"best price luxury hotel"
It was the best hotel for the value with all the amenities of a luxury hotel and very spacious. The only bad thing is that it was a bit far from the center of town. If u learn your way around then its worth it otherwise you might want to stay closer to town for convenience. I loved it. Thank you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"a very basic econo box hotel"
i travel tons and never write reviews, but i do read those written by the rest of you...(thank you)...what i look for are comments re bed comfort, internet quality, and any red flags... i am writing this one to set the record straight, as i felt a bit mislead by the prevailing view of this place. it is not that they do any thing wrong, just that it […] is a very basic econo box, not deserving at all of its aggregate score of 4.3 it is clean, this is its redeeming feature. everything else...the bed, the furniture, the AC, the bath, the internet are budget-like and devoid of any comfort or value. the bed is hard, the AC just over it, so good luck sleeping...and the internet is sub par, forget any notion of a skype phone call, let alone video call. in a land where having hotels exceed your expectations is the norm, this one is an exception, for the wrong reasons. The hotel and staff were excellent, very good value. Room was large and comfortable. The 5th floor had a private workout area and pool. Staff constantly cleaning , well maintained. "Decent price service apartment with good security"
It is a decent price service apartment which is generally cheaper than most 3-star hotels in Bangkok. It provides shuttle bus to nearby MRT but without shuttle bus the walking distance is quite a bit thus will need to rely on taxis. Overall very satisfied with what I get though you need to be familiar with the route getting into the small Soi.Genuine Expedia guest review

Free swimming pool and fitness suite. Rooms are well sized and good air conditioning. Worth a stay.

"Not for first time travel to Bangkok"
03/16/15 Debroughe72 Adelaide, Australia
I really enjoyed this place. Its an older building in a residential part of bangkok. Not many tourists but if your looking for the local side of BKK its perfect. Right outside the Hotel you have many places to experience traditional thai food cooked right on the street. Get a good map because if you dont have a good memory when walking around you will get lost. I will definately stay here again.
"Very friendly, big rooms, basic but comfortable"
03/09/15 J0nathanK Dalry, Scotland
Two things you need to know before chosing this hotel: (1) you need to leave a 1000 Baht deposit (about 20 UKP and probably about 30 USD) that you get back when you check out assuming you haven't trashed the room (2) Internet is not free, it is 100 Baht (2 UKP) for a 24-hour period. Factor these in and two of the main complaints from guests are dealt with. The room was very big, and the bed was big and comfortable. It was very thoroughly cleaned every day, and had a bath and shower with water that was just about hot enough when on fully hot. The room did feel a little dated in places, but no worse than what I would expect of a hotel at this price and certainly never put me off. I never had any issue with insects/bugs. There was plenty of hanging/cupboard space. There was air-conditioning and a fairly big fridge, but I didn't use either. The one slightly negative point for someone paranoid like myself was that the in-room safe was not screwed into the wall, so in theory someone could come in and leave with the entire safe. Tips: make sure you lock the door properly when you leave, it is no good just shutting it - you have to use the key to lock it. Check before you leave that it doesn't open without a key. Likewise make sure you lock the patio door properly, the slot has to go up for it to lock. The sockets could take either a European or US/Japan style plug. The staff were always very friendly and smiling and the security man would open the door and salute you! I never used the restaurant, so many much cheaper options around, include a 7-11 store just a few steps away. The pool area was nice. Quite small, only about 10 sunbeds, but I never saw them all taken, there was usually just a few people whenever I went there (and sometimes just me!). Shade is at a premium by the pool, but there are areas under a pagoda. Couldn't pick up the hotel wifi from the pool though. The internet was generally very good. It was easily able to cope with general browsing and uploading pictures to facebook. As I mentioned you have to get internet cards from reception which last 24 hours from when you first login. I found it only covered one device though. Much more reliable than most hotel wifi, but the occasional outage did happen. Logging in was easy and it clearly showed you when your 24 hours (or whatever period you had bought) was up. In terms of location, it is a 15-minute walk to the nearest tourist-friendly public transport (Phra Ram 9 MRT Station). But to be honest I really enjoyed that walk, you get to see things you wouldn't see if you were in a tourist hotspot. You walk past real Thai lives - workshops with fully open fronts making clothes and repairing cars, even at 2am I have seen those hardworking people beavering away. There is a minibus laid on by the hotel, but the chances of it running when I left the hotel are remote, and the chances of getting it back to the hotel even less. If I was coming to Bangkok with my wife (who has a slight back issue) I think the location would be enough for me to chose somewhere else, but for someone who enjoys walking it is no problem and was a big part of the Bangkok experience for me. As others have mentioned, taxi drivers have a job finding this place - but then I've found taxi drivers had a problem finding the big Central Plaza Shopping Centre! Tip for getting around town: One stop along the MRT is Phetchaburi station, from there head to Asok Pier (2 minute walk) and you can get canal boats to various interesting places, particular the Golden Mount/Loha Prasat and Siam Square. They are cheaper than the BTS, but more importantly, they are more fun! I used them to get to the Khao San Road area.
"Nice hotel, good pool, poor location, terrible staff. "
03/02/15 Byron H
Firstly the positives POOL + GYM - Lovely pool area on the fifth floor and an adequate Gym though not the best, for the price very good. ROOM - Decent size, a little dated but very quiet and comfortable. No cooking facilities but a big fridge. CAFE - Cafe attached to hotel very nice and room service was cheap and lovely. NEGATIVES LOCATION - Although a free shuttle bus is provided hourly up till 6 o clock the location was an issue. It's at least 20 minutes from the subway and any restaurants which is quite a tough walk in the city heat. As a young couple we even found it hard so something to bear in mind. HIDDEN COSTS - Everything costs extra. £2 a day per device for wifi. Microwave although advertised as being provided again was £2 a day to rent. Also a 1000 baht deposit is required upon checking in in cash only to be returned on checking out (supposedly) NOW THE BIG NEGATIVE AND REASON FOR ONE STAR STAFF - Apart from the guy in the gym, the concierges and restaurant every other member of staff has the worst service skills I have ever experienced. From surlyness to lack of care and attention to outright trying to con you. Upon check out we were told that we had been smoking in the room and presented with pictures from our room of a cigar box and ash and told to pay a fine of 3000 baht. The cigar box had all the cigars and hadn't been opened (a present) and the ash wasn't ours and they were setting us up to extort us upon check out. It was scandalous as we hadn't been smoking and I told them to no avail. The manager offered to discount our fine (which was unjust and ridiculous) to 500 baht as though they were doing us a favour. Treated us with so much distrust and disdain. What a joke - they already had our deposit so we had no option but to pay. I would have given them 3 stars if it wasn't for this but I would recommend you stay away if you don't want to be conned. Although good value on the face of it once you add in the other fees to the nightly rate you'll get somewhere better for the same price.
"Good hotel for short stay"
02/23/15 ToriRadek Moscow
Was looking for apartment at first, but then bumped into this hotel. The price was the same as for the apartment, so decided to go for it. B.U place is quite modern and comfortable hotel. There is even a pool :) personnel is friendly, yet has poor English. We had faced a technical breakdown of the sink, so had to use bathtub. On the checkin they tried to charge us for some flipflops:)))) but no luck, cuz we had ones of our own. The location is far from the center and all the main attractions, but here we got a chance to wonder around. Conclusion - decent place for a short stay. Oh, hotel provides shuttle to the closest metro station.

Just checked out of BU PLACE today, and have wifi connection now to write this review. Start off by saying this is quite a good hotel for the price.....decent swimming pool and gym, including pool and ping pong table, all of which we didn't use Shuttle bus service to and from Rama 9 MRT station conveniently saves the 2 kilometre walk Didn't use the Resteaurant as we enjoyed the local street food Room was spacious.....functional......staff were friendly and helpful....convenience stores just below.....good, cheap massage places all around.. But one small blip.......had to pay 24 hour rate for wifi......when we barely used it.......when I'm travelling, mostly am out and about......and use it to make forward bookings......but saying this, there was an Internet cafe (seems they are still around) across the street All told......good no-frills place in a decent location

the hotel is in downtown and quite traffic. however, the rooms are very clean and ground floor security is quite ok. convenient because of coffee shops and convenience store. local foods are available. kitchen is also available in the room but kitchenware is not in the room. if you cook you need to bring your own utensils.
"Not As Good As Before"
12/26/14 Dude22 London
I've stayed at BU Place on several occasions, but unfortunately things seem to have gone on a downward spiral. I first stayed here in 2009 and really had a pleasant stay. Back then I would have given this hotel a very good rating instead of the average one I have given it today. On my last visit in May 2014 I found things to have changed, but not for the better. The prices have gone up significantly while the level of service has gone down. The majority of reception staff are pleasant and very professional, but the general manager is aloof and seems to think that engaging guests in conversation or simply exchanging pleasantries with them is beneath him. If you're staying here long term then I highly recommend you take a water and electricity reading on the day you check-in. If you fail to do this, you will end up with a large electricity bill at the end of the month - as much as 4000 - 5000 baht. ($120 - $150 USD). The Thai Electricity Authority charges 2.5 baht a unit, however, BU Place charges 6 baht a unit and therefore makes a healthy profit on electricity and will make an even bigger profit if you fail to check the meter on your arrival day. However, if you're a short term stayer, then electricity and water is usually included in the price of the room and you need not worry. All serviced rooms are cleaned everyday (except Sundays) and guests are allocated two fresh towels Monday - Saturday. The Superior Studio rooms are basically furnished, but are very big and clean. The double beds are large, but the mattresses are a little hard and the pillows are too bulky. I ended up buying two pillows at the local supermarket and slept much better after doing so. Serviced rooms have LCD TV's but the cable channel selection is very poor. There are one or two English speaking Malaysian channels and the BBC News channel, but other than that it's mainly Thai, Chinese, Russian and Japanese channels. The expensive-to-run air-conditioners, which due to the oppressive heat, will be running most of the time you're in the room, are very noisy and BU Place really needs to update them. Serviced rooms have a safe deposit box and a fridge and I highly recommend staying in a serviced room on the higher floors as opposed to a non-serviced room on the lower floors. All rooms have balconies and if you have a room above the 10th floor on the swimming pool side of the building, you will also have a panoramic and somewhat spectacular view of downtown Bangkok. BU Place also has a large open-air swimming pool on the 5th floor, as well as a well-equipped fitness room, and a games room with a ping-pong table and a pool table. BU Place also offers a relatively inexpensive laundry service and they do supply washing machines for an extra 700 baht a month for long-term tenants. The hotel has 24/7 security so you will always feel secure at the hotel and there's also a 24 hour concierge service. The hotel has a coffee shop / restaurant which serves good but somewhat overpriced food and drink. Therefore, I always ate at the nearby local restaurants where you can enjoy an excellent Phat Thai for 35 baht. ($1) There's also a 24/7 convenient store adjacent to BU Place. There is an hourly complimentary bus service from the hotel to the local metro station, which will also bring you back to the hotel from the metro station if you inform the reception beforehand that you wish to be met by the bus at a certain hour up until 6pm. The hotel is off the beaten track and is located in a typical (and safe) Thai neighbourhood. There are no tourists around, but there are an abundance of very cheap and very good local restaurants within a two minute walk of the hotel. It's easy to get a taxi from outside the hotel and a ride downtown will cost you between 50-60 baht. ($1.50-$2USD). Getting back to the hotel by taxi is easy as the street where the hotel is located is well known in Bangkok. Tell the driver you want to go to "Ratchada Soi 3" and you'll have absolutely no problem getting back from anywhere in Bangkok. Alternatively, the local metro station is only two stops from downtown Bangkok and costs 18 baht for a single journey. The Bangkok metro is very cheap, very clean and offers a superb service. I will probably stay at BU Place again on my return to Bangkok.
