"Cabin in the mountains"
We stayed at the Banff Gate Mountain Resort May 30 - June 1. It was a great family gathering. The resort is a bit run down; it was probably great in the 80's. They are ideal for family gatherings; we had three cabins. The cabins have all the amenities that you would need for an extended stay; cutlery, plates, pots, pans, dishwasher, stove, BBQ, towels, TV, DVD player (and free DVD's to borrow), gas fireplace, big balcony, lots of windows. It is however, woefully stuck in the 80's when it comes to décor. It could definitely use some TLC with regards to upkeep; older furniture, blinds that were too small for some of the windows, counter edging peeling off, old bed covers, duvets that did not have any covers, dull knives, things like that. It was beautifully located in the wilderness - nothing around except the hamlet of Dead Man's Flat's which is a five minute car ride away. So if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle and soak up the Rockies, it is perfect - we enjoyed that aspect. We even spotted a bear from the resort grounds. The grounds have an indoor swimming pool, which the kids loved. It has an indoor hot tub as well. There is a playground area for the kids and a tennis court. There are laundry facilities (we did not use them, just saw the building). So if you want to get away from it all, for a stay in a modest self contained cabin, to enjoy the Rockies, then this is the place for you. If you want luxury, think twice before booking.

"A cozy retreat outside of town"
My family and I love staying at this hotel! It's great if you want to cook your own meals, the kitchen and BBQ are awesome to have. It's in a quiet secluded area, out of town, and the variety of activities to do is endless, even if it's raining! The staff are very friendly and helpful. Buildings themselves are slightly older but are set up wonderfully, and we didn't mind having to clean up after ourselves (no maid service). It's worth it just to have such a quiet cozy place to enjoy some family time and actually experience nature right from our doorstep. Will definitely be coming to stay again!!

"Great cabins!"
For less than the cost of renting a basic hotel room in Banff, we rented a 2 bed 2 bath cabin with fully stocked kitchen. The ad states that it sleeps 6 people but our cabin had an extra murphy bed which made our cabin sleep 8 people! Makes for a cheap stay with all of your friends! I will definitely be going back.

"Good getaway place"
The hotel is a little hard to find, and not really near anything, but as we had rented it for a birthday party weekend that didn't matter to us. There was plenty of room, the view from the balcony was great, and the front desk staff were helpful when we requested a late check out (for a fee). We appreciated the privacy of the chalet house and the fact that we could be a bit louder. Yes the rooms are a bit dated, but we didn't mind.

"Wonderful mountain views"
I could never tire of looking at the mountain views. A peaceful site where deer wander when it is quiet. A trail walk took us within minutes of a bear - scat there on the way back but not on the way down! It is not the place to be if you are looking for lots of supervised activities. The drive to \Canmore takes about 10 minutes along the main highway where you can find almost anything you want.

"Very nice place"
Very nice stay, very friendly staff. My only complaint is that many of the activities in the game/activity room were in poor shape and desperately needing maintenance. Other than that, no complaints.

"Wonderful & a perfect getaway!!"
We came for two nights and had such an amazing time that we stayed an extra day! The cabin was wonderful, quiet, very clean (albeit dated) and completely our own. We brought our four little boys and the large entry was perfect for all the snow gear and boots. The living space was so much larger than most hotel suits and the full kitchen made cooking and dishes so manageable for me (the mom). We went sledding right on a hill beside our cabin, had hot chocolate in the gazebo by the hill, enjoyed the pool and all the time we were able to spend together around the fireplace. We will most definitely be coming back. There was no stress about our boys making noise or playing, and all 6 of us were very sad to leave. Most certainly will be recommending this Place to our friends and family.

"Peaceful!"
07/27/15 TeresaK_Canada Edmonton, Canada
Our family have been taking a week once a year at this resort. At the beginning it was quite shabby..old and rundown. However new owners have taken over and every time we go we see more improvements. It still has a long way to go to update the cabins to perfection. However, one must remember that they are chalets in the forest. The last visit was in June of this year. When we arrived it was +32!!! Our fridge did not have ice made so I went to the front desk to see if they had an ice machine…sorry no. But then Calsea, the front desk young lady said to wait as she had two trays of ice in her room. She returned with them for us! She was so helpful at all times (Please Management keep this girl she is doing a fantastic job!) When Calsea was off Ayla was there. We also found her to be very helpful. Nothing was a problem and these girls were both so friendly and because of the great front staff I believe our holiday began the way a holiday should …with excitement and fun. The bedlinen was spotless and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen (and I have found this the case in every chalet that we have stayed in) could do with a better cleaning, utensils etc. and wash out the drawers of the cupboards. We enjoy this peace of Heaven so much that we are looking forward to bringing our Irish relatives down this week. Three weeks in one year! And we will continue to go back. We have, by the way, stayed in a lot of the hotels in Banff and Canmore over 30 years…but we have found our spot for a peaceful and lovely holiday.

"Nice location, a little dated"

We have just returned from a week stay at this resort. The location was beautiful, with an awesome mountain view. Our first morning, a handsome bull elk wandered through our front yard as we sipped our coffee. Everything worked fine, and the Wi-Fi was strong and fast. However, as other reviewers have noted, the place could use a good deep cleaning. That said, I would definitely stay here again as the positives definitely outweigh a bit of dirt.

"Stay away"
07/13/15 Glenngpr Baldwin, New York
I traded into this dump through RCI, and from the moment I set foot on the grounds, I regretted it. On a positive, the scenery is breathtaking. But the property is in shambles. Layers of grit cover the interior and exterior walls. The window blinds are cheap, shoddy, too small for the window, and broken. As a result, the summer sun woke me up everyday at 5 am, whether or not I was ready. The bathrooms smelled of sewage, and the wireless was spotty at best. The property is in the middle of nowhere. I feel sorry for the people running this place. There's only so much they can do with no budget or directive from the managing agent.

"Wouldn't recommend it"
07/10/15 Svensk1 Nice, France
I recently stayed here with my husband, children (12 weeks & 3 yrs old) and my brother and his girlfriend who were visiting from Sweden. I had read the previous reviews I was prepared for the shabbiness and outdated decor, and hoped that our cabin would be reasonably clean as it seemed to be hit or miss on that account. As we arrived everything seemed fine, it was definitely outdated and very worn and could do with a complete renovation, but it was basically ok for our needs. We then went to use the BBQ, which was grubby to say the least, and it didn't work. After trying to work out what could be wrong, we went down to get a new propone gas can and got one to carry up to the cabin, turns out that the propane was fine, just the BBQ that was broken.. We managed to get it working eventually, but you'd expect it to work in the first place. About one hour in to our stay, there was a power failure (I think because of some building work going on down the road) and all power was off for about 3 hours, then the Internet was off for the rest of the evening. While I appreciate that Internet is not essential, it would have been nice to get some kind of notification or apology for the inconvenience. All in all its a very basic, shabby place to stay. If I was 18 and going with a bunch of friends to party I'd say it's the perfect spot, but otherwise, I'd say stay well away.

"Beautiful scenic location but ....."
06/05/15 Marylyn A Calgary, Canada
Unfortunately the chalets were very outdated, filthy, need upgrading, etc., etc., The kitchen requires an intensive cleaning, particularly the stove and hood. Windows filthy and the window sills full of dead insects. Broken down coffee table held up by a piece of wood on one corner - be careful you don't lean on it. The 4 panels of drapes filthy - 3 matched and the 4th one completely different. The entry room full of crawling red ants - coming through the crack in the main door. We asked the office to come and get rid of the ants, they eventually showed up and put 2 ant traps on the floor!! Good thing we were leaving the next day - the ants kept multiplying! Noticed that was a great deal of rubbish at the entry door - why don't they clean up the grounds? This "resort" could have great potential if the chalets were thoroughly cleaned and the furnishings updated. Too bad! The staff seemed friendly enough - but believe they need a manager who could get the place looked after.

We stayed at the Banff Gate Mountain Resort May 30 - June 1. It was a great family gathering. The resort is a bit run down; it was probably great in the 80's. The resort is comprised of approx. 45 A-frame cabins. "Lovely location, but our chalet was in poor condition."
06/01/15 RamblynRose Winnipeg, Canada
Beautiful location. Bedding and mattresses excellent. Great drinking water. Shabby furniture is bearable but not when it is dirty. It appeared only the bathrooms had been cleaned prior to our arrival. Floors were dirty, windows and mirrors dirty. Window screens had extra holes, and there was a large gap under the door. The kitchen was not particularly well stocked, and one of the bbq tools was dreadfully rusty. Because the hot water tank had not been activated there was no chance for a warm bath in the jetted tub the first night. The outdoor hot tub was full of debris. The grounds had been neglected.

06/01/15 Ge124 Bethesda, Maryland
We are staying here through RCI. Bathrooms looked like they weren't ever cleaned. Front desk service almost non-existent. 20 minutes from Banff and 5 from Canmore. Dated cabins, poorly supplied kitchens, but I feel compelled to give one star for having our own cabin and one star for the views.

The view from our unit was absolutely magnificent! Also, it had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen was well-stocked with appliances such as a blender, coffee pot, and microwave oven. Plenty of utensils. Two bedrooms, one upstairs with its own bathroom and one downstairs with a bathroom (not in-suite). Living room had a large TV. Free DVDs to sign out. Indoor pool and hot tub. It is in a quiet area. Deer wandered by frequently. Laundry facilities on site. We loved it!

We stayed here for a week in May and the staff working the front desk were fantastic! The cabins were cozy a little dated but that's the way a "cabin" should be. There was a great fireplace and BBQ even a jacuzzi tub. The grounds were nice and the location was good but you definitely need a car. If I could make one suggestion I would say they could use a good thorough cleaning but they are tidy and certainly are not off putting just some dirt in the corners and floors could use an good scrubbing.
