"Service was excellent"
We thought the hotel was really clean and nicely decorated. It is in Chinatown, so yes outside smells like fish. However it is Chinatown and open markets are part of the charm. Inside did not smell at all, as many of the other reviews had said. Prosperity Dumplings is very close and they are the best dumplings we have ever had, and they are open pretty […] late. It's also really close to Little Italy. The best part was the service, they were friendly and they went out of their way to help with whatever was needed. We stayed 4 nights. "Very good Hotel"
This hotel is a great place to stay. It's just a subway ride F line to Times Square and uptown. The subway is just a lick away and the area is pretty safe. I recommend this hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sleeping on the NY Subway"
The hotel is too noisy just do to the very close location to above ground segment of the NYC subway system (bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan). They have ear plugs on the bed pillow for a reason. There is more sound management that needs to be done in this neighbor before trying to sell these rooms as Marriott. It really does a disservice to name of […] Marriott to see rooms under this name. The high noise level every 2 minutes needs to more more fully disclosed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Fairfield Inn & Suites Marriott New York Manhattan/Downtown Hello Michael, Thank you for taking the time out to review our hotel property. We apologize that your stay fell short of your expectationns. The view of the Manhattan bridge is a beauty however the subway line that runs underneath it carries a subtle rumbling. If there is anything we can do to make it up please let us know. You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively We have rooms facing away from the bridge . We would be happy to assign a room facing Pike st that's more suitable.Thank you -Harold G
The hotel is new so it is very clean. There is a slight funky smell in the elevator but it is not oppressive and it comes from the chinese grocery store nearby. We had a room with 2 queen beds and the room size was pretty decent, given it is NYC, and the bathroom was quite big too. The breakfast was great - it's a miracle to get a hot breakfast at American […] hotels so we were quite happy with it. It runs like a decent 4 star hotel that we've used in our travels all over the world. The location is great - lots of subway stops nearby. I highly recommend this hotel. "The Fairfield Inn & Suites Marriott New York"
The Fairfield Inn & Suites Marriott in New York located in Chinatown is a great location for walking and for catching the Metro lines. The hotel was clean and the staff was excellent in trying to accommodate our needs. However, we were led to believe through booking with Expedia that the room would accommodate three adults as stated on our confirmation […] receipt. Unfortunately, upon arrival, the hotel staff informed us that there was not a roll away cot or a couch in the room which meant our son had to sleep on the floor for five nights with pillows and blankets. "NYC, Rock Hall Show"
The hotel was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was helpful and went out of their way in assisting us (upgrading our room, suggesting nearby delis & bars, ordering us our airport shuttle, bringing us additional towels with short notice). There IS a fish smell outside of the hotel (after all, it's in the heart of China Town and surrrounded […] by restaurants and food markets) but the smell was nonexistant in our room. The hotel is right next to the Manhattan Bridge so we brought ear plugs to counter the noise from the train but after walking 6-8 miles a day, the noise didn't bother us. Over all, I'd stay there again Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Fairfield Inn & Suites Marriott New York Manhattan/Downtown Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you had fun at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show, and enjoyed all the local restaurants and bars! We hope to welcome you again soon.. Heather, Front Desk Manager
"Excellent location and very clean"
The hotel is located in the Chinatown, not a clean location but very close to Brooklyn bridge and WTO. The hotel is very clean and breakfast was wonderful. The staff were very friendly. The reason I gave 4 for overall rating is because of small room size, which is perhaps a problem of most of the Manhattan hotels. Parking was couple of blocks away, […] so every time we had to walk (it was raining when we stayed, otherwise it would have been a tiny issue). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was a decent size and had a great view. Service was fine and the room was very clean. We were very excited about the continental breakfast the next day, however it was very crowded and not as enjoyable as expected.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fine if your not going to be in your hotel a lot"
The hotel is above a seafood market in Chinatown. The minute you walk in you can smell a foul smell that lingers in the elevator and hallways. This was, in my opinion, along with the 3 other guest I was with, an extremely unpleasant experience. The customer was great, but not the smell.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Fairfield Inn & Suites Marriott New York Manhattan/Downtown Good Day, Thank you for choosing The Fairfield Inn Downtown Manhattan for your recent stay. We have been working with the Supermarket in regards to the smell. All vents and airways have since been sealed off. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Best, Heather Front Desk Manager
"Close to china town,"
Very close to China Town, very stinky and bad smell at the entrance like staying in fish market Rooms are very small but clean and comfortableGenuine Expedia guest review
It was a good experience, the price was more than perfect, the room and bathroom was perfectly clean anf we got free wifi and breakfast. I loved it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location for Chinatown."
Average. The lobby, elevators and first floor smell like the open Chinese market that is located just below the hotel. When I booked the hotel, I asked about parking costs. I was told that it was free. The actual parking costs $30 per day, and is 3 blocks from the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Fairfield Inn & Suites Marriott New York Manhattan/Downtown Good Day, We would like to thank you for choosing The Fairfield Inn Downtown Manhattan for your recent stay, we do apologize for any misinformation you received prior to your stay. We have informed Expedia that parking is not offered on site, however a nearby lot offers a discount with our stamp. Thank your for letting us know there was a misinformation. "Nice hotel in Chinatown NYC"
This hotel is brand new, nice and clean! the room I got was quilt. Market smelling in Hallway and lobby. I will come back to stay if I catch a good rate!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel in same building with a Chinese market. The lobby and elevator smell of fish/shrimp, etc. It is located right next to the Manhattan Bridge and the subway runs across making thunderous noise and vibrates the hotel. Did not get much sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel close to metro"
The hotel in general was nice, everything is new. Breakfast and Wifi are free of charge, which is nice and rare to find on the island. The neighbourhood can seem dodgy but we never had problems although we arrived during the night. Nonetheless, we had a bad surprise when, after a long day of walking the city, we came back to the room at 1am and wanted […] to go to sleep but we realized our bed had not been changed since we found dirty socks in it and a lots of hair... The staff was nice as they helped us and found another room for us but we would have prefered not having to change room at one in the morning and move all of our luggage and personal things. Overall, we recommend this hotel as it is a good price for being on the island, but you should check your bed once you arrive! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Coming to NYC for my first time, I didn't understand that downtown Manhattan actually means Chinatown. Most of my meetings were in midtown, but the hotel is very close to the F Train, so it wasn't that inconvenient at all. Hotel was very new, and clean. Bathroom was large, but the two queen beds were cramped into the room, though I've heard we still […] had more room than a lot of hotels in NYC. I would stay here again. "Updated hotel but posting didn't match reservation"
The hotel was clean and updated, and the breakfast was good. The room didn't include a pull out sofa as advertised on hotels.com though, and we had 3 people in our party. The hotel didn't have roll aways, so our only choice was having someone sleep on the floor. Very frustrating to not have a room as advertised.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great choice for just needing a place to sleep"
The price was great, the free breakfast in the morning was perfect to save some money, and for needing a place to just sleep at night after sightseeing and exploring all day I would definitely recommend this hotel. The neighborhood doesn't have much to offer but it is close to E. Broadway station (F train) and within minutes you can get anywhere. The […] only downside was the horrible smell in the lobby from a fish market nearby. The hotel does its best at covering it up but some nights/mornings were unbearable. It didn't affect the smell anywhere else in the hotel other than the lobby though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Helpful and Friendly service"
The hotel was in a convient location between lower Manhattan and times square. The front desk receptionists were very friendly and helpful. They were more than willing to give/print directions and also tell us how to get places using public transportation. I was overall very satisfied with my stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel with good service, fish smell and train"
This is a new hotel in Chinatown. The rooms are very nice and well-furnished for the price that I paid (a "budget" price for NYC). It is a little off of the beaten-path. It will probably take you 40 minutes or so to get to Times Square on the subway, if that's your thing. The hotel shares a structure with an asian market, so everywhere but the rooms […] smells like fish. There is a train that runs 24 hours per day on a bridge near the hotel. You'll want to turn the air conditioner fan on at night while you sleep. I would stay here again, depending on the other options available at the time for the price. I had driven by this place several times after it was built and wondered how nice could a hotel be that was located on the edge of Chinatown? "One Stop Noodle Shop Location"
I've stayed in various parts of the Manhattan trinity, but this was my first time in Chinatown. To repeat, it's Chinatown, it's not "downtown" as labeled. This means parking is even more ridiculous and you better know your MTA lines. My biggest complaint with the hotel, the wi-fi is absolutely terrible not only on my laptop but my phone. It might be […] an ATT thing or just too much going on in one area. The room was nice although it felt cold no matter how high I cranked the thermo. There's also a convenient market on the bottom half which most morning smells like fish delivery and spices. It wasn't horrible but I won't be staying here again. Hotel is located in the heart of china town under a bridge almost. The train passes overhead but you can hardly hear it from the room. The room was kept very clean. the common areas were kept clean also. The biggest complain was the fish stench that come up the elevator shoot from the seafood supermarket next door. When you open the elevator doors and […] step in the odor is very unpleasant. The good thing is the odor stays in the elevator and part of the hallway not in the room. It was very interesting. I arrived, new it was recently opened, and the front desk told me: you're the first costumer Mr. Reis! That's true they openned that day! Very clean , good breakfast buffet, nice people. Would go back for sure. Pick a room facing Pike cause the metro goes on top of Manhattan Bridge...Genuine Expedia guest review
The room was clean and beds were very comfortable and even the breakfast was very tasty... make your own waffles! It's also close to the subway which is very convenient. "Great hotel, clean, friendly and had a local feel"
My sister and I stayed there in January so it wasn't too busy. Its a minute or two walk from a metro stop (East Broadway) and the staff were very pleasant when checking in. Its about 6-8 stops from midtown and so takes about 10-15 mins to get to the Rockafeller Center. The hotel still looks new and is only about a year old, it sits ontop of a chinese […] supermarket but we couldn't hear / smell anything (we worried as some mentioned smells from the fish market) The breakfast was the usual affair of hot / cold foods and a selection of drinks / juices. There were teas / coffees always available as well which was nice when returning in the evening. The room was spacious, extremely clean and the beds gave me one of the best nights sleep I've had in a long time. There was only one issue we had, the air conditioning was rather loud and even though it was -15 outside it still decided to vent cold air occasionally. We visited the front desk at 3am the first night and again the next evening and had two people attempt to adjust the thermostat / air conditioning unit but they couldn't manage to just simply turn it off completely. I have stayed in New York at several hotels some costing many multiples more and would happily prefer staying at this one again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is new therefore it was very comfortable. A subway station is a 2min walk away which is ideal however beaware very few trains run through the station. "Amazing except for 1 really big thing"
So the hotel staff was amazing, the space is brand new so the condition of the rooms and public spaces were amazing, definitely clean and definitely comfortable and great location. So why only a 3 star rating? Because our room had very Chinatown back alley smells, and no matter what we did to cover those smells up, there was no escaping them, like the […] room was being haunted by rotting shrimp and durian fruit. Let me be perfectly clear that all of the public spaces smelled excellent, hall ways, dining area, facilities etc... perfectly fine. It was only our room. We were on the second floor so maybe proximity to source of the stank played a part in it. The smell was so strong that we were concerned that it was seeping into our own clothes. If everything else was not perfect, which it was, I would have given this a lower rating, like a 1 and a half. The smell was just so overpowering. I would most likely not return if I knew that I would get the same room. If they fixed that smell issue, I would give this a 5 star rating because you really can't beat location, price, condition and staff, unfortunately smells are something that cannot be ignored.
