"Family run hotel near the Arno River."
We had a lovely time during our week long stay. We checked in after a weekend on the coast so we were a little late in the evening. The owners were not available so we were checked in by the owner's mother whose English was as good as our Italian (which means, almost non-existent.) That said, she was gracious and made us welcome despite our lack of […] Italian. Both owners, Alessio & Asumi, were friendly and happy to help us find our way around Florence. Asumi is originally from Japan (they met as college students in California) so this is a great hotel for Japanese tourists as well as English speakers. The location is just around the block from the Ponte Santa Trinita where we had many great sunsets over the Arno. The hotel is walking distance from most attractions which made it a great home base. High end fashion house Ferragamo is just doors away as are other designers like Dior, which makes window shopping great fun. Delicious gelato is just across the river in the Oltrarno at the south side of the Ponte Alla Carraia. It's worth the walk! We definitely recommend this hotel for the more flexible traveler. "No AC plenty of rules"
Reserved for 3 nights but left after 2. Room was hot @ uncomfortable. 0 amenities but many rules. Opted to leave knowing a refund was unlikely. Would have been more acceptable at lower price point: I.e 2 towels for 3 days for 2 people, expected to leave keys with staff even though they stop work at 8 & without keys you can't get in the building. Lots […] of steps, no elevator & must carry own bags. No hairdryer, no shampoo, no tv, wifi did not work in our room, had to sit in hall to get internet. "Amazing city, amazing location. That's it"
This is my first time to Florence so I only have this hotel as my reference. The location was key with this hotel. Couldn't have been much better. Great location however the hotel itself was not much else. The hallway smelled like stale air. The room had a window that looked at a interior brick wall with bars and didn't open. There is no air condition […] in the room at all. ITS A SHARED BATHROOM. You have to share with 8 other tenets. There is NO parking if you are driving. None. The owners are fantastic. Very nice and helpful. The bed was old and decor was old. Lots of picture frames with no pictures. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful people, safe convenient location"
I am an 18 year old female traveling alone from the U.S. I was quite nervous to stay in a foreign city alone for several nights and safety was very important to me. Not once did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe staying at Hotel Cestelli. It is located very close to the Arno river to it is easy to find your way back to the hotel if you get lost. The surrounding […] area is all high end luxury stores that is extremely well lit at night. The hotel itself was very nice and charming. The owners were always available and very accommodating. They gave me advice on where to go and held my bags for several hours after my check out time. The room was plain but had everything necessary and a window that provided a nice breeze. Over all, Hotel Cestelli made my trip to Florence extremely enjoyable! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect little hotel 10 seconds from Ponte Vecchio"
This hotel was one of the highlights of my 8 week backpacking trip! Location couldn't be better - within 5 minutes walking from everywhere (15 to David) and out the door to Ponte Vecchio. Tons of great shopping, sights and gelato nearby! Hotel was spotlessly clean, beds were comfy, and the price was a steal for being this close to everything. But the […] best part by far of my stay was the lovely couple who own the hotel! So so so friendly and accommodating and spent so much time giving recommendations and making sure I loved Florence as much as they do. Can't speak more highly of them - even when the hotel was full with people coming and going they remembered my name. You just don't find people and service like this anymore. Stay here! Perfect for solo female travelers - extremely safe at all hours. Seriously, stay here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Location can not be more than perfect - right in the heart of everything and about 15 min walk from train and bus station. the owners are lovely couple (italian married with a japanese lady) who gave very good suggestions on local restaurants that aren't crammed with tourists. Shared bathroom but very clean (i think they clean it right after they hear […] anybody using it!) - water is a little small but works fine in summer times I'm sure. "Stay here in Florence"
The owner is incredibly friendly. As soon as you enter, he sits down with you and goes over the map to help you identify what you want to do in Florence and how you can best manage your time/interests. The wifi works great, unlikely many hotels in Italy. The facilities and rooms are clean and nicely decorated. It's right next to the Uffizi, which should […] be on anyone's stay in Florence, a 15 minute walk from the Academie (Michaelangelo's David) and the main train station. Close to everything. "Perfect Visit to Florence"
I was traveling alone to Florence to visit my sister. I picked this hotel because of the positive reviews and because it was a five minute walk from my sister's apartment. The one star didn't really concern me because the price and location were perfect, but I was so very pleasantly surprised to find the hotel exceeding all of my expectations! My room […] (#3) was immaculate, quiet, and just right for my four nights away. If you're looking for a hotel chock-full of amenities, perhaps look elsewhere. You won't have the basket of shampoos, blow dryer, mounted TV, or jacuzzi you'd see in many American hotels, but with a city like Florence right outside your window, you really shouldn't be spending too much time in your room anyhow! Alessio and Asumi were wonderful hosts, greeting me each time I came and left the hotel and helping me figure out the logistics of getting to the airport at the crack of dawn on a Sunday. They even let my sister come check out the room I'd be staying in prior to my arrival. If I ever have the opportunity to return to Florence, this is exactly where I'll stay and I will recommend it to anyone looking for a no-frills, home-away-from-home hotel in the heart of that incredible city. "Felt like home"
A very good location, with very good service. This guest house was like staying with family in their home. The couple who run this spot were very friendly, and helpful with information on Florence and Tuscany, also helping arrange my tours. The only negative was the bed was really soft. However I will stay here again on my next visit.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and lovely staff.... but.."
Expectations were not met, but this was entirely my fault. I was in a rush to book and needed a room quickly. My original booking meant I had no bathroom en suite - but this was changed and for 2 of the 3 nights I was with an en suite. "Handy to train station"
I picked this hotel because it was close to the train station and the reviews said the neighborhood was not scary. This was correct. They seem to be doing lots of renovations and our bathroom was quite large and fairly new and nice. It even had a bathtub! Room smelled like an old ashtray, but not too bad with the window open. Beds were some kind of […] hard foam with a rubber sheet on top! Reception guy was not friendly or particularly helpful, but each time we saw him he seemed to brighten up. Fairly smiley the 3rd time we saw him! Neighborhood is quite noisy and really smelly with urine on the sidewalks, but we found a great restaurant 1 block away with friendly service and the room itself was quiet as it faced a little courtyard. For a start, this hotel is in the centre of Florence. The room is beautiful, quiet, clean and relaxed. The place is run by Riccardo and his Japanese wife. "Super nice hotel in the center of Florence!"
Hotel Cestelli is one of the nicest hotels I have ever visited. It was right in the heart of Florence, close to Ponte Vecchio and all the sightseeing. The hotel provides with free wi-fi and good-sized rooms. All the rooms share a bathroom, but while I stayed there, you never had to wait long in line. My room was facing the street, but I rarely heard […] any noise. At most, it was a loud group of friends who were SO excited to go to dinner. Other than that, it is a very quiet and safe street. And just 5 minutes away you had everything - shopping, sightseeing, groceries store and the river Arno. And just around the corner you had Piazza Santa Trinita with more expensive stores and the Salvatore Ferragamo shoe museum. And if you walk across the bridge Ponte Santa Trinita you have the best gelateria in Florence! The staff - Alessio and Asumi was so sweet and nice. You could talk to them about anything. I used to live in Florence and we propably talked about that for a good 10 minutes! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Average rated performance"

Hi, i stayed there for 2 days, it is a kind of small hotel on second floor of a building.. the rooms are a bit old fashioned and they lack in the amenities which are a must today like drinking water, wifi etc. Also the timings system was a bit odd. We were asked to submit the keys in case we are coming before 8 pm else inform them before keeping the keys. The only plus point was the location as most of the places were at walking distance. So, choose as per ur priority to the parameters, be it comfort in the hotel, proximity to the places or a tradeoff between these two.. :)

Our room was huge and had a very pretty chandelier hanging from the ceiling. After many days of sharing bathrooms in Switzerland, I was happy to get our own private bathroom. The shower area was really small though; I kept feeling the shower curtain on my back while showering. The owners were nice and friendly. They gave us a map and told us where the touristy areas were. The wifi was weak in our room (Room 3). Hotel was on the first floor and we had to carry our luggage up 2 flights of stairs.

The selling point on this hotel is the location. The hotel is maybe 5 minutes walking from the Ufizzi, and 10 minutes max from the Duomo, with easy access to the river as well. The owner was extremely nice and helpful, and the room was nice and the place was very clean and safe. The hotel is a relatively cheap hotel in an expensive city, so dont expect too much in terms of luxuries, as the rooms were very basic. One complaint is that our room only had one electric outlet, so we would recommend bringing a splitter. They also asked us if we wanted a double bed or two singles. We asked for a double bed and we got two singles pushed together with a double sheet holding them together. However, this may be an Italian thing because the night before in Pisa we had the exact same experience with the bed. All in all, for what you are getting (mostly location and cleanliness/safety) I would recommend this hotel.
"What You'd Expect From a One Star"

Hotel Cestelli is a small 8 room hotel in downtown Florence, just a two minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio. Off on a small side street, the hotel is on the second floor of an apartment building. The small lobby is very elegant and inviting and the couple who run the hotel are very nice and inviting. I was in room 2, which doesn't have its own bathroom so I had to walk through the lobby to get to it. This made showering a little awkward but the bathroom is huge and very clean. The shower pressure was not great but besides that there were no complaints in the bathroom. The room was very charming and had a sink in it, which was very nice. The sheets were very clean and the bed was comfortable. In my room, the WIFI worked great, but other guests were standing outside my door to get good service. The only problem I had with Cestelli was that you felt like you had to be extremely quiet at all times. I got back to my room around midnight and felt like I was sneaking around because I didn't want to wake up the owners or anyone else. Overall great experience staying there for a weekend! If you're traveling on a budget, but still want to stay in a centrally located place that is not a hostel, Hotel Cestelli is definitely for you.
"Very pleasant, great location"
10/01/14 thomas c Melbourne, Australia
Great location near Ponte Vecchio ( 5 mins walk) and right next to piazza trinita which is entry point to the street with all the high end labels eg ferragamo, omega etc. It is also only 10 mins to the main train station and if you have carry on luggage, it's an easy walk. the room was large with ensuite ( we had the family suite) and we had a very comfortable Queen bed and 2 singles ( for kids age 15 and 11) Wifi was free but patchy. Breakfast was not included but the price of € 145 euro per night was great and there was a nice restaurant- Moye that served breakfast if you want to sit down. Only issue was the hot water for the shower which was not consistent but it was not a big deal. The bathroom size was ok for Europe. Another tip if you want to eat on the cheap but have a great experience- Central Market first floor, essentially a gourmet food court. It's near San Lorenzo market which sells great leather stuff and souvenirs. The downstairs food market may be closed sometimes but upstairs is open and has free toilets.

We stayed in a double room with ensuite bathroom for 5 nights. The hotel's location could not have been better. It was clean and simple and the hosts were very nice and accommodating. The only negatives were the noise and internet. Since it was warm we slept with the windows open and it was very loud since it is right in the middle of the city. Also the internet did not work in our room so we just went out in the lobby to use it. These issues did not matter much to us and we would absolutely stay at Hotel Cestelli again!

I stayed here for 5 nights and really enjoyed the ease of walking to all major museums and sights in 10 minutes. The hosts were helpful with info on where to eat and travel details . I would fully recommend this hotel for visitors.
"Puzzled by the wonderful reviews"
I did not have a very comfortable stay at Hotel Cestelli. My bedroom (Rm 6 I believe) was a narrow airless dark room that had a bare unused bidet, overlooking an air shaft. I was a bit grossed out by the open bidet, I wish they would cover it at least or remove it. The bed was okay, there was a sink in the room but the toilet and bath were shared. One of the biggest problems for me was the wifi connection, I got no signal in my room and had to use the outside reception area and even then it was very slow. My sister, a friend and I were trying to make plans for our next leg and chatting late one night, around midnight, and the owner came out of his bedroom and shouted impolitely at us that he was trying to sleep. We were not being loud, but we had to chat to plan our next leg. If the internet had reached one of our rooms we would happily moved inside, but that was not an option. The shared bath would have been great but sometimes I had to wait 20 minutes to use it because someone would be taking a shower. There is no separate toilet that you can use while someone is in the shower. The shared bathroom was clean and well maintained. But when I wanted to take use the shower there was no place to put anything because the only stool available had a potpourri arrangement with a sign saying don't touch. Even one of the wooden scent sticks had a tiny sign on it saying please don't touch. Weird. I didn't really interact with the owners (apart from being yelled at), but they were very quick to respond to emails about requesting a room, so I am grateful for that. The million signs saying don't touch this and don't do that bothered me, the dark interior bothered me, I didn't find it charming or welcoming, it was depressing and uncomfortable.
"Who is writing these excellent reviews? "

Although the couple working there is really sweet and nice people, I just couldn't give them above a 2/5. You feel almost as if you are in their own house. There are a million signs everywhere saying "don't touch this", "don't do that", "do this", etc. The rooms haven't been redecorated or redone since 1818, so if you're an old old grandma I guess you'd love them. There is one socket in the room that doesn't even work with most outlet adapters and is on the other side of the room from the bed. No A/C so you have to leave the windows open and get attacked by mosquitos all night. We had some GNARLY bug bites. The WiFi doesn't work very well and in fact another guest sat outside our room at night to get access to WiFi because it didn't work in their room. On the flip side the location is amazing.
"Exceeded Our Expectations"
07/01/14 Pinguini_USA Burbank, California
Hotel Cestelli exceeded all of our expectations. We booked one of the rooms with a shared bathroom down the hall. Originally, I wasn't looking forward to sharing a bathroom. Surprisingly, it was among the nicest bathrooms we used in all of Italy! They keep it spotless and beautifully decorated. The atmosphere is wonderfully calming with candles and fragrant potpourri. The shower is stocked with a nice selection of products in case you don’t have your own. Also, the bathroom is used by one person at a time, so privacy was never an issue. The room was simple, but pleasantly decorated. The in-room sink was convenient so we didn't have to walk to the bathroom for brushing our teeth and other simple hygiene. Just like the rest of the hotel, there is a great sense of calm and peace in the rooms which is relaxing especially after a full day of exploring busy Florence. The building is very centrally located; all the main sights are only a short walk away. When you walk into the reception area, it's so peaceful and fragrant that it almost feels like a monastery. The building is also very secure. On check out day they held our luggage for us while we enjoyed Florence for one last day. Alessio and Asumi, the couple who run the hotel, are also among the nicest people we met in all of Italy. In fact, I would even say that speaking with them was one of the highlights of our trip. They are fluent in English and even lived in the United Sates for a few years. They were incredibly warm and welcoming and they're more than happy to help you with any information you need. They also provided great sightseeing advice. Thanks to them, we discovered some wonderful places in Florence that are off the beaten path that most tourists probably miss out on. They are passionate about helping people discover the beauty behind every aspect of the city. I would not hesitate to stay here again the next time I'm in Florence.
