"Newly opened gem"
Spur of the moment overnight booking found through the website. On arrival greeted by Geraint and made extremely welcome. The room was immaculate, luxurious and lots of thought had gone into the refurbishment of the whole hotel with every need catered for. The Superking bed was extremely comfortable and breakfast served in the room the next morning […] was simply fantastic. This is a gem of a place to stay at and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Can't wait to stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"fantastic b & b"

Small friendly, and excellent location. has to be the finest b & b in the county, let alone this small market town. Adrian's attention to detail is second to none. the breakfast menu is extensive, the quality is exceptional. Throughly recommended - my only reservation is that there are only 2 bedrooms and once this secret is out, getting a reservation will not be easy!

Just returned from spending two days in Barnard Castle and stayed at this wonderful establishment. The rooms are lovely and big, immaculately clean and luxuriously furnished but with all the mod cons you could wish for - large TV, Blue Ray player, ipod dock, free wi-fi plus a silent small fridge containing fresh milk and complimentary bottles of water and soft drinks. The bed was huge, superbly comfy and the bathroom has a wonderful rain shower with large fluffy towels and dressing gowns to snuggle into when you get out. The breakfasts - well where do I start - I don't think I have had a better breakfast anywhere! Served in our room at a pre-arranged time by Adrian they were absolutely delicious - freshly made smoothies, beautifully arranged fresh fruit and yoghurt, cooked breakfasts, toast, croissants, delicious home-made marmalade and jam and tea by the gallon. There is so much choice I wish we could have stayed longer just to try all the different items on the breakfast menu. Everyday there were lovely biscuits waiting for us and when we came back from the Bowes Museum on the second day of our visit there was a slice of cake waiting for us (a lovely touch as it was hubby's birthday that day), as well as a tray with two champagne glasses and a bowl of nibbles as Adrian had noticed the bottle of bubbly we had placed in the fridge and thoughtfully provided these for us to enjoy it - it is the little things like this, the attention to detail that makes Gordonhouse such a wonderful place to stay. You feel at home straightaway and if there is anything you need Adrian is just a phonecall away. Gordonhouse is situated just a very short walk from the Bowes Museum which we visited as well as Barnard Castle town centre itself. We spent a lovely couple of hours down by the river which was just 10 minutes walk from Gordonhouse - watching kingfishers and other little birds flitting about on the waters edge. We enjoyed a delicious meal on the second evening in the nearby Bengal Merchant - one of the restaurants recommended by Adrian and definitely worth a visit. Although we couldn't manage lunch after the huge breakfasts we had enjoyed we did pop into Shirl's Shakes which I would recommend for a very tasty milkshake although prepare to be blown away by the choice of flavours!! All in all a great couple of days in wonderful accomodation, we couldn't have stayed in a better place and a big thank you to Adrian for making it so perfect. If you are visiting Barnard Castle and need somewhere to stay then don't look anywhere else!!

Attention to detail, clinically clean, fantastic food, lots of extras, great bathroom, huge bed, luxurious comfort and very well looked after. Don't look any further - the best accommodation in Barnard Castle.
"Our best ever B and B experience"

We chose Gordon House on the basis of reviews, and we were not disappointed. The room was superbly appointed and had everything we could have needed (and more….too many biscuits? extra cakes?!), and breakfast was beautifully cooked and presented, with masses of choice. The vegetarian option with the cheese is definitely enticing. Adrian is really helpful and pointed us in all the right directions. If I had to find a criticism - and just how picky can you get? - it was that the print on the shampoo (etc) bottles was so small that I couldn't read them without my specs…..Seriously, this is a great B and B and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone. Thank you for a great stay.

This was our second visit to Gordon House and we enjoyed our stay as much as we did the first time we visited. It's not just the little extra touches, like home made cake and preserves that make it special. Our room on the first floor was lovely, the bed was really comfy and everywhere is spotlessly clean. The breakfast, served in your room by Geraint is excellent with plenty to choose from. We liked it so much we have booked another visit.

This was an amazing stay. Wish we had stayed longer. Room was huge, bigger tv than ours at home, blu-ray and digibox, plus a supply of DVD's to watch. The decor was first class and a lot of work has gone into making this somewhere very special. Close to all shops and restaurants. We went for an early dinner at a local curry house and then back and watched a DVD. So relaxing. Breakfast was excellent. Loved the omelette and the home made jams. Geraint was the perfect host and everyone should visit this B&B.

Do yourself a favour and book yourself into this little gem of a B&B. Our room was on the ground floor and was beautifully appointed. Lots of attention to detail, clip on book lights and ear plugs in both bedside tables, a torch in the wardrobe, underfloor heating in the bathroom a 42" 3D TV and a selection of BluRay discs, remote control lighting dimmers, sample menus from local restaurants... the list continues. The host, Geraint, delivers breakfast to your room and there is a big selection available. My wife's omelette and my smoked salmon on scrambled egg were lovely as were the home made marmalade and jam. It felt a bit like having your own private butler! Book via the B&B's own web site as Geraint will match any other on-line deal. This is about as good as accommodation gets. Very, very highly recommended.
"Why would anyone stay anywhere else!"

Little did I know exactly what we would find when I booked an overnight stay in this B&B. Geraint has thought of everything to create a welcoming haven for travellers. I could ramble on about it's 5 star quality, the beautiful décor, luxury fixtures and fittings and lots of gadgets, but seriously, visit and check them all out yourself! Also I must not forget the wonderful, freshly prepared breakfast, delivered to your room. My husband and I stopped here on our way to Scotland, I just wish we could have stayed longer. I don't know when we will be back in this neck of the woods, but when we do, I won't be looking at anywhere else to stay but here. Thank you Geraint - you have created a little gem.
"The most exceptional B and B in the north"
05/17/14 Chiara M Barnard Castle, United Kingdom
What a find. We have been fortunate to stay here to go fly fishing over the weekend and I find it difficult to describe it to do it the justice it deserves. The decor, facilities and overall cleanliness are truly of a 5 star quality and I don't think I have ever been made to feel so welcome by our host. If you are looking or a wonderful place and you are fortunate to be in the area I would suggest you pay it a visit. One night, however is not enough time for you to utilise all the gadgets and accessories in the room... I'd rather stay in than head to the river to catch trout!
"Excellent B&B of Highest Quality"

Hard to say more than has already been said by other reporters, but you must stay here. So far we have been twice in the last four months and have booked again for later in the year. It is that good. Geraint is a caring and exceptional host and nothing is too much trouble. Everything is brand new and rooms are spotless with every amenity and wonderfully comfortable beds. Modern en suite shower rooms. Breakfast choice is extensive, delicious and all is prepared/cooked to order and served in your room arriving course by course. On street parking and all Barnard Castle attractions are within walking distance of Gordon House.
