"Pompei Ruins Convenience"
Our triple room #35 was not a great one for a husband, wife and son...since it came with three small beds. We had a good laugh because it reminded us of a convent room. The quality of the furniture was fair to poor and this particular room did not have shower. After my son left we we switched to a double room #49...my wife and I were very happy. Better […] furniture, one bed, shower and a balcony that could view the Pompei ruins and mountain to the South. Parking and WiFi were a plus, but ask for a wifi username and password for you entire stay...otherwise you'll need to get a new one every 24 hours. The free breakfasts were great if you are from Europe, but this American missed his usual. Don't pay the extra fee for a cappuccino...this must be the only place in Italy that can't make a great Italian espresso cafe. The hotel is super convenient to Pompei ruins, but would not suggest using it for more than a day or two or as a base of operations for a family trip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very good value!"
This is a nice, inexpensive hotel right near one of the entrances to the ruins. It's a bit far from the train station, but all the hotels are (you need to take a cab). It's recently renovated. A hook in the bathroom for housecoat, etc., and a shelf in the shower for soap, shampoo, etc., would be nice. Very friendly staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel del Sole. Best Hotel in my Italia trip!"
The most economical of all the hotels in the Italia trip that I recently made. Also the only one that did not charge us the famous "city tax" at the end or beginning of the stay. Comfortable room, good bathroom. The breakfast area, inside or outside was very pleasant. The breakfast, very good and plentiful. The service, excellent! Also I must add, a […] great place to eat at lees than 2 blocks from the hotel, Restaurant Empire. It is located in the same street as the hotel. Very reasonable priced, some of the best pizza and pasta in Italy. Great service too! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Best value I ever had, great location clean place and great valueGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Initially we were given a room without a balcony on the first floor overlooking a blank wall. The staff reaccommodated us after we explained that when we booked we were given a room with a balcony by Expedia.com.All the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very basic but sufficient especially if you have a sweet tooth(plenty of cakes).Genuine Expedia guest review
Great location, very friendly helpful staff. Be mindful that the rooms at the front have a great view but if you are a light sleeper a room off the street may be a good optionGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A nice hotel really near the ruins."
The experience was fine: the hotel provided what we required. Having a place to park the car was really useful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent location for a few days stay"
Ideal location not just for Pompeii (which has a quieter entrance just over the road) but it is close to good roads to visit the whole region. The nearby town has plenty of good priced restaurants and shops plus the Old West restaurant which makes a rare change from Italian food. Room was pretty basic but more than adequate. Shower was not great but […] good enough. Air con worked well and they seemed happy to leave it on all day making the room nice and cool after a hot day sightseeing. Friendly and helpful staff throughout. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, lovely breakfast rooms and staff"
As my second time in Pompeii I was just hoping the hotel would be comfortable. It's totally surpassed that. The hotel staff were excellent very helpful at all times and the cleanliness of the room was outstanding. Perfect location for visiting the ruins or taking a train to other towns. The breakfast was great, typically Italian but with so much on […] offer, fruit, cakes, lovely coffee. Would highly recommend this hotel out of the 4 hotels I stayed in on across Italy. This hotel is very convenient to the Pompeii ruins. The price was reasonable. The only problem was that the elevator was broken and they put us on the fourth floor. My 87 year old dad was with us and they would not move our room to a lower floor.
"Excellent price-quality ratio, and so friendly staff!"

The good: - the hotel is so close to the Pompei antique site, and in the center of the nice city of Pompei. - the staff is one of the most firendly I ever met, they were very helpful and careful for everything. - the meal at the restaurant are good, with a very interesting price for the daily menu. The staff at the restaurant is very friendly as well. - free secured parking, free wifi, free baby cot... very cool! The modern city of Pompei is small but full of nice shops, you can find all the best italian brands if you want to have a quick shopping time! The place counts good restaurants and gelateria as well. The less good: - the bed was way too soft and weak - the shower head was almost clogged by scales, it has to be put urgently in the vinegar! - during weekends, the square outside is the meeting place for kids at night, with car rodeo and horn competition... BUT for the price we payed, and considering the good service, this place is really worthing the cost. Thanks to the Hotel del Sole team :)
"Good hotel close to pompei ruins"

Spent 3 nights there in November 2013. The reception staff was always friendly and helpful. The rooms (one single and one double room) and bathrooms were clean and equipped with closet, table, chair and tv with italian stations. The a/c worked ok as heating. Breakfast was good, empty things were filled up quickly by the staff. There was also a locked parking space for guests, which was quite essential for us with the rental car. There is also free wifi, you have to get a new code after a day. The hotel is within a very short (50m) walking distance to the back entrance of pompei ruins. The Santuario del Madonna del Rosario (pilgrim church) is a 10-minute walk away.
"Nice hotel, obliging staff, but take care over booking"
10/22/13 Epidavros Manchester
Stayed October 2013. The hotel description on Booking.com says of rooms: "Some overlook the Vesuvio and the archeological site, while others overlook the garden." Well, they don't. The one we were offered overlooked a shabby rear of another building and service areas. However, when I complained we were moved to a room with a view towards the Sanctuary and over a tiny garden, which was very nice. Indeed overall the staff were exceedingly obliging, though I suggest you note you want a view at booking if it is important to you. The rooms are a decent size, in good decorative order (if a little old fashioned) with large bathrooms. We found the beds very comfortable. Breakfast is very good with a range of meats, cheese and sweets cakes and breads, served buffet style. The coffee could have been stronger. One entrance to the ruins is a 2 minute walk away. The situation for stations is more complex. Pompei Scavi is on the Sorrento line and is a 15 minute walk away. Pompei station is much closer - perhaps 5 minutes walk - but is on the Poggiomarino line, which has much less frequent services. Pompei is quiet at night once the day trippers leave (say after 8 pm) so not a place for party animals, but a good choice of a base if you do not want to stay in Naples itself (its about 30 minutes from both Sorrento and Naples).
"Very Disappointing Experience"

I'd been really looking forward to my two-night stay at the Hotel del Sole and, prior to my arrival, had wonderful interactions with hotel staff. However, post-arrival, things started to go downhill--quickly. The first thing was that the internet didn't work for the entirety of my stay. This is a problem, as it was the number-one criterion in booking the hotel (I had to work from Italy). I had an Italian SIM so was able to pay to recharge that to access the web and tether my computer, but this involved a trip in the rain to the www vendor and personal expense to me--with no offer from the hotel of helping with this (despite being well-apprised of my circumstances). Wifi set aside, there were other small things: no soap in the bathroom (really?), yes, the beds were hard (but it's Europe, kind of typical compared to the US), etc. But the real atrocity came at check out, when the surly and hostile man working at the front desk failed to communicate with me about what I supposedly "owed" the hotel for food (I hadn't eaten in the restaurant). Sure, some of the explosive argument (staff being the “explosive” party) that ensued may have arisen from the fact that I don't speak fluent Italian, relying on the promise of "multilingual" staff. But language barriers and multiculturalism set aside, it was a humiliating, terrible experience to be treated in the fashion that was demonstrated. I had a flight to catch (I was checking out at 5 AM) and the front desk staff person was being extremely slow and inefficient about the process (most people aren’t checking out at 5 for fun, after all—and I had made temporal adjustments for European versus American notions of efficient check outs). And then demanding that I pay for eating there--Even though I didn't know what I was agreeing to, I explained that I absolutely had to go or I would miss my flight and to please charge anything else to the card on file (they'd already charged some, so this should not have been a problem). Things continued to get heated even after I asked for this "favor" and I ducked out, not about to miss a flight to Holland on account of being screamed at. So, the hotel SENT THE POLICE AFTER ME (again, with an already-charged credit card on file) which resulted in missing my train for my flight and one of the worst travel days of my life. Sure, not everyone would have this experience at the Hotel del Sole, but the fact that it is even possible to have such a heinous incident...well, there are plenty of other of nice hotels in Pompei.

We stayed at this hotel for four days. What a great location to the ruins. Very friendly staff, gave us good places to eat, and great directions to wherever we wanted to go. The shower was standard, good water pressure and temperature regulation. Breakfast was good. Rooms were clean, no odd odors, but ,the beds were very hard. I could live with that but the pillows were as hard as the bed. They really need to address this problem. Other than that I would recommend this hotel.

Helpful staff, great location and excellent facilities. Staff English level good but not expert. No English channels on TV. Rooms are spacious with good wifi and balconies where you can smoke. Breakfast was more than adequate. Overall this a very good choice for people who want to see the ruins and Roman excavations. John Spencer Gold Coast Australia
"Nice Hotel Except for the Hard Beds"
10/09/13 SoloMe-oTraveler Los Angeles, California
Well, we should have been warned when the mirror fell off the cupboard as soon as we arrived. The room itself was pleasant enough looking and the location can't be beat. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the included breakfast was not bad either. So, what can be improved? The beds, most of all---they were hard as stones and the pillows were like a sack of sand. Other than that, it was noisy, especially in the morning, but street noise at night was also a problem. We also had mosquitos which may not be the hotels problem but we didn't appreciate the extra company.
"Clean, comfortable & good value for 3 star rating"

The Hotel del Sole is located opposite one of three entrances into Pompeii Archeological Site - which was perfect for our log weekend break. The staff were very friendly and helpful, speaking excellent english. The room was clean & the en-suite provided a good shower plus toilet, bidet & wash basin. Breakfast was buffet stle with a wide range of pastries, cakes, cereals & bread. The location of the hotel made it easy to walk 5 minutes into the city of Pompeii where there were restaurants to suit all budgets. We used the train to get further afield to Herculeneum, Vesuvius & Sorrento. There are 3 train stations all within a 5-10 minute walk. The staff at the station that we used were very helpful and travel was a very economical way of getting about. The trains are basic with graffitti but once you got used to this they served their purpose. We felt that the hotel offered all that we needed for the limited time that we werre in our room. We would not hesitate to stay there again or indeed to recommend it to anyone simply looking for a base to explore this amazing area of Italy.
"Clean, convenient for both Pompeii/modern Pompei and friendly staff"
Booked hotel after reading reviews on TA and very happy with my stay. LOCATION The hotel is on Via Plinio, just a couple of minutes walk to the quieter entrance to Pompeii at Piazza Anfiteatro, about 10 mins walk to Pompei train station, 15-20 walk to Pompeii Scavi train station, and close to the town and beautiful Basilica/bell tower. A couple of "top-rated on TA" places to eat nearby, plus loads more. ROOM Clean and spacious with double doors opening onto a balcony. Had view towards Basilica and over hotel's garden/dining area. Quiet (but I guess that also depends on guests!). Small, clean shower room with hairdryer. TV and aircon. Nice firm mattress (twin beds pushed together). Free Wi-fi. BUFFET BREAKFAST Small selection of bread, cheese, cakes, pastries, yoghurt, juice and one tea/coffee (additional ones have to be bought at bar). Enough to start you off, but no biggy to miss! Summary: Very pleasant, no problems, all staff were friendly and helpful, great location and we got it for about 30 GBP a night. Would stay again if we ever go back to Pompei!
