I expected more from this hostel because of all the awards they've been given, but it was just ok. It's definitely geared toward younger travelers. You can hear *everything* as it's a very old building. The bar has a good happy hour and it's extremely close to a U-Bahn stop. Wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hostel for a Short Stay in Berlin"
A simple hostel at a great rate, but set apart by warm and helpful reception (including a free welcome drink on check-in!), cleanliness, ample space in the rooms, social gatherings and events in the lobby/bar area, and quiet hours respected on the bedroom floors. Only negative: the bed was pretty lumpy and uncomfortable (may just have been mine tho […] ugh). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent hostel- clean, friendly and helpful staff, easy access to the most important historic sites. Highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hostel close to everything"
Would definitely come back. Great staff and relaxed vibe!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Most amazing hostel!"

This is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. Really clean and tidy. The atmosphere is fantastic and easy to meet people. Bar is good fun and usually busy. Location is good and right next to the station, do very easy to get to the nightlife. It is only a 15 minute walk to the gate anyway.
"I love that place / Price is good"

I stayed there with my friends in January 2012. Location was a bit far from sites but the U-Bahn station is near, so no worries. There is a lot of shops, restaurants and an Egyptian shisha cafe near the hostel. The room was big for 04 people, which was great. very clean and while we stayed there, they put some candy on the bed after cleaning the room. that was nice. The small bar was lovely and cozy. I felt royal there. I really recommend it.
"Great Hostel - Great Location"

I stayed 18th-19th October in this warm and historical hostel. The rooms are huge with NO bunk-beds!! (all single beds). The hospitality was fantastic with help on hand about all the local attractions. Although the WIFI did not work for me the first night, I was offered the use of the computer internet for free. (WIFI was working fine the next day). You are able to pay extra for a great buffet breakfast at reduced rate which is served until 11am.... Plus check out is not until 11am, which is great for a hostel! The shared showers are not the most private of design - but they are separate for each sex and found in a clean and welcoming state. Very modern reception, lounge and bar area. I am in my late 30s (so no longer a youngster).. and would recommend this for all ages. (NB there is no lift in the building as it is a protected site, so if you have trouble with too many stairs you may want to request the 1st floor?!)
"Wow... what a great hostel"

From the moment you step into grand berlin hostel, you feel the welcoming athmosphere from the great staff and the outstanding surroundings. We travelled with three children and stayed in a 5-bed dorm. The room was perfect in size, clean and the beds were excellent. The bathrooms were all and clean and i worked fine with the shared facilities. We and the kids, can't wait to come back
"Excellent, modern hostel in a heritage building."
Excellent everything. Great staff, facilities, linen, location (easy walk to the train and shops), beautiful decor, nice rooms and bathrooms, beautiful lounge and bar. One of the best hostels I have been to. Feels a bit more like a boutique hotel.

I've left two positive reviews for the Grand Hostel and here comes another. It's a great place to stay and it keeps on getting better. Great location, friendly staff, safe clean and a great place to meet fellow travellers. It is low cost, but felt like a much more expensive place. Recommend it? I already have and two of my friends love it as much as I do!
"Fantastic Place for a Great Price"

I stayed for 3 nights, and really enjoyed my stay, by far the best hostle I've been in. Pros: -Geat staff, happy to help, give tips, always patient and sniling -Clean and good looking, beutifull and spacious rooms (no bunk beds!), cleaned daily -Great location, very close to a metro station (really important in Berlin), also within walking distance to many locations, and to night times hangouts -Great hostle bar, met alot of new people easily, cheap beer -Cheap (but that's true to the city in general, so it might just be normal within the price range) Cons: -No elevator (3 stories to the building, so it's not a huge climb, but still...) -Noisy: Doors tend to slam, the floor creaks. It's an old building from the 1870's, so it's understandable -Had alot of noisy 10 year old's stay at my floor who screamed, shouted and knocked on doors and ran away(German children are terrible). It might be a coincidence, but they do accept children into the hostle, so it might be an issue for you to. No hostle is perfect, but this one was great. Will defenitly come back next time I'm in Berlin.
"Lovely, well located hostel"

Booked one of their double rooms with a private ensuite. It felt more like a hotel than a hostel in that the room was really spacious and comfortable (Not like just a bed for the night) and our room faced a courtyard so it was very quiet in that regard. Unfortunately the doors are super heavy so they can't really be shut without slamming, which was irritating when other guests were coming and going frequently at all hours throughout the night. Also, there was a shower and bath for the shared rooms to use right next to our room so the hall light came on at all hours. The door of our room had a white sticker over what were obviously windows at the top of the door. These did nothing to block out the light so we taped maps over them to block that from coming in, which worked really well. No noise came from above, however, and I got the impression that the walls were soundproofed. The cafe associated with the hostel served an amazing breakfast (extra cost, fully worth it if breakfast is a necessity for you and especially if you can't eat gluten) - probably the best continental breakfast buffet I've ever encountered. They had bacon, eggs, baked beans, cheese, salami, fruit, cereal, waffles, buns, a great selection of yogurt, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Absolutely loved my mornings there. The hostel itself is really grand. The building is gorgeous and conveniently located on the U1 and U7 lines, although we walked almost everywhere. It was nice knowing we had two major, easy to get to lines just steps from the front door. The location was so convenient for walking though. We could get to Potsdam in about fifteen/twenty minutes and there were plenty of inexpensive cafes and grocery stores around, as well as a decent Greek restaurant on the corner. I'd definitely stay there again - but recommend ear plugs. Can't help that other guests decide to thunder around like elephants at all hours in the night and early morning so I don't count that as a mark against the hostel itself.
"Cute hostel in old wonderful house!"

Perfect location (very next to all city highlights, especially if you have bike or if you rent it)! The rooms and bathrooms are super clean, the stuff really friendly in hostel, in Ma's cafe (where you have delicious breakfast) and in the bar! (very cute atmosphere there. We wanted to walk through different bars, but when we saw how cute hostel bar is decided to have our drinks only there :)). I would only advice to them who get the room with windows to the train station - to take earclosing things to sleep well :) I liked here a lot (stayed 6 nights), would definitley come back if I will ever visit this city again!
"One of the BEST hostels out there!!!"
Between us, myself and my partner have stayed in a LOT of hostels over the years and the Grand Hostel Berlin is one of the best yet! The U-bahn stop Möckernbrücke is a 1 minute walk from the front door, so your connection to the rest of Berlin is close at hand! Also the hostel offers a really good value deal for a day travel card. Oli and I arrived at around 10pm on a Thursday night and were greeted at reception by Dario who made us feel instantly welcome without being over the top. He offered us a drink and explained that it was on the house as a welcome which is a really lovely touch at a hostel. Dario took the time to give us a quick talk through a map of Berlin and finding out what it was we wanted from our trip so that he could offer us the best advice. We took our stuff up to our room (204) and it exceeded our expectations. Each bed is "proper" bed sized and has a generous pillow and fresh duvet, the beds are not all squished in together so you have your own space and there are lockers and wardrobes in the room too (but bring your own lock). We signed up for the breakfast for our first morning and at around 7 euros each it was more than we would normally have spent on a hostel breakfast but the convenience of it outweighed the price. The food itself was ok but not amazing. We signed up for the bar crawl on the Friday night and at 15 euros each we thought it was a good way to meet people in a relaxed way but we didn't expect it to be as good as it was!! Martin (the bar tender and our guide for the night) was so laid back and positive he made it a really enjoyable experience and lead us to some excellent bars that we would never have found on our own. I really cannot fault the staff at Grand Hostel, they were polite, helpful and engaging. The rooms there are spotlessly clean and really comfortable and we would definitely stay there again! Thank you for an excellent stay! Han & Oli :)
