"Lovely hotel in great location"
We stayed 2 nights (not long enough) and walked for miles around Amsterdam taking in the main tourist spots (Anne Frank House - very moving, Dam Square, red light area, shopping streets, canal boat tour - recommended, etc). We had a friendly reception everywhere we went, with English being spoken and help given freely, which was lovely. Amsterdam within […] the canal areas is easily walked and there are plenty of places to stop for food and drink if required. It's not a cheap place to do so though, but the food we had was of good quality wherever we went. Good shopping area too if that's what you're looking for. We did Park & Ride from Bos En Lammer and got the tram (14 or 7) into Amsterdam (return tickets for 4 of us included in the cost of parking,16 euros for 2 days) which stopped within easy walking distance of the hotel and is much better than driving in unless you know where you're going and want to pay for the privilege. The hotel is in several old canal houses, so no lift and steep stairs and don't expect the decor of a 5 star modern hotel. It has character though and gave us what we needed for our short stay so we have no complaints and would definitely recommend it (and we would stay there again too). We all loved Amsterdam and will be back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Fantastisk weekend i Amsterdam"

"Great Hotel, Great Location, Great City"

The Wiechmann hotel was a great find suggested by a friend who stayed here before. Though it's not considered "modern" it is by no means out-of-date. The room I had on the top floor for a single person (though it included two twins beds...) was amazing and perfect. I opted for the cheaper "non-canal view" and I didn't miss the view at all - I got a lovely view of the rooftops of the city and got to see hidden yards, gardens, etc. The room itself is well-appointed, with a TV, large wardrobe, and plenty of space. The bathroom was adequate and there was plenty of hot water. The infamous steps, mentioned in many a review, aren't that hard to navigate and are typical for Amsterdam buildings...you really do feel like you're in an authentic hotel! The breakfast provided is in a cute dining room on the corner where you can people watch through large windows and see the scenery. The location is excellent. Moreover, the desk staff is friendly and mostly local, with the owners themselves working it most of the time. The great thing is, there is always someone at the desk. Ordering a cab very early to get to Rotterdam on my last morning was a breeze. Terrific value, great location, and friendly staff. What more could you want? I cannot wait to return.

My girlfriend and I stayed here from 1-3 February 2014. The comfortable double room had wonderful views of the junction of two canals which could be viewed from the window by the bed as well as from the balcony. It was furnished with slightly old-fashioned but comfortable wooden furniture and fittings. The public rooms were similarly furnished and comfortable. The staff were very helpful, particularly after I left my passport and quite a lot of cash in the room safe and was out of the city before I noticed and went back. They were most efficient and tolerant in sorting matters out. A very good hotel.
"Good location and good value"

Stayed here for 2 nights while attending a conference at the Amsterdam Rai. The hotel is well located near the city centre, a 5-10 minute walk from the nearest tram stop. It is a bit old fashioned but that adds a certain charm and I prefer this type of hotel to standard chains. The hotel is on a canal so it is definitely worth getting a canal view room. I had a room on the top floor, note there is no lift and the stairs are pretty steep but this is made plain on the hotel web site. Good free Wifi works throughout. A nice stay, good value.

It has a friendly and familiar staff to talk with, you can ask every thing about your stay in amsterdam and they are very helpful to give the information needed. The hotel is clean, it has all facilities needed and it is at short walk from the city center attractions. Last but not least it offers breakfast in the morning in a hall facing the famous canals in the city.
"Very service oriented hotel"

I was impressed by the attention to details at the Weichmann. I personally liked the availability of hot tea at most hours of the day and night. For a cold Amsterdam night being served a cup of hot tea is extremely refreshing. I would return to this hotel.

this is a reasonably priced hotel near the centre of Amsterdam. It has a superb breakfast room, and lounge for guests and really helpful staff. The room are small but full of character, a typical Dutch house but really well done. it is a family establishment!

My first trip to Amsterdam was made all the more fabulous by having chosen this extremely comfortable and authentic family-run hotel. The extra money that I paid for a canal view was worth every penny. The location is very central and picturesque situated at a busy but localised crossing point for traffic and pedestrians alike; but at the same time giving a wonderful snapshot of everdyay life 'Amsterdam style' as seen from the Breakfast Room, serving a varied and substantial breakfast. If I was being picky, I missed not having yoghurt and larger cups for tea or coffee. Other than that I couldn't fault the friendly service. You just can't feel that 'bygone era' vibe in a modern hotel that you experience at the 'Weichmann'!
"Wiechmann Hotel - week-end away with friends"

Very well located for access to City centre and nightlife (about 15 minute walk). Hotel right next door to one of the canals. Hotel was clean but quite old fashioned. No TV in lounge area but flat screens in the rooms. Large double bed, comfy but needed more blankets. Very deep bath to step into if you wanted a shower so not good if you have mobility issues. Room was clean but furniture, bedding, etc. very dated. Stairs very steep to all the floors (we were on the 2nd). Continental breakfast okay. Boiled eggs available but nothing else hot, just cheeses and hams and toast and jam and a bowl of tinned peaches or a bowl of fruit (no marmalade) and tea and coffee out of an urn. Breakfast room overlooks the street and canal so very pleasant but really missed a nice cooked hot breakfast option. Staff very helpful but taxi they booked for us for pickup from airport on Friday night did not turn up so we just got in a taxi at the airport and cost was the same (around EUR40). Hotel has no restaurant for lunch or dinner but there are restaurants nearby.

We stayed at the Wiechmann in September 2013. We had a small room on the second floor - very steep and narrow staircase and only an internal "view" - go for the street/canal view. The breakfast room offers a wonderful sight of Amsterdam "commuting" - we were surprised there weren't more accidents as bikes of all kinds and pedestrians wove intricate crossing patterns avoiding collision. Food for breakfast was "standard" - cereal, fruit, bread, cheese and meat. No cooked food. The hotel is conveniently located within a short walk of the main train station and museums. We walked everywhere - no need for a bus.
"Our stay at Hotel Wiechmann"
11/23/13 John S Stevenage, United Kingdom
My wife and I together with another couple with whom we have been friends for 50 years stayed at Hotel Wiechmann on the nights of 18th, 19th and 20th November 2013. Although we had seen many good reviews on Tripadvsor we had also seen a few terrible reviews and were thus slightly worried. Our fears were totally unfounded. The hotel has "character" which we really liked. The staff were friendly and the clientele were reserved and pleasant people. The room in which we stayed was moderate to small with an old fashioned wardrobe but it was warm and comfortable with arm chairs, a flat screen TV and a canal view. We both have minor back trouble which can be exacerbated by some beds but we found these beds comfortable and woke with no problems. The room also had a safe. We were issued with a key to the front door, a key to the room and a key to the safe and got back our 20 Euro deposit when we left. Stairs to our room were steep but typical of Amsterdam. Breakfast was fine - not bacon and eggs but cereals, cheese, fruit, tea, toast etc. One evening we spent an hour playing bridge in the lounge which is comfortable and interesting. The hotel is within walking distance of everything - just over a mile to Central Station and just over a mile to the Concertgebouw with Dam Square, restaurants and the red light district all closer. We bought a 4 day tram ticket but could easily have managed without. If and when we go back to Amsterdam we will probably stay at Hotel Wiechmann.
