We stayed in a 3 bed villa during October half term with a 5 YO and baby. The villa was spacious and clean, only a few minutes walk from the hotel and a local supermarket. This hotel is a complete mix of excellent, good and in some cases poor. I would describe it as four star for service but food is currently only a 3 star and the kids facilities outside of the pool are not aimed at the English children and there is no play areas for the young children. "Luxurious and laid back 5 star family hotel"
Tasteful, stylish and well designed, the hotel feels laid back and luxurious. During our week long stay I'd say 99% of guests had children and yet it never felt over-run with kids. The decked pool area is enormous, with enough loungers, beanbags, and umbrella's for everyone, and each guest has access to hotel pool towels. The beach is a pleasant walk […] down a wooden boardwalk so it's easy to mix beach and pool every day. The team of entertainers run activities for kids and adults during the day, and into the evening there are kids games, shows and a mini disco. These never feel intrusive, the whole place is relaxed and peaceful, and activities feel more like a welcome bonus. The food is excellent, with different restaurants as well as the main Ocean Buffet. All guests are half board so have access to a varied and plentiful selection of genuinely 5 star food. There were different dishes every day, including a big choice of seafood, meat, pasta dishes, salads and a barbeque where chefs prepare different food each evening. Breakfast is equally extensive, with a chef preparing fresh pancakes and omelettes to order. The pool bar was very reasonably priced for lunch, (deep filled baguettes 4-6 euros) and as the hotel has no shops close by, there's a good range of salads, sandwiches, ice creams and drinks. Great hotel once we had sorted out check in. We were initially given a room over the car park and on complaining had a ridiculous discussion on upgrade charges until I asked to speak ti the front of house manager who sorted us out with a room which was acceptable. When we arrived the hotel had only been open for 4 days so it was brand new and not very busy. As a result everywhere was very clean and 'new' looking. Food was plentiful and high quality - although maybe not enough variety for fussy eaters. One meat, one fish and about 3/4 vegetable and potato/pasta options each evening. Кухня в отеле однообразна, детское меню - рис, жаренный картофель, спагетти, мороженное и так все 9 дней. Посетили ресторан Мама Миа, шеф повар у отеля один на все рестораны, заведение- просто позор для отеля, пригласили сначала повара, его не нашли на кухне, он вышел, попросили менеджера на ресепшен, за 9 дней не смог нас найти. Анимация в детском клубе - просмотр мультиков под присмотром двух девушек.В детском бассейне сделан бар(!!) и взрослые дядьки отмокают с маленькими детьми. Вилла большая и тоже вся из стекла (заляпано черт возьми), машинка стиральная не работает, у кухонного гарнитура не держатся все ручки, половину крючков в ванной отсутствуют. Набор посуды 3, 2 стакана и 4 чашки для кофе, одна малюсенькая поцарапанная сковорода. В общем этот отель совершенно не стоит своих денег, менеджмент отеля -никакой, заселялись почти час, портье путал расположение номеров, в счет при выезде вписали лишние заказы, правда потом нашли, что ошиблись. Die Gestaltung aller Räumlichkeiten und auch der Zimmer ist zeitgemäß - Teppiche im 80er Jahre Stil, geblühmte Vorhänge und Oma-Sessel sucht man hier vergeblich. Die Ausstattung mit Couch, Doppelbett, Safe, Flachbildfernseher, Balkon, Dusche/WC, Fön, etc. ist komfortabel. Auf Wunsch erhält […] man eine zweite Zimmerkarte, die als Türöffner dient. An der Nespresso-Bar erhält man leckeren Kaffee und an der Gin-Bar gibt es neben Gin und Cocktails für jeden Geschmack einen Appertiv oder Absacker (auch ohne Alkohol). Bei Halbpension sin die Geräte beim Abendessen gesondert abzurechnen. Generell lassen sich alle Kosten bequem aufs Zimmer schreiben - bezahlt wird beim Checkout. Der Poolbereich samt Snack-Bar und in-water-cocktail-bar bietet einen guten Erholungsfaktor. Liegen und Sonnenschirme sind ausreichend und kostenlos vorhanden. Gegen Abgabe der Handtuchkarte erhält man außerdem kostenlos Liegehandtücher. Der Sandstrand ist in wenigen Metern über die naturbelassenen Dühnen (Naturschutzgebiet) dank der Holzbrückenwege bequem zu erreichen. Das Personal war im Allgemeinen sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Englisch wird von allen Verstanden, wobei sich die Portugiesen auch sehr für ein paar Brocken Landessprache zur Begrüßung freuen. Respecto al servicio […] que le dan al cliente es absolutamente desolador, en un hotel con categoria de cinco estrellas no te pueden poner servilletas de papel, hacerte esperar mas de veinte minutos para servirte la bebida, y la comida ha sido muy pero que muy mediocre, por no decir mala. Dos de los dias, cuando llegamos al hotel, después de la playa, a las 20.00 horas aproximadamente, no nos habían arreglado la habitación, otro día se les olvidó arreglar el baño y así sucesivamente,lo comunicamos en recepción, nos dijeron que mandaban a alguien a limpiarlo y aún estamos esperando.Lo más desalentador es la falta de organización, de profesionalidad y las pocas ganas de trabajar de los empleados, que miraban a otro lado para que no les preguntaras ni pidieras nada. Auch hier vermisse ich bei 5*, dass einige Gerichte nicht frisch zubereitet werden, zumal eine entsprechende Infrastruktur im Außenbereich des Restaurants vorhanden war. Die Lage des Hotels ist ruhig. Wir hatten Blick über die Poollandschaft bis zum Atlantik. Dies war wunderschön. Der Strand ist über einen Steg in wenigen Minuten erreichbar. Der Strand war nicht überlaufen und ist gepflegt, sauber und feinsandig. Informationen über Ausflüge oder Busverbindungen waren im Hotel nicht vorhanden. Da wir einen Mietwagen hatten war es kein Problem. Unser Eindruck war, dass vor allem portugisische Familien in diesem Hotel ihren Urlaub verbrachten. Dies war für uns sehr angenehm. Das Hotel ist für Familien sehr gut geeignet. und die vielen Kinder wirkten alles andere als störend. We had a double room with resort view. It was comfortable, but we missed the tissues, the change of toilettries articles, the hotel information guide, a table. The hair-dryer is placed on the left side of the mirror and its cable doesn't even reach the mirror. The atmosphere everywhere in the hotel is very cold. In the main restaurant, you feel like […] being in a factory canteen. Poor choice of food (no grilled food, no live cooking). The Japanese Restaurant didn't have any beef. The reason they gave us was that they had a group of customers 2 or 3 days ago and those customers ate all the beef. At the restaurant by the pool we had to wait 15-20 min to have a waiter to take our order. Another 10 min. later another waiter asked what we would like to order. 5 min. Later the table was set and another 10 min. later we got our food. Fortunately it was good. The pool area is nice and spacious, lots of long chairs, which would be more comfortable with matts. The main huge pool wasn't heated. The pool bar wasn't opened. We ordered drinks at the Nespresso bar or at the restaurant by the pool, but none of the waiters offered to bring the drinks to us, not a 5* Service.The beach is just beautiful. This is my very first TA review as I have used this service to judge so it is only fair i do the same for prospective guests also. Let me say tha the hotel is a large complex, which is surrounded by Palm Trees. We selected the Half board, Nature View (i.e. Facing the outside of the Building onto the Gold Course) which we could not complain about. I will agree with the other reviewes in that the staff are incredibly, polite, nice and very helpful. The hotel is very good for families. The beach is literally a few minutes walk down from the hotel, which is very convienent when you have children. I would defiantely recommend this hotel for families. Let me get onto the food. I must inform the readers that my family and I are vegetarian, which i know is pretty much unheard of Portugal, but when you book onto a 5 star hotel, i would expect this facility to be available, especially as the hotel caters for international clientele! Let me start with breakfast - absolutely great, extremly varied choice of fruit, hot and cold buffet, both british style breakfast as well continental. Dinner is buffet style , unless you book one of the other restauants, which we did (Mamma Mia - very nice food - highly recommend it) Ok now for the bad part - firstly even though the food is labelled, it is actually labelled worng on many places, e.g dishes which contained bacon only mentioned potatoes! and many other instances similar to this. I pointed this out to the staff who told me i was correct but did not remove the label and this occured on every might of our stay. Not only is this bad but also dangerous as if a person has allergies and they are not aware of an ingredient or even relgious reasons. There is absolutely no exscus for a supposed 5 star hotel! Choice of vegeterian is extremly limited and for the 7 days we we there, i would say nearly the same every night. We made a point to cpmplain to the head chef, who was polite and helpful and even provided specialised meal for us each night. The only issue was that it was still only 1 option, whilst the other guests had plethora of options Wifi quality is good, but the method is poor and could be much better, and as other guests have stated the air con control is so very poor in its way of usage, and takes an age to cool the room down! I would have given this hotel much higher rating but the food let it down.

Just got back from this hotel accommodation is really nice as is the rest of the hotel swimming pools fantastic beach a short walk away along a wooden walk way not far . The only down side is nothing to do on a evening no adult entertainment only the gin bar to sit at also full of children . Meals were good plenty of choice again the hot buffet could do with been hotter only lukewarm . Staff very nice and friendly . Took a taxi in to alberfuira which cost twelve euros each way nice place to vist plenty of shops and restaurants I would recommend the hotel only downside is boring evenings if you're not a big drinker

We've just returned from the Vidamar Algarve and had a great holiday. Our children are aged 8 and 5 and they loved it. We stayed in a 2 bed villa with private pool and we felt this gave us the best of both worlds - an opportunity for privacy and quiet and access to the hustle and bustle of the hotel. This is certainly a family hotel ( mostly Portuguese families) and there were lots of children so I wouldn't recommend it for couples or singles. The pools, beach and kids club are all great. The buffet breakfast and dinner are good quality if a little bland and samey but again they work well for children. Having said that, none of the restaurants open until 7.00pm so might not suit those with very young children. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the whole feel of the place is pretty laid back. The hotel is huge, noisy and very busy. I guess some people may feel it is impersonal but the anonymity didn't bother us. You're left to get on with it and that's exactly what we did and had a fab time.

Very difficult to rate this hotel. In the end, we have gone for three out of five. Too many negatives for us personally. Good location, although it looks the same as other hotels in the area, so maybe the same architect/builder/interior designer had a hand in all of them at some point! Reception area resembles an aircraft hanger. Check in was smooth, although to be honest way too much information is given out at that point to take it all in easily. We requested, and got, a top floor room overlooking the pool and the sea. Go for this if you can. I would imagine floors lower down are subject to a lot of noise from the pool area. Great view of the sea. Nice enough room, again like other hotels in the area, decked out in the usual drab brown colour. Sink is situated in the room behind a wall but we were expecting this so no shock. Five star hotels that we have stayed in have nicer touches though including better toiletries and tissues. You need to be a giant to use the wardrobes to hang your clothes up! We quite liked the idea of buying packages for the mini bar. It cuts down on somebody knocking on your door to check if you have used anything and then the usual discussion when checking out, particularly when you have not used anything and the hotel say you have! We never got to grips with the television. No doubt, as this hotel is apparently five star, there is the ability to order films but we never found them. Complete lack of information in the room about anything! Bed was comfortable enough if not a little hard but not so bad. The hotel provide a kettle but the only place we could find to plug it in was on the floor near a socket. Air con is useless. It is controlled centrally. I fail to see the point in being able to see the air con controls on the wall of your hotel room and yet not be able to actually do anything with them other than switch the whole thing on and off. Great! For the first two nights we were sweltering and then the other nights cold. Hotel overall is very clean and we had no trouble with having our room cleaned early in the morning and it was done very well. The main problem with this hotel is it is not five stars and it is really is family friendly, to the point where you cannot get away from the noise anywhere. Portuguese and Spanish children under the age of 8 were everywhere. The noise was deafening. We could not hear ourselves think, or speak, over breakfast and dinner. The bar areas at night had children in them. The main pool was full of children and inflatable items. For goodness sakes, even the gym had a toddler in it when we used it twice! Come on management. This hotel can't just be run for children surely? There has to be some areas, even a couple, where adults can be adults! I have no idea if the hotel is like this all year round. Aside from a nursery, I have never seen so many babies and toddlers in one place. Extraordinary. Just think very carefully if you are a couple looking for a peaceful romantic break as you may well not get it here. That aside, we quite enjoyed the food. We didn't enjoy eating in such a vast restaurant though. It did not feel intimate or cosy. It felt like an upmarket canteen at work. We tended to ask to eat outside (some limited tables free) to get away from the noise. The food is very good considering it is buffet style. Plenty of choice every night including fish and meat, shellfish and some veggie options (mainly pasta and salad), soups, items from the grill, vegetables etc. Good choice of cheese and some very nice puddings. The main gripe about the food is that it was never hot. At worst it was cold and at best tepid. Breakfast was also in the same area. Again, excellent choice and variety, but almost always tepid to cold. Such a shame. Eating cold fried eggs is not appetising so eventually we just went for a lot of fruit and yoghurt. The pool area is divided up in to three. Plainly two of those small pools are for the children but most of them did not stick to those areas and entered the larger pool. The pool is large enough to cope with this but it is a shame, again, that you cannot peacefully sit by the pool or swim up and down without the constant noise. There is no lifeguard on duty but the main pool is up to 2 metres in depth - worrying considering the amount of children we saw just totally unsupervised. No issue in getting a sun bed at all. Toward the end of the day it does get very windy. The lagoon next to the hotel is lovely to spot birds and get some peace and quiet. We had a car so could visit the local supermarket and other places nearby which was nice. It gave us a break away from the hotel and in to some lovely quiet beaches and of course interesting towns. There is 25% discount on drinks in the Gin Bar between certain hours. Just double check your bill. Four times we were charged full price, and we had to firmly point out the discount on offer! If you have young children this is a dream hotel. If you do not, it is a bit of an odd place to stay. Nothing wrong with it if you get a good deal (and we did through BA) but if we had paid more than we did with a very special offer then the rating for this place would be much lower. I have no idea how they star rate hotels in Portugal but from other places we have stayed in this is just not a five star hotel at all. Nice enough, and the staff do their best, but it is not five stars at all.

I stayed with my parents and a friend for five nights in this hotel. The idea was to have a restful family holidays. Unfortunately, the time here was all but rest. The hotel was overcrowded, full of kids and constantly very noisy, either by the pool, as well as by the the bars and restaurant. There was constantly kids running around and screaming even late at night. If you have kids, this is the right place to go, but if you are looking for a place to rest, go far away from here!!! There are many other places in algarve for a quiet and peacefully time!!! Having said that, the rooms are amazing, the pools are fantastic and very big and the food is five stars. The main Restaurant is very big but sometimes is overbooked due to promotions to people outside the hotel, leading to a 10-15mins waiting queues. The staff was always nice and friendly but inexperienced!!! The beach is nice but can be very busy at times and slightly more windy than the rest of algarve. The sea is also a bit rough and with waves. The hotel is located by a lagoon with amazing wildlife such as turtles and flamingos, perfect yo go for a walk or a cycle run. Overall, the hotel is overpriced!!!!

We were expecting much more from a 5 stars resort (!!!) especially considering it was August and the price we paid!! The hotel was overcrowded and staff and service was completely inappropriate. We always had to queue, to sit for breakfast, to have lunch, to have dinner. Whatever we wanted to do we always had to wait. There were about 4 different restaurants (other than the general buffet) in the hotel which always needed to be booked in advance, not easy to find a place, we were there for 4 days we only had the opportunity to visit one restaurant. Furthermore (and this was not specified upon booking) if you have half board you have dinner included at the buffet but not in one of the 4 restaurants so you have to pay possible differences. The room was normally cleaned around 5, 6 pm. We had to call the reception for 2 times because no one came to clean up our room. Cleaning ladies don’t speak English or pretend they don’t. It was almost impossible to sleep because the cleaning lady could come whenever. In the room temperature was really high...impossible to lower grades of the air conditioner in the room..always about 27° Everything was extra. We had half board scheme but still beverages were not included, not even a bottle of water on the table at dinner. no drinks in the fridge because you had to buy a whole package of your choice between 3!!! it seems to me absurd!!! Poor info about excursion in the area, some brochures were available at the reception but if you wanted more info of course you had to queue. It’s a pity because the building and the structure is nice and new but really bad organized. Too many children and too chaotic. Maybe in September or July things are different but since in August we paid more for high season we should also get more. I had great expectations for my holiday, unfortunately I was really disappointed and I think from now on I will not opt for big resort anymore.

We booked a two weeks vacation stay directly with the hotel by phone and are currently in-house. This hotel is certainly not a 5 star hotel looking at it from a classical point of view. It is not a luxury hotel and you can't compare it with the Vilalara or others in the area. However and in view of the category family beach holidays we certainly can give 5 stars. This is a great hotel for family and kids spending their vacation. Most of guests are Portuguese and English and although the hotel seems to be fully booked now in August, we don't feel disturbed by the crowd. The beach is beautiful and can be reached reached by a 5 minutes easy walk. The pool area is good, our 4 year old daughter loves the heated pool :-). All staff is exceptionally friendly, some are really unexperienced but all are willing to learn and to improve. The food in the main restaurant is very good. Lots of Portuguese dishes, all very fresh and a good variety. We also tried the Italian restaurant but did not find it special, so won't return. The breakfast is rich for Portuguese standard. We liked the opportunity of using a buffeet for Kids. Our baby turned 1 year and without notifying anybody, we received a bottle of sparkling wine with a fantastic chocolate cake in the room. Priceless! We booked a family room for 4 (2 kids) and are happy about the space, the bathroom and the bed. The rooms are daily cleaned (except the balconies) and the bedmakers react positively to our few requests. Sometimes we have too much shampoo and the other day too much bath gel but we work it out. However, The hotel is anonymous and we are missing some kind of ambience. Some of the dishes in the restaurant are not clean. Without checking on purpose, we got several times dirty juice glasses or plates. The kids disco in the evenings could be placed in a better location (how about the pool area?) as the business room used also does not create a special atmosphere. All in all we enjoy our stay here, mostly because of the convenience of our kids, the beach and the friendly staff!

We booked the hotel as a 3 night family getaway before we embarked on the extended family villa break. We chose it as it was close to the villa we would be going to and it was supposed to be a 5 star. Our first impressions were very disappointing. There was far to many children screaming around the foyer and completely out of control. It was all very chaotic. The receptionist was very pleasant. She handed us our guide to the hotel and facilities and we then realised it was a glorified Butlins (this isn't meant with any disrespect to Butlins as the prices are far more reasonable and therefore better value). We were told we would only be able to eat in the larger restaurant as it was 9pm and we didn't have a reservation. This was fine by us as we were all hungry and a little tired. We dropped our bags off into our nice room with a good balcony. We then went downstairs to the said restaurant. We had to queue, I'm on crutches (invisibly this isn't the fault of the hotel nor did I expect any special help) we waited whilst a stream of rude holiday makers pushed passed people queuing and showed no manners whatsoever. We did get seated in what felt like an airport lounge, it was huge. Incredibly noisy and very impersonal (5 star hotels need a lot better than this). The buffet was disappointing, bland and like eating school dinners. Cold meat dishes which should have been hot. Nothing really worth eating. We went to bed feeling like we had wasted a lot of money on this hotel. Children were still running around the corridors at 11pm. The people in the next room allowed there poor child to cry themselves to sleep between 1-2 and this was a recurring theme (again I'm not blaming the hotel but it was indicative of many of the guests we encountered). Anyway to cut a long story short, things did improve. We booked the sea food restaurant which was quiet and the food was reasonable, service was good. The pool was a fantastic size even though a little cold. The staff were in general nice, just struggling which such large numbers. At breakfast it's best to eat earlier , then you can avoid the crowds. I wouldn't visit again. I think that the main problem is the size of the hotel. It's so large that your just a number and it therefore becomes impossible to attain a 5 star feel. The fact that the mini bar is empty and you need to order mini bar package to get it stocked is ridiculous. Also, in a 5 star hotel, I would expect clean towels and replenished toiletries on a daily basis. Not because I am that fussy but because it was expensive and that's what a 5 star hotel should provide.

Whilst the hotel is new and probably still learning, 5 star it is not. Rooms are fine but cleaning staff seem to wait until you are in your room and then knock on the door hoping to be turned away. One one occasion it was 5:30pm when the cleaner finally showed up to our room and we had paid for the premium top floor, see and pool view room. Towels and bed sheets are never replaced and the complimentary tea and coffee in the room once used will not be replenished, that's your lot! The reception staff are very good and very helpful and the main dining hall staff are also very good. Breakfast selection is the same every morning which isn't always a bad thing and the dinner selection is different daily. There is a small children's selection daily changing between nuggets fish fingers breaded chicken and burgers and nearly always pasta and sauce. There is an indoor grill area which is wasted as the quality coming off of it is nearly always poor. Tough steaks or undercooked chicken. Pool area is very spacious handling the number if guests extremely well. Always managing to get a bed and an umbrella as long as you get down before 11am. Great access to the beach but if you want a bed there you have to book it a few weeks in advance somehow as all the locals are there as well. The sea is very cold and can get quite choppy. Unfortunately all the above are the good points... There is nothing else near the hotel. The nearest shop is a small supermarket 20minutes walk away which also has an even smaller cafe next door. If you want a bar or a touristy type shop, that's 45 minutes walk if you cut through a few hotels on your way or an over an hours walk if you follow the hotels mapped route to them following the roads and it's not worth it... Buy cigarettes on the plane before you get here to save trying to find anywhere that sells them. Old town is a 10euro taxi drive away and makes you feel much more like your on holiday with the selection of tat for sale in their many shops. If you want lunch then the hotel pool bar only seats about 30 people, and if your not Portuguese then don't expect a table or any kind of service as these guys don't speak much English and don't really care. You can go to the Italian restaurant for lunch which is slightly larger in capacity but not by much and again if you aren't local to the area they probably won't serve you very quickly. Best to just eat more at breakfast. Again at nighttime there is little to do. Some entertainment for the kids but this starts at 9pm and finishes at 10. The Portuguese tend to eat late and then run around shouting and generally being irritating having just fuelled up so don't expect to hear anything but screams and shouting. There are two bars inside by the lobby, both seating around 25 people each, one directly under a balcony where the pool table is with screaming kids arguing and playing, and the other directly below the only computer available to the hotel guests, surrounded by more screaming kids. The outside bar is the poolside bar which sits about 30 people... So basically get to these early or don't bother. The place needs more space for things other than lounging around the pool or more things to keep the kids entertained for longer. The little things that 5 star normally gives that this hotel doesn't.. Clean towels in the room Poolside towels available but only can be changed between 9-12 in the morning despite the fact the guys are stood there all day handing out towels to arriving guests all day until 7pm, if you are a guest for one day and ask to change your towel after midday... Let's say 12:30... They will refuse to change it. Clean rooms... Cleaners seem to walk around all day working out ways to avoid cleaning the room Replenishment of soap, tea, coffee Decent service in general. We won't be returning here again.
