"Excellent lower cost option"
Avoiding the high prices of boutique hotels in the Centro area, Casa Carmen offered a nice, clean, comfortable lower-cost experience. We stayed 6 nights, so it was great that the hotel gave us a quad room despite booking a double (at double's rate); there was space to spread out and be comfortable. The Getsemani neighborhood was a pleasure- lots of […] local life, plus shops for drinks and snacks and the great Plaza Trinidad nearby, and a short walk to clock tower. The A/C worked excellently which is very needed in Cartagena. There was no hot water, and I love a hot shower, but if I can survive it, anyone can! Breakfasts were nice, with Colombian coffee, juice, fruit, eggs and a starch (the days with arepas were a favorite!). Breakfast can take awhile if all the guests turn up at once, since it's one person cooking fresh and serving, but we were never in a rush so it didn't matter to us. The desk was staffed 24hrs, laundry service was reasonable, and Christian spoke English which was a huge plus given my poor Spanish. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A well located, small hotel with larger rooms and a good breakfast. Our first room, very large, was slated for renovation, but it was the only one ready, so we had it for one night. There was a dank odour that became apparent, which may explain why it needs renovating. We were swtiched to an equally larger room that was fine. Staff and service was very […] friendly and courteous. Quite good value for Cartagena. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Situated about 5mins walk from the historical centre, this is a good new hotel in Cartagena. Breakfast included with good WiFi, a roof terrace and friendly, helpful staff. Excellent value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful hotel near Cartegena`s old town."
Cozy and gorgeous small hotel with wonderful staff. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and come with AC and satellite TV. Simple but good breakfast served in the morning. The location is great: 5 minutes from the Clock Gate. The vicinity is the best nightlife area in Cartagena. Totally recommended!Genuine Expedia guest review

We have stayed in this hotel during a part of our holidays for a week or more, and I can say that everything was really good (Food, bed, room, hotel staff, hotel location). I can advice this hotel 100%.

Most of the time i used to book hotels through websites like booking, hotels or despegar.com. i always get the same price or even less on internet than by doing a direct booking with the hotel. But this time price at the counter was 25% less than my booking. I understood i was the one paying the commision to the sale operator instead of the hotel... According to the management it's normal in Cartagena. Well it's indeed the only place in the world! Finally if you really want to book in that place, do it directly on their website. Otherwise location is quite good, close to everything, excellent cleanliness, the lady in charge of the breakfast is really kind.
"Great home base from which to see Cartagena"

We recently spent a week in Cartagena at the charming Casa Carmen in the Getsemani area (old slave quarter), just a 10 minute walk from the old walled city. There are wonderful restaurants in this neighbourhood which are generally about half the price of those in the walled city - and with better food in many cases. St Roque pub/cafe on the corner nearby is especially nice. There is a grocery store nearby as well as street food vendors and a new mall within walking distance (10 min) just across the bridge in the opposite direction from the walled city. The owner, Christian, is friendly and helpful and speaks English. He assisted us several times by making phone calls in Spanish for reservations, taxis, etc. The included breakfast is lovely, especially the Colombian coffee and different fresh juices made every day by the sweetest older senora. She showed some of the fruits she used to us and explained what they were (red tomatillo, lulo, and other things I'd never heard of but which were all delicious). We never had a problem getting a table at breakfast except for one day - and without us asking, a couple lingering over their coffee graciously moved to the reception chairs so we could sit and eat. The rooms are spacious and clean. As noted, shower water is cold (more like lukewarm, it's not frigid and actually quite welcome after long hot days walking around Cartagena!). There were mostly Spanish speaking couples/families staying when we were there and it was at times challenging to communicate with staff with our limited Spanish. We had an upstairs room at the back which was quieter than the front. (The nearby salsa club will literally shake the floor until 7 am on the weekends. We laughed one morning when we got up and heard both roosters crowing and blaring salsa music, both of which seemed to suddenly end with the rising of the sun. However, it never prevented us from sleeping ... it was more of a vibration than a loud noise and not an unpleasant background sound for going to sleep.) Interestingly, while there is a large police presence in the old walled city, it's not so much so in Getsemani. With the exception of the hostels on Media Luna, it has a local feel, which we experienced as also friendly and safe. This hotel is charming and good value and I would stay here again if in Cartagena.
"Fantastic boutique hotel in the heart of Getsemani."

What a gem. This little spot is located just off Calle Luna, one of the main thoroughfares in the Getsemani neighborhood. The location is filled with unique character. The staff are fantastic, although you may want to brush up on your Spanish skills before coming. Rooms are nice. Pay extra for the rooms with A/C. Also, there is no hot water in the showers, so prepare yourself. It's common in Cartagena. Breakfast is great and the little old señora who prepares it is the sweetest woman in the world. Getsemani is my favorite neighborhood in Cartagena. It's full of night life and you walk past local Cartageno's who sit in the street to take in the cool night air. Bring ear plugs. Cartagenos like to have a good time ; )
"Best place to stay in Getsemani!"

My friends and I loved Casa Carmen! It is close enough to the walled city to walk, but far enough to be away from it all. Casa Carmen is around the corner from Media Luna, but when you are inside you can't hear any of the noise, etc. There is a beautiful terrace where you can sit and read or daydream. Also, they serve breakfast every morning. The people who work there are SO amazing and helpful! They assisted us in getting transportation to Santa Marta and back. Highly recommended!

Perfect location. Very close to the main night clubs, restaurants, also the boats to get those beaches. Staffs are so friendly. Rooms are simple however very cleaned and cozy. Breakfast is simple but made with gracious lady. I really recomend this hostel - hotel where I spent 11 days.

good location in Getsamani. Easy to find as it's just down the road from a church. We easily walked to/from the Old Town and even the Fortress. ENJOY the rooftop patio! we seemed to be the only guests that knew about it and very much enjoyed it. We got the room with AC and were very happy for it as it is quite hot and humid in Cartagena. Overall a great place to stay. Bring ear plugs though as the neighbourhood can be LOUD. We were there during the end of Carnival and neighbours were BLASTING music into the street. My one complaint - breakfast. The food is good but they have 3 tables of 4. If the tables are occupied you're going to be left waiting, which we did both mornings. Not a big deal, unless you're pressed for time. And while we were there, the very friendly and helpful worker didn't speak English and my Spanish is terrible so we had a couple of funny conversations. It's a Spanish speaking country, I don't expect everyone to speak English. I just want to warn travelers that don't speak any Spanish ;-)
"I 100% recommend this hotel!"

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and loved it! The room was clean and quiet with a flat screen tv, great air con (huge plus in the heat of Cartagena) and a super comfy bed. The breakfast was outstanding, as was the staff who went out of their way to help us with any request we made. This hotel has a great location, and I would highly recommend this to future travelers.

We stayed at Casa Carmen in October and had originally booked for 3 nights but extended to 6 because we loved the Casa and Cartagena. The Casa is in a great location in the old town which has more of local feel. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants and bars. We had breakfast cooked for us every morning and our room was cleaned daily. Staff are friendly, we struggled a little with language barrier as we don't know much Spanish- but that's our fault. Tip- try and stay in the upstairs room, it's HUGE. A double bed with a second room with 2 singles etc and then bathroom off that. Shower only has cold water but hot is not needed due to heat! Highly recommend this Casa!
"Everything was amazing!"

I spent almost a whole week at this cute and very well-kept hotel and we completely felt at home here! All the staff and the manager Christian were incredibly helpful and friendly and we kept going back there, after each of our trips in the area. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone, the rooms are clean and spacious, the breakfast is amazing and everything was just perfect! Muchas gracias, Casa Carmen!
