Prima verblijf.

Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good hostel, horrible bathroom"

I really enjoyed the hostel and common areas but the bedroom and bathroom are horrible. The staff is kind and will always help you. The location is excelent, near the bulldog, anne frank museum and iamsterdam letters.
"Appreciate What You Have"

Nice place, a lot of character right in the middle of all the action! A beautiful canal and Bourbon Street blues bar just to the left, and Leidsepleine all around. The best collection of nightlife in Amsterdam is right outside the door. The reception room is a blast too, as a matter of fact the whole street is like an old Western set. Access to most of the best and most famous clubs in Amsterdam: Sugar Factory, Up/Kring, Melkweig, Chicago Social, Be-At, Hard Rock, Paradiso on and on. In the day time, Vondel Park, the Rijks Museum, and Museum Pleine (Museum Square, where most of Amsterdam's museums are situated) are all minutes away by foot. This place cuts out most of your walking and searching, all you have to do is reach the hostel. Everybody knows where it is, as Leidsepleine is probably the most well-known and exclusive area in Amsterdam. The rooms are cleaned well every day and stay as nice as you keep them. Staff will help you with maps and tips, and they keep fresh hot coffee ready for free, not to mention a light breakfast every morning also free. This hostel frees you up to just do what you wanted to do when you came to Amsterdam: get around easily and have fun. As far as location, Leidsepleine is definitely da best!
"Cheap, good location, dodgy"
12/16/13 Sam L
The hostel is strategically located and cheap EUR10 per night, the best selling point. It has very narrow staircase so, those with huge backpacks, beware. Very tiny toilet and bathroom for sharing (EUR10 per night, nothing to expect). The bed was rather dirty and you are expected to climb up the bunk bed without any staircase. So, when the person sleeping the lower deck ain't friendly, you may face some issue every time climbing up and down. Breakfast that was included were bread, jam and some coffee and tea. WiFi is limited to the reception and dining area only. If you are on tight budget, this may be a choice but other than that, research on other hostels.
"Cheap, nothing more"

The hostel was very cheap, and eventually that is all we needed as a group of students. Although I think some lockers for your stuff can help alot. In the end we were there just to crash after long days of walking around in amsterdam. The location is very good, probably the best point of this hostel.
"Avoid at all costs"

I didn't look up reviews before going, and once I stepped in the stairways of the hostel, I had the illusion I was in a third world country. And I have been in much nicer and cleaner hostels in the global south than this one. This hostel smelled really bad, very dirty, and there is only one toilet and one shower for 16 beds (for the non-ensuite rooms). It was significantly overpriced, 40 euros for one night. They only accept cash, and do not give any refund once you checked in. I honestly don't know where that money is spent to maintain the hostel, except the staff using the cash in the pubs across the street. It is located very near pubs, so every time someone steps in or out the pubs across the street, you can hear the very loud music. I didn't get any sleep at all. The free breakfast is only toast, jam and coffee. The staff do not care about travelers, as long as they have the money in their pockets. I honestly have never been to a hostel so bad. Complete waste of money. Why would you pay 40 euros per night for no sleep, a dirty toilet and shower sharing with 16 beds? I was attending a conference for this trip, and because I got no sleep, I wasn't able to attend the whole conference either. This hostel completely ruined my trip.
"The worst hostel in Amsterdam?"
Everything about this place is literally terrible and dirty. The only decent thing about this place is the location, and even that isn't great! It's a matter of get in, they take your money, you stay in a horrible place for a couple of days, and go! DO NOT GO HERE!
"Don't go there!"

We booked a room via Hostelbooker one month before our arrival and i payed 10% in advance . Then 2 days before they cancelled our booking because they were not able to use my credit card ( standard VISA, used worldwide , and with enough money on it) I try in any way to ask them not to cancel the reservation, i propose to use other card, other payment methods, to pay cash at arrival and so on, but they only wanted to cancel the reservation (i suspect they found someone that payed more than us, so they prefer to change guests...) At the end of the day, I payed 10% money for nothing, i had to search at the last second for anothe accomodation so i payed 4 times more. Moreover they were extremely unprofessional and not kind in any way in all this situation

The hostel has a very good location, but average rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are poor, but you can have coffee or tea during the daytime for free. There is free wi-fi, but poor connection in the hall, and not enough place for many people.

Well, I'm not sure where to begin with this one. I guess I could start by saying that the location was excellent; very, very good. However, that is the only positive thing worth mentioning: The rooms (or prison cells) smelt absolutely horrible. Our room (the beds and the sink) weren't clean and the room was very small. The mattresses were fine, though. There were two power sockets to share between the four of us, which proved to be an issue when it came to charging our stuff. I had a shower, but that was the only one I had. Not very clean at all. My friend even came back into the room to grab his flip-flops as they were "desperately needed" in the shower. I stank pretty bad when I checked out, but had I showered again, I wouldn't have survived to come out at all. The bathroom and the shower were shared for the entire floor and were small and unclean. There wasn't even any soap or towel to clean and dry my hands with. I think this place should be expected as I believe it is unhealthy to stay here. It it is inspected, I wouldn't be surprised if it were shut down. I wok up one morning to hear the guy at the front desk swearing unpleasantly at a guest. Not sure what the drama was all about, but not the kind of thing I expect to hear from the man on front desk. There was also a lot of noise outside of our room almost every night. The stairs are narrow and incredibly steep; I feel for the people who have to carry heavy suitcases to the top floor. I was told I couldn't use the washing machine in the kitchen, so I had to wash my clothes elsewhere and pay quite a bit of money to do so. Breakfast was satisfactory and consisted of bread, jam, peanut butter, marmalade, coffee, and tea. It isn't bad, but it's nothing special. The guy on front desk wanted to charge us 1€ for a city map, which is rediculous. On that note, this is definitely not worth the price you pay; you pay a lot for what feels like not a lot. I have travelled the world and stayed in many hostels and none have been as dirty or as unpleasant as this. If I am ever back in Amsterdam, I will be avoiding this place like the plague. You should, too.
"Well located but completely squalid"
If looking for a lively location in the heart of Amsterdam then this fits the bill. The price you pay is complete squalor. Photo is misleading it is of another street. Place is ill maintained and filthy. Breakfast is bread available to toast, tub of margarine, jam & tea or coffee. Would avoid at all costs.
