This small hotel is lovely and has a great view. The service was wonderful. I think I experienced high altitude sickness and Xiao Yang went out of her way to walk with my husband to a pharmacy and also made me rice porridge and delivered it to our room. All the staff was extremely nice and helpful-they arranged transportation for us to neighboring cities. […] At breakfast, a musician played a traditional Chinese instrument just for us! "In middle of Old Town Lijiang"
This is a beautiful small hotel located in the middle of old town Lijiang, which is both good and bad. It is very convenient, but the neighborhood is very noisy and crowded. I stayed 4 nights, which was maybe one night too long. I took some great day trips out to Baisha, Xue Shan, the Mu Mansion, and Dr. Rock's (famous botanist) former residence. The […] management and personnel were all extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel organized a Tea Ceremony for the guests, which was really lovely. "Quiet in Bustle"
LiJiang is crowded and loud. Zen Garden is peaceful - from the fish in the ponds to the gu zheng playing. Staff are great - they worked with me to properly express myself in Chinese given my limited Chinese skills. LiJiang is the jump off point for Tiger Leaping Gorge; if you plan to hike to gorge, a peaceful night at Zen Garden is the way to startGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"sweet little zen garden"
Zen Garden was hard to find, it is not marked from the street and finding it was hard, there is also no western street signs indicating where the actual street is, and because it is not accessible by taxi we had to wheel our bags through the streets looking for it but with a bit of help from helpful English speaking locals we eventually found our way. The […] staff were great, they spoke ok English the room was small and basic for the price I would have expected more, but it was adequate and the setting of the hotel itself with its 'zen garden' is pretty and the complimentary afternoon tea was a nice touch and the breakfast is great. "Welcoming and Hospitable Boutique Hotel"
10/16/14 Judy135 W London
A picturesque courtyard style boutique hotel, complete with a carp pond - reached after a steep climb up cobbled alleys and steps and set high above, but part of, Lijiang old town. Not too good for disabled people, nor even those with bad knees - and certainly the altitude could be felt. Excellent hospitality and service, with nothing too much trouble. Tea, pumpkin seed cookies and cake always available, as were umbrellas for the unpredictable mountain weather. Excellent breakfast, accompanied by a live Chinese zither player. Horribly loud rock music emanating from the bars in the town below from late afternoon but this does stop before midnight. Our room on the first floor, with balcony seating outside to enjoy the good views over the old town, was clean and comfortable but with limited power points for room lighting and recharging electrical equipment. The bathroom was well equipped but had a cracked washbasin and leaky shower. We didn’t ask to change rooms but are sure such a request would have been met graciously.
"Chinese Classical Boutique Hotel"
10/12/14 Chaos H Kunming, China
This is an absolutely boutique hotel with Chinese style of decoration. It is informal, classical and extremely good value. We family spent 4 nights there. Though simply furnished, the rooms were spick-and-span. The interior of yard is crammed with ancient furniture and works of art. There was a giril playing the zither from 9:00am to 10:00am every morning. The staff were friendly and helpful. They gave us advices on travel. They offered us red tea and sunflower seeds cookies no matter how late we came back. They let us deposit our baggages until departure. In a word, it was the unique experience of genuine hospitality that this hotel offered to us. We would definitely stay there again!
"Great Location and Price"

I thought the location was perfect, right in the center of old town. The price seemed reasonable. The breakfast was simple but good. However I would not purchase again due to the price. Staff was very friendly and really wanted to make sure I enjoyed my stay. The hotel was able to arrange airport pickup and drop-off for a fee, which was a nice service. No cars are allowed in the old town, so when the taxi drops you off, the hotel will arrange for a man to meet you at the street, who will collect your bags on a cart and take you through the winding alleyways to the hotel. I would stay there again.
"3 nights of quiet and relaxation at this gem of a hotel in a busy and bustling town"
10/10/14 GrahamNott Nottingham, United Kingdom
We had 3 nights at this lovely little hotel just off one of the main streets in beautiful Lijiang. It was so quiet and restful it was surprising. The staff were so kind and helpful - tea and biscuits every time we came in - and on our last day after booking out they let us stay in the hotel until we had to leave to catch the overnight train! Delightful and would definitely stay again.

the place is difficult to find but the hotel rang us to confirm our booking and arranged to have us picked up from the bus station. This was complimentary and very welcome. The manager also showed us to our rooms and made arrangements for our drop the next morning to the airport including a packed breakfast. So although we stayed just one night this was a very comfortable and pleasant stay, quiet and restful. The room was large and had a lovely balcony where we sat for a drink with the moonlight bathing us. All in all lovely...

"Five nights at this good hotel"
10/08/14 Johan W Shanghai
I stayed 5 nights in this hotel and it was to my satisfaction. Staff is helpful and servcie minded. Rooms are OK and the atmosphere is Lijiang-ish. The location is perfect for walks in the old town. Note that the old town is car free so you need a 10 minute walk to and from taxis. The hotel has a complimentary pick up service from airport and they help you with luggage. Its calm and peaceful and breakfast is small but nice.
"Traditional style hotel"
10/02/14 alaquiao cheshire
There is no traffic within the old town of Lijiang so we were met by a porter with a bicycle cart who loaded our luggage in and we walked the 200 yards or so through the narrow streets to what looked like an even narrower street, through a doorway and into another world. A courtyard of koi pools, potted plants and seats, encircled with the wooden structure of the hotel, on 2 levels with verandahs for sitting out. On the upper level there are views across the old town to the distant mountains and a distant temple. The hospitality is excellent, offered tea when you arrive and everytime you return, along with buckwheat cookies. The accommodation isn't grand but it is more than adequate and makes a great change from grand corporate hotels. An earlier review complained about the lack of a kettle, but I always travel with one so had no problems making my own English style tea and coffee. The breakfast seemed a little sparse until I realised that they would make you as much toast as you want, fry eggs etc, it just isn't all laid out as it is in bigger places. All in all a delightful interlude in our China trip

This was our second stay at Zen Garden, and it didn't fail to delight. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, always on hand for a question and tea. It's a (relatively) quiet Oasis in the centre of the old town. Fab location. Only downside is bathrooms are tired.
"Love the Rustic setting for this Hotel"
09/26/14 T G HK
This hotel is a great setting in a convenient part of the ancient town. We arrived from a train from Kunming very early in the morning, and when the taxi dropped us off, we were completely lost. they sent someone to pick us up from a side street. The staff at reception were always more than courteous, and always offering friendly advice and tips. They were helpful in arranging the trip to Tiger Leaping gorge and made sure we got to the bus on time and the reception staff made an effort to make us breakfast very early that morning. (normally breakfast doesn't start that early). the decor is basic, but rustic enough. I didn't hear the music that the other travellers complained about. I stayed in two rooms, the corner room on the ground floor and one of the centre rooms, I prefer the corner room as it was larger... but very comfy the way we structured our trip was lijiang, then tiger leaping gorge hike, then back to lijiang. it was a perfect way to travel, as Wuyi was comfortable with mod cons, tiger leaping gorge was basic camping, then back to the comforts of Wuyi !!! we did visit the other location for Zen Garden, and it has a better view, but I did prefer the Wuyi location more. I would highly recommend this hotel and would come again !!! thoroughly enjoyed the trip
