"Okay but not impressed"
The hotel receptionists are not very friendly. They always seemed bothered when I asked questions. The bar/ restaurant guys and the night security guy were super-nice and helpful. The wifi connection was very poor. The hotel is on the route between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, conveniently located (rides on the bus are about 50 cents a person, they give […] you change when you pay on the bus). The area is touristy and very expensive, we went to the beach in Manuel Antonio and to dinner in Quepos (at local establishments, called "Soda"s) so the bus was very convenient (it arrives every 20-30 minutes on a precise schedule). The pool at the hotel was okay but for the pool on our side of the building the lights were broken so at night the area was dark. Which is romantic except it attracted bats and cockroaches. The rooms were okay (A/C but otherwise not impressive, I wish we had a small fridge in the room). The bathrooms were clean and the cleaning lady (Bianca, I believe) was great! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Unique hotel near Manuel Antonio"
Enjoyed our stay. Titi monkeys surrounded us while at the pool. Access to park by car or bus. AC works but is very loud. Slow but friendly service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We had reservations for 2 rooms 3pax each, with full kichinette.... what we got.... 2 rooms for 2pax no kichinette.... As we were 6...and we need the kitchen.. we asked for the exact product we purchased... we received a TOWER building, 3 levels by stairs, with 3 double beds, and a full kichinette. As we planned to stay just one night, was enough […] to survive one night...but.. when we got a shower... surprise!!!! ...water come out from the down bathroom... full... imagine (3 women shouting!!) "Hotel Mono Azul"
The hotel was nice. The area is older and you can tell by the hotels and restaurant. The hotel could use a few updates but it was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and I was able to use colones and dollars with out a problem.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Blue Monkey- Bad? No need for a spanking here"
The Blue Monkey is a nice place to stay for the money, you must understand if you are paying a discounted price you should NOT expect Los Suenos or Riu Palace. We live in both the United States and in Costa Rica. The hotel is nice, the staff is average and the location is ok- its closer to Quepos than Manuel Antonio. We were looking for an inexpensive […] location for a nice weekend at the beach- this is the best fit. We had a great time here at the hotel, and everything worked. To the traveler considering this hotel- request a room across the street from the main lobby, we stayed in room 1A with a Kitchen. (I think the rooms were 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B) This area of the hotel has its own private gated entrance and private pool for maybe 6 rooms- in essence we had our own private pool at night. We were quiet and were in the pool after midnight- no one noticed. There was no additional cost for rooms on this side. Setting expectations is key- based on our criteria we would stay at this hotel for a weekend in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The staff here were amazingly friendly and helpful. The rooms were kept clean. It was unfortunate that the breakfast was not included as it was pricy for what it was. It was very easy to catch a bus to either Manuel Antonio or Quepos as nothing was really within walking distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, quiet hotel!"
This hotel was wonderful, we had our own little villa that included a kitchen which really saved us some money! It was tucked into the jungle a bit so we had great privacy! A little bit far from Manuel Antonio but with cheap taxis all was good!Genuine Expedia guest review
we paid for a hotel 4 stars on the internet and found ourself in a low old hotel in no were between emanuel antonio and capos, withe eclectic fournitures, breakfeast not included, low management and a staff that cannot change the situation, a kind of "delaisser".Genuine Expedia guest review
Rooms are not well maintained, air conditioners are ancient and so loud you can't sleep with them on, a giant cockroach crawled into bed with me as soon as I turned the lights off - not worth the $50 price tag at all. The one good thing is that it's located between Quepos town and Manuel Antonio Park.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Musty and damp during the rainy season"
The hotel was right off the main road leading to Manuel Antonio National Park. We went during the rainy season and the room was musty and felt damp. Everyone was friendly and the service was good, its just an older hotel with an old smell to it. Breakfast is not included and the wi-fi was so weak we never were able to get connected, even in the lobby. […] It was close enough to the park, but if we were to go again, we would pick a hotel within walking distance of the park entrance so we wont have to pay for parking to enter the park. "Great Stay while Supporting a Good Cause"
We had a great stay at Mono Azul. The hotel is big with 3 pools. Rooms are very spacious, clean, and the location of the hotel is right beside the bus stop on the main road between Quespos and Manuel Antonio. It is very easy to get to the national park and town (it comes often the bus very early and late into the night). The hotel service was helpful […] and very friendly. One of my favourite parts of Mono Azul is that it supports an organization called Kids Saving the Rain Forest and a portion of the costs of the accommodation goes towards a good cause. "Humedad y desatendido."
BUEN PRECIO, BUENA CALIDAD"
EL HOTEL ESTA BIEN UBICADO, SU MANTENIMIENTO ES BUENO, LAS CAMAS ESTAN ACEPTABLES, ES UN TIPICO HOTEL DE LA ZONA RODEADO DE NATURALEZA. EL PERSONAL MUY AMABLE Y ATENTO. TIENE DOS PISCINAS ESO LE GUSTO A LOS NIÑOS. LA RELACION CALIDAD PRECIO ES MUY BUENA. LA RECOMENDACION ES QUE CAMBIEN LOS EQUIPOS DE AIRE POR QUE YA ESTAN VIEJOS Y HACEN RUIDO.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Traquilo, acogedor. Lo malo es que aplicaron el cobro de la estadía dos veces a mi tarjeta de crédito y ahora tengo que pasar por un tedioso proceso de recuperación de ese dinero.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

For area and price a good deal. Rooms are a bit tiered and AC really loud. Nice common area. Breakfast is not included.

Personale educato. "The Blue Monkey has character"
07/14/14 Lori119 Huntington Beach, California
My sister and I stayed here at the Blue Monkey (Mono Azul) for a week in Quepos and were quite happy there. Chip and Jennifer the owners were very friendly and helpful in many ways. Because the weather was more humid than we had anticipated, we switched to an air-conditioned room. It was spacious and away from traffic sounds. We ate breakfast in the open air dining area every day. The food was delicious, the people were friendly and helpful. Since it was the rainy season, the price was exceptionally good.
"Clean, economical, safe, good food, friendly staff"
07/14/14 Lisa O Odenton, Maryland
The Blue Monkey Hotel was very economical, clean, and safe. Be sure to ask for an air conditioned room if hot, humid climates are uncomfortable to you. The owners Chip and Jennifer were very friendly and helpful. The staff was also. You can book tours, taxis, etc. and get advice at the front desk. The food was really good and reasonably priced.
"Nice people run this hotel"

Very impressed with the staff, most speak better English than my Spanish! Rooms are very clean, dated to USA standards. But very clean! Best nights sleep in two weeks! We will return next trip! Beware when looking for this motel.
"Great no-Frills hotel--clean and strong AC"
05/19/14 Maxwell P Los Angeles, California
The hotel is simple but quite beautiful. Lots of monkeys in the trees. The Air conditioners are really powerful and the windows open to the outside to allow in air. The rooms are very clean, but simple. The staff is kind and makes a genuine effort to be helpful. The restaurant is not inexpensive but has really delicious local food- fresh fish and rice and beans...no room service, no fitness center.
"Just what I needed"
05/01/14 James S
I needed a place to relax and forget about it. THe privacy I got here was perfect. It has been a long time since I stayed here but, a week of fresh fruit, yogurt and granola breakfasts served poolside while I read my books was great. By surprise I got to meet some new friends that seem to gather daily in a cabana by the lower pool and it made this solo traveller seem like another expat at home here. Don't stay for the high end rooms or stellar service. Stay here in the jungle and let it go.
"Property is Blah. Staff is Indiferrent."
04/21/14 Tuxmiller Webster Groves, Missouri
Check in sucked. 3 employees and non really interested in addressing us. We did get checked in and then waited at the bar area/wandered the reception area only to realize that the woman who checked us in didn't tell us that the two other men in the area were employees. One was checking porn on his laptop; the other finally asked us if we needed something after we waited at the bar area for about 10 minutes. He was sitting in the guest area. Property is dated. Rooms are dated. Our "suite" was across the street from the main property and was reminiscent of a dirty college dorm room. That area was behind a locked gate, but the glass back doors to each of the rooms didn't seem all that secure. Mattresses were unsatisfactory. There is a kitchenette, but it was gross. Pool are was fine. We expected more since this property was located in Quepos. Wouldn't recommend unless you're a hostel traveler looking for an "upgrade" from the bunkhouse scene.

Clean rooms friendly people. We ate at the restaurant and the food was decent. My principal disappointment was to book online and arrive to see a big sign at the entrance saying "Deep Discounts - Name Your Own Price, Welcome!" and then not be offered any discount on the full retail I paid online. I was told I needed to speak to the owner who wasn't around. An email got no response.
"Okay place in an pricey area"
03/27/14 Buburuza1979 San Francisco, California
We got this through Expedia. The room was okay - clean, simple, nothing to brag about. The tub looked old and a bit stained but the cleaning lady did a good job cleaning it every day (we showered after going to the beach so we left a lot of sand behind). Had AC but no fridge (so I could not store the milk for my infant son). The bartender was kind enough to give me a cup of fresh milk one evening, and to store a carton of milk the next evening in their fridge (so that my kid could have his milk in the mornings and evenings). The free Wifi connection advertised was terrible - such that many guests hung out by the reception with their computers to connect. The pool by our building was technically open late but the light fixtures were broken so we'd hear (and see) cockroaches, lizards, and (maybe?) bats on the roof while we cooled off in the evening; I think the light may have kept them away (or at least we'd see what was going on). We were placed on the second floor despite the fact that we were travelling with a (walking) infant who could easily fall through the railing bars. I expected we had breakfast included but we did not. The reception personnel seemed utterly disinterested in helping customers but provided the information I requested of them timely and accurately when I insisted. They had bus schedules posted by the reception - I thought that was helpful. The location is good, especially if you're on a budget: you can go to manuel antonio for beach/ jungle and then go quickly (from the hotel) to Quepos for dinner. The overnight security guy was super nice, and woke us up for us to catch our bus, and helped us with luggage. I'd say most people working there (with the exception of some reception workers) are nice and very helpful (like many Costa Ricans we met) but the hotel is not in a great condition overall - I don't know if there are better options in the area.
"no customer service at all"
03/24/14 Heredia2010 houstoon
On Feb 21st we booked 2 rooms paid through Expedia for one night to see to famous sunset in Manuel Antonio, which we were no able to, due the problem that we encountered at the Hotel. One of us was handicapped and they have no access at all for H people. (By law in CR Hotels must have access). It was easier to say it was only one room booked and that they will help us to get other room in other hotel (about $40 more expensive). They promise us not to charge for both rooms but Expedia (which is other site better not to use to book hotels) said that Mono Azul charged for both rooms. I have tried to contact them several times and never got a reply. NO ACCESS FOR HANDICAP, VERY POOR MAINTANENCE, VERY POOR LINENS.

Some friends and I stayed here for two nights and had a great experience. We had a villa across the street from the office/restaurant. The hotel staff was friendly, the beds were comfortable, and it is in a great location. Arturo was friendly and took the time to call different zip-lining companies for the best experience. I appreciate that he took the extra time to make a few phone calls for us. The restaurant was good and the service was friendly. Everyone we interacted with was great. My only complaint is that the shower did not drain well, probably because of all the sand everyone brings up from the beach.
