"Great location for Temples"
The room was cozy with high ceilings. It contained only a bed, a TV and a small fridge with 2 free waters everyday. The bathroom was nice where the shower was separate from the toilet (there are places where they're together so showering would cause the toilet area to get wet) Also, it wasn't the most pleasant smelling bathroom. The bed was soft and […] comfortable. The room was above "The Gate" restaurant was downstairs so it was convenient to get food when needed. A 711 was also 2 blocks away so another benefit. Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha) was steps away as well as The Grand Palace. And Wat Arun is close by as well. The only downside of this hotel was the internet would go down occasionally. Otherwise, a great place to stay and close to many sights and attractions. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and fun rooms"
There's only a handful of rooms in the place and my one was the lofted one you see in the images of the place. I arrived late one night and whilst there normally is no staff at the hotel, there was someone waiting for me when I arrived. If you get there and there is nobody around though, the hotel is owned by the same people that run the hotel on the […] opposite side of the street and also the Arun Residence at the end of the street (still just only about 60ft away). Room was very clean and tidy. For me the fact that you can we Wat Bo from your window, and are just a few feet away from a great view of Wat Arun at the Arun Residence restaurant and roof bar, it was just perfect for me. "Excellent location to visiting old city"

Really nice room. I have free upgrading to suite room which had the beautiful view to the temple. The bunk bed room was small with a really nice window(not sure!) on the ceiling so the light can come through. The bed was really comfortable. No receptionist after 7pm and you have the key of the entrance gate so you can go back or leave anytime. The cafe downstair was good and you definitely must try the The deck bar at the end of the alley. It takes only 3 mins to the temple and about 15 mins to the grand palace. In general, it was beyond my expectation at the price I had paid. i will stay here again if I return to Bangkok.
"Amazing location, beautiful colonial style hotel - fantastic"

Having been to Thailand before and made the mistake of staying in the chit Lom area (miles away from the touristy areas) we decided to take a chance and book into a hotel by the river. On a budget we couldn't afford anything posh so picked this hotel as a bit of a gamble - and it massively paid off. The location is second to none - I could see way pho from my window. The grand palace is just over the way as well. The rooms were spotless and the beds sooooo comfy. A must is a visit to the gate restaurant at the end of the road - you would never know it was there as the road is somewhat ally like and a dead end; however the views to wat Arun over the chaopraya are second to none. There is an upstairs bar here too wish gives you the best views. The hotel should be fine to find as long as you tell the taxi or tuk tuk driver to head for maharat. If you go past the 7-11 on your right you have gone too far; it's a few streets before that. It's not an immediately noticeable hotel so you do have to look out for it. If arriving after 9pm, like we did, let the hotel know cos they for have 24 reception Service but they do arrange for your key card to be left at the gate restaurant. The staff are highly friendly and responded to my email within the hour. All I can say is I couldn't recommend this hotel more highly. It was a pleasure to stay here
"Great Place to Stay! Amazing location and service!!!"

My wife and I stayed here in February and will always remember the place and how accommodating the staff were! The rooms were very clean and well kept! The best beds we had in Thailand! It was easy to find and The location could not be better, right outside Wat Pho and The Grand Palace. One block from the water taxis and right beside a large food market!!! Great street Food! Thank you Mr. Ong!!!! This place made Bangkok very enjoyable!!!
"Great location and nice rooms"
We stayed here over Christmas and had a wonderful experience. We had some trouble getting here from the airport as the taxi stand people had no idea where this was and we did not have the phone # for the hotel. We ended up taking the train into Bangkok then getting a cab the rest of the way. My #1 tip for traveling in Bangkok is to have the address of your destination written in Thai for you or through a translation program. None of the cab drivers speak great English and they certainly can't read it. They don't know where anything is and won't make an effort to help you out. You could also tell your driver to take you to Wat Pho as the hotel is right across the street. Super location! You can get a cab or tuk tuk at a moment's notice and walk to Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. There is a big market nearby with lots of yummy food and street vendors surround Wat Pho, so there's a ton to see and do. At night, it's a little less bustling right around the hotel, but you can walk a few blocks to night time markets. Our room was quite small, but very clean and well-appointed. The shower is nice and big. The place has wifi as well. We only saw someone at the front desk area twice (upon our arrival and right before we left), but there is a sister hotel down the alley that looks to be fully staffed most of the time. Overall, a great place to stay right in the midst of a bustling part of Bangkok.
"Perfect for exploring the old city"

I was in Bangkok for a flying visit and I wanted to visit the old parts of the city. This hotel has a near perfect location for this and I could see Wat Pho from my room window and Wat Arun just by stepping from the front door. I was happy to see that the excellent Deck restaurant at the Arun Residence was just a few feet from my door. My room was the one depicted in the images with the lofted bed, a really fun room that was clean and cool. The hotel does have a small cafe beneath it but it really caters for westerners who aren't feeling very adventurous...... I would stay clear of that and head to Arun Residence or Sala Rattanakosin for food nearby with stunning views of Wat Arun. Being within just a few minutes walk to the Grand Palace, a few seconds from Wat Pho and views of Wat Arun was just perfect for my trip.
"chill in classy ambience"

Was at "The Gate" the first time today and I wonder why?! Although the concept is of a snack bar with self-service, the service provided by the staff is still very efficient and forthcoming. The interior is classy and the aircondition makes it comfortable. WiFi is available. Food consists mainly of snacks like Panini with salad but Spaghetti and some light Thai dishes are on offer as well. Tea, coffee and a small selection of cakes and ice-cream (real, tasty ice-cream!) complete the otherwise small menu. Prices are very reasonable. A good place to pop in whenever near-by
"Clean Comforable Convenient Oasis"

Rooms (as a family we have experience of three different rooms). All are clean, comfortable and serviced daily! Although not over large they are perfectly adequate! Beware the stairs are quite steep, though staff are most willing to help with baggage. Staff - Jan was a very helpful person who did her utmost to make our stay successful and enjoyable, even going out of her way to get us a table at the Deck By The River restaurant when they appeared fully booked. She recommended trips and arranged for my taxi to Kanchanaburi at a discounted rate. Her colleagues were just as helpful. As Jan only works part time the staff at the Deli or at Arun Residence (along the side street) can hold keys and book you in. Situation - Just opposite Wat Pho and very close to the Grand Palace. Many tourist spots such as the museum and market stalls within easy walking distance. Parking opposite on Thanon Chetuphon is free for residents. Also convenient for ferry to Wat Arun and river boats. Dining - Deli At The Gate on the ground floor has a good choice for breakfast and snacks throughout the day. In the evening the do have some 'specials.' Several doors away at another hotel is an acceptable and reasonable restaurant. However, just along the side street is the Deck By The River restaurant at one of the sister hotels -Arun Residence. We ate here most nights. The menu choice and quality are super, though not the cheapest in Bangkok. This restaurant is on two floors and is very popular, I suggest you book the evening before. Several of our family have experienced some Bangkok hotels being very poor, but once discovered Chetuphon Gate is the one used on return visits. Thank You Jan and colleagues!!

This review is based upon a 50% discounted rate of 23eu per night. The full rate of 46eu is way to much and there are definitively better places in that price range. We arrived at night and confirmed that it was possible, however upon arrival the place was locked down with no way to get in. Luckely a local helped us out showing where a sister hotel was and eventually we got in. The next day the staff acted like nothing happened and just asked for our passports. The rooms are clean and a bit on the small side. Our room was filled with mosquitoes as the wood floors contained large holes. The location for sightseeing is great as the grand palace and some major temples are nearby. However the area is deserted during the evenings and there are no restaurants or shops nearby. The last day we asked to pay they said no need we already charged your credit card which we used for booking/reservation purposes only. We found this extremely rude. During our stay we never say someone at the reception even at check out we had to hand the keys to the restaurant staff. Overall the place was good for the price and good for sightseeing. However the bad service and nothing nearby like restaurants leaves us with mixed feelings.

clean and quite. Service is so good. i would come again because it is so easy to access in the centre area. Staffs are so friendly and helpful. However, a room I was staying ,it was quite small room but cute. and one more thing I like about was there is a cafe shop at the ground floor so it was good to have a break there.
"Prima hotel op een perfecte locatie"
09/06/14 Jeffrie D
