"Perfect family holiday with young children."
We stayed in a 3 bed villa during October half term with a 5 YO and baby. The villa was spacious and clean, only a few minutes walk from the hotel and a local supermarket. The hotel and staff were excellent and the outdoor heated pool was a godsend so our daughter could spend all day playing in the pool without getting cold. Breakfast buffet was good […] with a full assortment of hot and cold. The Italian restaurant did takeaway and the villa kitchen was equipped well enough for us. The beach was a few minutes walk along a beautiful walkway and was clean. We will go again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent family holiday"
We (family of 4, 2 girls of 10 &11) had a great 7 day holiday. The large pool was great with good sun bathing facilities, loungers, towels, 'bean' bags and 'sofas', although need flip-flops as 'plastic' decking gets very hot! The beach was about a 500m walk along the wooden board-walk (but a pleasant distance at that). A good selection of organised […] activities drove enthusiastic participation - aqua aerobics, volleyball, football, table tennis, zumba etc Restaurants offered a great choice of good food and excellent choice of continental or 'english' breakfast. Limited but adequate gym and the spa I'm afraid we did not try but it looked a relaxing environment Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Booked through Expedia who had confirmed kids club appropriate for both of my children - 4yrs and nearly 2yrs. On arrival, were told only from 4yrs. Had to debate the issue for 2 hours before the manager was prepared to help and then only because the info on the expedia website for their hotel was shown on my iPhone in 'black and white'. Eventually […] came to the compromise of 'free' babysitting for the 2yr old at the kids club creche for a couple of hours a day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Disappointed with Hotel & Service"
The staff was not forthcoming with information, its very had to communicate with them, hardly speaks english. Breakfast and Dinner service was horrible, we were calling the staff over for tea and juice all the time, maybe not enough staff. in regards to the hotel room throughout the 7 days they only cleaned our room twice, only because we walked up […] to the cleaner and asked. We booked a tour and paid for it in advance which she logged in her book, however on the day of the tour we were not on the schedule and that tour was full, we had to choose another tour last minute. As for our room every time you flush the toilet the entire room shakes and wake you up in the middle of the night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Its got potential but needs more work, on food."
This hotel is a complete mix of excellent, good and in some cases poor. I would describe it as four star for service but food is currently only a 3 star and the kids facilities outside of the pool are not aimed at the English children and there is no play areas for the young children. The excellent The large pool though saltwater is great my children […] thought is was fantastic, there is plenty of sun beds and towels for all The rooms are all comfortable and layout all exactly the same we had a sea/pool view at the back which was good. The front rooms have a golf course view this is ok but some have a car park view this is to be avoided The b/fast buffet had plenty of choice and was of an excellent standard The prices are reasonable in my view for drinks, snacks and ice creams The Good The spa is great but perhaps pricey The staff were V.Good but some could not speak any or little English which didn't help v my massive understanding of Portuguese! The outside bars for lunch have a good range if a little slow at times. The outside bar at night would be excellent but for the current Mosquito problem which means its a write off currently literally no-one drunk at it and the inside bar is tiny for such a large hotel The Poor Evening buffet was just a mix of average food but no meals that went together so we avoided it. The Italian was not yet open and the seafood restaurant service was poor. The sushi restaurant is too small. Along with the kids facilities this let the hotel down Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Luxurious and laid back 5 star family hotel"
Tasteful, stylish and well designed, the hotel feels laid back and luxurious. During our week long stay I'd say 99% of guests had children and yet it never felt over-run with kids. The decked pool area is enormous, with enough loungers, beanbags, and umbrella's for everyone, and each guest has access to hotel pool towels. The beach is a pleasant walk […] down a wooden boardwalk so it's easy to mix beach and pool every day. The team of entertainers run activities for kids and adults during the day, and into the evening there are kids games, shows and a mini disco. These never feel intrusive, the whole place is relaxed and peaceful, and activities feel more like a welcome bonus. The food is excellent, with different restaurants as well as the main Ocean Buffet. All guests are half board so have access to a varied and plentiful selection of genuinely 5 star food. There were different dishes every day, including a big choice of seafood, meat, pasta dishes, salads and a barbeque where chefs prepare different food each evening. Breakfast is equally extensive, with a chef preparing fresh pancakes and omelettes to order. The pool bar was very reasonably priced for lunch, (deep filled baguettes 4-6 euros) and as the hotel has no shops close by, there's a good range of salads, sandwiches, ice creams and drinks. Our family room felt spacious and comfortable, with notable attention to detail in every feature. Loads of TV channels, lovely complimentary products, incredible views. Great new hotel, still making some finishing touches to the property but nothing to disrupt stay. Rooms are of a very high standard, as is the rest of the hotel. Plenty of sun loungers around the pool at all times of day, even thought hotel was not full I don't think this will be a probably here. Happy with location, you can walk to supermarket and […] some small beach bars and restaurants, perfect for us and anything further taxis are cheap. Well worth using the La Carte restaurants if on half board as you get a 15 euro credit per person and too be honest the Sushi restaurant was only another 10 euros per person extra plus drinks and the food was amazing. The italian restaurant will be another great addition, offering a good range of food. Evenings are fairly quiet around the hotel, the Gin Bar could do with a bit more of an atmosphere I thought. Would return to this hotel in a moment - very relaxing break. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great peaceful family location"
Great hotel once we had sorted out check in. We were initially given a room over the car park and on complaining had a ridiculous discussion on upgrade charges until I asked to speak ti the front of house manager who sorted us out with a room which was acceptable. Despite theexpedia site listing all facilities such as kids zone and an Italian restaurant […] which when we arrived were under construction- poor from expedia as the hotel swore they had infirmed expedia- once settled we had a wonderful time as the staff and in particular the kids team went out of their way to give children and parents a great holiday. Once its finished we would definitely return. Expedia does need to be clear when advertising new hotels in terms of readiness. That being said we did enjoy our break and would recommend . . . So long as you be clearbon what a resort view is, its not a carpark and there are many many rooms overlooking it. The hotel was spotless and cleaned very well by the rooms team. Pools are great and plenty of space and loungers. The beach is fantastic with a lovely walk way there. Rooms neef an info pack and local map. Would recommend despite teething problems. Visited in June whilst still undergoing a soft opening. Not all facilities were open. Italian restaurant due to open in July. Excellent mainly fish restaurant in the grounds. 5 min walk to lovely beach. Staff were delightful if a little new to the job. Hotel very comfortable if a little minimalistic in décor. The hotel had only been open a couple of weeks so the parts that were finished were brand new. "Great Hotel for Relaxing stay"
When we arrived the hotel had only been open for 4 days so it was brand new and not very busy. As a result everywhere was very clean and 'new' looking. We must have been the first people in our room and it was spotless. However, the bathroom didn't have a door! Fine for couples but you have to know your friend well if travelling with a friend. There […] were plenty of sunbeds by the pool although the pool bar hadn't been finished yet. Beach towels were good sized and provided. The beach itself was not too busy and quite sandy - just a short stroll away. The staff were very friendly and helpful without being too in your face - can't praise the staff highly enough as they were more than willing to help with any issues even if it wasn't related to the hotel itself #for example they confirmed our excursions locally for us and let us know the change in depart times#. Food was plentiful and high quality - although maybe not enough variety for fussy eaters. One meat, one fish and about 3/4 vegetable and potato/pasta options each evening. However the salads and deserts varied. Breakfast was mix of continental and warm - really liked the option of bucks fizz for breakfast! We had breakfast and dinner in the buffet and didn't go hungry at all. Hotel is a little way outside of Alberferia town and not much locally so will need a taxi to get to town or we used the City Tour bus that stops outside the hotel once an hour in the winter months #every 30 mins in the summer#. "Neues Hotel in naturbelassener Strandnähe"
""Entspannter Urlaub in angenehmer Atmosphäre"
Flotte bassenger! Bra frokost, men middagen i hovedrestauranten var heller stusselg. Buffet. "Definitely not a 5*"
We had a double room with resort view. It was comfortable, but we missed the tissues, the change of toilettries articles, the hotel information guide, a table. The hair-dryer is placed on the left side of the mirror and its cable doesn't even reach the mirror. The atmosphere everywhere in the hotel is very cold. In the main restaurant, you feel like […] being in a factory canteen. Poor choice of food (no grilled food, no live cooking). The Japanese Restaurant didn't have any beef. The reason they gave us was that they had a group of customers 2 or 3 days ago and those customers ate all the beef. At the restaurant by the pool we had to wait 15-20 min to have a waiter to take our order. Another 10 min. later another waiter asked what we would like to order. 5 min. Later the table was set and another 10 min. later we got our food. Fortunately it was good. The pool area is nice and spacious, lots of long chairs, which would be more comfortable with matts. The main huge pool wasn't heated. The pool bar wasn't opened. We ordered drinks at the Nespresso bar or at the restaurant by the pool, but none of the waiters offered to bring the drinks to us, not a 5* Service. The beach is just beautiful. After 5 days, the spa opened. I only tried the pool and the sauna. It was ok, but again the atmosphere is not relaxing. My husband had a massage and found it good. The hotel is not finished. It should be more friendly, welcoming and lively.Heat the big pool. Suggest grilled Food. The staff is ok. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful Place to Relax, Unwind & Enjoy"
10/24/13 cantwaitformehol London
Wow. Where do I start with this beautiful place. Arrived on a quiet Friday afternoon, where we were swiftly checked in by reception. Room:- We were given a room on 3rd Floor overlooking the Golf Course & nature reserve – it was beautiful & spotlessly clean. Beds were very comfortable although the pillows were a little too soft for my liking. Bathroom/Wash area was equally as beautiful – I think I may have to rate this shower as ‘The Best’ I ever had. Lovely fluffly slippers and Bathrobes were also present in the room – maybe standard in most 5* hotels not sure.Flatscreen TV in room had English speaking channels inc News, Sport, Films & Kids. The room has tea & coffee making facilites – which we didn’t use. I have been told they are not replenished so bring your own if you really want this. Grounds: Well I can I do is echo what everyone else has said about the place. Beautiful Beautiful & then more Beautiful. Lush palms trees surround the 3 different pools. I have never seen a pool so big before. One of the pools was also heated. Pool Towels are supplied. There is a also a ‘swim up bar’ (this was closed during our stay) There is a covered walk way that will bring you to the beautiful Salgados Beach. I saw quite a few children riding their scooters or people riding bikes along the walkway so very safe. There is not much else around the surrounding areas of the hotel, so should you wish to get out and explore you would need a car. We took a cab to the Algarve shopping centre and this was e24 return (weekend taxi price). The sightseeing bus stops right outside the hotel so is also another option to use to get out of resort as this goes to both old town and the strip. Food: We had halfboard option, and anyone who complained about food on previous reviews well…….the choice was amazing for Breakfast and Dinner and I found the food to be of good tempreture apart from the soup. We had a different choice every night – their was show cooking where they would cook meat/fish to order. For breakfast the chef would prepare freshly made omelettes or pancakes. Services: The hotel has a coffee bar and Gin Bar. I had the opportunity to sample a cocktail for free after winning a card game, the Mojito was made perfectly. I didn’t use the Coffee Bar. The hotel also has a lovely spa onsite, where I got a treatement. Very relaxing and very professionally done. The prices are not too unreasonable either. Thier is a very very small shop at the Vidamar but it was closed whilst we were their. Their was only 1 other restaurant open (the Italian) but again we didn’t use it. Summary: Great Hotel, Clean, spacious, as everyone has stated the staff really do deserve the highest praise all welcoming, helpful & speak good English if your Portuguese is not so great. Quite a few staff are also multi-linugal as I heard them converse in German, French & Spanish at times. We went out of season, but can tell this hotel must really be buzzing during the summer. Suggestions: As many other have said, this Hotel really needs an information booklet about whats available locally – for instance at no point was we told about the little supermarket 10 minutes walk from the resort (walk past 2 roundabouts – then little way up on the left) sells everything you would need. We wasn’t told about any other activities that is available in local Albufeira. About the shopping centre, anywhere to eat locally (if not staying half board. Neither were we told about the tour bus stopping outside. So a little stand where they do leaflets and brochures would have been very helpful. A hotel of this size would also benefit from a shuttle bus that takes customers into town and back. These are merely suggestions and in no way did it affect our stay its just that they are 99.9999% perfect – so just a few improvments could make the resort truly 100% magnificent. I would return here in a heartbeat (if I could afford it :-)
"A Fabulous week"
10/21/13 kwawelliott Reading, United Kingdom
My wife and I visited the resort on 14th October, for a week. We drove to the hotel from Faro airport and on arrival, Ana at reception was very welcoming and helpful. Tito parked our car and showed us our room. He also gave us a quick tour of the main facilities at the hotel which we thought was very helpful. The room is modern, spacious and very clean. We had tea and coffee facilities, a mini bar and a safe. I would have liked a desk/table rather than the large settee. The air conditioning was good and the views from the balcony was stunning. The bed was comfortable, lovely soft pillows and the room was cleaned daily. We did not realize we were on half board and that was a good surprise. Breakfast was well stocked with very good variety. The quality was superb. There was freshly cooked omelette and pancakes, and the staff especially Colin and Eduardo, made it an enjoyable experience every morning. The resort being so close to the beach is ideal. It also has the biggest pool I have ever seen at a resort. There are three pools in total. With the good weather we had nearly all week, relaxing by the pool with a cocktail or two was one of the highlights. Ahh, Miguel will appear from somewhere and ask you to play a game to win a free cocktail. Brilliant idea. For dinner, I think the buffet system worked very well. The Sushi restaurant and Mama Mia Restaurants were also available at a discount for hotel guests. We did not use those. The choice of food was endless. The quality was superb and the staff were polite and very helpful. Marisa, Neuza and Pedro were always at hand. Pedro does excellent cocktails!!!!!! Overall, the location of this resort is ideal. Away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist centres, good for quiet times, overlooking a golf course (and if you play all the better), and right next to the beach. I am looking forward to my next visit already.

I and three friends visited the Vidamar Algarve Resort from 16 September 2013 to 23 September 2013 and stayed in rooms with a sea view on half board. There was a real wow factor on arriving at the hotel. It was very large and airy and the staff were extremely welcoming. The Staff were the biggest plus of our stay. They were always cheerful, polite, helpful and professional. However, we will not be returning for a second visit. The Five Stars which is seems to have been awarded leaves one wondering what is needed for such an award. No way is this five and I would place it in a Three category. The rooms were large and very clean but very much in the minimalist style. There was a large settee but no desk/table to rest on unless the one on the balcony was to serve as such. The bed was very comfortable and large and linen was very clean. The glass opaque doors to the toilet and shower room may be OK for some but it was not acceptable to me. The lighting was a real mystery at the beginning but I managed to sort out which switch turned which light by the latter end of the stay. However, the lights were very dim and I found difficulty in reading – thank goodness I had my E Reader which has a light attached. The Air Conditioning remained a mystery throughout. No matter what I did it stayed the same. The rooms were cleaned everyday but, as I found to my detriment, the balcony rail was never brushed/wiped and left a dirt stain on a shirt. No information booklets were in the Room explaining any of the procedures of the Hotel e.g. the Room Service Menu, Laundry Services etc. We were given a piece of folded A4 on arrival but it contained very little information – the Menu each evening was just a title with no explanation of what it really was. There was always plenty of choice with both Breakfast and the Evening Meal. However, I would have preferred less quantity and more quality. The fried eggs at breakfast were extremely rubbery and most of the other food was only ever warm. The evening meal seemed to be overcooked and very often many of the dishes were tasteless. However, the waiting staff were always trying to help and were very cheerful and polite. There were two other Restaurants but we did not try them as one of our party does not eat fish. When we enquired as to one of the staff as to what other menus were offered he was unable to say whether there was any choice other than fish. Surprisingly there was nowhere to sit outside in the evenings. The two bars are inside the hotel, the outside one closing at 7:00pm. These two were very small. We were fortunate in that there were many families with very young children so there were very few in the Bars in the evenings. However, if this had not been the case I believe that there would be very little room if the majority of guests visited. As was expected the drinks were five star prices and at least double what they were in the bars around Albufeira. Other Hotels I have visited usually have a small coach that runs into the nearest town a few times a day. There was nothing like this and to get anywhere it was necessary for a taxi, or take the Touring bus which was a very slow ride. To sum up: it was a very disappointing venue where the staff are trying their best but it is very much work in progress. Communication using brochures and information booklets are necessary. I wonder if it would have been better to have waited until everything was up and running properly for it the to maybe achieve the Five Star Status which sadly it just does not deserve.
"Brilliant family holiday"
09/16/13 Pauline237 Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Spent one week here at the end of August. Great facilities for children. Rooms are very good - modern and spacious. Pools are amazing. Buffet restaurant is fine - and well replenished throughout breakfast/dinner. Staff are excellent, always helpful. Great location so close to the beach. This is the place to go if you want to chill out and spend quality time with the family. If there was one criticism it is that the maid service is not to the standard of other 5 star hotels, and the rooms can be cleaned very late in the day. We didn't get any use of our balcony because there were so many flies and we had to keep the door shut - i'm not sure there is much they can do about this but i did have to ask for it to be given a good brush down and spray which helped for a while. Overall, a very relaxing holiday which we all enjoyed very much. No noise issues at all and the AC worked very well.
"Lovely family holiday resort"

Just returned from a lovely 7 night stay in a 2 bed villa. Check in was only 4pm (we arrived at 12.30pm) but we were told the villa would be ready in about 15 mins which was fine. Reception arranged for our luggage to be delivered for us and when the villa was ready they took us there by golf buggy, although it was only a 5 min walk away. The villa was lovely and the initial teething problems we had were quickly sorted (safe didn't work, fridge didn't work and no DVD player). What we weren't told was that you had to leave the patio doors open when outside by the pool (my husband closed them to to keep the mozzies out) and locked us out. He had to walk through the bushes at the back of the property to go to reception for another key. Not ideal. Mozzies are an issue here but that isn't the hotels fault. I was only bitten once and we managed to keep our toddler totally protected. The other annoying issue is the ants. They were everywhere in the kitchen ( including the fridge) but I managed to keep them in check by filling the sink with water as I think that is where they were getting in. I couldn't see any signs of the this issue being addressed by the hotel. The rooms are very spacious but the mattress in the main bedroom was very hard and uncomfortable and the kitchen not very well stocked. I couldn't get the dishwasher to work properly and I noticed that some of the dishes/cups were dirty (yuck). There were no glasses for soft drinks or small pans to cook veg for our toddler. I wasn't impressed with the bathrooms, as previous reviewers had noted there are plastic shower curtains and not glass shower cubicles which I have come to expect in 5* hotels. The actual shower was very good and toiletries replenished daily. One thing the hotel doesn't tell you is that for €25 you can book a welcome pack which is great. It consists of bread, jams, margarine, cheese, ham, 3 large bottles of soft drinks, wine, water, biscuits, milk, tea, sugar ( no coffee), peanuts and eggs. Saved us a hasty trip to the supermarket on our first day. The pool wasn't cleaned at all during our stay and whilst we had daily housekeeping, this didn't cover the kitchen. The actual hotel was very nice. The large pool was amazing and the two kids pools nice. It was incredibly busy when we arrived (a Friday) but by the Monday the hotel wasn't even a quarter occupied so we had no trouble getting loungers and huge circular pool beds/umbrellas. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate at both the pool bar and Sabor de Mar at lunch, all meals (snack sandwiches) were very tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. Make sure you ask to the lunch time snack menu at Sabor as we were initially only given the a la carte menu. We did eat in the hotel one night, we were self catering so paid €23 pp. it was ok but not the best buffet I've seen. Not much choice for veggies but the desserts were nice. Had we booked half board I would have had to have eaten out at some point. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel so can't comment on this. Howevwr, we did find a few local places to eat out which were lovely. We asked for recommendation at the hotel and were sent on a 'scenic tour' of the area that we quickly found out added at least 25 mins to the walk to the closest restaurant. If you walk down Lote 2b (the villa area opposite the hotel) there is a little path to the right which takes you to a bridge and the club house for the golf course that the hotel overlooks. We at there once and it was very pleasant. Walk a bit further along the rows of villas towards Lote 4b ( it's signed tennis courts) and this takes you along a a concrete path towards the conference centre. Turn right after you pass the conference centre and as you continue you wil see Salgados do Mar where we had the most divine prawn kebabs for tea. A little further along the road you get to a t junction, head right and about 25 mtrs along is Prima Pasta, the most gorgeous Italian restaurant I have ever eaten out. We ate thee 3 times with the average bill for two at €35. Walking time back to our villa was approx 10/15 mins max. There is a cash point on the opposite side of the roundabout to the hotel and a supermarket about a 10 minute walk away. The supermarket was very well stocked, lots of fresh foods and baby items so we could stock up for Our toddlers lunch/tea/snacks. As you walk away from the hotel to the supermarket there is a concrete path to the left that you can walk down and across to the supmarket. It's called Oceano and is very reasonably priced. The beach is amazing and a very pleasant walk across the reserve via a wooden deck. There are also turtles living in the nature reserve and we spent some time watching them swimming/playing Again the hotel don't advertise this - not sure why. The shop in the hotel was rubbish. It is literally a kiosk that you are served through via a hatch. Not much on offer. We didnt use the gin bar or the nespresso lounge. The sushi restaurant looked amazing, the menu was very nice but we had to ask reception to see it. Bizarrely you could only book this restaurant from 4pm on the day you wanted to eat. With a toddler we couldn't predict what mood he would be in so couldn't commit unfortunately. The albufeira tour bus passes the hotel and is a pleasant 90 minute return journey. First bus is approx 10.25am and is €13 pp. the bus stop is again on the opposite side of the roundabout to the hotel and jus by the cash point. Overall, despite the minor issues, we had a fab holiday and would definitely return. We were told on checking out that the hotel is closing at the end of October to take on board and implement customer feedback which should vastly improve what it can offer to travellers.

One week in Vidamar resort and i will never want to go anywhere else. Seen the bad reviews i just dont understand whats wrong with this hotel. All the foods are nice loads of choices both breakfast and dinner time. Staff is helpful and even if they are just opened and make some mistakes the way they solve it is kind and cant be better. Room is just superb!!!!!!! I want to move there :) I will go back soon.
"Excellent facilities but poor service level"

This is a brand new hotel with excellent location and facilities. Also because of that some services are not yet at the expected level considering its a 5 stars hotel, namely: - Gym not yet fully prepared - Breakfast missing some foods (natural juices, chocolate for bread, lactose-free milk) - Lack of toasted break in all the meals - Wet wipes to clean hands when shellfish is available - Frequent lack of fresh bottled water and ice creams in the outside bar - Lack of lifeguard with constant control over the big pool in order to ensure safety and rules are complied The pain point is the overall quality of the staff in terms of experience and preparation for the 5 star service. A lot of temporary workers are on duty and the managers seems not to have control over the day-to-day operations. Delays and mistakes cannot happen so often. I hope these "issues" are overcome in the short term as the hotel as fantastic facilities to become a reference in the area. Best hotel pool I ever saw!
"Good Infraestructure & Bad Service"
- Excellent location, excellent pools and just a 5 min walk to the beach. - It has a superb hot water pool (outdoor) - Did not like the buffet. Long waitings between 8pm and 9pm. - Excellent for kids - The rooms are very modern with a beautiful design
"Not five star."

My husband and two year old child have have just spent 7 nights in one of the two bedroom Vidamar town houses. Pros: The house was architecturally stunning with a private pool. Everything was new and clean. Fully equipped kitchen. The beach, although not private, was really nice. The kids pool was fantastic. Cons: Please note the town house does not get provided with room service, so don't even expect a bottle of water in your house upon arrival! After a whole day of travel with a small child a welcome drink would have been great. We didn't have the energy to do a supermarket shop at that point in time! Then, the following morning when we awoke, we saw lots of ants in the whole of the living room. I couldn't believe it. The reception staff didn't even apologise for this and sent some ant killer spray. I requested to change room which they agreed to do but said I would have to pay an additional 280 euros per night if I want to stay in a 'hotel-suite'. Unbelievable. We decided to stay put and not change town houses as the hassle of repacking and then unpacking everything was too much. I ended up spraying the living room with ant killer everyday! Pillows were super soft and huge, not great if you're used to firm pillows. The bathrooms had horrible shower curtains. A glass screen would have looked smarter. The town houses were noisy in the sense you could hear the neighbours moving furniture or going up their stairs. Food: awful. Worst food I have ever experienced on holiday. It completely ruined the whole trip. I booked my trip 2 months in advance and was told the mama Mia restaurant would definitely be open by the time we arrived. Well this was not true. Everything was based on pork/ham which we do not eat. The buffet was mainly cold salads with a poor selection of bland cooked food. Poor kids food; I have never been to a five star hotel which doesn't serve basics like pizza, fish fingers ect. Really really disappointed. Service: poor. Staff were not friendly. Upon check-out please double check your bill. We were staying half board but they charged us for breakfast and didn't give us the discount for one of the evening meals!
"3 bedroomed town house"

Just arrived back tonight from a 10 night stay in one of the Vidamar town houses. Our party consisted of a 78, 69, 36, 35, 6 year old and a 15 month old baby. We had a super time. The holiday was everything we thought it was going to be. I just wanted to mention a few points, I'll start with the positive: Salgodos beach is beautiful. Great facilities. A lovely beach snack bar/restaurant, toilets, a little stall selling buckets and spades etc and sun beds and shades (2 sunbeds and a shade €15 per day. The beach is really the best thing about the area. The villa was spotless, it was cleaned every day. The pool was fantastic, loved and enjoyed by us all. Free wifi was a bonus, especially for our little boy, although a bit of a pain that you had to keep entering the password details every 30 mins. The tv has quite a few English channels including Sky news, BBC Entertainment and Cartoon Network for the kids. Be careful if any children change channel, as my Mum was channel surfing and turned on a porn channel! Not good. The supermarket is about a 10 minute walk away. We found it stocked plenty of things to keep us going, including pizzas, fresh meat (go in the morning for this as it sells out), good selection of fruit and veg, drinks, English papers, bucket and spades, lilos and stamps, There is even a lovely bakery section. The supermarket is only small, but is very well stocked. We ate in the hotel restaurant 2 nights, we enjoyed it. There was a good selection to choose from, although I have to say it wasn't of the standard of a 5 star hotel. I would say that the hotel is a 4 star. The reception staff and porters were fantastic. They were very helpful. Our bags and us were buggied over to our villa, we were also allowed to have a late check out until 1pm, which was much appreciated. The gin bar, lacks atmospher, but drinks are served nicely and are very resonably priced. Some negative points: the villa was beautiful, but the layout wasn't fantastic and congusive to open plan family living. The kitchen is tucked away at the back of the villa, away from the living area. You felt isolated when you were cooking and had to carry the food along away if you were eating outside. The sound proofing wasn't great, you could hear connecting villas moving chairs etc. Lighting was very poor in the villa, especially in the living room and bathrooms. I was disappointed by the lack of power showers and the very cheap shower curtain. A glass screen would have been much better. My little boy and girl loved the parrot show, although I have to admit the shows were not what you would find at a five star, they were also staged in a very corporate function room. The outdoor snack bar, has a very limited choice of food and the service lets the rest of the hotel staff down. All in all a great holiday by a super beach. Villa overall was super, although lacking a few minor finishing touches which you would automatically find in a five star establishment.
