First night in Amsterdam, and it was great location and service. The bathrooms were miserable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It's what you expect from a hostel...I spent little time there but it seemed reasonably clean. The expedia add said they have secure storage for luggage, the main reason I chose this hostel. They do not which really messed up my day as I had to carry around my valuables with me which in Amsterdam is troublesome..Genuine Expedia guest review

"An average hostel"
This place is just Ok. Nothing great about it. For the same rate there are many other places which are near the train station. Some of things which I did not like are 1. There is no lift, so if u have a heavy trolley bag be ready to take it up to the 3rd floor (my room was on third floor). 2. No lockers provided (trust your roomies), nothing was lost […] but I expected a locker in a shared accommodation. 3. Breakfast is just bread jam/butter along with tea or coffee no cereals at all. In my trip I stayed in 5 different hostels this was the worst one. 4. Very strict with their booking policy. I tired to reduce a day from my booking but they were not ready to make that change, I was easily able to do that in one of the hostels. However, this is more of a policy issue.
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hyggelig personale.
Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I had my doubts since it was one-star but was pleasantly surprised by a serious owner, though the other receptionists didn't seem to know much. The room was great and I met alot of cool people living there as well, everyday was a fun time!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"DO NOT STAY HERE: Bed Bugs in the Hostel"
02/24/15 Alexander K Brussels, Belgium
Upon arriving the front desk was not very welcoming. There is 1 washroom and 1 shower for 24 people. When we arrived in our room there was bed bugs crawling around everywhere on the beds. When we brought the dead bed bugs we killed in the room to the front desk. We demanded a refund but they only wanted to move us into a different room or another hostel that was associated with them. After arguing with the owner for 2 hours over the phone we left the hostel. They never gave us a refund after we came in multiple times following days to complain. Do not stay here you would probably be better sleeping on the street as it is cleaner than this hostel.
"Absolute garbage. Stay away at all cost"
02/24/15 Edson L
Our room was filled with BED BUGS within the first 5 minutes. Some crawled on my phone and friend's lap. Owner wouldn't refund money even though we were there for 2 hours. They tried to move us to another room but there were bed bugs in both rooms hosting 12 people in total. Stay away, you can definitely find better hostels without bed bugs for cheaper. Owner is useless and not willing to help.
02/19/15 Jason L Toronto, Canada
Our room was filled with BED BUGS!!! We didn't even unpack. They moved us to another room with...BED BUGS!! Then the owner would not refund us our money. We are students on a limited budget. Don't stay here, rude service and filthy conditions. Any place is better than this hole.
"I received a low price and outstanding service."
02/09/15 letmegohome Amsterdam, The Netherlands
I ended up stuck in Amsterdam, in what appears to be a very expensive area. Luckily, a local merchant pointed me to this wonderful hostel. Don't get me wrong, it is a hostel; not a hotel. It's very apparent when you walk into the booking/common room, given the plastic student chairs, boxy plastic table protectors, etc, but it's all kept pretty clean. Nevermind the random scuff marks on things and some worn paint... like the handrails of the staircase, etc. I couldn't ask more of a hostel at such a modest price, although be careful of the weekend prices or some travel agency prices, as prices can change drastically on Saturday or Sunday, while varying wildly between some services I've seen online (during a quick browse before posting this review). If you suddenly find yourself here on a slow weekday, however, at nice low price, this place is fantastic! The hostel feels welcoming, surprisingly cozy, the staff is friendly, and extremely helpful. You can expect free computer usage in the common area, with free internet access, and two good wireless signals broadcasting free internet across the floors. When you wake up, there's a simple, but heavy free breakfast, featuring thick, hearty bread slices and tasty peanut butter and jelly (they also offer fresh regular butter for any person wishing to enjoy a few slices of buttered bread or for those with peanut allergies). This comes with free a coffee and tea dispenser (refreshed every morning and left in the common area throughout the day until empty). They also a sell a small selection of candy, noodles, and cold drinks for anybody wanting refreshments after nearby stores and shops close. As for the rooms themselves, they don't all offer the same features, as I've stayed in two types, but the concept is the same: a few very sturdy (non-wobbly) bunk beds typically wrapped around (parallel) to the walls, giving an inviting feeling to the few guests that each room houses. One room I tried included a separate room with toilet and shower built in, while another offered these just outside the room, in a separate and private hallway (from the main staircase). Both had a mirror and sink in the bunk room with an electrical outlet that actually didn't seem to get used much, given the outlets and facilities in the common room; although I think they might offer extensions if you find yourself need to share the outlet or if you want to have a device reach your bed. Don't quote me on that, but I saw one in the first room I was in and they did say something about a possible extension when I even slightly pondered working on my laptop from my bunk (but being a bit out of reach of the outlet). There's an auxilliary shower and toilet facility downstairs, just outside of the common area, although I'm not sure if I'd recommend the shower down there, as it's just a door into the kitchen, which doesn't offer a great deal of privacy or place to stow personal affects, etc. Finally, the kitchen is usually left open during most of the day and it offers things like a water boiler, microwave, fridge, utensils, and I even see a big coffee maker there, which they probably use for the morning brews (so you could probably make a fresh pot or pots if they run out in the common area, assuming you grab the filters and your own bag of coffee in a nearby store). There's no stove. The kitchen has a door that leads outside (to the back), where people may smoke. I also noticed a lot of bicycles there and a they do have a bike rental service. There's no smoking allowed in the hostel or directly around the entrance and eating in the hostel is restricted to the common area and the kitchen. Finally, you should note that the common area and kitchen shelter the occasional cat. This is a delight for a cat lover (like me), although it may be a concern for those with allergies. That being said, the hostel is cleaned every day (so you won't actually find any hairs anywhere) and you'll probably only notice an entitled feline walking down the hall or staring at guests in the common area when it gets particularly chilly outside or when the appeal of some free cat food calls (there's a small kitty door in the kitchen door). I really like seeing a happy kitty around from time to time ^_^. Oh! Looking to my left... I also want to mention that they have a pretty cool flatscreen hanging in the common area. As I mentioned, it's plastic chair and tables with plastic covers, etc, so no couches, etc, but the television does broadcast some good shows or news in the evening. I found myself enjoying an episode of a popular series (on what I think was Comedy Central) after a pretty long day around the city, before heading to bed. The guests here have also been pretty friendly or fun to speak with and some of us have gone out to enjoy aspects of the city (which is something I usually don't do). I highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a hostel. Service is friendly and responsive. Good city knowledge. Try to book in the weekdays, as prices can be vary.
"rip off... literally"

So me and my friends just had a long weekend in Dam. We got from the airport to central dam to hotel no problem whatsoever. Location isnt bad and you have everything around you. We were welcomed by a younger man who didnt really help us, gave us extremely basic information. We werent too bothered at the time as we were eager to get on our way. The bedroom wasnt bad considering the price. 2 bunk beds between 3 of us, a bit cramped and ripped duvets but there you go... what they didnt tell us is that we werent allowed to even touch the fourth and unused bed. one morning, one member of staff stormed in without knocking and told us off for just making space and putting our CLEAN clothes and bags on there. The bathroom next to our room also smelt awful, sink was broken and barely had toilet roll. The next day before we left for the day, all we had for breakfast was bread......... not even a toaster!? The coffee and tea however was really nice but could have made the slightest effort to put mugs out, not plastic cups. The eating area was also dirty, sticky with jam and not clean at all. HOWEVER I take my hat off to one of the staff who really helped us as tourists and pointed us in the right directions and drew on a map for us with a huge smile on his face which the other staff didnt have. I dont really recommend this place but it did the job i suppose. If the hotels hospitality was outstanding, the bedrooms and hygiene wouldnt bother me.
"Not welcomed to that creepy place"
12/16/14 m0ch0u Tarragona, Spain
The kitchen is in fact only a micro wave. The owners are not nice, they are disorganized and force us to pay a key (for the bikes we rent) that was missing because of them...Price of the key 30 euros...Rats are leaving happily in the rooms (just in case that's why they ask not to bring food upstairs)...Beautiful mold, because of the high humidity, in the "bathrooms" which as the kitchen, is not really what it is supposed to be... Lot of other bad comments to tell but I think it's enough to tell you not to go!
"Not as expected"
12/08/14 ShaunD215 Bristol, United Kingdom
The level of service is acceptable upon your check-in prompt and efficient. However the rooms aren't as what it seemed to be I had the 12 to a room located downstairs which was okay in comfort but things like a ladder to climb up your top bunk wasn't there, the shower was literally 3' by 3' with no room to move about. The good side was breakfast was provided (bread and butter with coffee or tea) sufficient to get you till lunch perhaps. Location was within walking distance to the Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum and close to the tram too. The one thing to watch out for is the "in-house" cat which joins in the common area and sits on the table while you eat your dinner.. (personally i wouldn't have mind but being allergic to animal dander this put me off most of the time). Beware if your room is on the ground floor, this cat likes to sneak in the room.
"surprisingly bad for price and continent"

Everything is covered with a patina of filth. When you use the handrail of the steep staircase, your hands are sticky after. Noisy at night due to fighting hotel cats and guests. NO LOCKERS, NO ladder or anything to get in the upper bed The place is in a posh residencial area, no coffeeshops, no cheap food, no anything around. Many complaining guests on a daily base, ridiculous "breakfast" Disgusting smells everywhere. primitive seating and equipment quality like poorer parts of south america or africa. Internet works sometimes a bit (no pics on your fb wall) One of the 5 worst places I ever stayed at, worst bangs for the buck. For less money you get 1st world level places, some of them really good. No idea how such a place is tolerated by authorities.
"Not recommended, avoid the upper floor"
10/24/14 Miguel F
It's Amsterdam for this price you must know that the hostel don't be so nice. The location is not very good you need to walk around 45 min if you arrived at the centraal station, but you have tram. If you go out at night and you planed to arrived a little later expect at least a 30 min walk from the nearest night clubs. This or simply take a taxi, the tram and buses stops early (for me). About the hostel, when we arrive they put us in a good room and it seems that we are alone so, when we arrive from the night club (around 5am) we have a ticket to go to the reception. The reception guy tell us that we must move to the upper floor because our room have a problem (an excuse to move us to a room with more people). In the morning we talk with the owner to tell him that we pay for a room with less beds but he said that they don't have more rooms and our room have a problem. So, avoid the upper floor first because of the stairs and second because you only have one bathroom to the entire floor.
"Not a great hostel"
09/04/14 feedmymedia Cape Town Central, South Africa
I had no choice but to book this hostel for my friend and I, we had left planning too late and were forced to book this place. On arrival there were some rude guest having a disagreement with a fairly strict reception guy. I can't say who was at fault, but it didn't set the tone for a good experience. Our shared toilet didn't have a working light, so when we got back to the hostel from our night out we had to use the bathroom in the pitch dark. In the morning when we reported the issue we were told the light works try again, the light certainly didn't work. I was happy to leave this hostel and certainly wouldn't recommend the hostel to anyone else!
