"worst place ever"

We stayed there for 3 nights. The only good (excellent) thing about the place is its location. It's perfect, nothing to say about that. Also, it's clean and the price is good. The decoration is bad but then I don't really care. It's hot and there's no climatisation, but there's a fan on the ceiling. Nobody speaks any english there, only spanish... I think that makes no sense. It was almost impossible to sleep, that's why we hated our stay... The bed was crappy, when I mean crappy, I mean it was impossible to be two people sleeping in the double bed without rolling in the middle on on the other... It was TERRIBLE. There was a strange single mattress hidden under the bed, so one slept on the double bed and the other slept on the small matress without sheets. It sounds like there are actually no walls. For the first time in my life I could hear someone speak on the phone in another room with a decent voice tone and felt like he was sitting at the corner of my bed. So that was it, people talking loud or normally all the time, the ring of the door ringing anytime of the night when new guests arrived, the dog of the manager or whoever she was that was barking. This really was hell. 3 nights with noise waking you up all night. If you want to sleep, go somewhere else because I even tried earplugs but it was not enough...
"Unbeatable value and location"

Location is unbeatable, right at Callao Square on Gran Via, you open your window at 1am, 2am, 3am and so and nobody goes to bed. Balcony door has good sound insulation after we would close it no noise bothered us. Rooms are every basic but very clean, the attendant lady would clean every single day and you could tell she did so. Linen is not top premium quality but very clean and beds are comfortable. A few simple maintenance items could have been fixed with low budget and little time like a few loose floor tiles or the bathroom door with no lock at all so we had to use a paper wedge to hold it closed, and the shower doors going out of the tracks. But still nothing of that spoiled our stay. There is no AC on the rooms which we already knew and didn't really missed it, we went on June and it was very hot and dry outside but at night inside, just with the fan was OK. The attendant (Juana) was very nice to us, you can tell she has a strong character but if you are fair and respectful to her, she will do anything for you. If you want to have a great time in Madrid, be well located with basic but decent commodities and save money on your lodging to spend it drinking and eating in the thousand of affordable choices nearby, this is for sure the place to go.

"unbeatable location yet bad service"

This hostel´s situation is perfect, in the middle of downtown Madrid, next to Callao subway station, a few blocks from all touristic sites and nightlife. The room was spacious and clean and the balcony had a beautiful view since it is in a high floor. Its economic so don´t expect luxury but its worth it because of the location. The downside is that the service is really bad, a woman who is always in a hurry, no help at all, specially when we asked for the internet password, she told us she didn´t have time to give it to us. So we copied it from the front desk (it was written there) and then she turned it off on purpose (as she saw we were using our iphones) so we had to go use the web somewhere else.

When we arrived, we were told the room had no light and the wanted us to go to another hostal. They showed us the room to prove that they had the room but they couldn't let us in. We didn't want to go to another hostal so we went down in the same building to the valencia hostel (very good one). Next day we showed up to explain we found something cheaper and in the same building, ask to see the room again (they told us they would fix it 3 days later, that's why we couldn't stay). They refused to show us and closed the doors in front of us. It was clearly an overbooking and they thought they could put us in the other hostal but the thing is we knew well Madrid and knew it was far away. She was lucky I was on holliday and had no time to lose with police, otherwise I would have gone there : she refused to give me a "hoja de reclamacion"
"I liked my stay in general and would recommend this hostal"

Excellent location, close from all the majors stuff to visit. Very clean rooms with towels and hair dryers and fan . Excellent view straight on gran via ( we chose a double bed room with private bathroom) The only bad thing is that the internet never worked although they say they have free wifi. The lady tried to help us but with no succes Careful if u only speak english, the lady does not speak a word of this. But in the whole, I highly recommend this hostel.!!! ( if u are lucky the view is just amazing)

We booked our room months in advance, we even got several reminders from Hostelworld but when we arrived at 11pm, we were told that there was no hot water and we had to go to a different hostel. There was not a single English speaking person and the whole experience was nothing but a sham.
"Awesome-What else can you want from a Hostal?!!"

I am a physician who travels somewhere international 5-6 times yearly. When traveling with "the buds" we like low cost, central, clean and quite. In that order. Hostal Miami has all that...in spades. Excellent price and location. Rooms were comforable. Not plush but hey this is a low cost hostal. Very, very clean. The only downside is that it is right above a fish market and there is that fish market smell in the foyer on ground level. The hotel is 4 flights up and I could not smell anything from my room. Sorry, but it is the truth. Also , there is no breakfast but there are literally a hundred restaurants in the neighborhood. Enjoy!!
"Cheap, friendly, great location, but unconfortable beds!"

Me and my partner got back a couple of days ago after spending 6 nights here. We had the cheapest room - a twin room (we pushed the beds together) with a shower and sink but no toilet. The toilet was down the hall, which was fine for us - it was always empty and always clean. The room was very clean, and they made our beds and changed towels everyday. There was a large window but it faced a massive wall. So it could be a little dark. But a bonus would be it was also very quiet - you couldn't hear the street! But you get what you pay for. I did go in a couple of the double bedrooms and they had amazing views! Its on the 8th floor. They were quite spacious and light. If my budget could've been stretched I would've moved to one. The owner didn't speak english - but it is in spain! Good time to try out my spanish. She was really nice and friendly though. The telly worked - even a couple of english channels! The hostal is in a fantastic location - overlooking Callao square. 5 mins walk from Plaza Mayor. We really liked the nightlife around the Tribunal and Bilbao areas too - which are a 5-10 minute walk in the other direction. The Court Ingles on Callao square has a supermarket if you want to buy food etc to take to the parks (I thought I'd mention it as we searched for so long to find a decent supermarket!) Only problem was that the beds we had were very uncomfortable. To the point that I got very bad back pain a couple of nights and couldn't sleep. Was still painful all morning. I'll point out that I have no history of back pain at all. My partner felt the same and actually slept on the floor one night. So I'd recommend but maybe stay in a different room?
"Too expensive, quite dirty but with an excellent mattress"
05/16/10 Casecas London, United Kingdom
I’m Spanish but I live in Belgium and I have to say it is the worst “hostal” I’ve ever stayed in Spain. We paid about 60€ per night (3 days) for a nosy and chaotic room. I do still have some doubts about the sheets… I really think they didn’t change them when we arrived and in the three days we stayed they didn’t change the towels and on the mirror, it kept the toothpaste stains until the day we left. On the other hand, the floor was clean and the bed made each day. About the bathroom, it is en-suite but it is just a part of the room. It was built probably when the apartment was converted in a “hostal” and there isn’t a ceiling which means the noises and the smelling are shared with the other person on the room. I should add it was almost impossible closing the shower door. The tv didn’t work at all. The mattress was excellent which made the bed really comfortable. In addition, there is a 24 hrs reception, which is very useful if you are arriving late and the receptionist was lovely and helpful. The area is very noisy and unsecure if you arrive after 1 am. There are a lot of strange and unfriendly people on the road, even if it is located on the heart of Madrid.
