on down season there is no dinner buffet and we didnt know until we got there, which was a bummer.I had internet issues and the staff was not very helpful. The hotel is very far off and the oly options you have to make trips is to take a taxi, which adds up.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fabulous hotel for family"
On the beach hotel with lots of facilities for family quality time. Excellent pool area, large and very clean room and bathrom and a great variety and tastefull food at all meals. Perfect for families of 4 or more people.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel, shame about the service"
The hotel with all its amenities is beautiful. The location is fantastic. The service is definitely not five star. The staff were stiff and unaccommodating. They clearly do not want any guests to return. The dinner buffet is very poor.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect family holiday with young children."
We stayed in a 3 bed villa during October half term with a 5 YO and baby. The villa was spacious and clean, only a few minutes walk from the hotel and a local supermarket. The hotel and staff were excellent and the outdoor heated pool was a godsend so our daughter could spend all day playing in the pool without getting cold. Breakfast buffet was good […] with a full assortment of hot and cold. The Italian restaurant did takeaway and the villa kitchen was equipped well enough for us. The beach was a few minutes walk along a beautiful walkway and was clean. We will go again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent family holiday"
We (family of 4, 2 girls of 10 &11) had a great 7 day holiday. The large pool was great with good sun bathing facilities, loungers, towels, 'bean' bags and 'sofas', although need flip-flops as 'plastic' decking gets very hot! The beach was about a 500m walk along the wooden board-walk (but a pleasant distance at that). A good selection of organised […] activities drove enthusiastic participation - aqua aerobics, volleyball, football, table tennis, zumba etc Restaurants offered a great choice of good food and excellent choice of continental or 'english' breakfast. Booked through Expedia who had confirmed kids club appropriate for both of my children - 4yrs and nearly 2yrs. On arrival, were told only from 4yrs. Had to debate the issue for 2 hours before the manager was prepared to help and then only because the info on the expedia website for their hotel was shown on my iPhone in 'black and white'. Eventually […] came to the compromise of 'free' babysitting for the 2yr old at the kids club creche for a couple of hours a day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Disappointed with Hotel & Service"
The staff was not forthcoming with information, its very had to communicate with them, hardly speaks english. Breakfast and Dinner service was horrible, we were calling the staff over for tea and juice all the time, maybe not enough staff. in regards to the hotel room throughout the 7 days they only cleaned our room twice, only because we walked up […] to the cleaner and asked. We booked a tour and paid for it in advance which she logged in her book, however on the day of the tour we were not on the schedule and that tour was full, we had to choose another tour last minute. As for our room every time you flush the toilet the entire room shakes and wake you up in the middle of the night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Its got potential but needs more work, on food."
This hotel is a complete mix of excellent, good and in some cases poor. I would describe it as four star for service but food is currently only a 3 star and the kids facilities outside of the pool are not aimed at the English children and there is no play areas for the young children. The excellent The large pool though saltwater is great my children […] thought is was fantastic, there is plenty of sun beds and towels for all The rooms are all comfortable and layout all exactly the same we had a sea/pool view at the back which was good. The front rooms have a golf course view this is ok but some have a car park view this is to be avoided The b/fast buffet had plenty of choice and was of an excellent standard The prices are reasonable in my view for drinks, snacks and ice creams The Good The spa is great but perhaps pricey The staff were V.Good but some could not speak any or little English which didn't help v my massive understanding of Portuguese! The outside bars for lunch have a good range if a little slow at times. The outside bar at night would be excellent but for the current Mosquito problem which means its a write off currently literally no-one drunk at it and the inside bar is tiny for such a large hotel The Poor Evening buffet was just a mix of average food but no meals that went together so we avoided it. The Italian was not yet open and the seafood restaurant service was poor. The sushi restaurant is too small. "Luxurious and laid back 5 star family hotel"
Tasteful, stylish and well designed, the hotel feels laid back and luxurious. During our week long stay I'd say 99% of guests had children and yet it never felt over-run with kids. The decked pool area is enormous, with enough loungers, beanbags, and umbrella's for everyone, and each guest has access to hotel pool towels. The beach is a pleasant walk […] down a wooden boardwalk so it's easy to mix beach and pool every day. The team of entertainers run activities for kids and adults during the day, and into the evening there are kids games, shows and a mini disco. These never feel intrusive, the whole place is relaxed and peaceful, and activities feel more like a welcome bonus. The food is excellent, with different restaurants as well as the main Ocean Buffet. All guests are half board so have access to a varied and plentiful selection of genuinely 5 star food. There were different dishes every day, including a big choice of seafood, meat, pasta dishes, salads and a barbeque where chefs prepare different food each evening. Breakfast is equally extensive, with a chef preparing fresh pancakes and omelettes to order. The pool bar was very reasonably priced for lunch, (deep filled baguettes 4-6 euros) and as the hotel has no shops close by, there's a good range of salads, sandwiches, ice creams and drinks. Our family room felt spacious and comfortable, with notable attention to detail in every feature. Loads of TV channels, lovely complimentary products, incredible views. Great new hotel, still making some finishing touches to the property but nothing to disrupt stay. Rooms are of a very high standard, as is the rest of the hotel. Plenty of sun loungers around the pool at all times of day, even thought hotel was not full I don't think this will be a probably here. Happy with location, you can walk to supermarket and […] some small beach bars and restaurants, perfect for us and anything further taxis are cheap. Well worth using the La Carte restaurants if on half board as you get a 15 euro credit per person and too be honest the Sushi restaurant was only another 10 euros per person extra plus drinks and the food was amazing. The italian restaurant will be another great addition, offering a good range of food. Evenings are fairly quiet around the hotel, the Gin Bar could do with a bit more of an atmosphere I thought. Would return to this hotel in a moment - very relaxing break. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great peaceful family location"
Great hotel once we had sorted out check in. We were initially given a room over the car park and on complaining had a ridiculous discussion on upgrade charges until I asked to speak ti the front of house manager who sorted us out with a room which was acceptable. Despite theexpedia site listing all facilities such as kids zone and an Italian restaurant […] which when we arrived were under construction- poor from expedia as the hotel swore they had infirmed expedia- once settled we had a wonderful time as the staff and in particular the kids team went out of their way to give children and parents a great holiday. Once its finished we would definitely return. Expedia does need to be clear when advertising new hotels in terms of readiness. That being said we did enjoy our break and would recommend . . . So long as you be clearbon what a resort view is, its not a carpark and there are many many rooms overlooking it. The hotel was spotless and cleaned very well by the rooms team. Pools are great and plenty of space and loungers. The beach is fantastic with a lovely walk way there. Rooms neef an info pack and local map. Would recommend despite teething problems. Visited in June whilst still undergoing a soft opening. Not all facilities were open. Italian restaurant due to open in July. Excellent mainly fish restaurant in the grounds. 5 min walk to lovely beach. Staff were delightful if a little new to the job. Hotel very comfortable if a little minimalistic in décor. The hotel had only been open a couple of weeks so the parts that were finished were brand new. "Great Hotel for Relaxing stay"
When we arrived the hotel had only been open for 4 days so it was brand new and not very busy. As a result everywhere was very clean and 'new' looking. We must have been the first people in our room and it was spotless. However, the bathroom didn't have a door! Fine for couples but you have to know your friend well if travelling with a friend. There […] were plenty of sunbeds by the pool although the pool bar hadn't been finished yet. Beach towels were good sized and provided. The beach itself was not too busy and quite sandy - just a short stroll away. The staff were very friendly and helpful without being too in your face - can't praise the staff highly enough as they were more than willing to help with any issues even if it wasn't related to the hotel itself #for example they confirmed our excursions locally for us and let us know the change in depart times#. Food was plentiful and high quality - although maybe not enough variety for fussy eaters. One meat, one fish and about 3/4 vegetable and potato/pasta options each evening. However the salads and deserts varied. Breakfast was mix of continental and warm - really liked the option of bucks fizz for breakfast! We had breakfast and dinner in the buffet and didn't go hungry at all. Hotel is a little way outside of Alberferia town and not much locally so will need a taxi to get to town or we used the City Tour bus that stops outside the hotel once an hour in the winter months #every 30 mins in the summer#. "Neues Hotel in naturbelassener Strandnähe"
""Entspannter Urlaub in angenehmer Atmosphäre"
"Definitely not a 5*"
We had a double room with resort view. It was comfortable, but we missed the tissues, the change of toilettries articles, the hotel information guide, a table. The hair-dryer is placed on the left side of the mirror and its cable doesn't even reach the mirror. The atmosphere everywhere in the hotel is very cold. In the main restaurant, you feel like […] being in a factory canteen. Poor choice of food (no grilled food, no live cooking). The Japanese Restaurant didn't have any beef. The reason they gave us was that they had a group of customers 2 or 3 days ago and those customers ate all the beef. At the restaurant by the pool we had to wait 15-20 min to have a waiter to take our order. Another 10 min. later another waiter asked what we would like to order. 5 min. Later the table was set and another 10 min. later we got our food. Fortunately it was good. The pool area is nice and spacious, lots of long chairs, which would be more comfortable with matts. The main huge pool wasn't heated. The pool bar wasn't opened. We ordered drinks at the Nespresso bar or at the restaurant by the pool, but none of the waiters offered to bring the drinks to us, not a 5* Service. The beach is just beautiful. After 5 days, the spa opened. I only tried the pool and the sauna. It was ok, but again the atmosphere is not relaxing. My husband had a massage and found it good. The hotel is not finished. It should be more friendly, welcoming and lively.Heat the big pool. Suggest grilled Food. The staff is ok. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Such a delusion!"
08/29/14 LUISATOR DRESDA
We were expecting much more from a 5 stars resort (!!!) especially considering it was August and the price we paid!! The hotel was overcrowded and staff and service was completely inappropriate. We always had to queue, to sit for breakfast, to have lunch, to have dinner. Whatever we wanted to do we always had to wait. There were about 4 different restaurants (other than the general buffet) in the hotel which always needed to be booked in advance, not easy to find a place, we were there for 4 days we only had the opportunity to visit one restaurant. Furthermore (and this was not specified upon booking) if you have half board you have dinner included at the buffet but not in one of the 4 restaurants so you have to pay possible differences. The room was normally cleaned around 5, 6 pm. We had to call the reception for 2 times because no one came to clean up our room. Cleaning ladies don’t speak English or pretend they don’t. It was almost impossible to sleep because the cleaning lady could come whenever. In the room temperature was really high...impossible to lower grades of the air conditioner in the room..always about 27° Everything was extra. We had half board scheme but still beverages were not included, not even a bottle of water on the table at dinner. no drinks in the fridge because you had to buy a whole package of your choice between 3!!! it seems to me absurd!!! Poor info about excursion in the area, some brochures were available at the reception but if you wanted more info of course you had to queue. It’s a pity because the building and the structure is nice and new but really bad organized. Too many children and too chaotic. Maybe in September or July things are different but since in August we paid more for high season we should also get more. I had great expectations for my holiday, unfortunately I was really disappointed and I think from now on I will not opt for big resort anymore.
"5 star family holiday beach hotel."
08/29/14 nadjaweiss Lisbon, Portugal
We booked a two weeks vacation stay directly with the hotel by phone and are currently in-house. This hotel is certainly not a 5 star hotel looking at it from a classical point of view. It is not a luxury hotel and you can't compare it with the Vilalara or others in the area. However and in view of the category family beach holidays we certainly can give 5 stars. This is a great hotel for family and kids spending their vacation. Most of guests are Portuguese and English and although the hotel seems to be fully booked now in August, we don't feel disturbed by the crowd. The beach is beautiful and can be reached reached by a 5 minutes easy walk. The pool area is good, our 4 year old daughter loves the heated pool :-). All staff is exceptionally friendly, some are really unexperienced but all are willing to learn and to improve. The food in the main restaurant is very good. Lots of Portuguese dishes, all very fresh and a good variety. We also tried the Italian restaurant but did not find it special, so won't return. The breakfast is rich for Portuguese standard. We liked the opportunity of using a buffeet for Kids. Our baby turned 1 year and without notifying anybody, we received a bottle of sparkling wine with a fantastic chocolate cake in the room. Priceless! We booked a family room for 4 (2 kids) and are happy about the space, the bathroom and the bed. The rooms are daily cleaned (except the balconies) and the bedmakers react positively to our few requests. Sometimes we have too much shampoo and the other day too much bath gel but we work it out. However, The hotel is anonymous and we are missing some kind of ambience. Some of the dishes in the restaurant are not clean. Without checking on purpose, we got several times dirty juice glasses or plates. The kids disco in the evenings could be placed in a better location (how about the pool area?) as the business room used also does not create a special atmosphere. All in all we enjoy our stay here, mostly because of the convenience of our kids, the beach and the friendly staff!
"Certainly not a 5 Star but a new hotel in need of some serious tweaking."
08/27/14 Sarah D London, United Kingdom
We booked the hotel as a 3 night family getaway before we embarked on the extended family villa break. We chose it as it was close to the villa we would be going to and it was supposed to be a 5 star. Our first impressions were very disappointing. There was far to many children screaming around the foyer and completely out of control. It was all very chaotic. The receptionist was very pleasant. She handed us our guide to the hotel and facilities and we then realised it was a glorified Butlins (this isn't meant with any disrespect to Butlins as the prices are far more reasonable and therefore better value). We were told we would only be able to eat in the larger restaurant as it was 9pm and we didn't have a reservation. This was fine by us as we were all hungry and a little tired. We dropped our bags off into our nice room with a good balcony. We then went downstairs to the said restaurant. We had to queue, I'm on crutches (invisibly this isn't the fault of the hotel nor did I expect any special help) we waited whilst a stream of rude holiday makers pushed passed people queuing and showed no manners whatsoever. We did get seated in what felt like an airport lounge, it was huge. Incredibly noisy and very impersonal (5 star hotels need a lot better than this). The buffet was disappointing, bland and like eating school dinners. Cold meat dishes which should have been hot. Nothing really worth eating. We went to bed feeling like we had wasted a lot of money on this hotel. Children were still running around the corridors at 11pm. The people in the next room allowed there poor child to cry themselves to sleep between 1-2 and this was a recurring theme (again I'm not blaming the hotel but it was indicative of many of the guests we encountered). Anyway to cut a long story short, things did improve. We booked the sea food restaurant which was quiet and the food was reasonable, service was good. The pool was a fantastic size even though a little cold. The staff were in general nice, just struggling which such large numbers. At breakfast it's best to eat earlier , then you can avoid the crowds. I wouldn't visit again. I think that the main problem is the size of the hotel. It's so large that your just a number and it therefore becomes impossible to attain a 5 star feel. The fact that the mini bar is empty and you need to order mini bar package to get it stocked is ridiculous. Also, in a 5 star hotel, I would expect clean towels and replenished toiletries on a daily basis. Not because I am that fussy but because it was expensive and that's what a 5 star hotel should provide.

Stayed from 14th Aug to 20th Aug for a week half board at this hotel. 4 Adults and 2 kids. Excellent points: - Grand reception and friendly staff. - Best top floor sea view room. - Huge swimming pool and great kids pool and in pool cocktail bar. - Close to the beach. - The Italian pizza and pasta were very nice and fresh would recommend it. - Fantastic buffet, variety food every night and plentiful. Both waiting and kitchen staff deserve a good pay rise! Please keep up the good work and food variety! Things to make the stay even more enjoyable: - The large swimming pool warmer would be nice. - Shuffle bus to town. - Rather then booking restaurant in advance, would it be better to do first come first serve? - Clean the balcony every day so guests can make use of it. - More recycle facilities within hotel. - Organise some family activities, i.e. family cooking session. The must improvement: - The Koi sushi restaurant was a disappointment. It is not worth to pay the extra. - The Sobar o mar suppose to be a seafood specialist but the day we were here they didn't have that much fish available. Again it was not worth to pay the extra.

I've just returned from a week at this hotel and this is one of those cases where you find a good 5* that reflects what you pay. I mean if you want luxury, go to Conrad, Vila Vita or Lake Resort! Can't afford them? Then don't expect top notch service here. But it's exactly what you need for a good holiday, great pools, good food. I would just forbid the towels hanging on the balconies and would diversify the food at the snack bar by the pool.

We booked this hotel last minute despite reading about a few niggles from guests last summer (as has only been open a year or so) and would rate this as one of my most relaxing and enjoyable holidays. The niggles had obviously been resolved as no charge for using room safe, food in buffet was of excellent quality and plentiful (where are the grapefruits though for breakfast?!) and the service was very attentive - perhaps plates taken away too quickly!! The hotel is contemporary, spacious and well designed. The spa treatment was fantastic with its own relaxing pool and jacuzzi area. Hotel rooms could have done with an iron/ board as standard but shower area and bathroom area beautiful and spacious. Rooms if sharing with children are on the small side. Pools are amazing and our kids loved a fruit smoothie at the swim up bar! I dont like music round a pool (from pool exercises/ water polo etc) but the pool is so big that you can go up other end and it is not too loud anyway (can't hear from hotel rooms either). Italian restaurant was lovely and all of menu was included in half board deal- can eat outside overlooking grounds to beach. Lunch time snack restaurant by pool very reasonably priced for both food and drinks which is unusual and welcome in a 5 star. Very well designed and picturesque wooden walkway up to the lovely beach and far beyond- great for sunset walks - and also around the lagood where we saw turtles in the water. Do something about the kids club though! Only wanted to put our children in for an hour so we could have time in the spa and one of the staff let the lovely team down by berating (rudely) our son for picking up one of a huge number of pickup sticks or something that had rolled towards him from a game another child was playing and he just started playing with it. Needless to say the kids did not want to return. Children loved the evening entertainment such as reptile show, dances and parrot show. Some of the dances are a bit suggestive for children I would say (some scantily clad costumes great for dads but arguably sexist and typical of what you see on Italian TV!!!) All in all though, this was a great hotel, great location, great pool and great food. Would go back.
"All about rhythms"
08/16/14 John M Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
There is one thing you have to know about this hotel, and it’s both positive and negative. That is that most of the hotel customers are Portuguese. It’s all about rhythms. So, being a largely Portuguese hotel, there are hardly any German guests. I am sure we are all grateful to be in a hotel, where we don’t have to get up at 4.45 in the morning to fight it out over the beachbeds round the pool, aren’t we? Major positive. Portuguese guests have an entirely different rhythm which sees them rise for a late breakfast, and consequently at 9.30-10.00 you will still be able to stroll out to the pools and find your beachbeds and sunshades, no problem. However, and it is a big however, the different rhythms see the Portuguese families have a late dinner and pile out into the hotel lobby and bars from 20.30 onwards, where they make an awful noise until 23.00, sometimes later. You have to know this. If you innocently think you can have a relaxing evening talking, reading, drinking or playing on your PC, you are mistaken. The huge, tall atrium where reception is situated is truly cavernous and magnifies the sounds up to a dreadful cacophany, as children of all ages run, fight, cry, scream, do cartwheels, even impale themselves on the cacti. All around you. There is little the reception staff could do about this, even if they wanted to, it is a design failure. And there is nowhere else to go. The sound goes straight into the bars unimpeded, and there are no sofas or chairs anywhere else quieter. I looked, even on other floors, zero. So, what’s good about this hotel? We found the reception staff and porters very courteous and helpful, speaking exceptionally good English. Our porter even took the time to show us around. They spoiled this at reception on the last evening, when they forgot to relay the order for early packed breakfast on to the kitchens, and we went without breakfast the following morning. But apart from that we had no problems here at all. The hotel is connected to the fine beach by a long wooden causeway, which entails a pleasant 5 minute walk. The sandy beach is great for families, and the sea very safe for bathing. The three hotel pools are built surrounded by a huge brown slatted wooden terrace, which we found very good indeed. The umbrellas and beachbeds are good. There were seemingly always enough loungers, even on very busy days. The organised daytime entertainment (animacao) was understated but quite well done, without disturbing those not interested. Good for the kids. The main pool is very large, clean and warm enough. Good temperature indeed. The pool flooring needs some maintenance, but I guess that will be solved at the end of the season. We followed advice on room choice, secured a room on the top floor, which had a good sea view (paid for) and was reasonably quiet in the evening, very quiet at night, no noise from neighbours. (If you are lower, there is a probably a risk of noise from the evening entertainments and the screeching bunfights on the ground floor. Very nice lawns everywhere, which could be used by guests too. For a couple of days we had a rented car. The hotel has a spacious underground carpark open to all guests. What’s not so good about this hotel? The room we had is spacious, modern , stylish. Great shower. Unfortunately, the design-think was not that great. An open-plan bathroom, with the sink actually part of the open room, may be a contender for prizes, but is not that practical for the guests really. Washing your hands at night you will likely wake the sleepers. Aside from the small bedside tables, there was no table in the room. Unusual, inconvenient at times. I didn’t find the double bed that comfortable, but it is new and in good condition; maybe I am the problem. Strange behaviour by the bedmakers: plenty of shampoos, but the (used) soap would disappear, unreplaced. Why? Some of the towels would disappear (why?), unreplaced, but perhaps reappear the next day. Both dressing gowns disappeared, unreplaced. Why? Strange indeed. And we were not very impressed by the cobweb which continued to grow fascinatingly on the balcony throughout our stay. The small kiddies’ pool is good, but wasted. Within 5 minutes even the youngest kids worked out that the other smaller pool is much warmer, and they migrated. This warm pool is in itself a good idea, but it attracted so many guests all day, that it was often full to bursting with people of all ages. We decided we were not entirely happy with the possible hygienic consequences of all this, so this pool was avoided. Our daughter did however use it, and survived. The café beside the pool was run by willing, pleasant, hard-working staff. The prices were fair. It is a shame that the food on offer was not that inspiring, and seemingly every dish was bizarrely accompanied by a handful of crisps (‘chips’ on the menu). So, we gave up on this, organised our own lunches and used the bar for drinks and ices only. We grew a bit tired of the food in the main restaurant. Breakfasts OK, but no wow-factor at all. We found the main dishes in the evening relatively uninspiring, so ended up concentrating on the salads instead. I think the hotel is playing it safe on food, which is perhaps understandable in a new establishment, but the result is a bland offering. There are alternative restaurants in the hotel. We tried the Italian, which was of good quality, but we were not going to get fat on the quantities, so did not return. Not many flowers around the hotel. A shame. What else should you know? There is a perfectly adequate supermarket about ten minutes walk away. Directions from reception.

"Fantastic Family Holiday"

We are currently staying at the hotel and our stay so far has been excellent! A warm welcome on arrival, with very clear hotel information. Large, stylish room which is very adequate for our family of four. Beautiful bathroom. Hotel pools are superb, especially the heated one for the children-the only difficulty is persuading them to get out! No problems at all getting a sun lounger, it is such a joy to look out of our window at 9am and not see all the loungers reserved which you so often get on holidays! Beach is a 5 minute stroll down a wooden, purpose built path. Food is excellent in the main, buffet style restaurant, lots of choice even for our fussy little eaters! Staff throughout the hotel are very polite and helpful. Only minor issues are not being able to book the other restaurants on the hotel site for 4 days. Also, new guests could do with a quick guide to the buffet restaurant. Some food (e.g. the childrens food) is tucked away in another part of the restaurant and it took us two nights to find it! A room guide would also be useful- especially how to work the air conditioning! However, as I said, these are very minor issues! An excellent hotel, we would definitely book again!
"Great place for a holiday"

We have just come back from an excellent week at the Vidamar resort, staying in a villa. Our accommodation was amazing, four bedrooms, with more than enough space for two families sharing (4 adults, 3 kids). The pictures on their website really do not do justice to the villas once there. The food was fantastic, plenty of choice during both dinner and breakfast whilst maintaining very good quality. The service throughout the hotel was excellent and we felt that they could not do enough to help. The main pool area is impressive, loads of space, great sized pools and two bars (the cocktail bar was a particular favourite. You have to try the "Cosmo Pool" at the Tika Cocktail Bar. The only negative was that we had to come home. I can not wait to go back there.
