This is a good hotel, well located for kleinbasel or Basel Altstadt. The only downside would be that it is next to the red light district (albeit this is tiny), so it would not be the best place for kids. For business however, it's perfectly sound. Good breakfast too!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is located a block away from the Rhine - perfect for swimming. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They gave us all free tram/bus passes for the time we were there - very nice touch! No A/C but there was a nice breeze through the window AND they have an elevator :) Would stay here again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fours all round"
Good, Clean, modern Hotel. Quite funky in design. Not suitable for families due to its proximity to Red Light district. Its still fairly safe. Restarant Next door open until 0400am so good for younger crowd. Can be noisyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
very pleasant !!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Breakfast far too expensive. Very noisy at night. Right in the middle of Red Light District. Quite shocking especially for young children, did not feel safe.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Helt ok hotell i Basel"
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel couldn't be located better. Smack in the center of Klein Basel. Very friendly Very helpful reception always smiling. Tram card is given at arrival and there is fruit to go. Lots of hot water in shower with plenty of pressure. Coffee and tea in room and bottled water if tap is not your thing.

Response by Balade Liebe Gast, Besten Dank für Ihr Feedback.
Despite bar & prostitutes just next to the hotel, it is just next to the Rhine River.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"시설은 좋지만, 안타까운 위치"
전반적으로 시설은 모던함이 느껴져서 좋습니다. 하지만, 역에서 멀어서 걸어가기엔 다소 무리가 있습니다. 또한, 주위에 클럽 및 술집이 있어서 밤새 시끄럽게도 합니다.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Modern & Nice"

Modern hotel and minimalistic! The staff where friendly and helpful. The hotel is located VERY near to the center of town (Marketplatz). It's unbelievable how well normal life and prostitution coexist in the roads around the hotel!!! It's safe don't you worry!
"OK business class hotel."

I wanted a fairly central hotel without paying excessive Swiss prices. At 175 euros I thought the hotel was adequate, but nothing to rave about, and the location ok. But facilities were very limited with a bar/restaurant only open for breakfast
"Excellent apartments if you don't mind the neighbours"
10/15/14 MAW-Oldham Oldham, England
I stayed in a triple room and we were moved to the block across the road from the main hotel. The apartment was huge and gave us everything we needed for a one night stay. The guy on reception was very friendly and helpful. He also arranged for somewhere for us to leave the key as we needed a very early check-out. It is only a ten minute walk into the centre of town and you can get a tram at the end of the street. As has been said elsewhere this is right in the middle of the red light district and the prostitutes are very visible. It is a very unthreatening atmosphere though. If you have a major issue with this, Hotel Balade is probably not the place for you. If you don't have a problem with it, this is definitely the place to stay.
"Good hotel at an interesting location"

First of all, the hotel is excellent. Our check-in was very efficient, the rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast is basic but more than sufficient for what is a business hotel and not exactly a spa. In my opinion, business and leisure travelers will find what's needed. The only drawback is that it is very close to the red light district which can be bothersome for some people. You can easily avoid walking through the street in question and get to the hotel. Overall, the location, the comfort and the more than fair price, makes this a very good hotel for visiting Basel!

Stayed here in a triple room for a football match. For Basel the room rate was good. It's only a few minutes' walk into town and you get the bonus of seeing the picturesque side of the river as you cross the bridge. There are plenty of places to eat and drink this side of the river. On the small square by the hotel there is a bar / restaurant with outside tables that stays open till at least 2am. There is a large Migros supermarket nearby with a cheap (for Basel) cafe on the top floor open from breakfast onwards. This is the red light district. It's just a couple of blocks and not that seedy or threatening. There were small groups of prostitutes strolling around day and night, chatting to locals and passers by and generally being friendly and non-threatening. No sign of the threatening guys or gangs you find in larger red light districts. It's really not a big deal unless you object morally. If you arrive late reception will be closed. Go round the side and press the buzzer next to a metal gate. Someone will answer it and the machine will dispense a token which lets you in. In the morning you can check in properly and get your free travel pass.
"Good Value, Close to the Action"

We arrived at the Hotel Balade on a national holiday so lots of services were closed. However, the Hotel was a great place to stay. It was clean, efficient, close to all the attractions in Basel, Switzerland and utilitarian modern. The beds were comfy, rooms were clean, lots of hot water. Interesting lighting in the walls. Yes, in the red light district, but we were not bothered. Very close to the river and Marketplatz....lots of restaurants, gelato vendors, bars. Great location and staff was friendly and accommodating. Place is not manned at night but facilities are locked. Good breakfast provided at an extra charge in the morning.
"Great choice in "Small Basel" - the "Soho" of Basel"
07/17/14 Stefan A Berlin, Germany
stayed here for 3 nights as we filmed in Basel. Great hotel, room was perfect. The area outside may not be something for families, but it is not bothering anybody with serious means. very friendly staff, great bar, nice business guests in the hotel. silent rooms. and a totally awesome bathroom.
great little design hotel, just a block from fairgrounds and wonderful rhine river promenade! but also next to the red light district (loud) with screaming at times. despite the location, the value for money is high and the staff is VERY friendly and competent! we always come back.
"Close to city centre but noisy and sleazy"
04/07/14 Roger J York, United Kingdom
The hotel itself is clean and modern. Staff very friendly. Noise from the street outside from midnight to 0500 Sunday morning. The area contains a number of bars and dubious nightclubs. Women standing on street corners from 7pm Saturday evening. Pity as on the face of it the area looks nice but would definitely not go back. Hardly slept at all

Nice hotel, friendly staff but my room at the front over-looked a rather dubious area. Lots of women hanging around the street corners and a busy nightclub with heavy traffic until 6:00am. Shouting, talking, doors banging ensured I got no sleep at all.
