a construction site. The boxes the beds sit on look like Noah brought them with him on the Ark and the pillows are useless...surprisingly the towels were wonderful. No microwave. This hotel is too far gone to save, it needs to be torn down...period....DO NOT STAY HERE.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had a room on first floor on the side facing the parking lot. The room was extremely outdated & we felt we were in an old cabin. The hotel has no air condition and no screen on the tiny balcony door.....a small view of the ocean can be seen from there... Lots of noise from above floors... Will NOT Return
"Not really appropriate for business travellers..."

I stayed at the Wessex Inn for a few nights on business. While the motel is located in a beautiful part of Cowichan Bay, I would say that the place is not appropriate for those travelling on business. I stayed in a standard queen room, with an amazing view. However the place is located right on a busy road, so it wasn't very quiet at night or in the morning. Also no air conditioning in the rooms, and so staying in July was brutal. Because of the close proximity of my room to the stairs, I often heard people climbing them all throughout the evening and into the night. There is someone in the office from 9 am - 9 pm, and so if you need to check out earlier than that, you may be out of luck. There is no drop box (that I was able to find) to drop keys earlier than office hours. That meant that I had to return my key after my working day. Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again. But the owners are very nice, and when my plans changed, were willing to be flexible on my reservation, which I appreciated.

We booked this room 9 months in advance for a wedding in Cowichan Bay, had my printed email confirmation with me and upon arrival they had no record of our booking and it wasn't just us but at least 5 others as well, probably more. They were fully booked but managed to find us a room which probably was for someone else that hadn't arrived yet. Totally archaic booking system....in pencil just erase what you want! Then there was the room! Didn't notice when the office was still open because we had to go to a wedding but when we came back I noticed dirty walls in the bathroom as well as the outside of the toilet bowl was filthy, long hairs hanging off of the hair drier, garbage under the edge of the bed and the kitchen area was dirty as well. Would never stay there again!
"Not all rooms have Water Views!"

We booked this room for our Anniversary because the website said all rooms have unobstructed views of the bay. That was perhaps true a year ago before the construction of the new Condo next door started. If you are fortunate enough to get one of the rooms in the front on the road the views would be alright. We asked when we checked in if we had a water view and the owner told us " Yes, from the balcony" We entered a dark room and way at the far end was a balcony and a small window. The hotel was built on an angle so all the rooms could have a water view but now all the rooms have a view of a construction sight and it's 20 ft away from your room. During the week the noise levels must be horrible. We thankfully got there as they were closing the gates on Friday afternoon so we weren't to worried about the noise but someone did enter the site during our stay and filled up the trash bin with household garbage which was right below our balcony. We could see the water from our balcony if you stood in a certain spot. Any of the rooms behind ours would probably not have a view at all. The hotel was dated but it was walking distance to all the lovely shops and Restaurants in Cowichan Bay. There is no ice machine either We have driven past the Wessex many times and thought it looked like such a nice little place to stay. We will not stay here again and warn people not to book here during the week. The beach across the street was really nice so we took our bottle of wine over to the Park so we could watch the Sunset.

Cowichan Bay is a lovely, picturesque harbour not far from Duncan. The Wessex Inn is situated on the main road into the bay and set back across from the sea. All the rooms over look the sea; Our room as self-contained - queen size bed with ensuite; kitchen area with fridge, hob and crockery etc. We bought in our own food, so easy to make breakfast and the obligatory cups of tea! Just 2 minutes walk from the quaint shops and restaurants. Less than 10 minutes' drive to Duncan. Great location and really good facilities.
"A nice place to stay in Cowichan Bay"

We were just looking for a quiet nice place to stay, and we found it here. While nothing flash, it was clean, quiet and pleasant. There no eating facilities on site, but as others have stated, many good cafes and restaurants near by. We originally were only going to stay one night, but stayed two. The seaside ambience was lovely. We would stay again.
