The staff was great at this hotel and the location was wonderful. There was a good selection at breakfast with a beautiful breakfast room overlooking the canal. The décor in the foyer and sitting room was lovely with a lot of art and antiques, but the rooms were outdated with old furniture and lumpy beds. This hotel has economical family rooms, so was […] good for family travel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fantastic location, just OK rooms"
Great location at the south end of the Jordan for strolling through beautiful and low-key neighborhoods such as the Jordan or the trendy 9 Streets, just steps away. There you can find nice restaurants, cool cafes, a great cheese shop and bakeries, and unique boutique shopping. Also handy for the Anne Frank House (reserve online to avoid queues!) and […] reasonably close to the major museums. The city bus to Schipol Airport is also very close, which the helpful receptionist recommended. Other pros include a decent breakfast included in the rate and complimentary espresso and tea served in the lounge. We were less excited about the rooms, which are basic, a bit small and not furnished very comfortably. There were some chintzy touches like shower gel in a packet (like ketchup), but overall for the price the location seemed to be a worthwhile tradeoff for fewer comforts. Be advised that the steps are very steep, particularly from the 2nd to 3rd floor (that’s 1st to 2nd in typical European parlance). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Charming place to stay. Don't expect a modern hotel. There is no elevator and if your room is on the 4th floor you will have to drag your large suitcases up long steep stairs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"We loved it!"
A lovely hotel, great friendly staff, we got free got drinks whilst there, the room was great and so was the free breakfast! Definitely staying there again if we can! On the same street as Anne frank house and westerkerk and only a five or ten minute walk from most restaurants and dam square! 4/5 from us!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best location in Amsterdam"
This is not the most sophisticated hotel it is in fact quite quirky. Two friends travelling to amsterdam for 5 days found it the perfect spot, great value for money and if you can get over the decor and collections a perfect base for the city. The staff were friendly and helpful and the stairs good for the muscles. Best view I ever had from a hotel […] room although a little noisy late at night with open window. "Friendly hotel that made you feel at home"
On arrival, we were greater by the owners' dog and very friendly and approachable staff. We were given directions to the room, which was on the third floor. Boy, are Amsterdam steps steep! Not a problem though and it made the hotel seem more like a home. The complimentary sweets by the hotel desk are also a plus. The room itself was fine. It was a […] family room with four beds. Sadly no view of the canal but the plus side was that it was very quiet. The breakfast is a simple continental style breakfast. It was more than enough for us. And you get a great view of the canal from the breakfast room. There is also complimentary tea, coffee and hot choc. No beer/ alcoholic drinks. Very nice after a long day around town. We left our luggage at the hotel and came back to collect before leaving to come home. A very helpful service. Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Our family of 4 recently stayed here and were amazed at the prime location of the property. With easy access to transport, food, trendy shops and bars this is the place to stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely hotel in great location"
We stayed 2 nights (not long enough) and walked for miles around Amsterdam taking in the main tourist spots (Anne Frank House - very moving, Dam Square, red light area, shopping streets, canal boat tour - recommended, etc). We had a friendly reception everywhere we went, with English being spoken and help given freely, which was lovely. Amsterdam within […] the canal areas is easily walked and there are plenty of places to stop for food and drink if required. It's not a cheap place to do so though, but the food we had was of good quality wherever we went. Good shopping area too if that's what you're looking for. We did Park & Ride from Bos En Lammer and got the tram (14 or 7) into Amsterdam (return tickets for 4 of us included in the cost of parking,16 euros for 2 days) which stopped within easy walking distance of the hotel and is much better than driving in unless you know where you're going and want to pay for the privilege. The hotel is in several old canal houses, so no lift and steep stairs and don't expect the decor of a 5 star modern hotel. It has character though and gave us what we needed for our short stay so we have no complaints and would definitely recommend it (and we would stay there again too). We all loved Amsterdam and will be back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Fantastisk weekend i Amsterdam"

This hotel has a great location within easy walking distance of all the major sites in Amsterdam. Staff are very friendly, as is the lovely hotel dog, Taz. Breakfast really good, as well. Rooms are clean and some have fantastic canal views.
"Location Fabulous, Hotel Very Good"

The location of the hotel is wonderful. On a canal, very nice neighborhood, and very central. The staff was very helpful. I was able to use one of two guest computers as needed. I stayed in a single room up on the top floor. It was everything I needed, but small and, certainly, not luxurious (but I was expecting that). The bathroom was sparkling clean. Since it was warm the weekend I was there, I was thankful for the desk fan. The steps up to the room were, as others have noted, very steep. The carpet on the stair was a little musty. Overall, given the price, I was thrilled with the room and would definitely stay here again. Oh. And breakfast room made for great people watching on the canal bridge each morning.

We booked a a family room which was basic but very clean. Footstep noise loud from the room above - book the top floor if poss. The common lounge is beautiful as is the breakfast room. Friendly staff.
We were very pleased with our rooms at the Wiechmann (one for us, one for our older "kids"). The location could not be more perfect for easy walking access to shopping, transit, museums, restaurants and nightlife, yet the neighborhood is more subdued and quiet than the chaotic Leidsestraat or Kalverstraat areas. We walked about five blocks to the Anne Frank house, and about the same in the opposite direction to the Rijk's Museum and the other art museums. We took the 197 bus from Schipol to the Marnixstraat transit center and walked the last two blocks with no trouble. Only 5 euro. Both bathrooms were freshly renovated (careful, the hot water is very HOT!). The beds were comfortable enough (twins made up separately and pushed together) and the daily housekeeping was excellent. Yes, it is a dog-friendly hotel, but we are dog-friendly people, so we didn't mind. Yes, the steps are steep and there is no elevator, but that is historic Amsterdam. If that is a problem for you, I would recommend that you look into one of the larger, newer hotels. We didn't go up and down the stairs much, so we found it to be a fun part of the whole experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful whenever we asked for something, but otherwise did not pester us. The free breakfast is simple, but fresh, and the dining room could not be any more charming, with its canal and street views. You have a choice of soft-boiled eggs, cheese and ham, cereals, yogurt, fruits, and toast, as well as OJ, milk, water, coffee, and tea. There is an espresso/cappuccino maker in the lobby (ask the desk staff for help anytime of day). Staff keep the dining area very clean despite the large volume of guests passing through each morning. They serve until 11am on weekends in case you were out late the night before. There are no mini-fridges, coffee-makers or microwaves in the rooms which preserves the historic ambience, but they did allow us to put some items in the hotel fridge--like our left-over pizza. With the free breakfast and all the wonderful restaurants nearby, we found little need for appliances in our room. We especially enjoyed the Festina Lente pub around the corner as well as Brasserie Blazer a block away. So many restaurants and pubs, so little time! We will definitely stay at the Wiechmann again next time we're in Amsterdam and hopefully that will be very soon!
"Beautiful Hotel on Prinsengracht"

I had a great stay here two years ago. This is a family run quaint hotel on one of the nicest canals in Amsterdam. There is no elevator and the stairs are traditional Dutch stairs, but the location in fantastic. I loved the breakfast room overlooking the canal as I had my morning coffee. The staff was friendly and the hotel was very clean. I plan on returning here for my next trip to Amsterdam.

A nice place to stay. Clean hotel and friendly staff make this a place that I would consider staying at again. The only bad part is the steep narrow stairs. We were on the 4th floor, so lugging your suitcase up these stairs is a chore.
"Overrated, overpriced, & poor service."
08/13/14 GlobalLove247 Jacksonville, Florida
We only ended up staying here because we were tired, having driven into the city late in the day. We should have known better with how we were treated upon arrival. Our room was incredibly hot with no air conditioning, but more importantly, amazingly loud. Earplugs couldn't keep the noise at bay. Although a great view from the room, you might as well be sleeping on the street. Breakfast was a joke, and crazy decoration all around. The location is great for shopping, eating, sightseeing, but find another hotel in the area...there are plenty.
"Full of character and very friendly"

Stayed for 4 nights over Amsterdam Pride, as usual in room 239 with super canal view. Staff in breakfast room and reception very friendly and helpful. Rooms and hotel spotlessly clean and nothing was too much trouble even let us keep our food and drinks cool in fridge in kitchen. Loved seeing Taz the resident German Shepherd who is getting quite old but I, m sure she remembered us from the last visit. Ideal location in very nice area and loved to see the passing life of Amsterdam from the charming Breakfast room. Thanks again for a great stay and see you again next year, hopefully!
"Great family hotel in a super position"
08/04/14 Walkinggranny Greetham, United Kingdom
We stayed in the family suite on the first floor, two interconnecting bedrooms with a bathroom and a great view over the canal. It was perfect for us and the children and the breakfast was fine too. The only little minus was the noise from the street all night, when the windows were open (it was very warm last week!) Luckily the kids slept at the back where it was quiet and it was only our room which was noisy. The hotel was ideal for us and everything was in easy walking distance. I would recommend this hotel for a family. It was small, friendly, good value and in a great position.
"First trip to Amsterdam"
08/02/14 Mary E Birmingham, United Kingdom
Stayed here with a friend last week. Very good location for a hotel and convenient for walking everywhere you might want to visit. It's within the " Nine Streets area " and there are lots of places to eat in the evening. The hotel is a very interesting building and it was very unusual to be able to stay in a canal house. The stairs are steep but we both managed them and we're "ancient"! We thought the breakfasts were good and everything was very fresh and clean and cheerful. Some of the staff at the desk were nicer than others but the hotel was very good value considering we visited in the holiday period and Amsterdam is fairly pricey.
