"Not the Ritz."
Great location!! Bathroom was blah. Shower was horrible. Should have just stood in the rain. But service was great!! Enjoyed it. Decent good price but doubt will stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Within a short walk of all we wanted to to"
This was a clean, conveniently city-center located hotel. This is exactly what I expected for the location and price point. The staff was very friendly and offered suggestions of activities to do in the area. I would stay stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It is a charming hotel, convenient locations and nice staff. The furniture is kind so fold adn needs some updates,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Below standard condition, etc."
While this was a good deal, the condition and other aspects of "The Ritz" were very poor. This place has "character".....but it is pretty rundown. The door to our room is beat up, and in need of repair. The old lock/key system is authentic, but not safe for rapid departure and did not feel secure. Having to leave the door key whenever we left was a […] big inconvenience since the reception area (the bar) was not always staffed. We could hear other rooms very clearly.....right down to splashing in bathtub and conversations. Staff was very nice, which helped. A real bargain that I would only recommend to single guys (sorry it is sexist to say it that way, but most ladies would not like this place). If we could have found a different place, we would have left. Great location to train and airport bus link. So....tolerable but not nice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Located near city center, everything was fine at the hotel, Owners were very helpful, reminds me of NOLA, the way it's decorated. 3rd floor was accessed via stairs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for the $$"
This was a good location and the cost was reasonable. The building was very old, paint was cracking near the window. Bathroom was smelly, like there was mold somewhere. For anyone who wants or needs an elevator, choose another hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient but not elaborate"
The hotel was in a conenient location, the staff were nice and helpful, however the hotel is a bit dated and could use some repair. There is no close parking, or resturant onsite, however there are plenty of places to eat near the hotel. The bar was cozy, but had a limited selection. Wifi was easily usable, but the lift was broken. The room was clean, […] no AC and the window only opened a limited amount. For a quick place to stay the hotel was great, however I would not want to spend more than a couple nights here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Below average for price and 2 star"
Close to Haymarket, friendly staff and has a bar. That's the good news. Sparse, small rooms, no lift and no view at all.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Putting OFF the Ritz"
Although I was not expecting THE Ritz (as in Carlton or Paris) but I was surprised at what I found. You feel like your staying at a Dowager Countess' guest house which has seen better days. It needs an overall upgrade (paint, mattress, carpeting, safety deposit box...). The staff is very friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel located in prime bar/night club area next to the train station. Beautiful interior with very tiny elevators (lifts). Clean room with comfy beds. Complimentary orange juice, water and chocolates in fridge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Get what you pay for"
The Ritz is a very mixed bag. We spent a week on the top floor in room 26. The water pressure was terrible and it takes a half hour to take a shower using a dribble of water. The daily servicing of the room did not replenish toilet paper, coffee, tea, and other items. On the plus side the location is good near the Haymarket Station which is an Airlink […] Bus station as well as a train station. This makes getting to and from the airport very nice and great for linking up to the train to Glasgow and other points. They have WiFi in the lobby but not the room. There is no elevator so if you get a room at the top be prepared for a long steep climb. Bottom line...the place is old, needs work, room servicing is lacking, no elevator but if you can put up with these negatives the price is good and location very good. "Not Bad; Neighborhood Construction Zone"
Not bad. Room was roomy with high ceiling and a better than average shower. Neighborhood was a construction nightmare however. Easy walking distance from Haymarket train station and a nearby Airlink stop (through construction zone). Not too bad of a hike to Prince's St. and attractions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to downtown area."
Very convenient. Staff friendly and very helpful. Hotel is dated and a little run down.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice room, a bit hard to get to"
My husband and I got the "Superior King" room for our one-night stay in Edinburgh. The room was large and comfortable. The decor was a bit dated and the bathroom could use some updating, but it met our needs. The staff was friendly. The breakfast in the morning was a bit lacking but that may have been due to the fact that we were the first ones in for […] it at 7:30am in order to get an early start. During our stay in May 2013 there was lots of street construction on the roads leading up to the hotel. Our sat nav could not figure out how to get us there because it also didn't know that a lot of the streets are now one-way. The street closures caused us to park several blocks away, which was a major inconvenience when you have luggage to tote around. You may want to call ahead before booking. The hotel is eclectic vintage in style, which we found charming. The staff was super friendly, which was appreciated. The maintenance in our room was not up to par. A light was burned out, the shower head was broken and the floors squeezed a lot. If you aren't picky about those things, the rate is good and there are tons of shops near by plus easy short […] distance access to the train station and express bus that goes directly to the airport. "Not a hotel"
The hotel is not a hotel ,it's just a b&b with out the breakfast , edinburgh is very cold this time of year we had a heater on from time we got our room to when we left , and room was still frezzing , there was no hair dryer in the room , very old house needs a lot of work to get it to be a hotel , would not stay here againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. I loved the interrior design. I only had 2 issues, 1) being a lack of wifi in any of the rooms and second having to carry my large suitcase up three long flights of stairs. Otherwise it was very nice. I got pizza and come cider down the block and relaxed with some tv before going to bed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good choice of hotel"
Stayed last Friday and Saturday night. Has 24hr reception, and was able to leave bags with hotel for last day, as both inbound and outbound flights were late times. Hotel décor perhaps a little dated, but clean and staff friendly, and despite being a busy weekend, no unnecessary noise. Hotel currently cannot offer breakfast, however sufficient coffee […] shops in area to eat in/take away, as well as a few bars/restaurants. Location/area good, felt safe walking back late from centre, which is approx. 20 - 30 min walk away, otherwise no more than a £10 taxi ride depending on drop-off/pick up. Would definitely stay again. Nice room. Stayed Thursday & Friday. When I got back to my room on Friday night bathroom door left open & light left on. Got up Saturday morning to have a shower, no shower gel or shampoo sachets. Not happy at all that I had to leave without showering.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"An expensive dump"
The Ritz is a very eco-friendly hotel. As most hotels these days it has a sign in the bathroom suggesting you reuse your towels to save water. The thing with the Ritz is, it takes eco-friendliness to new extremes: Paint is a notorious pollutant, so why decorate the room? Better leave the same paint that was applied in Victorian times. If there is crack […] or two on the walls and ceiling, no probs, it adds "character" right? Carpets, same thing. How do you recycle an old carpet? Better leave the same ones that Queen Victoria walked on even if they are ruined and dirty - after all, cleaning a carpet uses water and detergent right?. Seriously, the place is a dump and an expensive one. Dirty and old, poorly maintained and smelly. Stay anywhere else, even if you need to sleep in a park - at least the park is free and the council keeps it clean. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"In Need of TLC"
This is one of the oldest hotels in Edinburgh and sadly appears to have a lot of the original fixtures and fittings. Floor covering in the bathroom was torn and glued down, extractor fan was fithy. Water stains on the bedroom ceiling.Asked for a morning call, still waiting. Bed was comfy and location good,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"LOWER THAN THREE STARS, AND HOLIDAY RUINED"
The hotel rules the guests not to keep the room key when out of hotel. Literally, the room key must be given to the reception before leaving the hotel every time. The most ridiculous part is that the reception did not tell me this ‘Important’ rule to me during the check-in of the first day. In the second day，another staff stopped me to enter my room. And […] when I tried to use the room key to open my room, he told me I should leave the key in the reception before going out, and collect the key again with showing the full guest name to the reception when back to hotel. I questioned the validity of this rule to the staff with a very logical assumption that if a stranger who has my name can easily get the key，access my room and steal all my properties. But they did not reply me directly and only said ‘you are the first person who complains this rule in our hotel. They did not clearly tell me this rule when I checked in. If they told me this rule in the first day, I might consider not to live in this hotel. Because the safety of my properties could not be guaranteed, any stranger having my name could get my room key. Plus, there are many holes on the sheet, and there is no wifi reception in my floor, and the bath towels are not changed after house keeping. This hotel is definitely lower than 3 stars. "outdated is ok but dirty isn't"
We spent as little time as possible in the hotel because it was so unpleasant. The room however was actually dirty. The back of the bathroom door, window ledges and radiators have not seen a wet cloth in years. The wardrobe (with 3 hangers) was falling to bits and limbo-ing under the toilet roll holder to sit on the loo proved tricky. The staff were […] pleasant enough but clearly avoided the 'is everything alright for you' question. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel COULD be comfortable.BUT damp patches on ceilings ,wallpaper peeling off and scuffed paintwork as well as a window in our room which needed new woodwork. Some lovely pieces of furniture scattered around but could be more creatively used. One of our rooms was double booked and the substitute was BAD.This was closed by the manager after he […] had inspected it. Reception staff not too welcoming although the manager was helpful and understanding.Breakfast should have been available as it was stated so on Hotel website and Expedia website. "Fawlty Towers Edinburgh Style"
This hotel is called Ritz not after the hotel but the crackers. Great position for Haymarket station but unfortunately that's where it ends. The place was built in 1860 and certainly needs a major refurb to bring it up to the minimum standard required.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good - if you know what to expect"
Which is, don't expect much in the way of a hotel. I've stayed in worse places, but not for an awful long while. Linen and surfaces are clean, everything else is faded or worse. It is the sort of hotel that doesn't serve breakfast. If that's what you are expecting that's what you'll get. Location is good, staff are friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"fawlty towers would have been better"
I arrive in Edinburgh at midday and hopeing to leave my bag at the hotel until checkin at 4pm, I went round to see if this was possible. first thing no one about to talk with, bar shut and a message on a notice on the wall to use a service phone to talk to someone so I tried it and not even a dial tone 3 attempts and still nothing .so plan B phone the […] hotels landline number so I rang it and the call was instantly rejected . I hung around for a while in the hope someone would appear but no joy, while waiting a young couple came down to go out of the hotel and because the keys must be left in the hotel had to leave in a key box, but if they came back in how would they get it back. I was so disgusted with the quality of the hotel and the lack of any service that even with it being a non refundable booking for 139 pounds that I went to real hotel and paid 290 pounds for some decent sevice and comfort this was one of the busiest weeks of the year with the festival on and this place is not a hotel its a badly run bed and breakfast with a good location . "Great location, great fun, on a budget!"
When I visited with my father & brother in late February, it was a special occasion and my brother had surprised as we didn't think he was coming. The staff at The Ritz were fantastic and went along with the 'surprise', which made for the perfect start to our trip! Throughout our stay the staff were excellent and attentive - particularly to our elderly […] father. The late bar was great, and the bar staff would stay up until you were finished - brilliant! The rooms were comfortable, with tea & coffee (an essential for any Brit!) at reasonable prices. Only small minus is that the walls seemed a little thin so you could sometimes hear others come and go, but perhaps that's to be expected at an easy going & fun hotel; deffo recommend & would love to go back! "So close to Haymarket Station"
The room was a bit on the shabby side, but utterly charming with extremely high ceilings in a well maintained older townhouse. "Nice hotel next to hay market station"
This is a very nice smallish hotel with all mod cons for a weekend away. If I could give this hotel 10 out of 10 it would be for their massive comfy beds. I would definitely stay here again. Staff were really nice, it's a grand wee hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Cheap and old school. Dont expect anything classy. Plus points: Comfy room, v spacious, pleasant staff. Negatives: Bed linen had marks on it, shower is a mixer tap and not great quality (room 22 at the very too), no elevator. Decor is old but charming. Non of this however resulted in an unhappy trip. This hotel would be excellent if money was spent to drag it into the 21st century! It was very Fawlty Towers in its decor and desperately in need of a facelift. The hotel was adequate for our needs, it had the most comfy bed I have ever slept in with crisp white linen. Convenient location round the corner from tram, train and bus to airport, and (for me, anyway) within 25-mins walk from the centre and from, say, Morningside. Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms clean and well appointed (though a few doorways are a bit narrow if there's a bit of furniture in the way). To be honest, would have been nice to have breakfast […] included in the price, but you can buy coffee and a pastry at a fairly reasonable price in the bar.
