"Great location and all new modern interiors."
Enjoyed the hotel very much. Location was excellent, specially for us who took the bus in from the airport and back, the stop is less than a block from the hotel door. The remodeling of the hotel was excellent, love the modern bathroom. The room itself was good too. The only negative is that electrical plugs are nowhere near any table or desk, or inside […] bath, quite odd. The WiFi worked OK. The short walk up to the Royal Mile was an added bonus. The hotel's breakfast was quite good and even though it was always a crowded area, there was always a place to sit and the staff kept the food supplies fresh. Front Desk staff was good as well. "Comfort, attractions and transport"
This was a nice new hotel, though hallways were austere rather than inviting. Comfortable and larger than normal for Europe, the room had a great shower. It was convenient to the major central city sights, two blocks off the Royal Mile. It was right across the street from Waverly train station. In addition to train service, that's where the airport […] bus (100) picks up, and it's only a short walk to the airport tram. We did the walk to the tram with luggage, no problem in about 5 minutes. We only had a half day and a night in Edinburgh, so the location was perfect. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The Staff Was Great But While Checking In We Asked For A Fan.....No AC...And We Never Got One! Needless To Say, WE Managed Just Fine. Breakfast Was Great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No storage for anything"
The location was excellent. But the room had no closet or drawers. Everthing stays in your suitcase.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Ideal location with easy access to all forms of transport. The bed was really comfortable and bathroom clean with great shower. A small fridge would have been good, but would be hare to fit one in the room. Have stayed here twice now and would definitely stay again. They also stored luggage for us while out of Edinburgh which was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Nice and Good Location"
First thing, it is easy to find. It is right across the street from the Waverly Bridge stop on the Airlink bus. This is also where you catch the hop-on/hop-off bus. The castle is within walking distance, though it is a climb! The Royal is just the next street over (though you have to climb about 100 steps here as well) and many restaurants and pubs […] are an easy walk. The hotel itself is rather nice, though one thing I didn't like was that they didn't supply regular soap. They had a hair and body gel that I guess was supposed to be good for everything and I did use it on my hands, but I'd have preferred soap. The beds are okay. Overall I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely consider it again. Very nice and great location! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed here for two nights while in Edinburgh. We were able to check right in to our hotel. It was clean and comfortable. It was a close walk to the main street and about 20 minutes to the castle. It was also a short walk to the new part of town. There was a lot of restaurants around. The hotel attendants were nice and helpful with recommending restaurants. […] I definitely recommend it as a place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Perfect location, very comfortable beds and great shower. Would stay again - in fact we are nowGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We arrived in Edinburgh after 27 hours of travel. Hotel One was right across from the train station. It was a welcomed relief to check in. The staff was courteous and extremely helpful. The room clean and the beds comfortable. We were on the 7th floor and my only complaint was that the floor was hot, and the windows don't open very far. But the staff […] offered to change our room. We opted for a fan instead. It cooled sufficiently by night time, and we were out of the room all day anyway. The breakfast was very comprehensive for a continental breakfast and we chose to add it for our entire stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean and convenient"
Small but adequate rooms. Room was uncomfortable only because it was very HOT with no way to ventilate or cool down. Hotel staff very friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient to sights and rail station"
Nice hotel with a great location as easy to walk to everything. Friendly and professional staff. In future would like to see a room safe added to every room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Motel One was in a perfect location for us. The train station was across the street. The bus from the airport stopped in front of the hotel. We had a short walk to the Royal MIle, Princes Street Gardens, St. Andrews Square and more. The hotel is in the modern boutique style. Our room was small, neat and clean. We overlooked a small courtyard with other […] rooms from the hotel looking out too. We therefore had light, but no city view. We had wifi, tea/coffee facilities, but no fridge and no phone in the room to call the front desk. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel with lovely staff. Great location."
The room was ready early so we were able to check in and get settled. The location is walking distance to the Castle as well as shopping and restaurants and pubs. The room was clean and quiet and the staff was friendly and accommodating. It was a good value for the money.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Understaffed front desk, otherwise fine"
Picked this hotel because it was close to Waverly train station and the Airlink bus, as well as the Royal Mile. Two of the parties in front of me at check-in seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to check in, however my check in was normal. When I came back from dinner later in the evening, the lobby was full of tired looking guests waiting to […] check in. I think I was lucky in that my wait was ~20 minutes, and I was flying out the next day. I can only imagine the hassle for those guests who had been on planes, trains and automobiles for 24 hours or longer. Other than that, the lobby and rooms are modern, comfortable and clean. To get from the main building on Market street to the "Cockburn Street" building requires taking the lift to the fifth floor, a walking bridge and another lift, and following a lot of signs along the way. Notably, there were several spots where there would be two or three stairs; guests with disabilities or traveling with a lot of luggage may want to ask for a room in the main building. Also note that the lifts have a recorded voice that announces "Fifth Floor. Going Up" etc. Though my room was a few doors away from one, either the sound wasn't noticeable in my room or the lift in the Cockburn building wasn't being used that much that day. Overall, the value of Motel One is good enough that I would definitely stay there again; I just wish they could handle the check-in process more efficiently. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Long Hallways and lots of stairs"
The Edinburgh Motel One is very convenient to Edinburgh's Waverly Train Station and old town. It's a typical European type hotel with modern furnishings and rather sparse furnishings. It was very clean. The biggest problem we had with it was that we had to walk a very long way to get to our room and had to lug our suitcases up many stairs and on two […] different elevators. It seems they could put ramps in, in place of the stairs. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Edinburgh Waverly Train Station very nearby."
Our room was too warm and we found no way to cool off. Also no electrical outlet nearby for provided coffee/tea kettle.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Conveniently located to Waverly Station/Bridge"
The hotel was easy to find, only a block from the train station (exit on Market St and turn right, walk 1 block). It's only a 5 minute walk to the Royal Mile so plenty to see and do near by - including Princes St Garden and the galleries across the street. The staff was polite and helpful. Breakfast was fine (add'l fee). The room was clean and comfortable. […] Two things in the room were a bit difficult to manage. There is no side table near the bed and with no phone in the room for wake up calls, one needs a place to live a clock/phone....... or a cup of coffee! The other is, as others mentioned, the very odd placement of the ONE outlet - up at light switch level. Very bizarre. There is a Euro-style plug near the bed - which worked for me as I'm traveling with an adapter, but it might not be too helpful for the unprepared. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Ultra modern hotel in old town"
Super staff. Brand spanking new hotel. Two minutes to the train. Excellent bar and Gurkha restaurant across the street.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff was professional & friendly. Very clean, modern hotel. Can't beat location if you are traveling in or out of Waverly Station. The downside, bed was only slightly softer than laying on a board of wood, & "Egyptian Cotton" sheets we're more like wool than cotton.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel good location"

"Practical location for short stay"
The room was modern and nicely designed but spartan. Only 2 plastic cups. Only one small desk. No hand soap bar and only body/hair wash for the shower. Relative shortage of seating in spite of abundance of floor space. Flat screen TV not working and not mended in spite of 2 complaints on separate days.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Looks great, but disappointing."
We had returned to Edinburgh from Dufftown for a couple of days before our flight home. We booked this hotel on-line before leaving on our trip, and it looked fabulous for the price. Turns out there are no phones in the rooms and the queen beds are nothing more than two twins put onto a queen foundation and enclosed on each side by a built in headboard. […] We could live with that, but the beds actually felt like they were slanted downhill at the headboard, so we ended up sleeping with our heads at the foot of the bed. Not everyone that visits Edinburgh is freezing, but the only bedding provided were down comforters, which were way too hot. We had the window wide open all the time, but this proved a problem, as we had been given a "quiet" room away from traffic noise, only to discover that there was a "close" (which is a staircase leading from one street level to another) right below us and as children were on a school holiday while we were there, we had to endure drunken 18 year olds screaming, talking and laughing at the top of their voices most of the night. Since the close is there, it has to be lit, so there were bright lights throughout the night, which made sleep pretty difficult, since we had to have the window open for cool air and closing the drapes over the window blocked the airflow. The hotel did not have a portable fan, so there was no alternative. The hotel looks good and the manager was as responsive as he could be, given the limitations, but we can't recommend. "Location was amazing."
Clean, pleasant, and perfect for the low key traveler who wants a nice place to stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
I loved the location - one block off the Royal Mile and a short walking distance to trains and buses. I thought the room and bed were comfortable... a little hot at night but that was solved by opening the window and turning the heating system off. The room and bathroom were very clean. There were no phones in the room (which means no wake up calls) […] so bring an alarm. The internet signal was poor in my room... the front desk was able to look up information for me as an alternative. I was not allowed to check in early, however they had free luggage storage which I used for two days between hotel stays when I could not take one of my suit cases with me for a tour. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Extremely convenient and cost-effective!"
This hotel did not even show up on our radar when we began searching for hotels in Edinburgh. We were traveling with luggage and didn't want to have to lug stuff everywhere. We're so glad we found it. This hotel is so close to Waverley station and a short walk (albeit very uphill for those with mobility issues, occasionally up some stairs/closes) to […] the Royal Mile. At a very affordable price, this hotel was bare bones but comfortable. Small bathroom with not a ton of space to spread out or 2 people to get ready. Few toiletries. No closets to hang clothes up. Small table space. We were just 2, but I don't know about size of rooms for larger family or if you bring a lot of luggage. If you are looking for a luxurious splurge, this is not it. But if you are looking for a safe, convenient, clean place to hang your hat while out and about visiting Edinburgh, try this place. We would return here again if we were back in the city. Very convenient location in the new town but across the street from waverly bridge street bus station for airlink. Then a quick 5 min walk to old town. The rooms are run down and the construction noises are distracting. Service was average.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Good Night--"
I stayed just one night at Motel One, but the staff, particularly Nicole at the front desk, were very supportive with a contact problem I had. The floor plan of hallways is complex, but signs make it navigable. The room itself was quiet and well appointed. The location is excellent, just two blocks down from the Royal Mile, and two blocks from the Waverly […] Train Station, where you can park all day (most of the streets are 3 hours). Don't be fooled by the name "Motel." This is not a roadside stopover--it is a charming full service hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Minimalist design budget priced"
The hotel is clean and new with modern, minimalist design. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. The free wifi service was reliable and easy to use. It's a hotel that offers basic comforts at a reasonable price, ideal for travelers on a budget who want to be in the center of the old town of Edinburgh.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"An Affordable Gem"
Motel One was a special find onHotel.com. We needed a convenient spot near Waverly Station following a train tour of Scotland. Motel One is a gem. "Mediocre Hotel in Great Spot"
The hotel itself is mediocre at best - the layout is haphazard, the rooms are sometimes oddly shaped, the shower temperature fluctuates between hot and cold and doesn't have much pressure, the beds are rock-hard, and one day the banging from the kitchen woke us up at 6 am and didn't stop by the time we left at 11am. There's no way to contact the front […] desk from the room and the internet barely works. There is no A/C, which honestly usually isn't an issue in Scotland, but then again it makes me wonder how well their heat system works because there is no way to change the temperature in the room, just increase the fan speed. The bar in the lobby is ridiculously overpriced. And there is no parking - the closest garage is past the train station. But the personnel were nice, the place was clean, and the location is absolutely fantastic. It's next to the train station (but we never heard sounds from the station or anything), only one street away from the Royal Mile, and is within walking distance of absolutely everything. There are several key attractions within a half-mile of this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location at a fair price!"
We enjoyed our stay at the Motel One Edinburgh-Royal. The location is great - very central and right in the middle of the Royal Mile. The room itself was comfortable and decently-sized for a city. Parking can be a bit of a hassle if you have a car with you but there is a parking deck not too far away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"convenient for train station and national gallery"
The hotel was comfortable, though less frills that I would have thought. The wireless worked part of the time, but in the evening, when most of the hotel was apparently using it, it was so slow as to be functionally useless. People were helpful, the room was clean, and the location was ideal for me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was unhappy only with the lack of telephone in the room or any other way to contact the front desk. Otherwise it was lovely.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, small room"
The staff were friendly and helpful. I actually had forgotten to print a voucher out that I needed for the hop-off-hop-on bus and the concierge let me come behind the desk and use their computers and printers. It was very nice. The room was clean, but small. We did smell smoke through the window...no idea where it was coming from because the window […] appeared to open up to just a brick wall. The location was perfect. My experience was nearly a perfect stay. The only draw back was a few quirky things with the actual room: no nightstand, odd light switches(you never quite knew which switch turned on/off which lights) , two twin blankets for queen bed rather than one large blanket and there were no bars of soap to wash hands with only body wash gel. Other than these […] few quirks I highly recommend staying here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
