This hotel is OK but a bit of a hike from the highlights. Pool is too small, not attractive. It may be suitable for long term stay. Very new property, very clean.

The old city looked good on the map, but it is also tourist and backpacker central. The location of the Opium is perfect: in a real neighborhood, yet reasonable walk or 60 baht tuktuk ride from everything. The open air lobby is lovely and the rooms comfortable. i spent 3 nights in this hotel during my trip to chiangmai. I have to say it is the best hotel i've been in chiangmai. The hotel is quite new and clean. The rooms are very big and comfortable. What's more, the customer service in this hotel is excellent! all of the staff are nice, friendly, and they provided us a lot of help. Thanks!!!!!

Stayed here last week and was impressed. Service was fantastic. I was coordinating a trip over multiple cities and had to make arrangements with far more established (and expensive) hotels both independent and large multinationals and none matched the Opium's responsiveness. The free pick-up was waiting for me when I arrived at the train station. The […] room was large and comfortable. This hotel is only a few months old so there are little tweaks they could do (an extra roll of toilet paper, maybe a soap dish, etc), but those are minor points. The hotel staff did a great job of organizing day trips, making suggestions for things to do, the entire time they were so easy to deal with and made my stay very pleasant. The breakfast was good, set breakfasts of either made-to-order western (eggs, ham, sausage, toast, etc) or thai style breakfast with drinks available at the buffet area. Location is a bit out of the central drag, but I never had a problem as the hotel staff order tuk-tuks etc. It's new hotel, so lots of tuk-tuk drivers don't know it yet, but the provided location cards did the trick. There's a 7 eleven a few paces out and restaurants down the street. Bottom line, good room, good breakfast, excellent service. Definitely recommend. Read more

The hotel was clean and the staff triendly and helpful. Our room was very big with a large 'living' area and kitchen, sepaeate bedroom and a wetroom. Nice place, very good value. New facility, excellent condition and well maintained. Breakfasts need improvement and variety. Difficult to walk to restaurants or shops - narrow streets, no sidewalks. Long walk to downtown. Staff very helpful, and will call taxis and tuk-tuks. Would have been nice to have seating at our terrace / balcony.
