An excellent place to rest your head and sleep. Don't expect too much in the way of socializing, but the location is great for the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Friendly and cosy hostel!"
When I first walked in, tired from travelling, I was greeted by two very friendly, warm, and welcoming guys (Cosi and Yassine). They put me at ease straight away and eagerly showed me some tour ideas and places to visit on a map, happily answering my many questions. There was an empty room they gave me which was available although I was originally booked […] for a shared mixed, and so I felt at home and safe. In the morning coffee and tea were free-flowing in the small and humble reception area, and it was a really pleasant atmosphere where we could chat and chill out. Recommended!!!
Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Alright hostel for youth and backpackers"
Nothing was really good, but nothing really bad neither. I booked 6 days in advance so this was the only place that had vacancies for all my 3 nights. There's another Janson hostel on the same street) this one was 69A, which has a better lobby and rooms. This had steep stairs which makes it harder coming in and out, but ok i had light luggade. There […] are only 2 showers for maybe 40-50 people, so it's hard to shower or go to the toilet when you want too. One shower is really small, and the other is ok, but the hose and handset are fixed, and no place to hang clothes. No table or anything in the rooms neither, just 4 beds and 1 power outlet for all people, Location is also 30-35 minuts from the center, but as a tourist it's passable. And it's only 7-8 minutes away from bigger crocery stores. I give it 5.5 out of 10. Staff was definetely nice and cosy, that was the best. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just Horrible Everything was awful"
09/13/14 Dharnish Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Where to start ? Firstly, it always stunk wherever you were mainly of piss. My room mates were horrible simply their to smoke weed they began to get high in the rooms. I tried to be nice but they left their dirty underwear all over the room and were rude and didn't wait properly to use the bathroom meaning I was always last. The service was crap too you'd be asleep at 8 o'clock and some sweaty guy comes barging into your room bieng loud saying he wants to clean the room. The lockers didn't work also I has about 70 euros stolen and upon telling staff they didn't care.

I've stayed in this hostel 2 weeks ago and was no good! i give it 2 stars. noisy and small rooms. staff is not super helpful, i arrived at 1am without sleeping for 48h, and i waited 20min to check-in because someone ha to call someone. . . good that i stayed only 2 days... in the morning i woke up at 6am with the sun in my face. nothing like shutters... the hostel for 25e per night is ridiculously expensive. is really bed, and not clean and tidy as others. i won't recommend this place. just one of the staff girls was really nice and helped me a lot with the best spots and shortcuts to do. because of her i give 2 stars instead of 1.
"Expensive with a midnight rat"

A few friends and I stayed here on a spontaneous trip to Amsterdam. We arrived at 3 am when we had to walk the streets looking for an atm to pay for the visit before we could check in, no exceptions. The room was small but tidy enough... Or so we thought. Our second night we woke up in the middle of the night to a rat rummaging through our room! Disgusting. Way over priced for the facility, I guess you're paying for location. Relatively close (walking distance) to most tourist attractions and lots of public transport close by.
"Good for a short stay"

The place was very clean and the staff were very friendly. You can hire a bike for them for a decent price and they have lockers, which is handy. The hostel is also near the museumplein and close to tram stops to travel around the city. However, the rooms are very small so the beds are very close together and there's not much space for bags. The social area is just a few tables in the reception, so not a great hostel to meet other people and socialise.

Was a simple but clean and fun hostel. Was exactly what I needed and in a great location, also compared to other places at least affordable. If you are not picky and spend more time exploring the city than inside, you will like it. If they put a few chairs in the room and some hangers for clothing it would be perfect! Staff is kind and will do their best to show you good places to see.
"Doesn't matter how relatively cheap it is. There must be a minimum"
The bedrooms are atrocious. No shutters, so if you're coming in the summer be prepared to have sunlight shining on your face at 6AM. Staff didn't seem concerned with this as they had "never had complaints". The rooms are extremely hot and claustrophobic and the pillow you'll sleep on is like a leather cushion from a sofa or something. The cherry on top of my first night? Waking up to a chewed bubblegum stuck to the pillow. Staff couldn't care less, just changed the cover of the pillow. Wi-fi is kind of a joke, as it almost never works in the room. You'll have to go to the "common room" (which is basically the reception), and sit amidst everyone else's bags. The staff is so gratuitously rude it's almost laughable. They talk to you like your dumb and charge you 3 euros for holding your bag for a couple more hours after you checkout. They're not helpful and they're just annoying. It's a minimum effort mess of a place to be honest. Pay an extra 30 euros to go to a better place or use airbnb, there's absolutely no value for money here
"What it did provide, it did poorly"
07/17/14 Cameron N
Rooms are absolutely tiny and filled to capacity with bunks, room was directly by the street and because of the packed nature of the room windows had to be left open meaning a very early wake up. Breakfast time is provided according to room number so if you're on the first floor it's 7am to 7.45am or too bad. I do not recommend.
"good value for money"

the place is nothing special but it`s a good value for the money you pay. the staff is very friendly and the location is nice too. they have free w-lan for the guests and there is a nice cat called simba
"Overpriced...as is Amsterdam"
Me and a friend went here at the start of backpacking through Europe, so we were on a budget however it wasn't too modest. The accommodation was one of the cheapest we found, so it does seem €33 is allot for a hostel but others were much higher. I'll get to the basics I wanted to know as a first time traveller. Location: 30 mins from central station walk, 10 mins on tram. Don't be fooled by the "central station" yes it is the centre however this hostel is right next to Van Goch musem, Vondlepark and another few good places so it was very central if you don't mind the initial walk. Bed: bed is a bed. That's all we wanted travelling. Clean enough. Only problem is there was only one extension lead in the middle of the room, which meant however unlikely theft might of been you couldn't charge your phone etc over night. You had to sit at stare waiting for it to charge as it was right next to somebody else's bed. We learnt through other hostels they all had plugs and little shelves etc next to beds which was definitely missing here. Breakfast: tea or coffee in and all plastic cup, hot floppy bread and jam. The usual Bathrooms: toilet, sink and shower in room room and three of these, one for each floor. Never had a problem with being busy, bit cramped and not as clean as a hotel (and for €33 it is like a hotel) but is as what you would expect. I would stay again if this place wasn't in Amsterdam, which cost an arm and a leg. Staff were friendly enough. And there was a cat.
"Adequate but expensive. "
06/23/14 Johntyboy4 UK
We paid €33 per night but this seems to be a general reflection of Amsterdam. It's an expensive place. The hostel was clean, guests were friendly and the staff helpful. Slice of hot floppy bread and jam for breakfast. It was an OK stay. The area was nice but it took around 30 mins walk to get the station with a hefty rucksack. I would stay there again.
