This small hotel is lovely and has a great view. The service was wonderful. I think I experienced high altitude sickness and Xiao Yang went out of her way to walk with my husband to a pharmacy and also made me rice porridge and delivered it to our room. All the staff was extremely nice and helpful-they arranged transportation for us to neighboring cities. At breakfast, a musician played a traditional Chinese instrument just for us!

This is a beautiful small hotel located in the middle of old town Lijiang, which is both good and bad. It is very convenient, but the neighborhood is very noisy and crowded. I stayed 4 nights, which was maybe one night too long. I took some great day trips out to Baisha, Xue Shan, the Mu Mansion, and Dr. Rock's (famous botanist) former residence. The management and personnel were all extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel organized a Tea Ceremony for the guests, which was really lovely.

The owner takes extremely good care of you and so do the staff who are simply outstanding. The tea served with watermelon seed boscuits are reallywelcome. There is no meal served here and oneneeds to go out but that is not a problem. Alittle noisy because of the live singing over loudspeakers nearby. The rooms area little small but the balconey is a lovely place to sit in. Some morningsyou get a performance on the chinese equivalent of the samisen ( traditional Japanese musical instrument.

LiJiang is crowded and loud. Zen Garden is peaceful - from the fish in the ponds to the gu zheng playing. Staff are great - they worked with me to properly express myself in Chinese given my limited Chinese skills. LiJiang is the jump off point for Tiger Leaping Gorge; if you plan to hike to gorge, a peaceful night at Zen Garden is the way to start

Zen Garden was hard to find, it is not marked from the street and finding it was hard, there is also no western street signs indicating where the actual street is, and because it is not accessible by taxi we had to wheel our bags through the streets looking for it but with a bit of help from helpful English speaking locals we eventually found our way. The staff were great, they spoke ok English the room was small and basic for the price I would have expected more, but it was adequate and the setting of the hotel itself with its 'zen garden' is pretty and the complimentary afternoon tea was a nice touch and the breakfast is great.

"Great travel in Yunnan"

We had a wonderful time at the Zen Garden Hotel in Lijiang. The staff is always ahead of your needs and speak english. The local culture is part of the hotel. The beautiful antique furniture that surrounds you is like a museum. Very close to old town, they also can organize trips for you. I recommand this hotel highly! You must be ready to climb to get there but its worth it! Get room 216, best view but at night get ear plugs cause the music in town could be harassing! But it ends at midnight so you get the beat, have a snooze in afternoon and go out at night! All in all very great hotel!!! 5 stars for the staff!

"Thank you for lots of help"

My family and I visited Lijiang last week. We planned to stay at Zen Garden Lion Hill Yard but somehow ended up staying at Wuyi Yard instead. I guess that the design and decoration of both branches are not much different. The Wuyi yard branch is the tranquil and beautiful place though the room and the garden is not so big. It's good that the hotel is away from the square which is quite noisy at night time due to the music from many pubs. We can also walk to the main road to take bus or taxi. It's the same road when to walk out from the main entrance (Water wheel). We met two lady staffs there. The lady names Yang Zhi Mei is very helpful. One of good service-minded staffs I've met. Another lady which I can't remember the name is also friendly and provides good info. for us. She has got good English too. Good info. I want to add here when you go to Lijiang and want to visit Jade dragon snow mountain is that you can go by your own by taking a bus no.7 which runs all day at the bus stop not far from Waterwheel. Another option is to take a light blue minivan which can accommodate 6-7 people. In this case you might need to join with others (the cost should be around 20 Yuan). The last option is to take taxi. They will charge you 300. This high price includes going to Baisha, Shuhe old town but from what I've experienced it's impossible to make it, just going to the mountain itself already taken us a whole day. About queueing to take cable car, we've taken almost 3 hours due to the crowds both individuals and tour groups... so be prepared.

"Great location at Lijiang Ancient City and warm service"
04/15/15 Evelyn2015-Apr Hong Kong Region, China
The Inn called a taxi driver to airport to pick up us on our requested. So, we can easily get the way to the city even we arrived at mid-night. Upon arrived at the front gate of the city, a staff come up to take the luggages for us and leaded us to the inn through the cobblestone street. Then he treated us hot tea and snacks no matter it was almost 1am. The Inn is located in the ancient city and the room is clean and comfort. During the morning session, a lady is performing Guzheng which is so touch with the ancient environment. We had joined a local tour during the visit and the travel agent could only confirm the meeting time and place to us by phone around 11:30pm. Unfortunately, our phone was disconnected and we had to ask the travel agent to contact the Inn instead of. The staff handled the connection and communication for us enthusiastically. For the meeting time was confirmed at 5:50am, the Inn then arranged a staff to go with us until we met the tour guide and got on the tour bus. So thank you for their warmheart. While returning to the Inn for getting back the luggage after our two days journey, they arranged a staff to take the luggages for us again until we found a taxi. All the staff are very kind, nice and helpful. I believed I will stay there next time. Thank you very much again for taking care of us during the time we were staying with them. ^v^

"Great location and superb service in the old town"
04/06/15 rwreniii Los Angeles, California
There was a bit of confusion at the start of our trip. The website provides the same phone number for both locations, so when the taxi driver called from the airport, they were directed to this location. Our reservation was at the other location. Since the hotel is in the old town, a hotel employee met us on the street. It was late at night, and he provided us flashlights to avoid any issues with the cobblestone street. When we arrived, they offered local sesame cookies and hot tea. This was at 1AM. They were so gracious and accommodating even when they indicated we were at the wrong location. Luckily, they had a room available and switched the reservation. The hotel is a beautiful, ornate building that is in traditional Chinese wood architecture. The room was comfortable and clean. In the morning, they offered a fantastic breakfast and made sure your coffee/tea was topped up. Around 9am, they had a musician play a Guzheng, which added a nice touch to the Chinese atmosphere. After breakfast, they provided guidance on where to go and provided a map for 5 yuan. The next day, we wanted to hike the Tiger Leaping Gorge. They coordinated the bus ride to the hike as well as allowed us to store our luggage there for free. When we returned, we were greeted with smiling faces and an offer of food and tea. Just the best hosts. BTW, I failed to mention they speak fairly good english and try very hard to meet your needs. I would stay here again.

Superb 16 rooms Inn with fantastic local service. Great place to rejuvenate waking up everyday to the sound of birds and locals preparing for the day. Nightlife is very active in Lijiang so the it can get a little loud given the central location. Close to entrance but at a perfect location to be central. Not to mention the small yet home made breakfast with flexible humble and local colleagues to assist you with any request. Some oldies staff will also entertain you for tea with home made cookies and lovely stories and recommendations.

The staffs are very friendly and helpful. They make our stay even more pleasant. This hotel is located in the old city so you have to take your own luggage and expect to walk through the dark alleys. Lijiang is is really an awesome place to visit.

Rooms clean and comfortable. Location is great, just some noise from local bars that was not an issue for us. Views are unusually nice for this area of town. Common areas well decorated and staff extremely friendly and attentive. Will be back!

At first interaction on, our hotel staff arranged for a seem less transfer from airport to inn. Our reception included many local treats, including local wine. Rooms (two stays) were both lovely- one with a traditional honeymoon bed... It's like a pagoda! Showers and western toilets were a welcome reprieve. Staff could not be better! Great people who bend over backwards!
