A stunning villa with lovely bedrooms and plenty of living spaces. There was a problem with the AC in 2nd bedroom (as there was where we stayed previously) and breakfast order occasionally wrong but in every other respect it was beautiful. I can not say enough positive things about the Layar. We stayed there for 8 nights during our wedding and the staff were fantastic. We had a 2 bed villa which was just as beautiful as the photos on the website. "Perfection in every way ! And some corrections to a review below"

Before I begin what will be a very positive, glowing review of the Layar, I think an alternative view of Jim M's review is needed. We had the unfortunate 'pleasure' of staying in the villa directly opposite Jim M's. The first night they arrived, we had to walk in to their villa late at night, to ask that they turn their blaring music down to a reasonable level - completely inconsiderate of all other guests. As for the mosquito spraying - yes they came an informed us prior to spraying the villa grounds (it was not sprayed inside the villa as claimed) and yes, a small amount of smoke did drift into the villa - it cleared in 15 minutes. Jim's recounting of this is so over dramatic and his reaction to the staff at the time was completely inappropriate. The rudeness was all on his behalf, not the manager. Yelling at the staff (we could hear the rant from our villa) & using the foulest language to people who were nothing but unfailing polite at all times. Disgusting. Our time at the Layar was exceptional, the villa was spacious, incredibly comfortable and such a relaxing environment. It's not often that the actual facilities live up to the pictures used on booking / review sites, but The Layar certainly does - what you see is what you get ! The in house meals were of a much higher standard than we expected and the pricing is more than reasonable. Unlike another review, breakfast was never an issue for us, they always called the night before if we hadn't already placed our order, so never had to wait, it was always delivered at the time we requested. The staff are sensational, incredibly polite, they went out of their way to accomodate any requests we had. We didn't have any problems with wi-fi connections either - worked perfectly, in all rooms of the villa and the speed of the connection was fine. Location is just an easy stroll from the main strip and everything in Seminyak is within walking distance. And for those who are considering a massage but don't want to walk into central Seminyak, I can highly recommend Bodyworks right next door to the Layar - the services and staff are great ! I travelled with friends and we all agreed that we would return to the Layar without hesitation.
"An Unfortunate and Costly Experience"

My partner and I stayed at The Layar recently with a group of friends. On first appearance it was a lovely hotel, with modern, beautiful architecture, very clean and friendly staff. However as we continued our stay with them we noticed several downfalls which made our stay very difficult. We were hosting a BBQ in the villa for 20 people which was advertised as $35 per head, however we were charged $110 per head for squid, steak, prawns and two salads. We received an absolutely absurd bill at the end of the trip and were being told to pay 3 times as much. We also discovered that they did not even provide us with half the amount of food as listed on the BBQ menu. The F&B Manager claimed that they used imported seafood which was why the price had gone up. However, this was not true. They offered us a mere 10% discount but it meant we still had to pay 2.5 times more. Wine was $100 per bottle which is also a ridiculously inflated price. We were sharing our villa compound with another couple. We each had a key to our individual rooms however they would only supply one master key into the compound. This meant that we either all had to make sure we went to the villa together, that someone was always at the villa to let the others in or waiting at reception or at our front door for a member of staff to let us in. We did not have as much flexibility during our stay and waiting outside our villa to be let in was extremely frustrating and time wasting. All the villas had access to free wi-fi, however it was mind bogglingly slow and there were many occasions where it did not connect at all, especially in the bedrooms. To connect properly or at all you needed to sit in the communal area which was not always ideal. The included breakfast was very basic. Elements were good but on the whole nothing special. If you did not order your breakfast the night before and ordered the morning you wanted to eat then you could be waiting for up to one and a half hours before getting it delivered to your villa. On two occasions they did not call us to ask for our order and were left with no breakfast in the morning. I would highly recommend going to a cafe or restaurant for breakfast. We will not be returning to The Layar again.

The one thing I find inexcusable it they almost killed us by fogging our unit with a nasty and horrible mosquito repellant. Fogged the whole place so dense you could not see 1 foot in front of your face... They did this while we were taking day naps. They did not bother to check and see if anyone was in the unit. We woke up to a horrible smell and thinking we were going to die. I was unable to see well enough to get our of my room so I had to honker down with a towel over my face for 15 minutes till I could get out. Eyes burning and felt very sick. Upon calling the manager to let them know what happened they were unapologetic, made excuses and tried to blame it on a misunderstanding on our part. All they needed to do was knock on the doors. They said "we called and no one answered so we did not think anyone was there".... Well, when you fog a villa to this level there is no excuse for putting your guests lives at risk. They claim it was "harmless chemical" which I don't believe after feeling sick for a day with burning eyes... Our other guests in villa had to literally climb a concrete call to get out or they very well may have taken in so much repellant they could have died. AND THEY TRIED TO BLAME THIS ON US.... Manager was boderline rude and did not really seem to care. No true apology. They only thing they did for us was change our bedding that was soaked in the nasty gas. And they use a machine that spits out petrol/gas into the unit while doing the spray as well that is FOR SURE toxic. And they do it INSIDE your villa to a level in US where they would tent your home and ensure no one was inside and triple check that. Food here is not good. "crispy bacon" is a wilted piece of fat. To be fair, the villas are nice. And the staff was very kind (minus the manager who did not seem to care that he almost killed us)... The beds are not good and very hard. Gave us all neck issues every morning when we woke up. Private dinners in your villa are overpriced and they will overcharge you for them so make sure to be very clear on your deal for this if you decide to stay here and do a private dinner. Pools in villas are nice and landscaping is nice. Also the people who work front desk are nice and helpful. However the "butler" you are supposed to receive is not a butler at all. Just means you have someone you can call at front desk to come help you. A true butler is there to focus on you and help you with your every need and why places are called 5 star. But that is not what you get. I really wanted to give this place a 4 star review, it is 100% NOT a 5 star resort by any means. I have stayed at many true 5 star places and this does not qualify or even come close. If we had not had mosquito incident and the food was not poor I would have given 4 starts.... Some very nice people work here... But after the incident we experience and the way the manager really did not seem to care I have to give it a 3. Wanted to give it a 2 but feel it is not worthy of a score that low. 3 stars is what this place is, it's OK, but nothing that special. We had a good time, place was decent, but I'd stay somewhere else next time I come to Bali. I REALLY WANTED TO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! But the last few days things went downhill and to have woken up to a villa filled with mosquito repellant and gasoline fumes made me unable to do so. And as I said, the room service food is quite poor.

10/10! My wife and I spent the last 2 weeks in luxury at The Layar Villas and simply can't fault one thing! Immaculate accomodation and grounds, super-friendly service even by Bali's standards. The staff felt like old friends by the end of the stay, helping with everything from dining recommendations to some useful phrases to make our stay in Bali that much easier. Also located a 10min stroll from the centre of Seminyak. Can't wait for the next visit!

Had a great time staying in Villa 13 - 3 bedrooms villa. The check-in was fast, compliment to the friendly buttler (Bayu). Villa is very nice and well-equipped. Rooms are clean and cosy. Love the atmostphere. One thing to improve- the breakfast. Good selection but quality could be improved. Will definately go back again!

We had an amazing time at The Layar, and just to add, we really appreciated not being judged as we danced around the villa in swimwear as it was thoroughly cleaned. Very friendly staff, that always tried to go out of their way to make the trip the best experience possible. Great location, not far from the main shopping and eating district (to walk), however taxis quickly became "Bali" expensive with the one way streets. The villa was absolutely magnificent; huge open rooms and modern appointments. The breakfast was prompt every morning but quality was adequate. A big thank you to the team at The Layar, we really would love to see you again.
"Fantastic family holiday location"
We travelled to Bali for a friends wedding and a family holiday. We travelled with our children - 5 years old, 2 1/2 years old and 11months. The villas were very private, clean, spacious, and luxurious. The staff were warm friendly, helpful and extremely polite. The location of the villa's are very central - just a short walk to great restaurants and shops. My advice - having young children we requested the pool to be fenced. This was erected before we arrived. With such a lovely large pool having it fenced allowed us to relax. The children also enjoyed playing in the gorgeous well maintained garden (if they weren't in the pool). The staff were all so kind and considerate of the children, it made it all so easy. Thank you to The Layar for a wonderful holiday. We hope to visit again.

We stayed at The Layer (Villa #15) early September for nine nights with my daughter and two grandchildren one 3 1/2 and one 8 months - could have stayed longer, did not want to leave. The Villas are absolutely stunning and beautifully set out. The pool is amazing and the gardens just beautiful. Spent most of the day at the Villa soaking up the sun by the pool. The location is perfect, we were able to walk to all the great restaurants in Seminyak. We had one night of very noisy neighbours @ 1:00am. Staff dealt with this promptly. A big thank you to all the staff for the fantastic stay we had, the service and security was just amazing.The butlers, cleaners and gardeners did a wonderful job. We will certainly be coming back again, I would not even consider looking elsewhere. Highly recommend to others, you will not be disappointed. As for the mosquitos well what can you do, it's not the staffs' fault.The rooms are sprayed daily and once a week outside the villas is treated too. The mosquitos were bad in Legian also. Suggest you buy plenty of spray and repellent. Loved it, loved it, loved it
