"Overall nice and basic"
Ok location. Wish I had stayed in a hostel instead but felt safe here. Great bfast and reception staff was helpful. I was traveling solo so this is not the place if you're looking to meet other people. Can walk 5 minutes to catch bus to beach so not super close.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"a hike to the bus"
Hotel personnel were very nice but some rooms were right on the road and very noisy. The manager kindly changed us to a much nicer room with a view. In both rooms, however, the air conditioning did not work well. The grounds are very pretty and the breakfast very good, but it's an uphill hike of 10 min. just to get to the bus stop to go to Manuel Antonio […] beach (which was a 10-15 min. ride away.) All in all, I'd give it a 3.5 rating. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel has nice commodities with the pool and the bar but our room deeply need to be restored. The room was very large to accommodate all the family of five but it looks that it had never been repaired for the last 25 years. Doors not closing, kitchen and batroom in bad condition, windows in the bathroom completely rotten. Is was also very noisy. […] The rooms in the other building might be better because the building looks more recent. Considering the quality of the room, it is definitely not a 3 star hotel, more a one or two star. Vi boede i to forskellige værelser under vores ophold.
"Good service and restaurant, rest not so good"
It depends on what you are after... The hotel is between Quepos and Manueal Antonio so not actually close to anywhere. The road from Quepos to manuel Antonio is dangerous to walk as there are no pavements for pedestrians and has no lights whatsoever so as soon as it gets dark you find yourself stuck at the hotel or depending on taxis. If you have a […] car this is not a problem but I didn't. There are buses but you still need to walk 300m in the dark and any car may hit you, buses stop running around 9.30 pm. The room was pleasant, nice shower, good pressure and hot water but it was facing the main road so impossible to sleep unless you have good earplugs, it was room number 1. Room number 1, 2 and 3 are the same. Your phone in room one will not get the wifi signal unless you have a very good phone. I had 2, one get a weak signal, the other one no. It's fair to mention that the breakfast is really good and all the staff at the hotel really nice and sweet. It's only the location of the hotel if you dont have a car what can ruin your trip Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Traffic in my room"
While my room was only $80 it was not worth the price, something that was also clearly signed at the entrance where rooms were offered for $60! I had one of 2 rooms facing the street and it literally sounded like the trucks, car, busses and bikes drove through my room. The room was warn down and hot water was non existent. Wifi was said to be available […] in the room but as in fact only working in the reception. I would not recommend anyone to stay here, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok budget alt."
Ganska slitet hotell, bra frukost, högt ljud från trafiken utanför, dåligt med gångbanor i området.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great scenic view"
No microwave or frigd in room. Room decor outstanding. Large windows and glass sliding doors for a 270° view and wrap around balconyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Buena, el desayuno es bastante bueno y esta incluido. El estado de la cocina en la habitación es un gran área de oportunidad ya que no tenia muy buen aspecto.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean & comfortable"

I stayed here for 3 nights in February 2014 and overall really enjoyed my stay. The owners were helpful and friendly, the breakfast is absolutely amazing, and the ocean room views and the pool are lovely. I stayed 2 nights in room 6 which was beautiful and quiet, and 1 night in the Treehouse Room which was unfortunately louder as it was by the street. I recommend booking an ocean view room. Those who are complaining about no hot water: I had perfectly hot water, and those guests most likely do not understand how Costa Rican showers work. Overall I was pleased with this hotel for the price.
"Ocean view room lovely"

We stayed at La Colina for 5 days in Feb 2014. We stayed in two rooms: Room 2 at the front of the hotel and Room 6 up higher at the back of the hotel. The hotel is located in the middle of a HUGE hill on the main road that runs from Quepos to Manuel Antonio - this means that every car, truck and motorcycle needs to downshift and this means noise from the street. When we were in Room 2, we were very aware of not only noise from the street, but we could hear everything in the rooms around us (yes, I mean everything, you little sex kittens in Room 1). When we moved to Room 6, it was totally different: spacious, light, beautiful room and much more quiet (although there is a rooster, but it's Costa Rica, what are you gonna do?). We loved the pretty little pool to come home to after a day at the perfectly glorious public beach. The location was good for us since we didn't have a car and the hotel was a 5 minute walk to a public bus stop (although it was a steep 5 minutes). Overall we were happy with our experience and the staff was helpful and kind.
This place stinks. Both literally and figuratively. The rooms smells like a septic tank, the bed sucks, the rooms are SUPER dated, no locks on the windows, crappy lock on the door, small shower, paper thin walls. Spend another few bucks and get something better. You'll be happy you did.
"Not as nice as we expected"

I stayed here for 3 days in January and it wasn't quite what we expected. Here are the issues: 1. The wifi in the room was so slow that it wouldn't even load on my phone only on my friend's laptop. 2. I thought it was strange for a hotel to advertise having hot water until every shower I took was lukewarm. The shower itself was nice and clean but the water was never hot. 3. Ants. I think they got in through a space in the window frame but they came in and found my suitcase and proceeded to live in there. My suitcase wasn't even near the window either. 4. The bathroom sink was about the size of a mixing bowl. I have literally never seen such a small sink in my entire life. 5. They don't advertise that all but 2 of their rooms have some sort of lovely view and the 2 that don't look out over trees that are between the hotel and the main road. We were in one of these rooms. Needless to say the road was very loud. 6. There isn't really an easy and safe way to get to this hotel without a car or taxi. We walked on the side of the main road(literally, there isn't a sidewalk) down a steep hill to get to the hotel and then back up to get back to the bus stop. We discovered the hard way that there weren't any lights on the road at night when we were trying to walk back from the bus after dark. Here are the great things about La Colina: 1. The view is beautiful. 2. The pool is refreshing and lovely. The waterfall feature was just an added bonus. 3. Since it is tucked into the forest there was plenty of wildlife. We saw lizards, hummingbirds, monkeys, insects, and an adorable stray cat all without leaving the hotel. 4. BEST BREAKFAST EVER. In general places in Costa Rica have nice breakfasts but they were especially delicious here and the portions were generous which made for a great start to the day. 5. Air conditioning. The air in the rooms was very nice and it created a relaxing haven after a long, hot day in the rainforest. 6. The food at the restaurant was also delicious. And when we got there our first night after a bus ride from San Jose we appreciated having such good food available at our hotel. Overall, I know I got a deal on the price of the room but there were things that I expected to be standard(like hot water) that we didn't experience. I don't necessarily regret staying there but I wouldn't stay there again or personally recommend it to someone who was planning to travel to Manuel Antonio.
"Will definitely come back soon!"

This is a great place for couples. The parking is safe, the rooms are clean, things like the shower, the TV, or the A/C work as expected. The pool is clean and cozy. The breakfast is amazing! The rooms at the top floor have an amazing view, worth the 87-steps climb. The staff is very friendly, they didn't even charge us extra despite doing a 1-hour late check-out.
"Stayed 14 days and loved it!"

The Owners and all the staff were amazing and ready to help at any moment. Rooms were very clean and the included breakfast was fantastic. Price for meals were very reasonably and tasted delicious. The owners went out of their way for my last dinner, my girlfriend ask for a lobster dinner and the owner went out of his way to get us some fresh lobster and made an amazing dinner. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and I would highly recommend everyone to check this place out, it is fantastic! Very well located, local bus stops every hour to see if anyone needs a ride to town or the beach. Thank you Mike and Natasha for the wonderful stay and the great service. We will see you again on our next trip. Johan and Fe

But the steak house was amazing! Great personal service, big portions for the $ and the best fire grilled steaks we've had anywhere..owners should make a restaurant listing so they can get accolades for being such a great find! Thank you.
"Fantastic place to stay"

We had originally booked a room near the beach in Manuel Antonio, before checking in we looked at the room , the place was awful , stuffy little room with terrible beds and really noisy . So the search began and we stumbled upon La Colina . The place was amazing , friendly staff ,great food and great rooms .We stayed in the top floor , room 10 . A very comfortable place indeed . I would stay there again in a heartbeat .
"Excellent Place to Spend the Weekend"

We spent a weekend at La Colina and were very pleased with the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were nice and very clean! The hotel is set up right in the jungle and you can see animals right outside your room! The pool is fantastic and we definitely recommend trying the restaurant in the hotel, the food was excellent. We were happy with the reasonable prices and enjoyed everything about our stay!

We had the misfortune of staying at this place over the Christmas period and were unable to leave as everywhere else was fully booked. Be warned this hotel does not have Civil Liability Insurance to cover accidents or injuries to guests!!!! They do not take necessary precautions to prevent huge, heavy dead palm tree branches or coconuts from faling down onto pathways were guests walk. My partner was knocked unconcious and suffered serious head wounds on their property. Hè was rushed to hospital with his head in a head brace. Hè was kept in hospital then spent the next days in bed with minimal feeling in his arms. The owner denied responsibility and did absoloutely nothing whatsoever to help . They Saïd that they do not have Liability insurance as it is too expensive and that people get hurt and die in Costa Rica everyday as it is a dangerous country. They told us that it was not allowed to cut trees and coconuts this is NOT TRUE. Most other hotels have Liability insurance AND take all precautions to prevent accidents on their premises. They refused to help cover the high medical costs incurred and in Costa Rica even If you have your own insurance you MUST pay the Bill yourself before leaving the country so Please be adware of this !!!! This place is also situated in a very steep and noisy Hill so constant traffic noise is a huge problem DO NOT take rooms 1 2 3 4 they are right on the road very small and stuffy. Beds are really uncomfortable and they use synthetic fiber bedsheets so you sweat all night. Airco is so noisy no point in using it. There are safe deposito boxes in the rooms but you have to rent them daily. So what May appear to be a cheaper option is not at all there are much better placets to stay . I have travelled lot as most of you probably have and this is by far the worst place I have ever stayed in. I have written this review in the hope that the owners of this place developer Some human kindness, take responsibility and provide a place were paying guests feel safe and are appreciated and respected.
