"Just an excellent place to stay allround"
We stayed for a Bank holiday weekend to walk in the North Yorks Moors - the welcome was excellent and the cheeriness of the staff can not be faulted. We had a room in the pub building above the bar, which was excellent and there was little noise from the bar below. Breakfast was first class and the restaurant in the evening had a good choice and was […] equally as tasty as the breakfast. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A brief but pleasant stay"
Although passing through on business, it was nice to stay at a hotel that resembled a well appointed holiday let rather than the hotel norm.Genuine Expedia guest review
"One of the better hotels."
Fantastic room , reasonbly priced food and good service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Everything about the hospitality, rooms and food was great. Thirsk is not necessarily the most beautiful part of Yorkshire, but a good place to stop on your way North.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Left us speechless when we saw the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Immaculate, good service, clean and friendly, value for money and warm Yorkshire hospitality, thoroughly recommendedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A great, very modern and well equipped room. A really nice bar and restaurant with great food. Breakfast didn't start until 8am but I was in the area on business so had to leave by 8.00 but they were really accommodating and served me early and it was delicious. I wish I was there for leisure and could have stayed longer!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Wonderful hotel and setting"
This hotel is in a beautiful setting very quiet and peaceful - on the edge of the Yorkshire moors and only about 20 miles from York. (you would need a car to get there) the gardens and rooms are great the restaurant is excellant and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. the rooms are fabulous and I wish we had been able to stay longer - I am hoping […] to get back there next year and to stay longer I would thoroughly recommend it. Just an overnight stay BUT Great pub and hotel, friendly helpful staff. Room, bed, bathroom etc perfect. Food wonderful, very clean throughout. Smashing!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a fab room with views looking over the country side. There is a private patio with the room we were given. Unfortunately due to the weather we were unable to put it to use. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable hanging a sofa and chairs. The bathroom is very spacious offering both a bath and walk in showe with the choice of two shower […] heads. Plenty of toiletries are available. Tea and coffee making facilities were excellent with a cafeteire also provided. Fresh milk is also available. The food is excellent. You cannot fault the service all staff extremely attentive and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and respond to your needs quickly and efficiently. If there is one small criticism there were no face cloths in the bathroom. Breakfast had good choices something even for the most fussy eater. Again the staff at breakfast were professional and polite. Offering more tea/coffee and toast as required. Will define toy be staying again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We booked a night here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and it is wonderful. The garden rooms are fantastic, remote controls for the blinds, heated floor in the bathroom, patio area, and so on. the coffee making facilities in the room had fresh ground coffee and a cafetiere, with fresh milk in the fridge. I just wished it had been cold enough to use the living flame log fire - maybe a good excuse to go back in the winter. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food in the restaurant was excellent. I would definitely go back.

We booked all ten rooms at the Carpenters Arms, for a weekend horse racing at Thirsk, with some friends. We have been visiting the area for the last five years, and we're recommend the Carpenters by a business colleague. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, and the food, service and hospitality were superb. Breakfast on Sunday was a little on the slow side, compared to the Saturday! We shall return, sooner rather than later.

Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our room, which was fantastic. Super big bed, lovely large bathroom and a good seating area with loads of storage space. The meals at Carpenters Arms are very good especially the breakfasts. Unfortunately the weather was not good enough for us to take advantage of our outdoor patio but the view from the rooms was amazing. Really recommend anyone visiting Yorkshire to try this pub with rooms.

Had a meal for four today, with the ploughman's board to start with which featured excellent quality cheeses. For main I had the 10oz Ribeye steak which was well worth the price though compared to The Carpenter's Arms sister The Black Bull it was not as good - the effect of the Big Bertha oven becomes apparent, though their was nothing to complain about. The only real complaint I have was the chocolate brownie for dessert - for £8.95 - was not worth it as it was pretty small given the price. Service was of an excellent quality, whilst the establishment itself was overall good. Overall I would recommend the restaurant again, and given the view over the balcony I honestly feel the accommodation seems worth a try.

This is the second time we have stopped and again the room and staff were excellent. We stopped in the garden room 'Arden' this time which has lovely views over the country side, we opened the patio doors sat on the patio and enjoyed a couple of drinks, very Tranquil. The garden rooms are finished to very high standard which is continued with the fixtures and fittings. The staff could not be more helpful and attentive and the food along with the service excellent. We shall be staying again it is a perfect place to unwind and chill but not too far for places to visit.
"A delightful hotel"

We stayed here on bank holiday morning and arrived after a long trip from Wales. We were warmly welcomed by reception and allocated a warm garden room. the rooms are spacious with a bath and separate shower and separate vanity station. Comfortable sittee and arm chair and huge TV. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the spacious restaurant and a night cap from the very well stocked mini bar in the room. Thank you for a lovely experience!

We stayed in one of 8 garden rooms set around two sides of a courtyard garden. Each room has a small patio area which is fairly private considering the proximity of other rooms. Lovely views to the distance too. The room was large (as was the bathroom) and appointed to a high standard. A sitting area with coffee table, flat screen TV and a remote control gas fire were welcome additions and very pleasant with views through the patio windows to the garden and beyond. A heated cupboard for hanging wet walking clothes was a great idea. The minibar was well stocked too. The room safe was unusual in that it was actually a gun safe so it seems the owners have thought of everything. Finally and most importantly, the bed was supremely comfortable and the soft furnishings of a high quality. Criticisms? The bathroom sink had a small crack! Now that is nitpicking.

We booked a last minute overnight stay here, I was glad I rang to book as if I'd booked online I wouldn't have been given the special offer of "book 2 rooms on a Sunday night and get the second room half price." We booked garden rooms which were stunning, large rooms with a sitting area for 4 around a fire , honesty mini bar, fantastic bathroom and king sized bed with wonderful pillows and duvet. Outside the room was a secluded patio area with chairs and a table. We had taken our own bottles of fizz and wine and they were happy to provide a nice bucket. Sat outside enjoying the sunshine and the stunning views. Our evening meal was good, a little disappointing that the chateau briand was served on cold plates and wasn't very warm when brought out. Felt this was £10 too dear at £60. Other meals were fine, good selection of cheese. Breakfast was good and then we decided to drive over to the Black Bull at Moulton (another venue owned by Provenance Inns) for a drink. This place is truly stunning, only opened in April and we will definitely be heading there for an overnight stay when the bedrooms are built. Full marks to the Provenance team for creating such great places.
