"Nice, cozy hotel"
I had an adorable room - Room 35 - at the top floor if the hotel, with canal view. Excellent breakfasts, and it's a clean, comfortable hotel. 60 VERY steep steps -- almost like going up a ladder -- up to the third floor were daunting - but desk clerks helped get my suitcase up and down upon arrival and departure, but the stairs were a bit tough on my […] middle aged knees. No elevator. But good value, good location, safe neighborhood, helpful staff. Neighborhood is a bit quiet, but a few minutes walk to busier areas with shops and restaurants. A gorgeous warm hotel. Perfect location. Short walking distance from everything. If you have bad knees beware of hotel stairs!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice place away from the center!"
The hotel was clean, comfortable, and nicely located away from the noise and crowds of centraal. I wouldn't recommend it to a first time Amsterdam traveler, since it's a little off the beaten path, but for someone who has already done the central scene this is a great place, with great shops nearby. The wifi was a little on the weak end, though, and […] my room right behind the reception didn't have the same window access as others, but still - overall a great hotel! "Fantastic facility with great service"
Robert and his team were very attentive and accommodating during our stay at the ACH. The rooms are within an old historic building and are well appointed offering a local feel and experience to the stay. Surrounding neighborhood is lively without being too touristy. Will stay againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming room and location for walking"
We enjoyed a too brief stay. Close to the Rijks Museum as well as the three main canals for great walking to sites and restaurants. Our sleek, well-appointed room 14 had a balcony on the canal, nicely quite when balcony doors were closed, very comfortable bed. Enjoyed gourmet breakfast downstairs overlooking the canal.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Love the bath!"
Great hotel, amazing bath and a big room in a great location. Away from the hype of the city but near nice restaurants and close enough to walk to most tourist attractions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Amsterdam Canal Hotel"
Room was lovely and clean, well stocked and very friendly staff. Location of hotel was a 5 min tram ride away from Dam square but out enough to be peaceful for a good night’s sleep. Would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to my next stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for our quick weekend get away."
Quick weekend get away to Amsterdam. The hotel was tucked away in a quiet neighborhood with good walking proximity to the major attractions. That being said, we like to walk quite a bit, so for us it was perfect. Our room was really nice, larger than expected, and we had a nice view of a canal. Bathroom was very clean with a nice large tub. Breakfast […] was include, nice typical European light fair breakfast to start the day. The staff was very helpful. Good overall value. "A charming little hotel in old Amsterdam!"
Charming and delightful gently backing on to the canal. Terrifically airy and light modern rooms. Outstanding bathrooms of all things! An old Amsterdam canal house sensitively converted to a modern boutique hotel. Traditional and modern blended beautifully together. Honest rather than flash. The modern balance is perfect. The location couldn't be better […] - just between the museum district and the heart of the charming old Amsterdam which encourages some lovely picturesque strolls in the quieter back streets. The ONLY thing you need to be prepared for are all the stairs! No lift here (the 16th/17th century wasn't really aware of this coming! However do note all the hoists on the old houses through out Amsterdam - at least they knew getting furniture in was easier through the grand windows rather than the steep, narrow stairs!) I booked this hotel as there wasn't room in the hotel I wanted. It was a pleasant compromise. I was upgraded as soon as I arrived, and the guy at the desk was incredibly helpful. The room was amazing in every way. I plan on using The Amsterdam Canal everytime I stay in town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, but standard room too narrow"
The hotel is located on a fairly busy street but a lot of the rooms face out the back, on to the canal. We had a standard room on the ground floor, which has canal views. Unfortunately the views were out of 3 porthole style windows, 2 of which were too high to see the canal. The bed was very comfortable but was 2 single beds pushed together with a large […] mattress protector over the top. The room was narrow so not enough room to walk down either side of the bed. Also there was no where to sit except on the bed. There was a desk and one chair, ok for working but not relaxing. Didn't find enough space to put things, like a cup of tea - all had to sit on the desk. The bathroom was lovely with a large rainfall shower, but again nowhere to put washbags except on the floor. Breakfast was fabulous with a great selection and a nice room in the basement overlooking the canal. Would recommend but perhaps the deluxe room would have the space I was looking for. "Expensive , cramped."
When we booked last minute our room at the Canal hotel we were swayed by overwhelmingly good reviews, on arrival we weren't quite greeted with the standard we were expecting. Immediately told to pay upfront because the room was non-refundable which made me dubious. After handing over a huge some of money we were ready to be shown to our room...behind […] the reception desk! Our room was a small dark corridor which had a bed wedged in at the end so that you could not walk around it or even spend time in the room, hot, humid &generally rubbish. We felt a little depressed for £420 this is not a room we were expecting, we complained rather angrily after not having any sleep at all that night, due to shouting in the reception as people trailed in & went up the stairs above our room :( it was just the worst and even more so knowing how much we had paid for the room. Breakfast was ok although coffee machine &plate area is immediately.placed at the bottom of the stairs so it's a bit chaotic getting in and out the dining room. The staff did apologise and later moved us to a room with views and a bath and all the space you need in a small room. Still not worth the amount of money asked for but It was hugely appreciated and made up for the night before. However we did feel like the bad guys for kicking up a fuss and dreaded bumping into any of the staff. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Charming boutique hotel in museum quarter"
This hotel combines modern chic with old-style Amsterdam charm. The canal view rooms are long and quirky (you have to get into bed from the end!) but make you feel you are on a - very comfortable - long boat. Superb breakfast. The staff are young and very friendly and helpful especially when advising on local sights/restaurants. Super-cosy beds.Genuine Expedia guest review
Regarding the hotel, we were disappointed because it was not the first room we booked by hotel.com. According to the room was on the top floor, bringing much discomfort. The air conditioning does not work. On the other aspect, were not replenished soap and shampoo in daily cleaning. Other than that we like, but do not know if we would go back to staying […] at the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Fantastic hotel, lovely service. Beautiful room with view of the canal. Great breakfast. Only thing was the room was a little too warm and it seemed difficult to have it adjusted. "Personliga men små rum"

"Loved our stay here"
12/14/14 Carole M Yorkshire Dales National Park, United Kingdom
This is a nice clean hotel, with good facilities. We found it perfectly placed in Amsterdam for getting around to all areas, especially convenient for many trams which are a great way to get around the city. The food was good and there was a well-stocked mini bar. The staff were helpful and friendly. We had a double room with a very comfortable bed. The only drawback is that, as is usual in Amsterdam, we had to climb lots of stairs as our room was on the top floor and there was no lift, so if you are unable to do stairs, request a ground floor room, although breakfast is also served in the basement room so that could be a problem. All in all, we had a great time.
"A " must stay " hotel!!!! "
I booked this hotel for my boyfriend as a surprise for his birthday. When we arrived 2 hours early our room was already ready and the young lady took us there early with no problem.. We stayed in luxury ground room with a fantastic bath, small but clean room and awesome big bed. Breakfast fantastic better than some 4* hotels we have been.. Nice polite staff.. There is nothing to complaint about.. Very easy to find too..Thanks very much guys u made our stay in Amsterdam extra special.. See u next time
"Horses for courses - do not take the quadruple room"
12/02/14 brian_horwell London, United Kingdom
This hotel has many good points but sadly also some fairly bad points. On the plus side, 1) The staff are young, nice and helpful, 2) the hotel is attractive 3) The hotel is in a good location. If you want the museums and a quieter part of town this is where to be and there are good transport links for everything else and if you are happy to walk everything is accesable (nothing is that far in Amsterdam) On the down side: 1) We booked this hotel for the quadruple room. It claims to be a room suitable for 4 adults. IT IS NOT. The second room is just a room off the main room and is a cupbaord that has just a double bed, nothing else could fit in there. We had friends staying the saturday night of a three night stay and we ended up booking another hotel for them. There was no way we could share, it was way too small. The managers comment (Roger, who was a very nice guy), when I questioned him on the size of the room for four adults was, "I wouldn't share a room with other adults anyway". He also stated the dimensions are on the website, something I did not look at! THis room ended up costing me €320 a night and it is not worth it. Even with children you would struggle unless they are happy to share a bed as there is not enough space in the room to separate the beds even an inch! The room is just a bed! 2) Our room only had one room key for four adults! As the Residence is a different door, everytime either my wife or I left the room, we had to leave take the key out of the power unit so all the lights went off so we could get back in! Just rediculous 3) The quadruple room is above the kitchen with a stairwell that directly accesses the kitchen outside the door so from 6.30am you are suffocated by cooking bacon and woken by the noise 4) there are no phones in the room - to access reception you have to take your one key from the power unit to go out into the cold to speak to reception (the other manager, not Roger) explained to my wife we are a 3* hotel so we do not have phones. This was not the case for the Residence which we were told was 4*, but whatever, still a stupid comment and a very irritating ommission from the room 5) you cannot stay there for any period of time, especially if you wish to use both rooms - Our room had no shelves! None! It had a small cupboard to hang clothes but absolutely no draws or shelves to put anything else so you have to live out of your suitcase 6) whilst the design looks state of the art, in typical dutch fashion, some of it has been done cheaply. All of the bathroom fittings are plastic, which do not last, so the shower unit is falling apart, all the movings parts come off in your hands 7) We had some cash stolen from the room. In fairness it is our fault as we left it out on the side and it was only £50 but sad all the same. I liked the hotel despite everything and would potentially stay again because I liked the staff and the ambiance but I would never stay in the quadruple room again and not in the Residence (too much agro getting in and out!).

First of all I must tell that the hotel was very clean. The breakfast was nice with variety ,but , the room was extremely hot . We woke up during the night in order to open the windows and take a shower. Also the bathroom is separated from the room by a transparent glass and it is not comfortable for someone to go to the toilet under these circumstances. The most important and inappropriate thing that I have to mention is that they blocked from our card an amount for cancellation fees even we checked in the agreed date. I was trying to contact them by email but nobody answered me . The amount unblocked from my card almost 3 weeks later
"A Bijoux residence"

My wife and I visited Amsterdam this month (November) for the first time in over 20 years. We decided to treat ourselves to a nice hotel and The Amsterdam Canal Hotel did not disappoint. The rooms are furnished to a very high standard with every comfort. The staff were lovely and very helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was good with hot food cooked to order. The hotel is a little out of the centre but well connected by tram. It is a 10 minute walk to Rembrandtsplein with it's bars and restuarants and a further 5 minutes to Dam Square. A word of warning a taxi from the railway station to the hotel cost us 20 euros! Catch the tram. The hotel helpfully gives you directions on how to get there. Our fault for not taking notice of them! We had a canal view room and I would strongly recommend paying that little bit extra - it was worth it. A word of warning for anyone with mobility issues or a medical condition. The stairs are very steep and there is no lift. Make sure you ask for a room on one of the lower floors.
"A lovely small hotel close to museums and galleries"
11/25/14 Jobyscoby Wellington, New Zealand
I stayed five nights at this hotel and found it to be very comfortable and conveniently located. My room was really large - not typical in Europe so this was much appreciated. An excellent breakfast was served downstairs, with the option to order eggs and pancakes (the pancakes were delicious!). My room was very clean with a lovely bathroom, and although it overlooked the street, it was generally pretty quiet. The only annoyance was the wifi which was erratic. However there were plenty of free wifi spots around the city which was good.

its a nice small hotel with small rooms which are clean. the one we stayed had a nice jacuzzi bath tub. the steps are very narrow and steep and has no elevator. if you have heavy baggage it can be back breakiing to carry it up. the staff are very friendly and the breakfast is good. location is walking distance to musuems and canals.
"Excellent stay at a truly wonderful hotel !"
11/02/14 Caroline R Shoreham-by-Sea, United Kingdom
We loved our stay here , our room was beautifully decorated and very clean , bed was the comfiest I have ever slept in , coffee machine in the room and tea making facilities plus the added bonus of uk channels on the TV ! The breakfast was amazing a choice of fruit , cold meats and cheeses , cereal and pastries plus extra s cooked to order would definetly recommend the pancakes ! Also the hotel is an ideal position for exploring the museum area and on a tram stop for exploring the rest of the city . Yes our room was on the top floor but not a problem if your are reasonably fit , would like a canal facing room next time but was lovely to watch the bikes whiz zing by in the mornings Would highly recommend this hotel and would definetly return if I had the chance to visit amsterdam again ! Also all staff were attentive and friendly and we felt very welcome .

Lovely rooms, very comfortable bed and plenty of great quality breakfast choices. Modern and functional bathroom We will visit again! Great friendly staff and good locality to nice areas to see. Very windy and steep stairs - quite the norm in Amsterdam and to be expected.

Hotel is in a good location for exploring Amsterdam - on foot or via trams. Friendly, helpful staff. The room (standard) was clean and comfortable but rather small, double bed positioned right next to the window. However OK for a short stay. The bed itself was extremely comfortable. The front rooms are on a busy road and there is some traffic noise, but not too disruptive. The bathroom was also rather small but again OK for a short stay. But the hotel is an old converted house and does retain some of its character, including steep stairs, but these are not too strenuous to climb. In fact it was quite novel to stay in. The breakfast was excellent (8..00-11.00) fresh fruit, cereal, breads, croissants, pastries etc with the option of a freshly cooked choice also and served in a very relaxed environment.
