"Great customer service, some room issues"
The customer service in every aspect was impeccable. The room was clean and the location of the hotel(Georgetown) is very good. However, there were a few issues with the following: water kept leaking from the shower into the rest of the bathroom each time we took a shower. We complained, maintenance crew came promptly, however, the leak continued, likely […] due to faulty shower design more than anything. We asked for foam pillows, did not get them for a couple of days. "Wonderful hotel located in beautiful Georgetown"
The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We got apple tarts and chocolates in the evening and a nice little breakfast in the "living room" in the morning - fruit, pastries, coffee. We were offered water bottles as we left; it was a very hot and humid day, so they were very much appreciated! There is a coffee machine and tea pot in the room as well […] as cold beverages - all included. The rooftop bar is very relaxing; we were up there during a rain shower and it was so peaceful. First time I have tried the Capella and it was an amazing experience, from the moment you step into their reception area and are taken to a beautiful library setting which turns out to be their check in area. the problem I found is that the terrace has no bar and was understaffed. I saw the same person attending breakfast, lunch and dinner!!! the bar was very nice but she had no wine knowledge. "One of the nicest hotels ever!"
Capella is a beautiful hotel. I love the size, the decor and the bar. One of the best things about it is the rooftop patio. We had drinks and appetizers delivered there and enjoyed the nice weather. I could have stayed up there all night. Although small, our room was very clean. The view wasn't that great and the bathroom was set up for wheelchairs […] which is great for handicap individuals but not so great for us. There is no shower door or curtain so water went everywhere. (Room 208) The reason I didn't give Capella a perfect rating is because both times we ordered our breakfast through room service, it was wrong. My husband, my teenage daughter, and myself stayed at the Capella while on a college tour visit to Georgetown University. The hotel is beautiful and the service was impeccable. My husband and I enjoyed drinks in the bar, and we also had my daughter's friends meet us for brunch in the hotel restaurant. The brunch was to die for! This is a super location […] for doing anything in Georgetown, as we walked everywhere, even to the University. Our only complaint came from my daughter, that her rollaway bed was not very comfortable. We were given an extra duvet to try to pad the bed, which did help some. I recently spent a night at the Capella hotel with my girlfriend for an in town getaway whilst visiting her in DC. The attention to detail in this hotel is outstanding. Everything from the check-in to check-out is done perfectly. "Loved! Top Notch Hotel with Beyond Excellent Service"

I loved this hotel and wish I could have stayed longer! I originally wanted to stay at this hotel but chose another down the street since the property doesn't have an on-site spa. Boy did I regret that (see my review for Four Seasons). I absolutely loved the décor of the hotel-- it added a couple spoonfuls of glamour and luxury to old charm and class-- totally my design aesthetic. I loved the warm welcome at the front door by the bellman and how you are escorted to small room to check-in. The check-in experience was a welcoming change-- instead of standing at a counter, you can sit on a couch and sip on a variety of beverages, from tea to coffee to water to pop. Ester, the personal assistant that checked me in, wasn't just nice and polite like other hotel attendants at other locations, but also had a very warm, pleasant personality, i.e. she actually seemed genuine. She was a great first encounter at the hotel. She also told me that there is no "No" at Capella and I learned that they actually put that statement into practice. Every request I made was fulfilled. The room Ester picked for me was beautiful and so nicely decorated. I wish it were my actual house! I loved the coffee stand with Illy coffee-- my favorite- and teas. The same could be said for the bathroom-- small but superbly appointed. And I love Aqua di Parma so that was extra awesome bonus. Another personal touch that was included was the turn-down with a gift of choice. I requested a bottle of Syrah and there it was when I returned home from my work conference, along with some macaroons and two chocolates that were so yummy! I felt so special unwinding with a glass of wine after a long day. I loved the rooftop pool-- it was small and intimate and didn't seem to draw much of a crowd when I was there in January. I didn't work out but they do have a small workout room. I do wish the property had a proper spa. I was informed later that guests get access to the Washington Sports Club up the street but I didn't have time. I ate lunch at the Grill Room. I wanted to sit by a window for two but was informed I couldn't sit at the spot. When I asked if it was reserved, the young lady told me the owners' were having a meeting. I was ok with giving them their privacy them and sat at a different table. The young lady, Paige, brought me a glass of champagne for the inconvenience! I thought that was a really nice touch that other properties probably wouldn't dare to do. I'm not much of a foodie and got the chef's lunch special. It was pretty tasty but I couldn't eat much because of a sickness. They did package it up for me and my dog was so happy when I came home with a bone marrow bone! Knowing that I was sick, Ms. Paige offered to go to CVS for me to get some medicines before my flight. This was a super nice gesture that goes a long way in hotel service. I don't believe there was a charge for this either-- besides the items she purchased of course. Everyone at the restaurant wished me a farewell and to get better soon. One big complaint I did have at the property was the amount of light that entered the rooms. Because some of the rooms are smaller, there is less distance to hallway. This made the room too bright for me to sleep in. I called down to the front desk and they offered to put me in a different room that had doors to the bedroom. The other room was very nice but still a lot of light came in from the outside (not the hallways). It definitely wasn't black out in the room and I had a difficult time sleeping. That was a major disappointment for me. I was told later that next time to request a black out room and I think I will do that. Although the upgraded room was super dope (I believe it was the executive suite/room 406), I actually preferred the intimacy and layout of the smaller one (room 205). Overall, this was an awesome hotel. One of the best I've stayed in around the world! Every request was accommodated, even my request for large candles to use in the shower. Would love to stay here again and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a dope hotel to stay in. The truly personal touches made a big difference.
"Refined, Original, Small, Intimate and Wonderful"

I had the pleasure of staying at the Capella Washington DC when I was in the city recently to assist my daughter who was moving to the area. Everything about this small and intimate property is refined. We were quickly greeted by the valets and ushered to reception to our “personal assistant” where check in was a sit down affair. The service from all staff members was anticipatory, heartfelt and spot on. I felt like a dignitary even though I am certainly not! After being escorted to our room we were tickled to find a welcome amenity, free mini bar and then check out the roster of cool amenities. I loved the touch button technology for everything (even though I might have been a bit challenged using it at first). Although our room was the standard type it seemed larger than most entry level rooms in DC and certainly well appointed. I noticed the high quality of the decor, materials and furnishings in both our room and the public areas. I could only dream that my home could have the same furniture and artwork. If you book through a Virtuoso Travel Advisor you get free breakfast and it was amazing. I especially loved the fresh squeezed juices. I had spinach, apple, lemon and it was yummy. The bar was very cool. It felt like an old school men’s club. One night my young adult children (ages 22 & 24) came by with friends and since the bar was full of boisterous locals we went to the guests only gorgeous “living room” where we hung out, drank wine and played games. It was wonderful! I have had the pleasure of staying at other top notch hotels in DC the past few years and although I cannot day anything negative about those properties I can say that the Capella exceeds them all.
"Luxury in the heart of Georgetown"

We loved everything about this hotel, except the price of course, but you get what you pay for. It hit a homerun on location, incredible decor and style, food and BEST of all, incredible roof top deck with bar and pool. There are only a few hotels in DC with this feature. We live in the area and the Capella was a perfect choice for a romantic fall getaway. We got a Corner Georgetown suite which we loved, you would be happy not ever leaving the room, very cool high tech lighting and electronics... The drapes closed with a touch of a button. We loved the roof deck so much, we did not want to leave and they had no problem searching us dinner brought up from the outstanding restaurant as we lounged on a sofa. Breakfast in the restaurant was delicious! We liked everything about this hotel. The only problem was they would not honor the rate I saw online as I was promised, but they handled the situation very professionally by giving us a room upgrade and breakfast.

I stayed at the Capella this last weekend and it was fantastic. Their location on the canal is great, the staff was wonderful, and everything exceeded my expectations. The personal assistant contacted me in advance, and after learning it was my girlfriend's birthday, had a small cake with candle waiting for us in the room. Check-in was simple, after which the staff walked us to the room, and showed the amenities. They gave us some local suggestions to try, and offered to assist with any arrangements. Really, the most amazing part was the staff. Yes, the room was spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable, the soaking tub and rainfall shower head were lovely, the motorized drapes conveniently opened and closed from the bed, but the people were consistently great. Every interaction included an offer for any assistance, a smile, and genuine friendliness.

I stayed at the Capella Washington D.C. Georgetown on Jan. 2, 2015 for 2 nights. From the moment I waked in, I felt I was coming home. It's a small boutique hotel with 49 specious rooms from the lowest category to the highest category. It's very clear that they were thinking about every detail when they designed the hotel rooms and public areas. Tastefully decorated, I would say contemporary classic. The bar is vibrant, the food at the restaurant was outstanding and the service all around was great, very personal. The staff do their homework, as soon as you enter to check in they already know you by name. Great location, close to everything in Georgetown. Highly recommended.

Loved the Capella and we would stay again so happily. We only came for one night as we were taking a very early flight the next morning from Dulles. We absolutely want to come and stay again. Service truly exceptional, location is amazing for Georgetown. Hotel is chicly appointed, intimate. Room is very nice, spacious for an urban hotel. Bar staff were also fabulous. End to end, a great experience.

This is the second review I'm writing about the Capella, my first one was about a year and a half ago after they just opened. My first review I have five stars and this one I give five stars again. Why? Because this hotel is simply fabulous and it approaches it's customers like in a complete other way than any other hotel. You can arrive at this hotel in the worst weather conditions the doormen will always help with your luggage, it's supposed to be like that but a lot of hotels slack in this. You don't check in at a front desk but you get seated at a desk where a very helpful person will assist you with your check in and any questions you might have. I got offered a drink each time at check in and it's no problem to get a whisky or whatever, they will make sure that they serve you whatever you want. After check in you are guided to your room. I have stayed at 3 room models so far and there is nothing, really nothing that I don't like about any of the rooms, one is bigger than another and one has a better view than another but overall they are splendid. A very nice gesture is also the deserts that are plated next to the bed and the whole mini bar is complementary. My favorite is the Capella suite if I'm not mistaken. At the rooftop there is a pool and a rooftopbar with a spectacular view over Georgetown. Service at the rooftop is a little bit slow but that is forgiven. The biggest minus about the hotel is the small gym, but I'm not a big sporter so I couldn't care about it. The bar downstairs serves great cocktails and has a very very good atmosphere. The concierge is very good as well and can get you seated in the best restaurants. Just book a room here, you will be amazed by the level of service and quality in this hotel.

We stayed for three nights from Tuesday to Friday over Christmas, 2014. Everything here is perfect. This is truly a boutique hotel where the staff quietly strives to exceed expectations in every area of the hotel stay. Our suite was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The toiletries were very nice. The rooftop pool has a fantastic view of monuments and Georgetown, and it's a novelty to be in a pool in December looking at the Kennedy Center and Washington Monument. The restaurant served delicious food in a comfortable atmosphere where tables are far from one another so you have some space. This is notable because so many restaurants in Georgetown, even the good ones, squeeze you in NYC-style. We ate an over-the-top prix-fixe Christamas Day brunch where copious servings of delicious and luxurious dishes were served in an hours' long many courses meal. The best part of our stay was the Staff. It is obvious that the staff is concerned with delivering the best customer-service possible. This leads to a superior guest experience. Representatives of other luxury hotels should stay at the Capella in Georgetown and take a lesson.
"Stay at the Fours Seasons, but visit the Capella Bar."
I reserved a premium suite one level below the Presidential Suite. I was asked if there was anything the Staff could do for me upon check in; I responded that I needed a table in the bar for drinks at 6:30. The very professional staff member responded that they would try, but it was against policy to do so. I left my room for the night at 6:15, and returned to no room servicing at about 11PM. The SERVICE ROOM light was on. The property is attractive, but it simply can't compete with the Four Seasons for Staff training and execution.

Just recently stayed here for 2 nights. We had an incredible experience. Hotel service is 5*, rooms are very nice, linens are great, bathrooms all renovated and modern. Hotel is in the heart of Georgetown and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. Highly recommend.
