"Very nice stay in great area"
Haru hotel was an overall great experience! The staff at the hotel were very helpful and very friendly. The hotel is in a great location off of a busy shinjuku street, however the hotel is very quiet and a five minute walk from the main train station. All of tokyo is accessible from this station. Room is very clean and has air.conditioning. Im looking forward to staying here again.

"Budget hotel with no furniture"
Convenient location. If you don't plan to be in the room at all except to sleep than it's ok to stay at this hotel. There is no furniture to sit on nor do any writing. No closet to put suitcases away so they took up space in the small room. Room was not maintained or swept the entire week we were there. Hotel only emptied garbage and inconsistently changed towels daily. We were not used to sleeping on the tatami floor so the thin pad provided were not comfortable for our back.

"Okay for low expectations."
We needed a place to crash for the weekend, there wouldn't be much time spent. The tatami mats in our room were old and damaged, and the walls were a little stained. But otherwise it was a clean hotel. HaruHotel was cheap, and it was mostly used for napping and a bag drop. It worked for us, but i wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a "comfortable" hotel.

"It's a place to stay."
Hotels in Tokyo aren't cheap, so if you're looking for just a place to crash for the night without spending a whole lot, maybe the Haru is the place for you. Other than that, it's a bit dirty, the sheets and futons looked and smelled like they hadn't been washed, and the floors didn't appear to be well cleaned either. There were two air conditioners, neither of which worked very well (August in Japan can be brutally hot and humid). What I did like was the kitchen in the basement with dishes, cold/hot water dispenser, etc. as well as an internet computer if you need that. It was also nice and cool down there. The Japanese fellow working at the front desk was pretty cool; friendly and helpful, but be forewarned that hardly anybody there speaks much English.

"good location but poor quality"
I reserved the hotel because it was close to a JR station in Shinjuku and accepting a four-people family into a room. As soon as I arrived at the hotel, I realized that the nice pictures of the hotel on webpages were all misleading and that there are reasons for the lack of information on the hotel features. My room was very small, and the bathroom was shaky. The tatami was shedding, and blankets and pillows didn't look clean. Some of unexpected findings: bathroom towels are charged separately; a washing machine is charged (wet laundries are dried on strings at the back yard); baggage service is charged but bags are located in the aisle without any securing device. Almost everything was surprising and disappointing. Two good things: free wifi and nice staffs at the front.

For the price is really good and affordable. The JR train station is just a few minutes away and the subway around 10 min. Also there are many cheap good restaurants. Is a good hotel to enjoy a Japanese experience. Is clean and the service is excelent. We recommended for 2, 3 nights is good.

"Good location."
Good location! Only 5 minutes walk from Shin-okubo station on JR Yamanote line. Very close to Shinjuku station. A lot of foods and convenience stores just outside the alley. The room is small, just barely enough for 4 of us. The toilet is small, the shower is small, very hard to put our bathroom stuffs. And the smell at the lobby area is not good. When you stay at the ground floor, the sound of footsteps at the room above is so loud, it can wake you up.

This place is so handy to everywhere. If it had beds, it would be perfect! Very small rooms but sleeping on the floor on a thin fold-up mattress is not so comfy. The front desk guy was always really helpful and the free laundry and clothesline was a bonus.

"Very Near to the train station"
12/23/15 SCYX Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The room is very basic. They have a bath room and a separate toilet in the room. The hotel is located in a small alley. Make sure you print the map before going as you might miss the hotel the first time. I don't recommend kids or only ladies staying here. I find the surrounding with too many games/gambling and karaoke. There is an Aeon supermarket not far from the hotel.

"Traditional Japanese Inn in good location"
11/25/15 LiMo2009 Vienna, Austria
We booked rather last minute for a weekend stay and all the affordable hotels in Shibuya and Shinjuku were booked out, so Haru Hotel was our best option. It is very close to Shin-Okubo as well as Okubo station, which is only 1 stop from Shinjuku and ca. 15min from Shibuya by train. The area itself is really nice and convenient, as it has a lot of restaurants, shops and convenience stores, even supermarkets and 100-yen-stores as well as a post office. It is located in a diverse area with some Indian restaurants and within Korean Town with tons of Korean restaurants and shops selling K-Pop fan merchandise and cosmetics. The hotel is more of a ryokan than a hotel, it is located in a old little house in a small side street. While is it a very nice experience to sleep on a futon on a traditional tatami mat, this also means that the walls are thin and you hear other guests walking along the corridor and above you. I followed the recommendation here and asked for an additional set of futon, as they are really quite thin and hard to sleep on. The staff was friendly and spoke OK English, however they promised that our room would be cleaned and the towels exchanged on the next day, but they were not. The room itself was rather clean, but not impeccable, and the sheets had some stains. The "minibar" was an old fridge that looked like it was thrown out of one of the Korean restaurants around the corner. The bathroom was a basic and worn-out Japanese hotel room bathroom, but unfortunately no space-age toilet. The TV was huge, but there was only one lamp in the room: a cold, super bright neon overhead light. Free WiFi worked well. All in all I would not come back unless I didn't find any better alternatives, because if you book well in advance you can find more charming, less tired options for the same money.

"Basic but traditional and good location"
09/16/15 JoP1968 Cudworth, null, United Kingdom
Stayed here in august 2015 as my son wanted to experience sleeping on futons on tatami mats. The room was basic as traditional hotels are! We had a main room with a little room off it, as there were 4 of us. A toilet, separate shower room and a little cupboard to hang clothes, which was just big enough as we had 4 cases. There was also a fridge and a tv. The staff were helpful and very friendly. We arrived a little early for check in but the hotel stored our cases and allowed us to use a ground floor room to get changed, which was nice and when we arrived back for check in, they had put our cases in our room, which was fab, as there is no lift. My daughter who lives in tama decided to stay with us and the staff were happy to accomodate her at the last minute. The hotel is in a side street, which looks like an alley , but it is just off the main street, which has lots of bars, retaurants and karaoke bars. There Are a couple of vending machines outside the hotel, where you can buy cold drinks and a little supermarket round the corner. On the main street there is also a mcdonalds, which was good as my youngest son is a fussy eater. The hotel has a kitchen for guests to use and a laundry room, but we didn't use them. The only bad point was that the mattresses are thin and we are mot used to sleeping on the floor, but we enjoyed the experience. Good points, air conditioning which was a godsend as the humidity in August is horrendous! Lovely staff. Location fab- 1 stop on the train to Shinjuku train station. Stayed there for obon week so many cheap hotels were booked. Stayed with my two sons aged 11 and 12 and my husband.

"Good Location but Expensive for what you get"
06/30/15 LlamaRamaBanana United Kingdom
Three of us stayed here in a family room (en suite) for a couple of nights. Location was really good, up a narrow, quiet street, but very close to a train station, various Asian restaurants (based in the Korean quarter), and a few other bars (and a dress up karaoke place around the corner!). Staff were quiet but friendly (though difficult to converse in English). The room was basic but clean, with a TV. When I say basic, you literally lie the futons and duvets where you see fit on the floor, and the walls were paper thin, so can become a bit noisy with other guests about. It was okay though, a little more traditional than other places. Amenities were okay, smallish kitchen, clean en suite bathroom, a coffee vendor on the doorstep. If you're looking for a decent location close to the heart of Tokyo, where the train is a short hop away, this is a good option, though I expected more relative to the steep price.

"Good base Ryokan at Shinjuku"
04/22/15 Bajongian_2012
The hotel is well located from Shinjuku station. If you want to explore Shinjuku, Shubuya & Harajuku this could be one of your best option. The nearest train station is Shin-Okubo, about 8 minutes walk from the station and it is only 1 stop from Shinjuku station which is about 3mins & cost JPY140 for 1 adult - details in hyperdia.com for best train guidance in Japan. We paid about JPY 41,000 for 3 nights stay here. Just for comparison we paid Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay JPY 53,550 for the other 3 nights trip to Tokyo Disneyland. We have booked a family room with ensuite bathroom 5 months in advance ( note that; it is very hard to get a hotel in Shinjuku area), it's a ryokan style which can easily fit up to 6 people. The place is clean but a bit run out on the amenities. Towels & toiletries were replenished daily. The staff is very attentive & polite like all Japanese we had met and also WIFI was available for free. There are many restaurants & supermarkets in the main road so there no worries about any hungry tummies. We had our breakfast twice at Yoshinoya fast food chain restaurant (my daughter & also my personal favourite-the unagi rice slurrrp.) The negative side here only the futons are very thin, I had a backache sleeping in those. Also it is quite noisy early in the morning as we can hear the 1st floor tenants footsteps because of the wooden flooring. But I guess that is one of a interesting experience to stay in house turned into a hotel/ryokan.Overall we loved the experience staying here.

"OK place to stay"
03/12/15 inrepose Crawley, United Kingdom
I stayed in the spring of 2014. It was a little shabby although certainly clean. I was in a family room on the first floor and the floor matts were tired and worn. Although clean in the main areas there were lots of things which were clearly not on the regular cleaning routine guide with the Aircon in the room being full of visible dust and muck. It is a traditional Japanese style older building, so you will find you can hear other guests easily through the walls and we had some noisy ones for a couple of the nights we were there. It is also futon style sleeping on the floor with pretty thin futons. I was there with both my teenage kids and wife and we were mostly happy with the location for access to the rest of Tokyo. Internet worked a little slowly but was acceptable. The staff friendly but not speaking much English. Location wise it is in the Korean district and there are hundreds of great easy to reach places to eat nearby, especially BBQ style food. Rail access is perfect for central Tokyo, you can't beat being a stop or two away from the centre. It is nicely away from the main street though, with a 100yrd walk down a quiet side road from the main drag, so you don't get street noise at any time of day other than the odd delivery van coming through. To be honest it is only really one step up from a hostel style hotel and with the noisy students there it was not ideal.

Siamo stati all'Haru Hotel in settembre in 3 Amici. Shinjuku è raggiungibile a piedi in soli 10 minuti.
