Be sure to not stay in a traditional room! Very loud mechanical noises (roaring motor and banging pipes) late evening and again early in the morning. Also there were no robes and a 1980's TV, making it very difficult room to enjoy any relaxation or rest. The dining experience was the most positive part of our stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Really comfortable and in a beautiful setting. Pleasant staff and had a nice evening meal. Was well located to see that part of Canada.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
In the past I have stayed in a suite. I found the standard room disappointing. The air conditioner was extremely noisy and the room faced an alley where staff smoked. The steak which was ordered for dinner was well done - not medium well; however we were given a dessert - no charge.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hot Tub not hot enough and needed some repair. No towels available. Terrace room was great. Breakfast Buffet was excellent and server very attentive. Front Desk moral is down and needs improvement. We arrived on Monday afternoon for a three night stay and our room was upgraded to a suite What a nice surprise. We stayed in the honeymoon suite. Prettiest and largest suite we ever experienced ( we have stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels ). The room has a lovely balcony overlooking the water and we watched 2 mink, fishing and play in the water every morning. Although the restaurant is expensive, the food was delicious. "Very nice Muscoka get away"
The staff was very friendly, and the service in the dining room was great. We stayed in the King size room on the 2nd floor, beautiful room, except there was no door on the closet and no table by the chairs and sofa. The hand shower was leaking. There is a nice little beach on the grounds, but very hard to get in due to stones etc. They have several […] docs there, why not putting a little later on the dock to get in and out????? "Less Than Expected"
Arrived, confirmed spa appointment and dinner reservation with front desk when checking in. Room nice, however, no refrigerator, difficult to keep a bottle of wine cool while having to take an elevator to the 2nd floor for ice. The bathtub drain was plugged. On 2nd day, stopped by spa to confirm arrival and was informed that appointment (which was booked […] by phone directly with spa) did not include couples massage as booked. Ultimately, spa personnel were able to accomadate after some juggling, however, not with RMT so they refunded one of the couples massages. Later that evening, arrived for dinner only to find no reservation, (this after confirming with front desk upon arrival the day before) Server was able to seat us in restaurant that had only four tables being used ????? Dinner arrived, and sirloin steak cooked extremely well done, not medium rare as ordered, had to return to kitchen and we ended up eating our meals seperately. Refunded steak dinner as well. Ultimately, will not go back. Although refunds of spa and dinner were prompt, I would have preferred they get it right the first time. Dissapointed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I booked our room at Christies Mill after reading the reviews for the Inn. My husband and I were looking for a nice place to stay after a trip to the cottage to see how it was holding up with all the snow. The cottage is not winterized so we were treating ourselves to a 'night out' instead of coming back to the city. I booked the room on expedia for […] a fairly reasonable rate, though higher than other hotels in the area. From the pictures I saw, I thought we would be able to sit back in our room and take in some winter scenery. Unfortunately, our room had one small window that faced the roof line and had absolutely no view. This is really unfortunate considering we were at an Inn in northern Ontario and not a hotel in Manhattan. It was sort of depressing. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice, a little pricey for such small rooms."
Staff was pleasant, the interior public areas are nice. The exterior needs attention due to peeling paint and ugly materials. The rooms were quite a bit smaller then I am used to for the price. Overall though, a nice hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not what I expected"
I would recommend the Inn depending on the accommodation. We went to celebrate my birthday and based on what I had seen on the internet & website I was quite excited to go because it look really nice. The Inn itself is lovely and the grounds & view beautiful, however our room seemed to be in an older (or perhaps not updated) part. Our room was quite […] small, the carpet was worn & looked dirty, the drapes looked old and one of the bedside lamps was plugged into a power cord outlet that ran across the corner of the room. The hallway was rather dark and the outside looked like it could use some TLC. I think we were put into that part of the Inn because we had our dog with us and that must be the "pet friendly" part. The other wing of the Inn that had rooms was much nicer, the halls were bright and looked newer. The rooms looked much nicer too from what I could see from the outside. We didn't use the pool or spa, but we did eat in the dining room and the food was very good. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Because of my disappointment with the room I can only say my stay here was ok. My advice would be to find out exactly where you will be staying if you decide to go here. I only wished we could have stayed longer!! The room we stayed in (lake view with balcony suite) was amazing, tranquil view, fireplace was cozy and bed was to die for.. I don't remember the last time I had such a comfy wonderful sleep!! Had spa services which was exceptional and Both Dinner and Brunch (just stayed sat night). Food was amazing! It was […] a bit cooler so didn't really get out and about much but would have been nice to maybe see a few lit outdoor fireplaces outside in the evening. Another suggestion would have been maybe to of had complimentary Coffee and Tea and maybe a newspaper in the morning.. Just to tie the early riser over till Brunch. I took full advantage of a sleep in but Hubby was up early with nothing to read or drink. Overall a wonderful escape from the craziness of my day to day chaos.. Will Def be back.. The standard room I was given had a nice soft bed which I love but there was no comfortable chair or sofa to sit in. I was most disappointed with the TV. It was small, outdated and had only one station worth watching "OLN", the other few stations were weather, news and sports. The picture quality was bad and not even a remote. The window AC kept making […] loud popping noises and woke me up a few times so I ended up just shutting it off. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I found the accommodations a bit dated, but we were also in a standard room on the parking lot side, so the upgraded rooms on the lake side may have been nicer. Otherwise, not a thing to complain about. The staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating, even though I had to change around several spa appointments and a dinner reservation due to my […] own poor planning. "Not what is used to be!!"
I have stayed here on numerous occasions in the past and had a great experience. However, after my last experience I Will not be returning. In previous visits I have always gone with family (mom or sister) or friends and have always had a great time. So my husband decided to take me for my birthday. Due to our busy lives he bought me a gift certificate . I booked a mill room as well as booked a revival package for me and a massage with a rmt for my husband. Upon our arrival the check in was ok except for the front desk being a little rude at the fact I hadn't told them I had a gift certificate when I booked. We checked in went to out room then headed to the spa. Upon getting to the spa we were told no rmt was available so my husband's massage was going to be with an estictian. A little frustrating since we have coverage for rmt with work. The lady told us she tried to call however called an old number (I advised them of my new number when I booked). We then headed to dinner which was great. The restaurant has delicious meals however small portions. After dinner we decided to have a jacuzzi bath. After the bath the water would not drain .... i called the front desk and they said it's slow give it time. 20 min later it hadn't moved I called back to front desk. Their solution.... switch rooms (it was 11pm). I advised I wasn't interested in that due to the late time they said that we can use the showers at the spa in the morning. I advised I wasn't ok with that so they said to call in morning and they wold let us use another room in the morning to shower. In the morning i called and front desk said to walk down and they woild give me a key. I requested they bring it to us as we were still awaiting showers and not dressed. Further our room had garbage on the floor... bottle lid from water bottle and a bread tab?? Never did anyone ever offer to come look at the drain or attempt to fix it. For one night in a mill room with dinner and breakfast as well as my revival package and my husband's massage came to over 800!!! I was so upset with the complete lack of service when spending 800 a night I called a couple days later once I had calmed down and explained my frustration to the manager. He seemed apologetic and said he wanted to make it up to me regarding my experience however that was over two weeks ago and haven't heard a thing back. He said it would be a couple days. My husband was as disappointed as I was and will not be returning.... the inn was bought a few years ago by a new owner so maybe that has something to do with it. My advice ... for 800 a night you can get a way better experience and better service elsewhere! !!!!

We bought a weekend getaway via Travelzoo and were very pleasantly surprised with this Inn. It is beautifully situated and is very close to Toronto. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. Service was excellent and the trails nearby are great for hikes, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The only disappointment was the spa. Not organized or punctual and open at irregular hours. We did complain to the management. As an aside, the spa is operated by a separate group and is just housed in the Inn. Plan to go back in the winter.
"Great deal if a wag jag or such"
11/11/14 funtimetraveler_10 Oshawa, Canada
Had a good time. Nice location on the water with a patio and small deck facing the water. The chairs on the deck were uncomfortable and would recommend you bring your own lounge or chairs to be comfortable if sitting out next to the water to take full advantage if a warm and sunny day. Breakfast was buffet and had a cheaper feel to it( tasteless bacon, plastic tasting French toast, rubber scrambled eggs, very limited choice of other food and slow service with the coffee refills). The restaurant itself is nice as it it has an expansive view of the water. Very nice!! And the staff were very pleasant. Parking was convenient. Check in and out was easy too. Very quiet and relaxing for a weekend get away and the message left you feeling loose and just like it should . It was wonderful. To pay full price however would have upset me, and this is a girl who loves to camp, so not overly fussy, but to pay full price for the facility and food would have felt like a rip off: okay if getting a coupon or price break for an online discount site.

My wife and I were burned out and needed a weekend getaway in August, high season for Muskoka hotels and quite pricey. I'm surprised to read all the WagJag reviews--good on you guys for getting a deal. We stayed in the old side and the decor lived up to the billing, a clean room but shabby and worn. We did ask for a quiet room, however, and the hotel followed through, which we appreciated. It's not a bad place. A little rundown, a little short-staffed. They tried hard at breakfast and the water was nice. You've got a mixed clientele. One yachter pulled up to the dock and blasted Led Zeppelin. Other guests leave their cigarette butts all around the dock (note to staff: clean the dock and rake the beach in the morning; swimmers like me really appreciate it). I tend to cut places like this some slack, as they're hardly luxury hotels, whereas my wife and I had a disastrous dinner at the Rawley Resort up the road, which I'm willing to be harder on because of their pretense to luxury. To me, this kind of place would be great if you've got a couple toddlers and just want to let the kids run wild. But go on WagJag, I guess. You'll feel better about the price.

I was extremely disappointed with our recent stay at Christie's Mill. We were at the inn for October 10th to the 12th for a family wedding. We experienced numerous issues with our stay: Reservation Due to the size of our family (2 adults and 3 children, one of them being a new born), there were rooms that would not fit our requirements. When we were looking at the website, we noted that a 3 bedroom cottage was available. We opted to select this for our reservation and added our parents to stay in the third room. When attempting to book this room, which was available, we were notified that we would need to book the cottage for 3 nights. This of course was not required. Through the negotiations of the bride and wedding coordinator, we were advised that we could book the cottage for 2 nights. We called and requested to book the Saturday and Sunday night. We were told that wasn't possible. I asked for an exception and I was advised that someone would call me back and be provided with a confirmation and what we could book. 2 weeks prior to the wedding weekend, we realized that we did not have a confirmation number and when we called, we were told that our reservation was for the Friday and Saturday night. I was advised that we probably hadn't received a confirmation because "the computer that held that information was erased over the summer." To get the most value from the cost of our stay, I had to book a half a days off of work to drive up to the inn on the Friday. After expressing my concerns to the "manager", there was never any attempt to make things right prior to our stay. The cottage We were extremely disappointed with the up keep of the cottage. There were cobwebs in the bathroom and dead bugs in the light fixture in the ceiling fan in the kitchen. Anytime we had used many appliances (toaster) and lights in the kitchen, the fuse breaker flipped off. There was exposed wires in one of the bedrooms and dangerously placed power cords and power bars throughout the cottage. The one bedroom where the children were sleeping did not have a working baseboard heater. When mentioned to the front desk after the first night we were promised it would be looked at. Nothing was changed and the kids' room was cold for the second night. We were not advised that we would not have maid service. I did request new towels and the garbage emptied which was full filled. The pool The same lack of care and concern with the cottage carried over into the pool area. There were dead and live spiders around the pool. There were no towels available at the pool. We mentioned it numerous times to the staff in the spa. The staff member mentioned they were being washed and recommended retrieving our own towels from our room. The staff member brought us an umbrella to go to our cottage instead of retrieving other towels for us to use. Overall At $325 a night, this was not the experience I was expecting. The lack of attention to cleanliness, safety and service was apparent everywhere. This lack of care translates to disrespect to the guests. I have stayed in other resorts and inns where there was a higher attention to all of the things above and the price was considerably lower. I did mention my concerns to the front desk staff, only to be offered the weekday rate, a measly $50 off the nightly rate we paid. There seems to be a lack of communication between all staff at the Inn. The wedding coordinator attempted to provide most of the same amenities to individuals staying in regular rooms, but there was no confirmation of we what actually received (e.g. Breakfast on the Saturday morning). The only reason why I am rating this inn as a "poor" is because the bridal sweet was very nice, but the same standard of care in that room should carry over to all rooms in the inn. We will never stay there again!

Just got back from 2 night stay at Christie's Mill and had a lovely time. We had a water view suite with a nice king size bed. The room was large and for the most part nicely decorated. The view from the room was wonderful, with nice fall colours across the lake. Being on the ground does mean people walking around the grounds can see into your room. Wasn't a big deal for us. It was too cool to sit outside and we were out most of the day. The food in the restaurant was very good for breakfast and dinner. We did have dinner one night at the Dam Restaurant (it was very good as well). The staff was friendly and polite. The service for dinner was prompt, hot and very tasty! We enjoyed our treatment at the spa. The people at the spa were friendly enough. I wasn't there to chit chat. We used the pool and hot tub and enjoyed both. We went on a Travelzoo deal and it was well worth it! There is not much to do right in the area, but you are 20 to 30 minute drive to lots of tourists sites. I would strongly recommend Saint Marie Among the Huron.

Did a girls trip to Christie's mill in October 2013, was an awesome experience which is why we purchased a travelzoo coupon and came again this October. This time around we felt that the service was below par....The people in the spa don't even smile or say hello or ask how your stay is or if you enjoyed the pool, just didn't get the overall friendly feeling. The dinner choices were limited....One of us ordered the steak which did not come cooked properly was very chewy and we had to send it back, we asked for a substitute of vegetables and potatoes with the other rib meal but felt like we were a bother for asking. By the time the second steak dinner came one of us was already finished eating so the other person basically ate dinner by themselves. We didn't get any offer of a discount off the bill until we went back for breakfast in the morning and then the waiter said he was giving us 20% off one dinner which equaled out to about $4 discount. I guess it was better than nothing but still don't feel it was satisfactory. The pool was very cold and the hot tub was warm. Upon checkout we got the wrong bill we were charged for two nights and a $50 upgrade which we were told on the phone was actually a $20 upgrade. Took them a while to figure out the real Bill....and I was upset that they said they told us $50 on the phone for the upgrade, when I have a piece of paper at home that I wrote down 20 ...we never would've upgraded for $50 that was the whole point of getting the travel zoo deal, to have a fairly inexpensive getaway. Not an overall great experience. Such a shame because last year we raved to everyone about this place now I would never go back and I wouldn't recommend it.

We reserved some time ago for our fall colour tour and requested a room on 2nd floor We arrived yesterday. The grounds are well maintained and the location close to the water is impressive.Reception was friendly. We were given our room key and were disappointed to discover we had a walkout on the ground floor. However,it was a lovely room with a fireplace and large jacuzzi tub and a lovely water view. We were not told where to get ice - turned out it was on the 2nd floor. There is a spa ,hot tub and indoor pool which we didn't have time to take advantage of.The Inn is a short walk to lock45 on the Trent/Severn waterway and we chatted with a couple waiting to lock their catamaran through on their way to L Ont. the Erie Canal, the Hudson R.and Florida!! An unexpected pleasure! Our dinner experience was just O.K. Service was slow. There was limited choice of wine especially by the glass and there was no bread to enjoy with the wine during the long wait. Our hot and crispy spring rolls were attractively served with a lovely Thai dipping sauce. At $30,my " stuffed zucchini" & rice (2 slices of grilled zucchini on the plate with rice in between) plus a grilled Cuban lobster tail seemed too little for too much.My husband found one of his 2 lobster tails overcooked with the meat stuck to the shell. When he asked for a pick, all the server could offer was a steak knife! The view over the water is lovely, ringing cell phone not so much. Our rate included breakfast and dinner but dinner was an$80 credit -an appetizer, entree and dessert for 2 is almost certainly going to be more here .Breakfast is buffet and has sufficient choice altho' we are always looking for no added sugar items ( e.g. yogurt).Classy resorts should offer real maple syrup for their pancakes - not Aunt Jemima! Lastly,There was a continuous annoying hum in the hallway that was audible in our room. Fixing up the little things could make this a 1st rate resort.

We visited this Inn for a special anniversary getaway. Talk about disappointment. I did mention during booking, it was our anniversary and if at all possible one of the "nicer" rooms, with a view, would be appreciated. That was our first disappointment. Our room was next to the staircase which was extremely loud, walls are super thin. We listened to a baby cry for the majority of our stay. Not the baby's fault at all. Just noting how you can hear a pin drop or the toilet flush in the neighboring rooms. No view at all, we were at the back of the property. Dinner was a disaster. We had 7:45 reservations. It took 40 minutes to receive our drinks and 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive our apps. We were not the only ones who waited this long, and we took note of others around us complaining as well. When our appetizers did come, my husbands was wrong. At that point we complained. And not offered anything other then, we are really busy. Once our dinner arrived, I will admit it was decent enough. The buffet in the morning was plentiful, and the service was better, considering there was one lady running the show. She certainly did her best and apologized off the bat for being under staffed. During check out, I voiced my disappointment and it was suggested, when I come back to get a suite. Its quieter, and more private. Really? She was quick to did point out,it was more expensive though. My reply was no thanks.
"Value for a WagJag Deal"
09/16/14 Annabelle T Sarnia, Canada
I booked this trip for an Anniversary trip. I did not want to pay the overpriced rates at some of the other Ontario Resorts ($300+ a night) so saw this deal and thought it was value for money. The Hotel was just that, value for the price we paid. If I had paid full price I might have been disappointed. I upgraded to a King size bed which turned out to be in the old part of the hotel. It was worth the extra $25 a night for the larger bed which was very comfy. We also had our own private terrace (room 217). The older part of the hotel needs some TLC. Carpets need to be replaced and some modern amenities need to be put in the rooms, e.g. flat screen TVs as we had an old portable Tube TV. The bathrooms also needed a refresh. We ate in the restaurant there both nights for convenience sake. We stayed Saturday and Sunday and on the Saturday night the restaurant was busy. We had booked a table in advance but the wait staff could not hide their stress on how to manage the volume of guests and the kitchen did get backed up. The wait staff could also do with some customer service tips (e.g greeting guests and making conversation). On Saturday we sent an appetizer back to the kitchen as it was cold and I had to do the same with my Prime Rib on the Sunday (even though the restaurant was not that busy on this night). Breakfast that came with the package was good. Anyhow, minor details. This Inn could be Four star with some upgrades and customer service training. As mentioned for a Wagjag package this was an OK value. I didn't pay a very high price so didn't have too high expectations.
