"Eco.. Realy?"
This property is out of town. No walking to anywhere. They use the word 'eco' extensively, but 10 minutes after we forgot our reusable container at breakfast with a strudel from last night, it was chucked into the garbage..? OK place to be if you are looking to be further from shops and have own car.

"Quiet peaceful country setting with helpful staff"
Two km out of LaFortuna on one of the bumpiest roads. They call it a Costa Rican massage. Only $3.50 taxi from LaFortuna to this peaceful country environment with forest and small stream. Three nights of restful sleep after full days of tours were a welcome. Breakfasts complete but not expansive buffet in an open dining environment. Staff very helpful in all matters of room requests, tour advice, and in general pleasing personalities. The room does not have a table for placing personal things or working with a computer, which is important in these days of travel where the Internet is integral for planning and communicating. Internet signal good most of the time in the rooms except during rains. Phone service excellent.

"Great place and beautiful grounds"
We had a great stay at Eco Arenal. We only stayed one night, but I wish we could stay longer and take advantage of the beautiful grounds and the pool. We arrived earlier than the check-in time and after checking that our rooms are ready the manager on duty let us check -in. The rooms were roomy and very clean and neat. All the villas looked great( we booked 3 units) and well maintained. The grounds are so beautiful, with many different kinds of flowers, bushes and trees it feels like you in the botanical garden. The villas are also located outside the busy touristic area so it is super quiet and relaxing. The breakfast, which is included, was simple, but very delicious. We had rice and beans( it is served everywhere and with every meal in Costa Rica), scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes, fresh papaya, pineapple, bananas, bread basket, coffee, tea, orange juice. It is served starting at 7AM, so we had plenty of time to enjoy before going out to our activities. We were 8 adults in our group and everyone agree that we will stay there again if we're lucky to go back to Costa Rica.

"Good stay but staff could be more straightforward"
Nothing outstanding about the room, just an expected three star hotel. The staff was very polite, but not very useful. - Asked for an extra towel, but it never showed up. - We were suggested to do the hanging bridges with a "small" fee (we would think it meant no more than $10), but actually it was $24 each person for a walk less than 2 hours with a little kid. Nothing against the hanging bridges, it was pleasant to see and walk. Just the staff could be honest and straightforward. - The restaurant is pretty expensive and a little deceiving. They had the menu in a small little charcoal board (nothing fancy), three simple options (chicken, pork, pasta). We wouldn't think each of them actually meant a three course meal and $20 something each. We didn't know at that time and even ordered one for our three year old, and ended up with a bill of $65 and plenty leftover. Again, nothing bad about the food, but just wish things were a little more transparent, so we can make the best decision without feeling being cheated. If we had tons of money to spare as the staff assumed, we wouldn't have stayed in a three star hotel.

"Beautiful property"
The property was really nice Nice pool. Front desk person friendly and helpful. Rm was rough. We closed windows to try to block out barking dog and AC was a beastly loud machine that froze the rm but without it the room was a sauna. Big hole in wall covered w lattice. Shower didn't work.

"Villas Eco Arenal Review"
Hotel location is wonderful. Had extremely positive experience with staff. They were amazing people. We stayed there for two nights. We will stay there again if we have another opportunity to visit Costa Rica. I would highly recommend this place. Very Eco friendly. Rooms are not that great but all other things outweigh rooms.

"Fulfilled its duty"
It was a decent hotel to stay for a few nights. The price a night was good for the area. The hotel is situated on a dirt road about 1 1/2 miles from the center of Fortuna where all the restaurants and shops are. The hotel is about 20 mins from the volcano. Our view from our room had a great view of the volcano. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Great free breakfast every morning however, no other food is served. It had a nice size pool, basketball court, and a little soccer field. Overall, we had a great stay for 2 adults and 2 children ages 4 and 7.

"Beautiful grounds"
The room was simple and clean. Arrived at night 15 minutes past closing due to getting lost by GPS. But lucked out staff was still there and were very nice. It was pouring out and they helped me with my luggage and turned on the light. Then in the morning had the best breakfast and the man at the desk gave me tips (in English) on best places to sightsee, i.e., Arenal Hanging Bridges, hot springs, etc.

Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The beds were too hard for my preference, but I think that's prevalent in the country. It was 2 km down a rocky road, but the place itself was nice.

"Nice Place, No Frills"
This is a nice little collection of Cabinas a short distance from downtown La Fortuna. However, a vehicle is required to get anywhere -- nothing is within 1 or 2 kilometers. The place is quiet, neat, and clean... nothing fancy. The on-site outdoor restaurant was pleasant, although the operating hours are short.

"Wonderful stay - with wonderful staff!!!!"
We had a wonderful stay here! We visited villas eco arenal with about 20 persons. The staff went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable!!! I organised a surprise birthday party, where Eduardo came with the initiative to arrange a birthday cake - which was stunning -, organised a local folkloristic dance group, and they reserved and decorated the whole restaurant for us.

"Hôtel-bungalows dans la nature."
Des bungalows dans un parc, à l'écart de La Fortuna. Environnement très calme. Nous avons vu des oiseaux colorés (colibris et autres) et un singe qui n'était pas du tout apprivoisé. La piscine pour nager quand on revient d'excursion est très agréable. Le personnel est très souriant (encore plus que dans nos autres hôtels du Costa Rica).

"Quiet place"
We liked the place. Other than that nothing special. A/C, fridge, and TV really needs to be changed as they are falling apart. Breakfast was self-service. It had coffee, juice, eggs and ham, rice and beans, pre-toasted bread, butter, jams, and sliced fruits. No evening restaurant.

"nice clean and comfortable stay"

clean and nice place and would go back again for sure! we were pleasantly surprised, I was a bit unsure because it was such a good price. It was about a very short drive to the town. We went with a big group of friends and everyone was very happy. The staff was helpful and friendly, great service. The place was very clean, the gardens were beautiful, the kids had a great time in the pool and hanging out near the river. The breakfast was good. All in all we were very happy with our decision and would definitely go back again.

"Breakfast with a view!"
04/29/15 Ruth en Vincent M The Hague, The Netherlands
Unlike to large resorts/hotels in La Fortuna, Villas Eco Arenal is a nice and quiet lodge with a good view (if the clouds allow) of the Arenal vulcano. The room was clean, air conditioned and had a nice view. The breakfast was prepared by a friendly lady, who made sure we had a proper start of the day. The gardener must have quite some work to maintain the property as goodlooking as we have seen it. The reception staff was friendly and supportive in planning our activities. We had a great stay in La Fortuna.

"Great value and fantastic views of Arenal"

We stayed here with our 5 year old son for two weeks, using it as our base as we travelled around North and Central Costa Rica. The grounds are wonderful for spotting wildlife and the whole place is wonderfully peaceful. The breakfast included was really great. All staff were fantastic and particularly helpful when we had some issues contacting a tour operator we had been organising a canoe safari with. Really great accessability to La Fortuna. We had a fantastic stay.

"Clean lovely property. Would stay here again."
03/24/15 Holograman New Haven, Connecticut
Stayed here for 2 nights in early March. First time in Arenal region, didn't want to pay $250+ for hot springs resort type places, just seems too much for the area. Found rooms here under 100 per night. It's a five minute drive from La Fortuna down solid dirt road, has lovely grounds and considerate helpful staff. As with all my reviews, the "star" rating is based on similar properties in the same local. The rooms are lovely and feel fairly private, sharing a wall with one other room. Nice little stream running through property to sit by, and small pool overlooking vulcano also a plus. Breakfast was cooked eggs to order one day and buffet eggs the other, both very nice with fresh juice good coffee etc. included in price. Very quiet off the beaten track so much better than downtown properties.

This was a great location by the town of LaFortuna. Only 2 km from main road. We are very happy not to have stayed in the town.Very nice grounds and breakfast was decent. A/C did not work in our room on our last night and no one at the front desk did anything about it when we told them about it. They told us we must of done something to the remote? Check in and out was super easy and quick.Would have liked a little fridge to keep some food and snacks. There are roosters at 4:00 am so there is no sleeping in here. Pool is great and warm.

"Convenient location - Beautiful grounds - Great staff!"
01/25/15 solcito_cr Atlanta, GA
Perfect location: just a few minutes north of La Fortuna downtown, this hotel gives you quick access to all the amazing tours and activities available in the Arenal volcano area, without compromising your need for a relaxing atmosphere. It's easily accessible by car (there's a small section of the road that is not paved, as you get closer to the hotel, but it is in perfect condition. An easy drive for the Toyota Yaris that we had rented!) Beautiful Grounds: The gardens are well kept and there's a little river that runs on the back of the property. The pool area is great for star gazing at night, while enjoying a glass of wine (or doing yoga while looking at the volcano on the back!) I liked the concept of individual rooms/villas (as opposed to one single building) surrounded by beautiful gardens with colorful flowers in bloom. Our room (one level villa on the back) was clean and comfortable, just perfect for our group of 4 people! Yummy food: We enjoyed breakfast (especially the home made marmalades) and lunch (perfectly seasoned beef stew served with rice, black beans, sweet plantains, picadillo and salad = "casado") at the hotel's restaurant: an open space with lots of breeze and plenty of opportunities to do bird watching without leaving your table!) Diego, the owner, was very helpful in recommending a number of activities in the area as he grew up there. We got the best deals in our tours by booking through the hotel, with Diego's help. Overall, a very pleasant and relaxing experience just a few minutes from all the highlights in the area!

I was there with a group of 15 people. All of our cabins were small but were kept clean and had all the essentials (A/C, hot water, fast WIFI). The breakfast included was delicious typical Costa Rican food and fresh tropical fruits. The cabins are surrounded by beautiful gardens with flowers and trees and a creek runs by the hotel property. We were able to spot an iguana and several colorful birds.

Stayed 1 night. Be careful booking with Expedia! They undercharged us which meant we had to pay the difference at check in. Front desk guy was reasonable and cut us a deal, as they were in the middle of terminating their contract with Expedia. Beautiful hotel and grounds, rooms were spacious, comfortable, clean - all around excellent. Fast WiFi, hot water and cold A/C! Plus they were private with their own balcony if you're not interested in the several common areas provided. Gorgeous river flowing by the grounds where you can spot frogs at night! Good sized in-ground pool, short drive from city center and other attractions in town. Service was bilingual and professional, didn't eat at the restaurant other than free breakfast, which was quite good, because it seemed expensive otherwise.

If you are looking for a hotel in la fortuna this is it!! Beautiful gardens and trails, we saw some monkeys a lot of birds, blue jeans frogs inside of the property!!, breakfast was included and it was quite good, the parking lot in front of our room was very convenient We made our reservation by e-mail directly with them, at the moment we arrived in the hotel everything was perfect, Eduardo helped us with directions and he gave us the best recommendations ever, we are not the type of family that goes with guided tours but he always made sure that we had the best time, its the type of service that you get in a 5 stars place with concierge and everything for only 130 dollars!

Our cabin at Eco Arenal was small, but had all the essentials including wi-fi. It was clean and cozy and the breakfast was included every morning. The food was good and fresh and the grounds were beautiful with flowers and tropical plants everywhere. There was a stream running along the property and lots of birds and squirrels to entertain you.
