"Fulfilled its duty"
It was a decent hotel to stay for a few nights. The price a night was good for the area. The hotel is situated on a dirt road about 1 1/2 miles from the center of Fortuna where all the restaurants and shops are. The hotel is about 20 mins from the volcano. Our view from our room had a great view of the volcano. The staff was very helpful and friendly. […] Great free breakfast every morning however, no other food is served. It had a nice size pool, basketball court, and a little soccer field. Overall, we had a great stay for 2 adults and 2 children ages 4 and 7. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
location is superb, very nice looking buildings and room. road is not paved, but OK. problem with the smell in a bathroom. otherwise very goodGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice view. Away from noise. Many birds. Calm. Room was ok, my hot water has problem. My TV doesnt work. The wall seems to be thin because u hear their TV very well.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room was simple and clean. Arrived at night 15 minutes past closing due to getting lost by GPS. But lucked out staff was still there and were very nice. It was pouring out and they helped me with my luggage and turned on the light. Then in the morning had the best breakfast and the man at the desk gave me tips (in English) on best places to sightsee, […] i.e., Arenal Hanging Bridges, hot springs, etc. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The beds were too hard for my preference, but I think that's prevalent in the country. It was 2 km down a rocky road, but the place itself was nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel for families"
Staff service was good! The rooms were decent. Breakfast was good! Not bad deal for the price. The Hotel entrance is a little bumpy road which if fixed can make this Hotel very attractive option for the price .Genuine Expedia guest review
Bueno Bonito y BaratoGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We liked the place. Other than that nothing special. A/C, fridge, and TV really needs to be changed as they are falling apart. Breakfast was self-service. It had coffee, juice, eggs and ham, rice and beans, pre-toasted bread, butter, jams, and sliced fruits. No evening restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel is slightly out of town but very quiet and relaxing. Takes 5 min by car or 15 min walk. Rooms were clean, a/c good with wifi. Have a restaurant but not sure what hours are as we were there with a large group. Staff friendly but only man front desk in day time.
"cute place located just outside of La Fortuna town"

this place has several one story villa type buildings and townhouses that were build about 4 years ago. We stayed in the townhouse building which consists of 4 rooms with private balconies that had a table and chairs to hang out on. The room had ac, a small fridge and tv which was hard to figure out the remote. The kids finally got it. Nice pool and basketball court for the kids to play at. the backside of the villa consists for forested areas and we saw a sloth and heard Mantled Howler males making noise one morning. Food was great and the staff was very nice. One person in our party wasn't feeling good and the staff made her a special tea and toast for her upset stomach. close to town- about a 2 km walk.

The hotel has very nice and spacious bungalow rooms. The bathroom is clean. The bed is comfortable. Breakfast is sufficient. Nice swimming pool for kids. The personal is very polite and there is always someone at the front desk to help you. Worth the $30 a night.
"Quiet, beautiful, quaint hotel near Fortuna"

I have stayed here on six separate occasions since 2009. I prefer this location for the quiet. There are no drunk American twentysomethings here hooting and hollering like you'll find en el centro. This is a peaceful place where wildlife abounds. I'm a birdwatcher, and I have personally seen 61 different species of birds on the property, including white-crowned parrots, aracaris, toucans, and countless tanagers. Parakeets fly over all the time, but they don't ever land. Along the creek in the trees I've seen a sloth, large iguanas, smaller lizards, and on the ground the famous bluejeans frog. Last month, I was walking along the creek and I surprised (and he me) a Blue Heron feeding. He took off with a few angry squawks in my direction. The swimming pool is clean and surrounded by flowers where hummingbirds come to feed. The grounds have been landscaped with flora designed to attract animals, especially birds. The rooms have good air conditioning (some of them can be a little noisy), small refrigerators (a nice luxury in the San Carlos heat), and hot water. The toilet paper holders are in odd places, and some of the beds can be very hard. I find the ones on the 2nd floors to be much softer. The staff are very helpful; there are always fresh flowers artfully arranged on the beds when we check in. The grounds crew loves to show my kids the bluejeans frogs. The reception folks even gave our bus driver a free room once so that he didn't have to stay in town (and we wait on him). If you don't have a car, the hotel is 2km from the park, and it'll cost about $4.50 (2014) to get to the hotel via taxi. Canopy tours and other tourist things will come pick you up there. This is my preferred affordable place to stay in Fortuna, and I will always go back here unless something drastic changes. For the price, I think it's as nice as any place in the country.

I booked this room because of the good reviews but I do not agree with them after staying 2 nights. The mattress was thin, lumpy, and you can feel the springs. The television has such bad video feed, we ended up listening to the cnn channel as if it was the news radio. The room is damp and musty unless the ac is on high. And just FYI- the breakfast is not worth the price of $7 per person (if they charge you.)

This place was not so great! Air conditioner sounded like a jet plane! The room smelled like sewage. Could not get a drink and we needed one here!!Food service poor!!! Young middle school group stayed here and were loud. We only stayed because we were with a group or we would have left. There was no one at the desk after seven PM if you had an emergency. The entire group was unhappy with it!!!!
"Great Place to relax"

They have a pool and a nice landscape. its the perfect place to relax with freinds and its really close to the center of La fortuna. The service was great, everyone is really nice and the breakfast was good too. Def would go back there.

We stayed in this hotel for one week with our toddler. She was thrilled with the small pool, perfect for her size. The water is absolutely perfect. The garden at the back is beautiful and calm. A real invitation to contemplation. The service is perfect: housekeepers and reception staff are amazing. They are helpful, very kind and know very well the area. Perfect stay in La Fortuna !
"Wonderful experience for all"

We were a group of fourteen students and two teachers on a service trip to Costa Rica combining fun, adventure, studying flora and fauna, and working with children. Villas Eco Arenal took great care of us from the moment we arrived. The manager and staff were kind, caring, and made sure we had everything we needed. There were many attentions to details such as flower petals on our bed when we arrived, delicious meals with fresh fruits, and vegetables, served buffet style. The cook and wait staff seemed to really take pride in what they served, and I felt as though we were a guest in a friend's gracious home. The grounds are well taken care of, as is the lovely pool which has a beautiful view of the volcano. The property is quiet and calm, and in the morning we went to the river in back of the rooms. We even found an owl when we went for a walk at dusk. It is obvious that the people who run the hotel, and the staff care so much. I give Eco Arenal the highest of ratings and hope to return one day soon!
