"Nice place away from the center!"
The hotel was clean, comfortable, and nicely located away from the noise and crowds of centraal. I wouldn't recommend it to a first time Amsterdam traveler, since it's a little off the beaten path, but for someone who has already done the central scene this is a great place, with great shops nearby. The wifi was a little on the weak end, though, and […] my room right behind the reception didn't have the same window access as others, but still - overall a great hotel! "Fantastic facility with great service"
Robert and his team were very attentive and accommodating during our stay at the ACH. The rooms are within an old historic building and are well appointed offering a local feel and experience to the stay. Surrounding neighborhood is lively without being too touristy. Will stay againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming room and location for walking"
We enjoyed a too brief stay. Close to the Rijks Museum as well as the three main canals for great walking to sites and restaurants. Our sleek, well-appointed room 14 had a balcony on the canal, nicely quite when balcony doors were closed, very comfortable bed. Enjoyed gourmet breakfast downstairs overlooking the canal.Genuine Expedia guest review
I booked this hotel as there wasn't room in the hotel I wanted. It was a pleasant compromise. I was upgraded as soon as I arrived, and the guy at the desk was incredibly helpful. The room was amazing in every way. I plan on using The Amsterdam Canal everytime I stay in town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, but standard room too narrow"
The hotel is located on a fairly busy street but a lot of the rooms face out the back, on to the canal. We had a standard room on the ground floor, which has canal views. Unfortunately the views were out of 3 porthole style windows, 2 of which were too high to see the canal. The bed was very comfortable but was 2 single beds pushed together with a large […] mattress protector over the top. The room was narrow so not enough room to walk down either side of the bed. Also there was no where to sit except on the bed. There was a desk and one chair, ok for working but not relaxing. Didn't find enough space to put things, like a cup of tea - all had to sit on the desk. The bathroom was lovely with a large rainfall shower, but again nowhere to put washbags except on the floor. Breakfast was fabulous with a great selection and a nice room in the basement overlooking the canal. Would recommend but perhaps the deluxe room would have the space I was looking for. "Expensive , cramped."
When we booked last minute our room at the Canal hotel we were swayed by overwhelmingly good reviews, on arrival we weren't quite greeted with the standard we were expecting. Immediately told to pay upfront because the room was non-refundable which made me dubious. After handing over a huge some of money we were ready to be shown to our room...behind […] the reception desk! Our room was a small dark corridor which had a bed wedged in at the end so that you could not walk around it or even spend time in the room, hot, humid &generally rubbish. We felt a little depressed for £420 this is not a room we were expecting, we complained rather angrily after not having any sleep at all that night, due to shouting in the reception as people trailed in & went up the stairs above our room :( it was just the worst and even more so knowing how much we had paid for the room. Breakfast was ok although coffee machine &plate area is immediately.placed at the bottom of the stairs so it's a bit chaotic getting in and out the dining room. The staff did apologise and later moved us to a room with views and a bath and all the space you need in a small room. Still not worth the amount of money asked for but It was hugely appreciated and made up for the night before. However we did feel like the bad guys for kicking up a fuss and dreaded bumping into any of the staff. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, small room."
No elevator, steep staircases with winders. No telephone in room, no lounge. Friendly, helpful staff, excellent breakfast, no public sitting area. Unsuitable for older guests.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Charming boutique hotel in museum quarter"
This hotel combines modern chic with old-style Amsterdam charm. The canal view rooms are long and quirky (you have to get into bed from the end!) but make you feel you are on a - very comfortable - long boat. Superb breakfast. The staff are young and very friendly and helpful especially when advising on local sights/restaurants. Super-cosy beds.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Personliga men små rum"

I stayed here for only one night, but had a really good night's rest as the room was clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, and the rain shower was good. Minibar was free, wifi connection was strong, toiletries and bedroom slippers were all provided. The decor in the room was nice and I had a canal view. Hotel staff were friendly. Although I had a room at the top floor and had to climb 3 levels of steep staircases, it was alright for me as I had minimal luggage.

I had been hoping for a positive experience. The hotel has no lobby and no restroom - only in the rooms. No elevator, steep staircases you need to traipse up and down as there are no telephones in the rooms. I got the smallest possible room for 150 E a night. When I thought I had lost my key (a card) I was told I would have to pay 50 Euro for it! The breakfast was good, the location excellent, but there are many hotels in the vicinity. not recommended for the price.
"Authentic and beautiful hotel"

I've been meaning to write this review since I stayed at the Amsterdam Canal Hotel in Jan: time has slipt away from me but I have very fond memories of this stay. This is a beautiful hotel: other reviews mention the steep, spiral staircase as a negative and I understand that it wouldn't suit everyone. But I loved being inside one of those tall, thin Dutch houses built when the tax was calculated on the floorplan! I had a marvellous room overlooking the canals and, in the winter light, it was just one Golden Age painting after another. I loved the excitment of this part of the city: people of all ages on bikes, pedalling along at full pelt with the greatest array of baskets on front and back. The hotel just places you right into the life of the city and it's all there to look at. Especially over breakfast which is a splendid array of treats, all served in a neatly packed room at canal level. The bed was comfortable; the bathroom was a masterpiece of design; the quirky end of Dutch taste is everywhere. Very keen to go back and hopeful that I can book the same room. Thanks to the charming staff for a terrific stay.

We had an excellent stay in this hotel. Clean room, comfy bed. The breakfast was amazing, i wish all the 3 star hotels have such a great choice for breakfast (fresh fruits, good tea and coffee, warm and soft bread, croissant). Close to the city center. I can only recommend to everyone!
"It could be excellent but"

We stayed 4 nights in august 2013. The hotel is quite expensive in comparison with the quality of the rooms, but has a nice breakfast place in front of a canal and it's not so far from bus stop. The design of the hotel is really nice and modern. Young guys at the reception are very kind and polite, but not too much expert. First day of arrival we have waited for our room until 3 p.m. and discovered that the deluxe room we've booked was near the reception, just in front of the street, air conditioning system was broken so hotel staff pretend to make the room colder with a machine that needed the window to remain open! After discussing more than an hour with the staff, the only thing they offered was to change with a standard room (really nicer and more quite than deluxe one) at the same price. It was not fair, but we decided to accept just because we didn't want to waste more time.
"Would happily recommend."
The hotel is well positioned and all major attractions are within a 20 minute walk. Hotel is on a small canal and breakfast can be had sitting on the terrace overlooking the water. I believe the rooms to the back of the hotel overlook the canal, we were at the front overlooking the road. Worth enquiring about this when booking as a room overlooking the canal would have been lovely. Rooms are well decorated and staff friendly. Breakfast consists of a cold buffet and eggs cooked to order. The hotel is not cheap, but seems to be on par with other similar hotels in Amsterdam. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.
"Fine but I'm sure you can do better"

Booked this hotel in a pinch so it's my own fault for poor planning. For my first time in Amsterdam, think I landed in a nice enough hotel that was pretty close to everything (10 min walk to Reikstag, 15 minutes to Jordaan and Anne Frank House). However, with no elevators and a room on the 4th floor -- with luggage -- I was growing more and more resentful of my stay by the day. The bathroom in the room was also a disaster...no privacy, water spilling everywhere from the shower. Also, they were in the middle of renovations or some kind of expansion - my room just reeked of dust and paint. They did offer to move me but I was so done with the idea of climbing more stairs with luggage that I just slept with my windows open. Comfortable bed and a great free breakfast - staff was pleasant - but I would not recommend.
"unnecessary and expensive"
negative points about this hotel as follows: 1-check in was very late and staff was not professional ( although we informed the hotel about our arrival time 2 days ago , the manager said that he didn't read the messages before ,and said that our room would be ready at 3.00 p.m) 2-there is no telephone in the rooms,so if you have any problems about your rooms, you should go down to reception by downstairs(we were on 3rd floor so you can imagine how we were disappointed ) 3-İt is just near to the canal but there is only one table outsıde to be able to sit down 4-the price is too high when compared to benefits 5-windows were too dirty, since there is no air condition in the rooms, when we opened the windows all the dirty powders fulled into the room. 6-no market around the hotel 7-no car parking area ,on street 4 Euro/hour or hotel parking in one day is 30 Euro positive points about the hotel as : 1-breakfast is good 2-location ıs ok but 15-20 minutes away from main locatıons by walking 3-room is small (we stayed in deluxe room!) but bahtroom is perfect.

My wife and I have just returned from 3 days at this hotel. Not as central to Amsterdam as I would have liked ( my fault not the hotels) but on a good tran route into the city centre. Taxi's in the region of 14 euros. A lovely hotel, the rear of which opens onto the canal,no lifts as it is in an old converted building, and stariways are spiral and narrow, not suitable for anybody with mobility issues. but the rooms are of a good standard, the staff are excellent and extreemly helpful. There is no air conditioning as such, but the air within the hotel is climate controlled, which is different, unfortunatly, this was not enough to cool the room on a very warm room and we found it to be very uncomfortable. The staff supplied a mobile air conditioner unit into the room, which worked very well in a heat wave of 30 degrees. Breakfast was superb, a continental style, with pleanty of choice. Overall the stay was very pleasant, a lovely hotel, the manager and staff were excellent and put a genuine effort into making our stay memouable, would we stay there again ???? answer.....A VERY BIG YES.
"Teething troubles, and possibly not yet right for "baby boomers""

This will become a great hotel, but there is some learning to be done. It's in a great location near big museums, and with funky Utrechtstraat round the corner. The decor is quite charming. The quality of the food at breakfast is outstanding. Great wifi. Comfortable beds. High quality toiletries. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, there are many aspects of the design which though great as "interior design" are poorly thought out for use by hotel guests. A look at Conrad Hilton's biography would help the owners sort these out. The bedrooms we used lacked space for desk/dressing table space was inadequate, and partly occupied by a Nespresso machine (without instructions), a Logitech radio alarm (with remote control but without instructions) and a kettle. No stand for baggage. Nowhere in bathroom to put one washbag, let alone two, so these had to go on the cluttered desk. The small sink in the bathroom was obscured by the large designer tap, so couldn't be used for washing face. The shower curtain fell down. There was no large scale mirror in teh bedroom to check appearance. There was no telephone in the room. Since the lift wasn't operating, the only way to contact staff was to descend the very steep staircase to the desk and ring the bell. The feature bedrooms, with beds overlooking the canal and porthole windows, are charmingly romantic in concept but aren't really suitable for baby boomers with weak bladders. It would be impossible to get up at night without climbing out of the bottom of the bed and disturbing one's partner. We changed to a room overlooking road, which had very good double glazing, and slightly more space to get in and out of bed. The breakfast room/bar was cramped. Nowhere to put down your plate while cutting bread, for example. Not enough space between tables. We got a good price through a booking.com special offer. Probably wouldn't stay there at ful price.
