"Recently bought and doing the upgrades"
The hotel will be great after the upgrades (new AC, mattresses, and replacement of outdated sinks toilets etc.) for a family or people trying to have a nice, safe place for an average price. I think that a basic breakfast of some toast and fruit should be offered free but only coffee is. The new owners are nice and helpful and committed to making the […] hotel a place of "Return". My biggest problem is that THIS SITE wants too big of a piece of pie and I had to pay way too much a night extra and there was no option to adjust my group. So, goodbye THIS SITE, you have separated yourself FROM ME. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Comfortable, friendly hotel on the bus line"
Traveling with a toddler. VERY accommodating for her needs and messes. Two little quiet pools also very young child friendly. Hop on the bus nearby to move between Quepos and Manuel Antonio and other beaches. Reasonably priced and food is pretty good. Older balconies in back are not toddler safe, but it is the quieter section.Genuine Expedia guest review
"scared off monkeys"
we were both sick & were only able to go to breakfast in the mornings to look for the monkeys that usually showed up at their dining area in the mornings . the monkeys must have heard me coughing all night long & I guess they did not want what I had the monkeys never showed up . the food was the best we had in the 14 days we were in Costa Rica .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Absolutely Loved It."
Paige and John are the new owners of the hotel as of December and were the most generous and helpful couple that we met on our trip. They helped us with everything from booking reservations to showing us around the area. The hotel is in a great location, just a five minute bus ride from Manuel Antonio and less to Quepos. The rooms are pretty basic but […] great for the price, and the rest of the staff is very friendly. I don't think we would have been happier staying in a five star hotel. "Okay but not impressed"
The hotel receptionists are not very friendly. They always seemed bothered when I asked questions. The bar/ restaurant guys and the night security guy were super-nice and helpful. The wifi connection was very poor. The hotel is on the route between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, conveniently located (rides on the bus are about 50 cents a person, they give […] you change when you pay on the bus). The area is touristy and very expensive, we went to the beach in Manuel Antonio and to dinner in Quepos (at local establishments, called "Soda"s) so the bus was very convenient (it arrives every 20-30 minutes on a precise schedule). The pool at the hotel was okay but for the pool on our side of the building the lights were broken so at night the area was dark. Which is romantic except it attracted bats and cockroaches. The rooms were okay (A/C but otherwise not impressive, I wish we had a small fridge in the room). The bathrooms were clean and the cleaning lady (Bianca, I believe) was great! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel was nice. The area is older and you can tell by the hotels and restaurant. The hotel could use a few updates but it was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and I was able to use colones and dollars with out a problem.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Blue Monkey- Bad? No need for a spanking here"
The Blue Monkey is a nice place to stay for the money, you must understand if you are paying a discounted price you should NOT expect Los Suenos or Riu Palace. We live in both the United States and in Costa Rica. The hotel is nice, the staff is average and the location is ok- its closer to Quepos than Manuel Antonio. We were looking for an inexpensive […] location for a nice weekend at the beach- this is the best fit. We had a great time here at the hotel, and everything worked. To the traveler considering this hotel- request a room across the street from the main lobby, we stayed in room 1A with a Kitchen. (I think the rooms were 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B) This area of the hotel has its own private gated entrance and private pool for maybe 6 rooms- in essence we had our own private pool at night. We were quiet and were in the pool after midnight- no one noticed. There was no additional cost for rooms on this side. Setting expectations is key- based on our criteria we would stay at this hotel for a weekend in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The staff here were amazingly friendly and helpful. The rooms were kept clean. It was unfortunate that the breakfast was not included as it was pricy for what it was. It was very easy to catch a bus to either Manuel Antonio or Quepos as nothing was really within walking distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, quiet hotel!"
This hotel was wonderful, we had our own little villa that included a kitchen which really saved us some money! It was tucked into the jungle a bit so we had great privacy! A little bit far from Manuel Antonio but with cheap taxis all was good!Genuine Expedia guest review
we paid for a hotel 4 stars on the internet and found ourself in a low old hotel in no were between emanuel antonio and capos, withe eclectic fournitures, breakfeast not included, low management and a staff that cannot change the situation, a kind of "delaisser".Genuine Expedia guest review
Rooms are not well maintained, air conditioners are ancient and so loud you can't sleep with them on, a giant cockroach crawled into bed with me as soon as I turned the lights off - not worth the $50 price tag at all. The one good thing is that it's located between Quepos town and Manuel Antonio Park.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Musty and damp during the rainy season"
The hotel was right off the main road leading to Manuel Antonio National Park. We went during the rainy season and the room was musty and felt damp. Everyone was friendly and the service was good, its just an older hotel with an old smell to it. Breakfast is not included and the wi-fi was so weak we never were able to get connected, even in the lobby. […] It was close enough to the park, but if we were to go again, we would pick a hotel within walking distance of the park entrance so we wont have to pay for parking to enter the park. "Great Stay while Supporting a Good Cause"
We had a great stay at Mono Azul. The hotel is big with 3 pools. Rooms are very spacious, clean, and the location of the hotel is right beside the bus stop on the main road between Quespos and Manuel Antonio. It is very easy to get to the national park and town (it comes often the bus very early and late into the night). The hotel service was helpful […] and very friendly. One of my favourite parts of Mono Azul is that it supports an organization called Kids Saving the Rain Forest and a portion of the costs of the accommodation goes towards a good cause.

BUEN PRECIO, BUENA CALIDAD"
EL HOTEL ESTA BIEN UBICADO, SU MANTENIMIENTO ES BUENO, LAS CAMAS ESTAN ACEPTABLES, ES UN TIPICO HOTEL DE LA ZONA RODEADO DE NATURALEZA. EL PERSONAL MUY AMABLE Y ATENTO. TIENE DOS PISCINAS ESO LE GUSTO A LOS NIÑOS. LA RELACION CALIDAD PRECIO ES MUY BUENA. LA RECOMENDACION ES QUE CAMBIEN LOS EQUIPOS DE AIRE POR QUE YA ESTAN VIEJOS Y HACEN RUIDO.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Personale educato. "best restaurant in Manuel Antonio"
04/28/15 john h New Cumberland, Pennsylvania
The Mono Azul is the best place to eat in this area. They have a first class chef who makes the best food(especially the steak). The service & food are fantastic and the staff if very friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable. The owners(Scott & Paige) are so helpful & will assist you if you have any questions about the area. I would highly recommend the Manuel Azul. By the way, there is also a hotel her & the grounds are beautiful.
"Loved Our Stay"
04/20/15 Danielle F
This isn't a 5 start resort with a million amenities by any means; but it's clean, the rooms are good sized, and the staff is wonderful. The property is beautiful as it's nestled in the trees, and the two pools were a perfect place to relax for us each day. It's centrally located between Quepos and the Manuel Antonio beach and national park with a bus stop right outside the door. Only 315 colones to go in either direction, or you can take a directivo taxi for about 500 colones. We very much enjoyed the pool table, and ate breakfast and got desert at the restaurant on site each day we were there. We ate lunch and dinner there once also. The food was always good. Paige and Scott the new owners, we're always there and helpful. Paige recommended several activities and restaurants for us to try that all ended up being great. I feel awful for not being able to remember the names of the two men that worked the front desk and restaurant, but they were both always wonderful also. They helped set up several of our tours, so we were able to be picked up right at the hotel. It was also nice that when we are at the restaurant, we never had to worry about getting money out every time. We were able to pay it all together at the end of our stay. It was a wonderfully relaxing vacation for us, and we fell in love with Manuel Antonio. We were very sad to leave. Although our beds were a bit lumpy, and our bathroom door didn't close at all, it was still a very comfy room. The cleaning staff was always in and out before we noticed, and never once touched any of our personal belongings. The AC was nice and cool, which was always nice to come back to after being out in the heat of Costa Rica. Our room was nice and quiet also. The only noise was when the squirrel monkeys were playing on our roof, or the iguanas were running around across it. It was great to sit outside and watch the monkeys all around you. The resident calico cat was always there to greet you in the restaurant or at the front desk too. Overall a very great place to stay if you plan on just using your room to sleep and shower. Highly recommend.
"A Good option for relaxation and security"
04/15/15 Ligia C
Warm, very clean and secure. Restaurant has an excelent chef. The swiming pools are really fresh, and while you swim, you can spot monkeys and birds -like tucans- relaxing. Some details could be improved in the general apearance of the gardens and building, but new owners are working hard on that. Good people everywhere! Good option if you travel by yourself.
"Wonderful People + Pool"
04/05/15 Lc H
The accommodations are pretty basic, but with an all day restaurant, clean pool and quick access to the bus stop, you probably won't spend much time in your room. I had a large room, there's no air conditioning or electronics, but it was kept very clean and was cool at night. The owner and staff were so kind and helpful, teaching me to use the bus and providing helpful recommendations for navigating the area. It was very safe and quiet in the evenings.
"Good value in Manuel Antonio"
03/31/15 beadybrt bc
The new owners of Mono Azul and their staff were always very friendly and helpful with information about the area. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. Some have AC, some have fan only, but we found our fan room cooled down enough at night to get a good rest. There are two nice little pools on the property, and sometimes spider monkeys make an appearance in the trees around it.
"A nice place with potential"
Our first two nights here weren't great... We had booked a standard room and it was extremely hot, there wasn't any glass on the window that was nearest the road so it was very loud and we didn't have any hot water. For $65/night we thought this was overpriced, compared to other places we have stayed. However the last two nights we loved to one of the bigger rooms, as we just needed to sleep after two nights of hot and noisy nights, and it was MUCH better. I guess you get what you pay for but then the room was big, very clean, brand new air con and the only noisy that work us were the monkeys on our roof in the morning. The owners did their best to help us and explained the place is going through some changes and improvements so I'm sure if we went back in a few months it would be better overall. We only ate once at the restaurant, for breakfast, but wasn't impressed at all so went out for each meal and it's really easy to get around and some lovely places not too far away. The location of the hotel is good. Overall it wasn't a great stay, but certainly far from the worse either.
"Monkeys at the doorstep"
03/27/15 Jackie499 Toronto, Canada
My two children, 8 and 10, stayed here over March break. Paige and Scott, the owners, are always present, very friendly and accommodating. Monkeys played on the roof, to my kids' delight. The pools provided hours of fun. Staff are friendly, food is good. Centrally located between Quepos and the beach, with easy access by bus right outside the door, $1 each way.
This is small quiet hotel in the heart of Quepos with a great location to get to all the attractions. The staff is awesome and very well connected to all the locals to get you on all the best attractions. They have a great restaurant with good food. The owners are new and making lots of improvements to the hotel.
"COMFORT AND SERENE"
03/21/15 Carlitos642013 New Orleans, Louisiana
Very comfortable, wonderful staff, great pools, saw a sloth, monkeys and a hummingbird. Befriended most of the staff, if you need extra towels, just ask, I rented a car, however the hotel is on the bus route, inexpensive, every 10 minutes.
"Comfortable and Convenient"
03/20/15 Bob M Venice, Florida
My wife and I stayed here for two nights while visiting Parc Manuel Antonio. We found the hotel to be comfortable and convenient. It has a decent restaurant where we ate breakfast two days and dinner one evening. There are two pools on site. The rooms are basic, though not glamorous, which is fine for those interested in the nearby national park and its nature attractions. A good location for visitors to the area.
