Room ready on arrival, staff very pleasant, plenty of hot water, didn't eat in the restaurant so cannot comment, but prices looked reasonable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel clean and tidy."
We found the shower complicated and annoying, at times the water ran cold and you had to flush the toilet to reset the system,. Our room was noisy but comfortable especially the bed. The staff however were outstanding and the breakfasts were very good.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good bar, OK rooms, OK breakfast"
Good bar with reasonable choice of beers, breakfast was OK, rooms OK, did what it said on the packet.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was very disappointed with the Farmers Arms and wrote a review on their website. Up till now it hasn't appeared. I am of the opinion that Hotels.com should not list/recommend this establishment. My booking was for three nights. Two was more than enough for me. the following is what I wrote as a review:- "I booked and paid for 3 nights B&B for 17th, […] 18th & 19th March 2014. I booked it through Hotels.com. I arrived at 3-30 in the afternoon of the 17th only to find the place was closed and was unable to gain access. I had to wait until 6.00 PM. evening opening hours before I was able to gain access. I arranged for breakfast for 7-30 the following morning but again could not gain access as there was no staff present. I was eventually let in by the cleaner and she had to phone the chef who arrived about 10 minutes later. The actual room was reasonable but the bathroom was at best disgusting. Mildew and mould in the shower cubicle and at the back of the actual toilet was filthy. I decided against staying the 3rd night. Not an experience I cared to endure. I would certainly not recommend it." Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ideal for visiting Yorkshire"
Had a lovely time. At pass out at Catterick Barracks. Very convenient location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice pub with good food."
The pub itself was really nice. The room was ok but the floorboards were really noisy and the window was only single glazed so you can hear the road but this is an old building! The ensuite was disappointing. The shower had black mould in it and it smelt when in use. The ensuite is also very small. Our evening meal and breakfast were really nice.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good food and a good base to drive from."
Stayed two nights B&B with a view to exploring Richmond and Barnard Castle. The room had lots of storage, was clean and comfortable. The Farmer's Arms is on a busy road but we slept well. The area around the Inn is factory units and there doesn't look much to walk to. It proved a good base to drive from though. We checked in at lunch time and the restaurant […] was busy so we decided to have our evening meal there. The food was excellent, so were the full English breakfasts we enjoyed. Cooked and served by people clearly aiming to please. The staff were always cheerful, willing to engage in conversation and very helpful. This added to the enjoyment of our stay. "spacious room for family"
room was nicely decorated, spacious and our daughter had an adjoining room which was large with twin beds. However, there was no blind to one side of the bedroom(2 velux windows) The other had a blind but it needs a blackout blind to stop us waking up early in the morning. The main bedroom had a very thin curtains and considering it's by a main road, […] it needs thick curtains to stop noise and light coming through. Having said that the noise wasn't too bad considering is above a pub and next to a main road. We could hear the noise from the pub but it didn't disturb our sleep. My main issue was the bathroom, the shower was too strong, and you couldn't adjust it, no way my daughter could use that, had a shower screen you couldn't adjust which meant there was water on the floor and to my surprise, they knocked on our door soon after my shower to say i've flooded the restaurant! So all in all, was ok and good location to richmond, nice breakfast but it wouldn't be my first choice. Also tv wasn't working which wasn't a big deal but would have been nice for my daughter. "No place like home!"
Well like any internet photograph the reality can be somewhat a surprise. In this case the glasses are very rose tinted. We we allocated room 1 which is the 'Cath Kidston' room in the photos. My partner noticed the 'No place like home' poster and wondered why your would it in a hotel room. The shower room is only for the brave with its Sanliflow toilet […] and 1970s green and carpet... for £40 a night would be ok but the rack rate is £115 is ridiculous even at £70 I would stay with Lenny Henery. After a good meal we retired to bed to find that the sheet was a double and the bed is a king, The mattress and covers showing, thankfully the bar noise finished shortly after 11pm. Our sleep was interrupted by the burglar alarm at 1 38 am, at this time you realise that the hotel has no staff onsite (yes really) once it is closed. I called the emergency number on the door and got a youth who eventually understood what the problem was and must have sorted out the problem, the owners phone went to voice mail which is odd! Anyway no mention of this in the morning by the staff until I mentioned and find out is a common problem when window is opened in room 4 ...no wonder the owner keeps a low profile! Anyway my advice is to give a wide berth. Eat there but only stay if you have to. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent food let down by accommodation"
The bar is excellent and serves top quality food. staff are really helpful and friendly. However it was let down by the accommodation, which is outdated not very comfortable and my room was never cleaned or replenished with tea/coffee, towels etc.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel,shame about the wallpaper"
Pub and food was very good, apart from my wife's dessert. Am afraid the room had been decorated in a cheap and tacky style. Ensuite was also not very clean. When we booked in the bar manageress or owner asked the waitress to show us to our room. When I booked a table for our evening meal she did not realise we were the same people who had booked into […] the bed and breakfast only a couple of hours earlier. Am afraid we would bot stay again but would eat at the pub if we were passing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Generally good only let down by the fact that we were not informed about inability to check in between 3pm and 6pm, even although we phoned only to get the answer phone. We left a message to say we were outside at 4.45pm but to no avail. We had to sit in the car in the car park until 6pm. Luckily, due to everything else being excellent, this did not […] totally spoil our visit Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Bed & breakfast but no breakfast!!!!!"
12/09/14 Hydesters Northumberland, United Kingdom
Booked this last minute due to working close by, rooms very basic but clean, I was given a basic overview of the bnb by reception, I was asked if I wanted to order food & was told they would be a wait if I did, once the pub closed I was left in the accommodation alone all night, advised on check in that breakfast would be served from 07.30, only to find at 07.49 the whole place to be I pitch black let alone to serve food, had to leave the accommodation without checking out no one to be anywhere to be seen, I was advised to leave the room key in the door????, basic accommodation, basic service, cheap price but at least at other places you get a breakfast at a "BnB"!!
Stayed here recently for 2 nights on a trip up to see my sister and family. Whilst quite quaint and old fashioned, only 4 rooms and more of a old B&B than a hotel. The rooms we're clean and tidy and complete with the necessities. A few problems tho, we stayed in room 3, so can't comment on the other 3 rooms. The windows really don't keep out much noise from the quite busy road outside, but they're in keeping with the style of the pub so upvc windows wouldn't look right. Every floor board creaks, the toilets due to the saniflo system they are are noisy, even from the other rooms. But the biggie is the bed. The mattress was bouncy, felt old and collapsed, and offered no support at all. I do like a firm bed but even as far as soft beds go, really too soft. I had a stiff neck every morning. All in all ok but probably wouldn't stay again, but never say never. Ps the food was good tho!
"A chance find"

Came across this pub by chance - and what a find. Had a early Sunday evening supper en route home. Piping hot leek and potatoe soup served with warm bread followed by Asian style Salmon, Fish and chips and code and prawn morney. Large portion of fresh vegetables. Everything was decicious and if we lived locally would certainly become a regular place. Staff were friendly and service came with a smile.

We stayed at the Farmers Arms for a short midweek break. The accommodation is clean and comfortable. We found all the staff to be really friendly and polite and the food was excellent . Beware though the portions are very generous so arrive hungry........
"Staff need to be professionally trained i.e. Manners!"

Went for Sunday lunch with my family, food ok but only had beef left when usually there is four kinds, just warm. Drinks ridicules - had 2 lime and sodas £1.60 each and a blackcurrent and lemonade which was £3.30 for my young daughter. One of the waitresses wasn't at all forthcoming when I ordered food, no smile, no please or thank you and was chewing gum and blowing bubbles with it. She served a couple with desserts still chewing - disgusting. Won't be returning there until standards are hightened.

myself and my partner have been here a few times for a meal and we could not fault it in anyway. the food is amazing and well worth the money. however we have not stayed in the hotel part, I would recommend the food to everyone, the building is clean and tidy the staff are very polite and helpful.
"Top pub meal, great service!"

Today we went for lunch at the farmers arms. We had pre-booked a table, unsure of how busy it would be. When we got there we found it to be quiet but luckily they had reserved us a nice table by the window. We were promply served and told that the tower burger - which my husband ordered - would take half an hour to cook. We said this was fine but asked for our little girls meal to be brought out sooner if possible just so she could get sorted. They were very helpful with this and her meal was brought out promptly. Our meals followed shortly after. All I can say is our meals were perfect. The fish and chips I had were the best ive had in a long time. The chips are lush!! After our meal they brought out a cake for my father in law, with a candel and plates so we could eat the cake. Even when my father in law asked for a coffee with rum in, the waitress made it up for him. Service couldnt have been better and food was delicious. Would deffinatly go again!!
"A very enjoyable evening"

If you are in the Richmond, North Yorkshire area make a point of visiting The Farmers Arms at Brompton on Swale. You will not be disappointed. A relaxed, friendly atmosphere, pleasant and attentive staff, really good food at competetive prices, prompt service, and a fine selection of beers, wines and spirits make for a really great experience. My husband and I and any visiting family members will be returning soon.

We booked as a work do for a college leaving meal. Asked to pre order meals as we wee a table of 11. We were all arrived and sat at out table but 7.30 the time the food and table was booked for. Half hour went past no food and no one to ask if there was a problem??? We were round the corner in another room from the bar area when one of our table went to order a drink asked if the food was on it's way the reply was "shortly". 30 mins went by after this and we where all very hungry disappointed frustrated and getting ready to leave. I went to ask how long food was going to be as 2 of our members of the group have diabetics and needed to eat or leave to get food at home so they did not become ill. I was told " no longer than 10 mins as they were waiting for the chicken to cook". I as a chef my self know chicken does not take over an hour to cook!!!! We finally revived out food at 9oclock The waitress did not at any point come to explain any delay or problem with the food. We had to find a member of staff for an explanation. This I find is unacceptable. We did how ever get given 1 complimentary drink each but st this point all of us where wanting to leave As we had no food and no idea of when it was gongTo arrive if at all. It did finally come like I mentioned 1 1/2 hours after we had pre booked out food for. Very disappointing and such a let down for our friend whos leaving party it was The food was enjoyable but why wouldn't it be after an hour and a half wait. The salmon dishes where discribed on the menu as marinated in orange and ginger with chilli sweet and sour sauce the 3 of us who had this dish all said none of these flavours where detectable so we were not entiallg sure what it was served in a sauce of but where too hungry after out hour half wait to mention it as we did not want the food to be taken and started again as we could not risk another hour half wait for it to arrive to us as the rest of our party would have left by time we got ours back. Such a disappointing experience. We will not be returning and not recommending it to any one who is hungry. I have worked in restaurants and feel that this was a very unacceptable wait time in a not busy pub and the lack of communication about the delay made the matter frustrating. Had we had been approached and told there was a problem we could have understood and been more patient but having to guess what was happening with the pre ordered food we were all about to grab our belongings and leave when the first meal came I the table. We were forgotten about we think. We still didn't know the reason why we waited so long for our simply food dished to be cooked. Not a good customer service or time keeping

Visited for a carvery when passing, chanced a table without a booking. Charming little pub which was very busy, got a table in a little side bar room, nice and cosy. Toilets lovely and clean also. Weird system regarding ordering / paying. Ordered drinks at the bar, asked to set up a tab so we could pay at the end, told this was fine, was given a table number and told to join another queue. Went to order carvery at a separate queue, but then had to pay before we could get our carvery ticket, so couldn't get a tab? Confusing. Asked if we wanted any more drinks or deserts adding onto the bill before we paid - not sure how we would have known what else we wanted to drink when we had only just got our first drink or whether we wanted a pudding? Anyway, queued up for carvery, but it was more like school dinner queue. Usually I would expect to be able to serve myself at a carvery - that's the point isn't it? Instead after we had been given the meat and frozen Yorkshire pud there was a lady slopping overcooked veg and sloppy mash and mushy peas on the plate. Bizarre. Average Sunday lunch in a nice setting. Wouldn't rush back unfortunately.
