"Nice for a quick trip"
At first this hotel was hard to find. We got off one the Pompei Scavi subway stop and thought the hotel would be right there since it says "right across from Pompeii entrance". True- but not the entrance near the subway. It's about 15 minute walk from that subway stop. Pretty much a straight shot down, but we got lost several times (our fault though!) […] Hotel staff was very good speaking English to us. Free breakfast was good. Wifi a but slow but free nonetheless so no complaints. Room was nice for what we paid/needed. We had 2 twin beds room. Lots of space. Beautiful view from balcony. Overall, good value for price! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pompei Ruins Convenience"
Our triple room #35 was not a great one for a husband, wife and son...since it came with three small beds. We had a good laugh because it reminded us of a convent room. The quality of the furniture was fair to poor and this particular room did not have shower. After my son left we we switched to a double room #49...my wife and I were very happy. Better […] furniture, one bed, shower and a balcony that could view the Pompei ruins and mountain to the South. Parking and WiFi were a plus, but ask for a wifi username and password for you entire stay...otherwise you'll need to get a new one every 24 hours. The free breakfasts were great if you are from Europe, but this American missed his usual. Don't pay the extra fee for a cappuccino...this must be the only place in Italy that can't make a great Italian espresso cafe. The hotel is super convenient to Pompei ruins, but would not suggest using it for more than a day or two or as a base of operations for a family trip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very good value!"
This is a nice, inexpensive hotel right near one of the entrances to the ruins. It's a bit far from the train station, but all the hotels are (you need to take a cab). It's recently renovated. A hook in the bathroom for housecoat, etc., and a shelf in the shower for soap, shampoo, etc., would be nice. Very friendly staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel del Sole. Best Hotel in my Italia trip!"
The most economical of all the hotels in the Italia trip that I recently made. Also the only one that did not charge us the famous "city tax" at the end or beginning of the stay. Comfortable room, good bathroom. The breakfast area, inside or outside was very pleasant. The breakfast, very good and plentiful. The service, excellent! Also I must add, a […] great place to eat at lees than 2 blocks from the hotel, Restaurant Empire. It is located in the same street as the hotel. Very reasonable priced, some of the best pizza and pasta in Italy. Great service too! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Thank goodness she didn't blow!"
We booked this hotel last minute and we were glad we did! So close to the ruins and restaurants. Our only complaint was that the name of the hotel needs to be more prominent on the front than a circle the size of a dinner plate! The only way we found the place was one of our party saw the rooftop sign!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and friendly helpful staff"
The hotel was a 15 minute walk from the Pompei Scavi train station. Very friendly staff and a nice bar / restaurant with reasonable prices too. Our room overlooked the newer part of town on the fourth floor. Not many rooms seem to look over the ruins but these may be available to be booked through the Hotel itself? "Value for money"
My single room did not have a fridge or safe but was clean and had a balcony that caught the early morning sun. Other rooms may have more facilities. The members of staff worked as a team and were very friendly and helpful. The food was good, particularly the Pizza which was cooked in a wood fired oven. They use Orange wood which imparts a subtle citrus […] flavour. The Hotel is close to two Stations with links to Salerno, Sorrento and Napoli. It lies in a quiet area close to town, with the edge of the ancient remains over the road. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Good hotel, opposite one of the entrances to Pompeii ruins. Close to the town, bars and resaurants. Easy walk from circumvesuviana and the mainline station. Hotel and room very clean, friendly helpful staff. Breakfast, typical coffee and cake affair (plus a few extras - cereal, cold meats, fruit salad). "Excellent position for sightseeing"
Arrived 11.30am room was readily available made very welcome.A small refridgerator in the room was very handy as we bought water, orange soft drinks from the local supermarket. No Tea/Coffee in the rooms. The room was cleaned immaculately daily with clean fresh towels.A couple of chairs on the verandah would help we used the room chair and bathroom stool. We […] had no problem with noise and the mountain views were appreciated. Breakfast was a good variety of cakes, fruit juice,a small selection of cold cheese/meats, cereals, yogurt,A good selection of Breakfast spreads.Fruit salad. Coissants. The coffee was poor unfortunately. The Hotel presentation and environment was very good. Pompeii rear entrance was a pleasant 100 metre stroll away so very handy. The immediate area was pleasing with various shops, Pizza Restaurants, Bars, Cafes. New Pompeii centre only 10 minutes walk with a nice pleasant square to sit. The main Pompeii Scavi rail station was 20 minutes walk with trains every 30 minutes to Naples/Sorrento/ Heraculeum. It took 35 minutes to Sorrento at a cost of 4.40 euros return although the Trains are full of graffiti on the outside the compartments are clean bUt at times can be crowded, overall the Trains serve the purpose very well. We visted Vesuvious/Heraculeum,Pompeii/ Sorrento and even Capri in 4 days comfortably. The walk from Sorrento station to the portside took 15 minutes. The cost of the Hydrofoil to Capri 37 euros return a trip NOT TO BE MISSED Had a great time Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Terrible, the receptionist was great after that it was all down hill. Room terrible noise terrible next to lift. Did not sleep at all. Asked to be moved told not possible. Only good thing about hotel was it's closeness to the ruins otherwise don't botherGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value hotel opposite the entrance to Pompei"
This is a good value hotel with friendly staff and reasonable rooms (some with balconies which is great). It's in a great location within Pompeii within easy walking distance of both stations and almost opposite the main entrance to the excavations and also the bus stop for going up Vesuvius. The only thing that let the place down was the abysmal shower […] which barely had any water flow or temperature. We reported it to reception but it didn't improve. It was the only thing that soured an otherwise reasonable hotel. Breakfast is varied with lots of cake and some cereals but they may not be to everyones taste. Apart from the shower, I would have recommended this place to others for the price. I think we were also slightly unlucky in that the two nights we stayed there, some students were making quite a bit of noise. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Excellent location for a few days stay"
Ideal location not just for Pompeii (which has a quieter entrance just over the road) but it is close to good roads to visit the whole region. The nearby town has plenty of good priced restaurants and shops plus the Old West restaurant which makes a rare change from Italian food. Room was pretty basic but more than adequate. If you're going to this area of Italy definitely stay here - it is close to the train station so you can take day trips to all of the surrounding towns and access the Amalfi coast. It is cheaper than anything comparable in Sorrento and the staff are great. There is an excellent breakfast buffet included in the room price and wifi is free. It's directly across from the ruins so perfect for touring Pompeii
"Great location, clean rooms, but paper-thin walls and noisy plumbing"
11/12/14 gschloesser1 Jefferson City, Tennessee
I chose this hotel mainly because of its convenient location to an uncrowded side entrance to the ancient city of Pompei. It is only a block or so from this entrance, so I did not have to worry about parking. Plus, the hotel is just a few blocks from the main square of the new city, which we were planning to wander. The hotel has a modern decor and appearance and offered a nice breakfast of breads, cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, sweet breads and more. The room was reasonably spacious, but the bed was as hard as the stone walls in Pompei. Worse, however, was the plumbing in the walls, which sounded like a rain forest every time folks in the neighboring room (or perhaps upstairs) flushed their toilet. Unfortunately for us it sounded like the room was occupied by the Dugger family, all of whom were suffering from intestinal disorder, which was apparent by their abundant trips to the john. This noisy flushing continued periodically throughout both nights of our stay. The ladies at the front desk were all friendly and helpful. We did not eat in the restaurant for dinner.
"Okay Room - Very Noisy"
10/20/14 Robinrianda Gulroy
I picked this hotel because of its location near the Pompeii Ruins. The staff was very nice. The room and bathroom were small but clean. Unfortunately, the sliding door in our room opened up to an outdoor restaurant. The noise from the diners was so loud it was almost as if they were in our room. The noise lasted well into the night. We were glad we only spent one night here. Will not recommend this hotel to anyone
"A little faded"
10/15/14 baronessCornwallUK Cornwall UK
Clean rooms, but dark and dated furniture. Dribbly shower. One excellent helpful receptionist with really good English. Visited as staff member with party of 21 students. Breakfast was not great, especially for the teenage boys who were restricted to one croissant and a packet of dry crisp bakes. W e had to ask for more! There was plenty of food set out on a table for other guests, and we were told it would be thrown away if note consumed, so it seemed ridiculous to prevent our lads from eating it. t They did see sense at last. Very convenient for the ruins of Pompeii which were just across the road. Considering that our guide kept telling us about the wonderful fruit and veg that could be grown on the fertile volcanic solid, there was No evidence of that in the hotels or the food stalls.
"Excellent Location for Visiting the Scavi and town"
10/15/14 Mangomum2 Miami Springs, Florida
This is a budget hotel that is in a great location, right across the street from a crowd-free side entrance to the Pompeii excavations, clean, comfortable and good wifi connection. We stayed there 2 nights. On the first night, a tour group of young people was checking in, so it was a bit noisy until they settled down, but completely quiet by 11. Free secure parking, and a nice outdoor garden in the back. Staff was friendly, spoke excellent English and was responsive to requests for extra pillows and towels. Yes, the decor is dated, but it's in good condition and well maintained. The elevator is small but worked fine. Bathroom water pressure and temperature were also fine. Didn't eat dinner at the restaurant, but we went there for drinks one night - friendly staff, good service and pleasant outdoor seating as well as indoor dining room. Both nights we stayed there, it seemed to be pretty busy with locals as well as visitors. The breakfast was a continental buffet with predominantly sweet pastries and cakes, but they did offer some bread, cheese, hard boiled eggs, sliced tomatoes and fruit. The juice was OK the first morning, but just awful and watered down the second. A suggestion to future visitors: don't sell the town of Pompei short by visiting only the excavations. It is a short walk to the center of the town, and it has a beautiful church, good indoor and outdoor restaurants, "rusticcerias" and gelato shops. There is also a moving and unexpected memorial to the 9/11 attack, complete with a piece of twisted beam from the World Trade towers.
"Recent trip to Pompeii"
10/14/14 Alan B Fleetwood, United Kingdom
Reception staff very friendly. Rooms basic, clean but dated. Poor lighting. No tea or coffee making facilities in room. Buffet breakfast adequate but small portions, dined in hotel restaurant on our last night was not impressed. Had pork in wine and lemon sauce, very fatty. Children had spaghetti which they enjoyed. Central location for sight seeing in Pompeii. In and around the centre there is a beautiful square, amazing church, lovely café bars and restaurants. Ideal location for visiting the ruins which has an entrance across the road from the hotel. 5 - 10 minute walk to train station. Would stay again at this hotel but probably not dine in the restaurant.
"Welll placed for visiting the ruins"
10/09/14 Derek N Winchester, United Kingdom
Having travelled in our own care from the UK, we found the closed free parking very valuable. The hotel is somewhat dated but within easy walking distance of the ruins. Staff are friendly, as others have mentioned. The restaurant where we had dinner twice was adequate but nothing special. Rooms basic, but comfortable, clean and air conditioned.
"Would not recommend this hotel"
09/12/14 KSM L The Netherlands
Positive: the receptionists are friendly, speaks English. Private car park. Wi-fi. Location: walking distance to ruins, restaurants. Negatives: terribly dated: furniture, restaurant, bedroom, tiny elevator for 2; plumbing in our shower almost fully calcified, low pressure, resulting in a dribble ! When we asked for a change of room for want of a proper shower , the reply" the technician has certified everything is OK!" Poor lighting, There is table lamp under a window, but one has to disconnect the fridge under the table to use the one and only contact point, could not recharge mobiles, etc. The breakfast tablecloths were dirty with stains from previous meals and cigarette burns , such a turn-off to start the day. We cannot understand why the buffet breakfast table has only small servings, resulting in guests constantly waiting for refills e.g 3 boiled eggs cut into 5 wedges each, 3 small tomatoes sliced thinly, 5 slices each cheese and ham, cereal bowls the size of espresso cups. No bread, only lots of fruit flans and sweet cakes; also a saucer full of pizza dough cut into fingers.
"Do not stay here"
09/08/14 leathal_lee Melbourne, Australia
Only thing going for this place is friendly staff and location. Rooms are noisy , and bathrooms are mouldy. There is no bar fridge for cool drinks - not even a spare roll of toilet paper - keys must be left at reception when you go out - even for tea - yet there is not a safe in your room for valuables ... The noise is intolerable both from outside and in . I would not recommend this place
"A mixed dining experience"
09/02/14 temesed Bournemouth, United Kingdom
We had supper here yesterday and it was a very mixed experience. First of all - the staff is friendly and speak good English. The menu is reasonable but only in Italian. I've ordered grilled chicken with Capriccio salad (or something similar), which looked really nice on the photo; my husband was having veal with fries. We waited a good 20 mins before our food arrived and that's when the disappointment started: my chicken breast was small, thinly sliced, very dry and pretty tasteless; the salad was missing half the ingredients, compared to the photo. My husband's meal was absolutely cold, fries - very soggy and small portion. When it came to paying, we were charged 6 euro for the salad, instead of 4. When we asked about it, we were told that it's because the mozzarella was an extra...but the fact that it was missing the peppers, olives, capers and tomatoe somehow went unnoticed. This was a particularly bad evening for us because we were also charged extra for a few drinks at a nearby bar and cake shop. Left us with an unpleasant feeling and from then onwards we promised to carefully compare the menu and bill we receive.
