"Nice, B&B style hotel near walled city"
Hotel is just outside of the walled city, in an area that caters to international hostelers, meaning it's safe and nice, but not high end or boring. The famous clocktower is about a 10 minute walk, lined with restaurants, and tours are easy to get at the entrance to the city. The rooms are basic but nice, and the service is great. Breakfast is eggs, fruit, bread, and coffee served by a very nice staff, and they can arrange ground transport as well.

"If you're fond of sleeping... don't come here..."
The hotel itself is good enough... the problem comes with its neighbors... We came at night really tired form a long trip with the only intention of sleeping. The house across the street had a stereo at full volume... The hotel staff didn't care to do anything about it... We ended up not sleeping a bit... So... as said above... if you're fond of sleeping... look for another hotel, for your own resting sake...

"Nice place"
A very nice hotel for the price. It is in the middle of the Walled City and you can walk almost anywhere (except for the beach). Right down the street from 4 awesome restaurants as well.

"Excellent lower cost option"
Avoiding the high prices of boutique hotels in the Centro area, Casa Carmen offered a nice, clean, comfortable lower-cost experience. We stayed 6 nights, so it was great that the hotel gave us a quad room despite booking a double (at double's rate); there was space to spread out and be comfortable. The Getsemani neighborhood was a pleasure- lots of local life, plus shops for drinks and snacks and the great Plaza Trinidad nearby, and a short walk to clock tower. The A/C worked excellently which is very needed in Cartagena. There was no hot water, and I love a hot shower, but if I can survive it, anyone can! Breakfasts were nice, with Colombian coffee, juice, fruit, eggs and a starch (the days with arepas were a favorite!). Breakfast can take awhile if all the guests turn up at once, since it's one person cooking fresh and serving, but we were never in a rush so it didn't matter to us. The desk was staffed 24hrs, laundry service was reasonable, and Christian spoke English which was a huge plus given my poor Spanish.

"Clean and centrally located"
Very simple, but clean and close to all the actions. Staffs are friendly, and one of the them could speak English, so that helped. For the price, I could not ask for more.

Wonderful location, wonderful property, with a wonderful charm and staff working there. Just FYI, there is no hot water if you are the kind of person who requires hot showers. That said, Cartagena is a very hot and humid place anyway.

"Decent value"
A well located, small hotel with larger rooms and a good breakfast. Our first room, very large, was slated for renovation, but it was the only one ready, so we had it for one night. There was a dank odour that became apparent, which may explain why it needs renovating. We were swtiched to an equally larger room that was fine. Staff and service was very friendly and courteous. Quite good value for Cartagena.

"A cozy stay"
All in all a gray stay! The rooms were cozy and clean. Maria, the receptionist, was delightful. There was a weird mix-up with our laundry that reduced our rating. One of the staff were supposed to deliver our laundry for cleaning. We tried to get it back and we got a bunch of excuses in return and no address for pick-up. We discussed this back and forth and it turned out it was lying behind the counter, still unwashed. We got it back as we had to go early the next day

"Wonderful hotel near Cartegena`s old town."
Cozy and gorgeous small hotel with wonderful staff. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and come with AC and satellite TV. Simple but good breakfast served in the morning. The location is great: 5 minutes from the Clock Gate. The vicinity is the best nightlife area in Cartagena. Totally recommended!

"kleines gemütliches Stadthotel mitten in Getsemani"

"Hidden gem in fascinating neighbourhood."
06/07/15 Sarah W London, United Kingdom
Great value hotel hidden away in fascinating area. We loved exploring the colourful streets with their street art and watching locals open up their homes in the hot evenings. Less than 5 mins to super Club Havana bar with live music. Easy walking to old city but we were glad we didn't stay in that more touristy area. Casa Carmen staff were very friendly & helpful. Good breakfast. A great find.

"A wonderful place in Getsemani!!"
05/20/15 nycjg123
This place is really a fantastic place to stay in Cartagena, located in Getsemani just outside the Old City. I booked directly with the hotel and got a 15% discount - so my private room with breakfast was only $37 USD/night! It on a quiet street and you can walk everywhere you need to go in Cartagena! Cafe Havana is 1 block away and the Old City only a few minute walk as well and the street art in the neighbourhood is amazing! The staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and helpful! The breakfast was egg or arepa, toast, juice (I was there for a week never had the same juice twice) and a pot of coffee. Kept me satisfied until lunch! I stayed in the 1st room off the lobby - and although I heard the staff getting ready in the mornings it's what to be expected! Travelled solo female and always felt safe! Have no hesitation staying here!

"Bait and switch, nickeled and dimed"
04/07/15 Jason570 Spring, Texas
We were initially happy with Casa Carmen, but several things happened that made us very unhappy. We booked a family room for a week for 2 adults and 2 children. On the second to last night of our stay, we were informed that we had to pay an additional charge because of the age of one of our kids. This felt like a bait and switch, where they blackmailed us into paying more when we had no choice. Then, on our last day, we asked them to call us a taxi to the airport. Instead of calling us a taxi, they got one of their friends to give us a ride, but he tried to charge us considerably more than the standard 9,000 pesos. When we refused to pay, we had to walk with all are luggage and two kids to find a taxi on the main street. Other things to be forewarned about: if you stay in the front room it is very noisy. The breakfast is disappointing. I understand that it is a typical breakfast, but no variation at all and they severely watered down their juice (making it very bland compared to the other juices we had in Colombia. We would not recommend.

"Hidden gem in Getsemani!"

Spent 3 nights at Hotel Casa Carmen this past week and had a great time. Very accommodating staff --> Maria at the front desk is super helpful at letting you know about what to do and where to eat. When there was a miscommunication with the scheduling and we were given a room with only 1 bed, they rectified the situation by setting up an additional bed in our room. The breakfast is small but it is good, and the menu changes day to day. All in all a great experience, and would definitely return the next time I'm in Cartagena! Gracias!

"Comfortable small hotel on quiet street"
03/04/15 Jack S Toronto, Canada
We spent four enjoyable nights at this quiet, friendly, small hotel. Staff was very helpful, giving good advice about where to eat and what to see. Easy walk to tourist attractions within walled portion of city. Very reasonably priced. Cartagena is warm so unheated, lukewarm water in shower was not so bad, but we would have preferred warmer water.

"great spot, great value"
02/05/15 vancouverluke Vancouver, Canada
We loved this place. It's on a side street right close to some nice restaurants and bars. The rooftop deck was a great spot to take some beers and get some sun with a view of the whole city. Our room was large and clean and the ac worked great. The price for this place was very good compared to many other places that weren't as nice or central. The breakfast in the courtyard was delicious every morning. The coconut buns were a nice local touch as was the pot of columbian coffee. All the staff were super helpful and professional. We will be back to stay here again someday. Highly recommend this Jewel

"Nice and comfortable"
01/27/15 Khamlia Stockholm, Sweden
It was a nice little colonial house where we got a reasonable room so I was really really happy. Everything worked fine there, the breakfast was good and we even got some fruit salad. The beds were comfortable and light. The only thing I have to remark is that it would be good if they had a little drink you could buy there. We arrived and were really thirsty and when we asked if we could get something so they said they do not agree with it. That they are bidding only on room and breakfast. However, we would gladly pay for the drink, of course, did not get it for free. We were, however, made reference to go out and buy it somewhere out there, so it was not as fun to run right out and get a drink. But as I said, otherwise it was fine and nice there and it was nice view from the terrace. Wifi worked well too.

"wonderful stay"

Recently my family stayed at Casa Carmen and had a wonderful experience. We booked 3 rooms for 5 nights. Cristian generously agreed to arrange an airport pick up. The rooms were spotless, had working air conditioning, comfortable beds and a TV if needed. A cooked to order breakfast was prepared tastefully by the very kind and cheerful Ru. There was very little ,if any, hot water which did not bother us. Our favorite hang out area was the roof terrace with great city views. The location in the Gethsemane district which was very convenient and walkable to the Walled City and to many restaurants. A great large supermarket, Exito, was not far away. We took taxis back to the airport, which were reasonable, 12 mil COP.
