"Good value for the money"
The hotel is about half way between the town of Quepos and Manuel Antonio National park. I feel it is a good value for the money. The rooms were clean, as was the pool. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We had drinks and dinner our last night there. The drinks were excellent ( they actually contained alcohol as compared to the 2 for 1 drinks […] advertised in various parts of Costa Rica). The dinner was fantastic. The Gorgonzola cheese was incredibly fresh and delicious. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hotel with a lot of character"
Had a great two day stay. Would have been better had we had a car, but the bus did stop right in front of the hotel so we were able to get to the beach. The restaurant was fabulous!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nearby the Manuel Antonios Park - Not very clean"

"Good price close to manuel Antonio"
Hotel was a good deal in an area where hotels were surprisingly expensive. Restaurant has incredible food!! Highly recommended even if you do not stay at the hotel. Rooms were fine, a bit outdated and nothing fancy. Good for budget travelers. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel for getting to the national park and beach which was very conve […] nient. "Typical lower price hotel, big pool, good food"
This hotel is cute if a little run down but all hotels in Costa Rica seem to be unless you are willing to spend the big bucks. The doors didn't close weathertight but again that was my experience with all hotels in CR. Our room was small but had everything we needed - 2 double beds, a TV, awesome A/C, and a bathroom. The sink was in the main room and […] had a nice big vanity which we used for storage. The bathroom itself just had the toilet and shower. The food at the restaurant was excellent. We ate breakfast there every day (included in the price) and also dinner one night. The pool is a good size and we enjoyed it every day. The hotel staff was helpful and accommodating when we needed something. The location is between the National Park and Quepos. I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Okay for a night but there are better"
We stayed for one night. My wife was very impressed with the Chef who worked at the restaurant in the evenings but beyond that we had very little good to say about this hotel. The hotel charges prices as if it is much nicer than it really is. The owner who works the front desk during the day didn't bother to change from shorts and a cutoff T-shirt while […] attending customers at the restaurant while the staff looked very professional - very low class. All of the other Costa Rica hotels really made us feel welcome when we arrived - couldn't say the same about this one. Low-light for our 11 day trip. Skip it. We were glad it was only one night. "Nice place close to the beach and the city."
We check in late but reservation and everything was ok the breakfast was small but good.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was quiet and OK for a night, but owner did not make me feel welcomed. He was more concerned that I returned the remotes to TV and AC in the morning than helping daughter and I take our luggage up flight of stairs or giving us wifi password. Also, at breakfast (which they didn't start prepping until 7:00) the workers made food for themselves before […] offering us anything. We had to make own toast. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and staff."
This is a rustic hotel, not the ritz. It fits in the jungle well as the ritz would not. So if you want to experience Costa Rica in a clean hotel with a friendly staff, and good food, stay here. You cannot find a better deal. If you going be out seeing Costa Rica, this is the place to stay. If you plan to hide in your room and at your hotel, this not […] the place to stay. "okay, not in a walkable location"
The "included" breakfast was very dissapointing. I really wish they would put more into it because there is not much else around the hotel in terms of dining. The road to the hotel is not suitable for walking on. Its narrow, has steep hills and motorist don't give pedestrians any room as they fly up and down. The road is also very dark at night. Besides […] that, the rooms, beds and shower was nice. Wifi was intermittent. There was some noise from a neighboring construction in the day and the hotel's bar at night, but it was usually all quiet by 11pm. The pool is large but needs repair. If I go to Manuel Antonio again, Id look for a place either in the town or on the beach. Having to catch the bus and taxis to go anywhere became a pain after a couple days. "Clean but dated"
Stayed here three nights in January 2014. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable but pillow and sheets were due for replacement. We ate dinner in Manuel Antonio each night (lots of great restaurants there), so returning to our room each night included an awkward walk past the owner seated in the hotel's restaurant.

"Charming hotel with AMAZING restaurant"
07/29/14 Rich979 London
We stayed at the Tres Banderas for three nights upon the recommendation of a tourist information chap in Samara. It is interesting to now read the reviews on trip advisor and to see the varied reviews! We would fully support the strong reviews - the accommodation is comfortable and nicely arranged around a communal pool. The balcony at the rear of the rooms overlooks jungle so you can actually get wildlife right at your doorstep. The rooms are not chic but are comfortable, clean and of a reasonable size - after all, for the price of the room what more could you expect. The bar area is very friendly and makes for a very pleasant area to unwind after a tiring day in the national park. Here you can be entertained by the owner and his son who are most welcoming. The star of the show is the restaurant - what amazing food! We are well accustomed to eating in London's finest restaurants (michellin star etc), but this place can hold its own. The food is so fresh and well flavoured it is amazing that it is not busier. NOTE that the restaurant is new and did not appear in the last review of Lonely Planet. The wine list is also very good and offer some of the best reasonably priced options that we found in Costa Rica. A very strong recommendation.
"Good breakfast, but lacking on electricity and running water"
07/09/14 Liz D Aspen, Colorado
We stumbled upon this hotel on our one night in Manuel Antonio, and were quickly lured in by the affordable price. We were, however, charged extra money to have more than two people staying in the room. When we first arrived, the bartender refused to give us any ice to bring to the room without charging us, so we dealt with warm drinks until we went to the bar. The next morning we were getting up to leave when we realized the water and the electricity had gone out, meaning no showers, flushing toilets, or air conditioning. Luckily the hotel restaurant still had water and was able to make us a nice, hot breakfast that was complimentary with the room. We heard from other guests that the electricity problem was nothing new, so we were glad to be checking out that day. I loved Manuel Antonio, but wouldn't stay at the Tres Banderas again.
"Costa Rica - amazing place, people, and location"
07/08/14 LisDavies London, United Kingdom
I was almost put off by some of the negative reviews but was so glad I ignored them. I met up with my 24 year daughter for a weeks holiday in the middle of her South American travels and this was the best place to be. We got there easily and cheaply by bus from San Jose and were greeted by Andy, who despite his perhaps initially brusque exterior is a marvellous host and had a fantastic time with us enjoying and celebrating Costa Ricas success in the World Cup! Andre, his son, couldn't do more for us, not only mixing a mean mohito but arranging trips, buses, cups of green tea and much more. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things Costa Rican and a pleasure to be with. The rooms were lovely, cleaned daily with a balcony overlooking small forestry, where I saw a monkey and some very weird birds! Breakfasts (included in the very reasonable price) were delicious; eggs, rice and beans or pancakes and fresh fruit and unlimited coffee. We swam and sunbathed in the the lovely pool daily. We really couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting/ location/ experience and if the chance arose would definitely go back The restaurant called " the Gondola" was so excellent we ate there 4 evenings!! But I will write a separate review for them !
"Room not clean, refused to refund"
06/24/14 Jonathan B Nashville, Tennessee
First, they wanted full payment at check-in, which was the only place to do this. After checking in, we killed a couple spiders on the walls. No big deal; we are in rural area. When we turned the sheets down, there was a spider in the sheets. Upon closer inspection, we found several hairs on the sheets. We refused to stay the night, but we were only given a 25% refund since the room had been used. We were also told it was impossible for the sheets to not be clean. Cool, I'll share my bad experience on the web.
"Great location and friendly staff"
06/17/14 Wesley H San Francisco, California
We had a great time at our stay in Manuel Antonio and at this hotel. Andy and Andre were excellent and very friendly, even bringing a TV into the bar for us so we could watch the World Cup opening without leaving the hotel during a storm. The hotel is in a great location, about midway between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. The restaurant was also fantastic.
"Great place and people"
06/08/14 good-your-journey Austin, Texas
This hotel is in a great location and on the Quepos/Manuel Antonio bus stop. The owner Andy and his son Andre along with the restaurant staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable people. The rooms were great, clean and reasonably priced. I had a great time here and would definitely stay again. The attached restaurant serves "incredible" food!! Also ask for Andre's tasty famous "coconut margarita"...Ha!
"Quite possibly worst hotel I have ever stayed at!"
05/21/14 Aterry2008 Phoenix, Arizona
Please do not be fooled by the 3 stars on travelocity. We have been traveling through Costa Rica for 5 days and this is our 3rd hotel. The first two were basic but nice and clean. Clean is the key word. There were stains on the sheets, pillows, and walls of Tres Banderas. The light switches appear to be covered in dirt or mold...I didn't want to get too close to render a verdict. The TV is the same way. I have traveled all over the world staying at different levels of hotels and this is by far the worst one I have ever stayed at. The mattress was saggy and the floors were filthy. There was someone else's hair all over the floor. Do not stay here! You will be sorry! Is there less than a 1 star rating?!
"A fantastically charming hotel in the heart of Manuel Antonio"
05/21/14 albe4sure Austin, Texas
First off, I'm a 3 year Hilton Gold member; so I have stayed in many a hotel (internationally). My Costa Rica trip took me on several legs: San Jose, Arenal area, Tamarindo, and finally Manuel Antonio. Hotel Tres Banderas, to me, exemplified what Costa Rican culture is, if you were to distill it and pour it into a hotel mold. The owner, Andy, was very gracious and inviting. I read some reviews that showed him in a negative light.. but if you like people who are genuine, friendly, and funny as hell, then you'll like Andy. His son was very entertaining as well, and makes damn good drinks. Put these two together and you're guaranteed to have a good time down in the restaurant/bar. Speaking of, the restaurant- Gondola (which is operated by a private party), was the best dining I had in my 9 days in Costa Rica! The food was absolutely delish; it could rival any 5 star restaurant that I have been to. The lady who owns it, runs it with her husband, who's the main chef and I cannot say enough about their cooking. Like I said, 5 stars all the way. Back to the hotel; it's not posh or stunning, but whatever it lacks in that department, it more than makes up for it in charm, warmth, and the feeling of a true Costa Rican vibe. If you want some aseptic, fake, cookie cutter lodging that you can find in any major world city; then maybe you will be a bit disappointed. But in my opinion, I found a gem of a place that truly felt "Tican" to me. I liked the architecture, the rooms, the look, fit, and finish of the place. Andy and his son were a blast to be with down in the restaurant/bar every morning or evening; and the food at Gondola was just too good to put into words. When I return to Costa Rica, especially Manuel Antonio, I will be making Hotel Tres Banderas my place to stay.
"Very bad expirience."
We arrived from La fotruna after more than 5 hours on the way and a recieved a very poor welcome by the owner's son. The rooms were located very high up the stairs and no help was offered to us. Plus the tooms were dirty and there were stains on the sheets. The breakfast was lousy and FULL OF STAINS. The owner arrived at the last day and was much nicer than his son.

Little things, the employees are so nice...wayyyy so much nicer than the owner... Who was probably trained as a policeman at some point in life .....he was constantly giving rounds....and orders.....felt like if I had taken my mom with us.....he told a family that was trying to keep their baby busy while eating by watching a video on their cell to turn the volume down.....just like that....in front of everybody....as if he was their parent or something...he is do not kids friendly.....when checking in.....told me up front to keep my kids quiet while they were in the pool....come'on!.....You are not allowed to cook inside the room....so whats the point of having a mini kitchen?
