on down season there is no dinner buffet and we didnt know until we got there, which was a bummer.I had internet issues and the staff was not very helpful. The hotel is very far off and the oly options you have to make trips is to take a taxi, which adds up.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect family holiday with young children."
We stayed in a 3 bed villa during October half term with a 5 YO and baby. The villa was spacious and clean, only a few minutes walk from the hotel and a local supermarket. The hotel and staff were excellent and the outdoor heated pool was a godsend so our daughter could spend all day playing in the pool without getting cold. Breakfast buffet was good […] with a full assortment of hot and cold. The Italian restaurant did takeaway and the villa kitchen was equipped well enough for us. The beach was a few minutes walk along a beautiful walkway and was clean. We will go again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent family holiday"
We (family of 4, 2 girls of 10 &11) had a great 7 day holiday. The large pool was great with good sun bathing facilities, loungers, towels, 'bean' bags and 'sofas', although need flip-flops as 'plastic' decking gets very hot! The beach was about a 500m walk along the wooden board-walk (but a pleasant distance at that). A good selection of organised […] activities drove enthusiastic participation - aqua aerobics, volleyball, football, table tennis, zumba etc Restaurants offered a great choice of good food and excellent choice of continental or 'english' breakfast. Limited but adequate gym and the spa I'm afraid we did not try but it looked a relaxing environment Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Booked through Expedia who had confirmed kids club appropriate for both of my children - 4yrs and nearly 2yrs. On arrival, were told only from 4yrs. Had to debate the issue for 2 hours before the manager was prepared to help and then only because the info on the expedia website for their hotel was shown on my iPhone in 'black and white'. Eventually […] came to the compromise of 'free' babysitting for the 2yr old at the kids club creche for a couple of hours a day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Disappointed with Hotel & Service"
The staff was not forthcoming with information, its very had to communicate with them, hardly speaks english. Breakfast and Dinner service was horrible, we were calling the staff over for tea and juice all the time, maybe not enough staff. in regards to the hotel room throughout the 7 days they only cleaned our room twice, only because we walked up […] to the cleaner and asked. We booked a tour and paid for it in advance which she logged in her book, however on the day of the tour we were not on the schedule and that tour was full, we had to choose another tour last minute. As for our room every time you flush the toilet the entire room shakes and wake you up in the middle of the night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Its got potential but needs more work, on food."
This hotel is a complete mix of excellent, good and in some cases poor. I would describe it as four star for service but food is currently only a 3 star and the kids facilities outside of the pool are not aimed at the English children and there is no play areas for the young children. The excellent The large pool though saltwater is great my children […] thought is was fantastic, there is plenty of sun beds and towels for all The rooms are all comfortable and layout all exactly the same we had a sea/pool view at the back which was good. The front rooms have a golf course view this is ok but some have a car park view this is to be avoided The b/fast buffet had plenty of choice and was of an excellent standard The prices are reasonable in my view for drinks, snacks and ice creams The Good The spa is great but perhaps pricey The staff were V.Good but some could not speak any or little English which didn't help v my massive understanding of Portuguese! The outside bars for lunch have a good range if a little slow at times. The outside bar at night would be excellent but for the current Mosquito problem which means its a write off currently literally no-one drunk at it and the inside bar is tiny for such a large hotel The Poor Evening buffet was just a mix of average food but no meals that went together so we avoided it. The Italian was not yet open and the seafood restaurant service was poor. The sushi restaurant is too small. "Luxurious and laid back 5 star family hotel"
Tasteful, stylish and well designed, the hotel feels laid back and luxurious. During our week long stay I'd say 99% of guests had children and yet it never felt over-run with kids. The decked pool area is enormous, with enough loungers, beanbags, and umbrella's for everyone, and each guest has access to hotel pool towels. The beach is a pleasant walk […] down a wooden boardwalk so it's easy to mix beach and pool every day. The team of entertainers run activities for kids and adults during the day, and into the evening there are kids games, shows and a mini disco. These never feel intrusive, the whole place is relaxed and peaceful, and activities feel more like a welcome bonus. The food is excellent, with different restaurants as well as the main Ocean Buffet. All guests are half board so have access to a varied and plentiful selection of genuinely 5 star food. There were different dishes every day, including a big choice of seafood, meat, pasta dishes, salads and a barbeque where chefs prepare different food each evening. Breakfast is equally extensive, with a chef preparing fresh pancakes and omelettes to order. The pool bar was very reasonably priced for lunch, (deep filled baguettes 4-6 euros) and as the hotel has no shops close by, there's a good range of salads, sandwiches, ice creams and drinks. Our family room felt spacious and comfortable, with notable attention to detail in every feature. Loads of TV channels, lovely complimentary products, incredible views. Great new hotel, still making some finishing touches to the property but nothing to disrupt stay. Rooms are of a very high standard, as is the rest of the hotel. Plenty of sun loungers around the pool at all times of day, even thought hotel was not full I don't think this will be a probably here. Happy with location, you can walk to supermarket and […] some small beach bars and restaurants, perfect for us and anything further taxis are cheap. Well worth using the La Carte restaurants if on half board as you get a 15 euro credit per person and too be honest the Sushi restaurant was only another 10 euros per person extra plus drinks and the food was amazing. The italian restaurant will be another great addition, offering a good range of food. Evenings are fairly quiet around the hotel, the Gin Bar could do with a bit more of an atmosphere I thought. Would return to this hotel in a moment - very relaxing break. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great peaceful family location"
Great hotel once we had sorted out check in. We were initially given a room over the car park and on complaining had a ridiculous discussion on upgrade charges until I asked to speak ti the front of house manager who sorted us out with a room which was acceptable. Despite theexpedia site listing all facilities such as kids zone and an Italian restaurant […] which when we arrived were under construction- poor from expedia as the hotel swore they had infirmed expedia- once settled we had a wonderful time as the staff and in particular the kids team went out of their way to give children and parents a great holiday. Once its finished we would definitely return. Expedia does need to be clear when advertising new hotels in terms of readiness. That being said we did enjoy our break and would recommend . . . So long as you be clearbon what a resort view is, its not a carpark and there are many many rooms overlooking it. The hotel was spotless and cleaned very well by the rooms team. Pools are great and plenty of space and loungers. The beach is fantastic with a lovely walk way there. Rooms neef an info pack and local map. Would recommend despite teething problems. "Great Hotel for Relaxing stay"
When we arrived the hotel had only been open for 4 days so it was brand new and not very busy. As a result everywhere was very clean and 'new' looking. We must have been the first people in our room and it was spotless. However, the bathroom didn't have a door! Fine for couples but you have to know your friend well if travelling with a friend. There […] were plenty of sunbeds by the pool although the pool bar hadn't been finished yet. Beach towels were good sized and provided. The beach itself was not too busy and quite sandy - just a short stroll away. The staff were very friendly and helpful without being too in your face - can't praise the staff highly enough as they were more than willing to help with any issues even if it wasn't related to the hotel itself #for example they confirmed our excursions locally for us and let us know the change in depart times#. Food was plentiful and high quality - although maybe not enough variety for fussy eaters. One meat, one fish and about 3/4 vegetable and potato/pasta options each evening. However the salads and deserts varied. Breakfast was mix of continental and warm - really liked the option of bucks fizz for breakfast! We had breakfast and dinner in the buffet and didn't go hungry at all. Hotel is a little way outside of Alberferia town and not much locally so will need a taxi to get to town or we used the City Tour bus that stops outside the hotel once an hour in the winter months #every 30 mins in the summer#. "Neues Hotel in naturbelassener Strandnähe"
""Entspannter Urlaub in angenehmer Atmosphäre"
Flotte bassenger! Bra frokost, men middagen i hovedrestauranten var heller stusselg. Buffet. Men man kan benytte seg av et par andre restauranter, med rabatterte priser. "Definitely not a 5*"
We had a double room with resort view. It was comfortable, but we missed the tissues, the change of toilettries articles, the hotel information guide, a table. The hair-dryer is placed on the left side of the mirror and its cable doesn't even reach the mirror. The atmosphere everywhere in the hotel is very cold. In the main restaurant, you feel like […] being in a factory canteen. Poor choice of food (no grilled food, no live cooking). The Japanese Restaurant didn't have any beef. The reason they gave us was that they had a group of customers 2 or 3 days ago and those customers ate all the beef. At the restaurant by the pool we had to wait 15-20 min to have a waiter to take our order. Another 10 min. later another waiter asked what we would like to order. 5 min. Later the table was set and another 10 min. later we got our food. Fortunately it was good. The pool area is nice and spacious, lots of long chairs, which would be more comfortable with matts. The main huge pool wasn't heated. The pool bar wasn't opened. We ordered drinks at the Nespresso bar or at the restaurant by the pool, but none of the waiters offered to bring the drinks to us, not a 5* Service. The beach is just beautiful. After 5 days, the spa opened. I only tried the pool and the sauna. It was ok, but again the atmosphere is not relaxing. My husband had a massage and found it good. The hotel is not finished. It should be more friendly, welcoming and lively.Heat the big pool. Suggest grilled Food. The staff is ok. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We had read the reviews before going here so we were prepared. No. it's not really a five star. Yes, the open plan bathrooms take getting used to. However we do disagree with those finding fault with the food and service. The buffet was plentiful and delicious, the staff were overly accomodating and friendly and we were spoiled for choice each eveing. We ate at the sushi restaurant one evening (best sushi we've had in a long time) and had lunch at Mamma Mia (huge portions and not expensive). We also disagree with those who complained about the long walk to the beach. There are seemingly endless boardwalks leading through the dunes to the beach and the walk (with our toddler child) took all of 5 minutes. The boardwalks were beautiful, especially when the sun was setting. There are two local grocery stores: Oceana (closer and cheap) and the posh Apolonia (like Waitrose and just as dear). We loved our stay here and even thought about extending it. We highly recommend this lovely resort and hope to be back again soon.

Returned a week ago today and missing this place already. We went for a week and had a wonderful time. The room was spacious, bed extremely comfortable, amazing shower, kept very clean and toiletries replenished what seemed like everyday. The pool is amazing and there are plenty of very comfortable sunbeds (I hate those plastic mats much prefer a better quality sunbed). We enjoyed the buffet restaurant and can vouch for the good selection of wines at exceptionally reasonable prices for a 5* hotel as we tried a bottle with dinner every night, make sure you ask, (if not offered), for the wine list :) The snack bar has a selection of salads and sandwiches and there are also 3 other restaurants, Mamma Mia (Italian) is the alternative one at no extra cost for those on half board, but book in advance, at the other two, Portuguese and Sushi those on half board are given a 15Euro pp allowance towards the bill. The hotel is situated next to a stunning beach and we walked along it twice to the town of Armacao De Peru, where we had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant on the road that runs parallel to the beach (I cant remember its name) but its grilled sardines were sublime. We must say a special thank you to all the staff who made our holiday so special, to Miquel (fingers crossed for Belgium) and Joao, the wife says we are coming back in September! Loved it
"Excellent from start to finish"
06/23/14 paulanddianev rotherham
We have just come back from the Vidamar hotel after the most wonderful week, and would like to thank the management and staff for being so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. For us it was the most perfect holiday from start to finish. We were welcomed by the very efficient staff and although we had arrived early due to the flight times, we were given a room as soon as one was available, which matched our requirements exactly (high floor with a sea / pool view) A lot of people have rated and commented that the hotel is not 5* - in our view it more than met our expectations and we are certainly happy to rate the hotel as 5* in our view – just one minor hiccup at dinner where the staff were too efficient and cleared our cutlery and drinks away while we were away selecting our dessert, but this was sorted extremely quickly by the management and staff, and in no way spoilt our evening. There were alternatives to the buffet – an Italian restaurant which we tried and thoroughly enjoyed, a sushi restaurant which was not really to our taste, although looked very nice, and a seafood restaurant, which we didn’t get chance to try. The room was perfect in our eyes – very modern and minimalist, but high class. The shower was just amazing – if we could have got it home with us we would have - we were in room 427, at the end of a block so no neighbour to one side which was nice. It also overlooked the pool and the sea. The pool was just huge – the biggest one we have ever seen. And sunbeds that just went on forever. The pool bars, as well as the indoor hotel bars seemed very reasonably priced – a nice surprise – alcohol was a bit pricey – but as we are more coffee drinkers this didn’t affect us much. And By the way, Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, which we found very useful and a very nice touch. And if you didn’t want to stay around the pool then the beach was only 3 minutes away, and a beautiful beach it is too. The beach bar was also very reasonably priced for an ice cream or soft drink As far as location is concerned, it’s very quiet around the hotel, surrounded on one side by a golf course, a nature reserve on another, and then the beach, if you are looking for nightlife then it’s perhaps not for you. There is a city sightseeing bus (we have used them in Toronto and Washington previously, and never expected to find one around our resort) which we found great to use and value for money (we don’t drive abroad) using it as a pleasant taxi service into the old town. It stops right outside the hotel (turn left out of reception and then walk 30 yards or so towards the roundabout – stop 11) – a 2 day ticket costs 13 euros each and allowed us to visit a number of places. There is a supermarket close by for newspapers, snacks etc – about a 10 minute walk for fit people (it’s uphill), turn right out of the hotel, walk past 2 roundabouts and then turn left at the mobile phone mast One general – and very minor - comment about the locality – it would be nice to have a few benches here and there perhaps, we didn’t recall seeing any
"One of the Best Family Holidays @Algarve"
06/17/14 Miguel M Lisbon, Lisboa, Portugal
This is one of the most family friendly hotels in Algarve and highly recommended. Been there twice already and recommend it for the following points: - 1 huge swimming pool, 1 nice kids pool and 1 very nice heated outside pool - Direct access (walking 3 minutes) from hotel to the beach - Great kid animation programs both at night and in the kids club for those who use them - Nice food on the buffet with the possibility of changing restaurants (Japanese, Italian, buffet, fish….) - Everything is new and works smoothly - Cost vs. Facilities and amenities is very good for Algarve at all times Could improve: - Gym is weak (small, no view...) and on the basement but you can run or jog outside - Service is friendly (no complains) but for a five star hotel could be that little bit better All in all it is impossible not to have a good time at this place
"Response to previous review - we love it"

We are currently here. This is a new hotel and some of the staff are inexperienced, however all of them we have had any dealings with so far have been extremely pleasant and helpful. You do not have to pay €7 to open the safe but you have to pay €7 to open the mini bar. Safe and wifi are free. The rooms are very spacious, clean and well equipped although if you are like me, 5ft 2ins, you will struggle to hang your clothes up in the wardrobe! The pool area is fab and the snack bar has lovely young staff and very reasonable prices. The double bed (I emailed and requested one before we arrived) is huge and extremely comfortable, but the pillows are to soft for me. The shower is the best I've ever experienced in any hotel - I want one at home ! The beach is gorgeous and the beach bar/restaurant (not connected to the hotel) is brill - best vodka and tonic anywhere. 5*, in some ways yes in others no, but with time and a steep learning curve for some staff they will get there
"Never a 5 star hotel!"
06/15/14 Raymond C Paisley, United Kingdom
This is a 3 star hotel at most. Best part of our holiday was the room view. Staff, in particular at the reception (day time) were grumpy and not very helpful. To give you an example, we asked the reception to call a taxi for us with a baby seat and was informed we need to provide 2 hours notice! Most of the rest of the staff are very unhelpful' inexperienced, and English is very poor. Waiting times for everything is horrendous. My daughter had an accident on our day of departure (got caught in the revolving doors at the reception) and no one came to help or see if she was ok. She is only 2.5 years old. They just stared from the reception at me struggling to stop the doors. Fortunately she was fine. DO NOT book half board. This is misleading as you are restricted to menu choice and have to pay in other circumstances. We were also advised it was buffet style and on arrival, this was not the case!! Beware! I also had to report to the restaurant manager that one cheif was using the same tongs to handle cooked and raw CHICKEN! I've stayed in many 5 start hotels and this at most is a 3 star. I echo some of the points raised in other reviews about the restaurants on site, location, spar and pool area. Paid £1850 for a weeks half board for my wife and I, and our daughter. Waste of money. Oh, and did I mention you have it pay 7 euros just to open the safe! I hope you read this before booking. One of the worst holidays in 20 years. Will definitely not return to this hotel. Oh, and if the operations manager replies to this (as I'm sure he will), you will remember speaking to me directly about my complaint re-your foods. I stayed in room 423! (3 June to 10 June 2014).
"Not really a 5 star....."
06/10/14 Kit_Kat_Traveller_73 London, United Kingdom
Seemingly new resort, very modern decor(could fit into business category), well kept, but under the surface definitely not 5 star. On Friday night arrival, after a very delayed trip, we were warmly welcomed by a young man, who had us at the door. On arriving at the desk where two women were standing, we were told to go to the check in desk, which would seem to be the next desk along, but with no obvious signage. The same man who greeted us at the door then, raced over to check us in. He was great at explaining everything. The niggles did start very quickly though. We arrived at 11.30, 4 hours later than expected, tired and hungry, we were told all 3 restaurants were closed and the Gin bar, which stayed open until 1pm didn't sell food. Our only option was room service. We arrived at our room, same check in guy said he would bring up luggage. We waited over 30 mins for the luggage to be brought up and having checked out the Late food menu, was unimpressed. On phoning and asking if they could take out the bacon from one ofthe sandwiches we were told no and actually they didn't have the full menu available. The room itself was spacious, simple modern decor, a double consisted of two twins pushed together(asked if they actually had any double beds and was told no). Included a sofa bed under TV covering power points, and side table, on the side with no power sockets. We moved it around in the morning. Bathroom, reminded me of private gym, nice and clean. Only niggle, is that there are no tissues provided as standard and so far, 4 days in, our hand soap hasn't been replaced. So for more niggles, 1.With our late night food order, we used one of the two glasses that were in the room on arrival. This glass was put out with the dirty plates and taken away. We have spent two days trying to get this glass replaced?! We were told that glasses were not allowed in the room, asked housekeeping and they said they don't have them, then finally was brought replacement plastic glasses, then finally glass ones. 2. The plastic cups once used, are not replaced, our tea cup(s) were washed and placed on one of the hand towels to dry. A teaspoon for one of the cups, not replaced. Bottled water, not replaced. Exactly 2 teas/ coffees, sugars, creamers provided. 3. Asked for an iron and board, after 30 mins called up to check it was on its way, after 45mins phoned again and asked if someone could call and let us know when it was being brought. After an hour, I thought to check outside and yes the iron and board was there, but no one had knocked/called to let us know. 4. Took a trip to the sauna - the heat in the swimming pool area is unbearably hot. A fee of €10 is also charged for daily access. 5. There is a massive main pool, on entry at the far end the lining of the pool is coming up, so is lifting from the surface and feels odd when walking on. 6. Entertainment, lacks for adults and geared towards kids. 7. No real communal areas for adults to hang out and socialise. External bars close early and there is a difference in what each bar stocks, which didn't make sense, as one is a swim up and the other close to the pool. 8. Staff do not circulate amongst the sun loungers, past a certain point and a reported spillage on a table was never attended to. It's not all bad,the positives are that the staff are very friendly and majority helpful, but you feel like you're bothering them for simple things that should be standard in this category hotel. As said on the surface 5 star appearance, but even down to the lack of background music in the eating annexe area, compounds the feeling that this place lacks any real holiday making soul. Food selection is standard for breakfast and good variety for dinner. Beds are comfortable and black out curtains help to aid a good nights sleep. Great place for families, most of the clientele at the moment appear to be local families and access to lovely private beach is definitely it's selling point. Curious to see how they operate during a busier time, currently feels as though they are operating on a scaled down service level. Location wise, you'll need bikes/car or taxis as it is some distance from any amenities, shops or restaurants.
"Not really a five star"

Our first experience of the hotel was excellent the reception staff were friendly and informative as was the bell boy who gave us a quick tour of the hotel before taking us to our room. The swimming pools were amazing although the kids pool was very very hot by late afternoon. The beach was beautiful acres of yellow warm sand lovely. The family room was fine. I have seen other reviews which mentioned that there is no separate bathroom in the rooms and this is a little odd. But as a family no problem for us. The rooms are spacious and even the sofa bed was very comfy. We had to ask a couple of times for our sofa bed to made up for my 2 and 4 year old at 9pm but it wasn't that big of a deal for us. What was a big deal was the service in the restaurants it was dismal. The restaurants did not open until 7pm (my kids normally go to bed at 7pm) so dinner started on a bad note. Add non existent service; we poured our own wine, had to walk to the bar to pay for our meal and to get servers attention; a number of starters were forgotten about. Dinner was a nightmare most nights. That said we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and by the end of it made sure to order promptly in the evening and eat quickly after that things went a bit more smoothly for us. I would NOT go back in high season. However I would go back again out of season. A hotel on the up perhaps.

Booked a half board (more on that later) package for a family of 4 adults and two children with Jet2 for one week. RECEPTION Large impressive reception area. The staff on reception dealt with us swiftly and friendly. Our suitcases were brought to our rooms by a member of staff who also showed us to our rooms explaining where things were situated as we went. ROOMS Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Furniture is good with a large wardrobe as you enter floor to ceiling height. You probably need to be a six footer to reach the top shelves properly. In the wardrobe is a safe which is free. Also in the wardrobe is the tea/coffee facility which wasn't always replenished and reception had to be contacted. That said the housekeeper was quick to deliver the replacements. Also in the room is a large TV and a sofa bed plus bedside units. There was also a shower room and separate toilet bidet room both having obscured glass doors. These were not visible from the bed as there was a dividing wall on one side of which was the sink unit and hard wired hairdryer. My wife tells me the cord on the hairdryer could do with being a bit longer to make it easier to reach the mirror which was over the sink. We had a room overlooking the golf course and it was a great view. The sea could also be seen from one end of the balcony. The wall of the balcony is glass and this greatly enhances the view as you can lie on the bed and look out and still have a great view through the glass wall. There is no information book in the room which I find unusual. BREAKFAST The usual sort of breakfast you find in holiday hotels. Hot food including bacon, beans, eggs etc Continental style.. hams, cheeses, breads, yogurts, fresh fruit, pastries. Also available freshly cooked pancakes and omelettes. Everything was well laid out. Everything eaten was very good. DINNER Now here is where I have a little gripe but it has nothing to do with the standard of food all of which was very good. My only concern was that we had booked "half board" but as this was off season the half board option was in the Mamma Mia restaurant which is mentioned on the Jet2 website. This restaurant is an Italian restaurant which I don't mind but the menu is restricted to pasta, pizza or rissotto for your main meal. There are no meat and vegetable dishes on the menu.(You can get meat and salad as a starter). As I said I don't mind Italian food but eating the same thing for a week!! OK it has to be said there are two other restaurants on site .. a fish restaurant and a Japanese restaurant. We tried both of these and once again the food was very good. If you don't like fish there are meat dishes available. The hotel does give you a 15 euro credit for adults and a 7.50 euro credit for children to dine in these restaurants which is good but you do end up spending more in these restaurants and this is really my concern. I feel I should not have had any additional dining expenditure as I was on half board. OK gripe over. The staff at all restaurants were efficient and very friendly. We also ate at the poolside bar which was only average. One thing the poolside bar does need is some screening as when we were eating it was windy and was blowing things about a bit. Some sort of screening around the dining area would help alleviate this.. POOLS Three pools are available one of which is the largest I've seen at any hotel. There is also a small paddling pool and a heated chill out pool which is where everyone congregated. This pool was a perfect depth for my granddaughter to learn to swim. I have to say on occasions I felt the pool was too warm!! The area around the pool is plastic decking and can get hot. There are plenty of 'beds'around the pool. Pool towels can be exchanged by the pool. BEACH The beach is accessed by an elevated boarded walkway about 200mts away. The beach is sandy and does have lifeguards. There are also boardwalks across the dunes and towards the golf course where there is a lagoon which has various birds there (I am told) if you are a twitcher. GENERAL The hotel was not very busy at all when we were there so I can not comment on how the hotel operates when it is full. It is a large hotel. The hotel is pretty isolated although there is a mini market maybe 10 mins away. A taxi to Albufeira cost around 15 euro for the six of us. Overall an excellent hotel. The staff are a credit to the hotel.
