"One of the better hotels."
Fantastic room , reasonbly priced food and good service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Everything about the hospitality, rooms and food was great. Thirsk is not necessarily the most beautiful part of Yorkshire, but a good place to stop on your way North.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Left us speechless when we saw the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Immaculate, good service, clean and friendly, value for money and warm Yorkshire hospitality, thoroughly recommendedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A great, very modern and well equipped room. A really nice bar and restaurant with great food. Breakfast didn't start until 8am but I was in the area on business so had to leave by 8.00 but they were really accommodating and served me early and it was delicious. I wish I was there for leisure and could have stayed longer!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel is in a beautiful setting very quiet and peaceful - on the edge of the Yorkshire moors and only about 20 miles from York. Just an overnight stay BUT Great pub and hotel, friendly helpful staff. Room, bed, bathroom etc perfect. Food wonderful, very clean throughout. Smashing!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a fab room with views looking over the country side. There is a private patio with the room we were given. Unfortunately due to the weather we were unable to put it to use. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable hanging a sofa and chairs. The bathroom is very spacious offering both a bath and walk in showe with the choice of two shower […] heads. Plenty of toiletries are available. Tea and coffee making facilities were excellent with a cafeteire also provided. Fresh milk is also available. The food is excellent. You cannot fault the service all staff extremely attentive and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and respond to your needs quickly and efficiently. If there is one small criticism there were no face cloths in the bathroom. Breakfast had good choices something even for the most fussy eater. Again the staff at breakfast were professional and polite. Offering more tea/coffee and toast as required. Will define toy be staying again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The perfect Hotel for a shooting or country break"

It is difficult to find anything negative to say about the Carpenter's Arms. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, excellent selection of Ales, Lagers and anything else you could think of. The dinner was excellent in content, quality and quantity, a rare treat indeed! The wine list was comprehensive whilst not extortionate. The accommodation was superbly appointed and the views from my room in the annexe were fantastic. I am looking forward to next season's outing and another stay at this excellent establishment! In short: Bravo!

This establishment is first class. The staff are always attentive, friendly and deliver first class service. The food is highly recommended. Stayed overnight recently and the garden rooms are warm, comfortable and luxurious. Well worth a trip.

We stayed here for two nights and we were extremely impressed by both the rooms and the very friendly staff. The rooms are well decorated, immaculately clean and include luxurious touches such as bath robes, underfloor heating, high quality toiletries, feather pillows and an open fireplace. We loved the sitting area and DVD player too. The view from the rooms is lovely and we liked that you could come and go without having to walk through the main bar. The staff were very friendly and attentive at check in/out times, as well as during the breakfast (which was very good) and during the evening when using the bar for drinks and meals. Overall, a great stay and we will definitely return.
"Lovely 2 night stay."

Just returned home after a 2 night stay at The Carpenters Arms to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I looked long and hard to find what , I hoped, would be the perfect location for us and our elderly labrador and all my hard work certainly paid off I picked a gem. From the moment we arrived when we shown to our lovely garden room to us sadly leaving on Tuesday morning we had the best time. Our room ( Commondale) was clean, spacious, welcoming and warm. The open log effect gas fire adding to the cosy feeling of the sitting area. The bathroom was huge with a big bath, and a walk in shower with rain forest shower which was very refreshing. Bath robes were also provided. The bed was a large king size with lovely soft bedding. There was plenty of room for the two wardrobes ( one a with a drying area for wet clothes) a dressing table with overhead lighting, and an area with the honesty bar, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge which contained a bottle of milk none of those horrible little cartons of passes for fresh milk. There was a hairdryer provided and this was not hidden in a drawer or attached to the wall in the bathroom so it was easy and effective to use. Lttle things, I know, but they all go to make your stay more pleasant I feel. We ate both nights in the restaurant and the food was excellent. The service from the staff was very good, they suggested what was popular on the menu but in no way pushed it, the same with the wine but we had the house wine on the first night and that was very good and reasonable. We pushed the boat out the second night and went for a more expensive wine to go with our mouth watering steaks and that was devine. Breakfast was very good with some fresh fruit to start and although neither us could manage the full Yorkshire breakfast we did enjoy smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. We will certainly return for another visit and look forward to seeing all the wonderful staff again who all contributed to making this anniversary so memorable.
"Charming country inn"

Stayed in the Arden Room, which is a large room situated in the garden, overlooking the countryside. The room was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. The deal was £95 b&b which included a bottle of wine and £10 per person for a two course meal – this was part of their new monthly “Sunday supper club’ deal which includes live music, on this occasion by pianist - Dan Burnett. The staff are really attentive and extremely friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Food was good, we had a most enjoyable stay.
"Amazing service amazing food simply amazing"
As a big fan of the Durham Ox in crayke I thought it was time we checked out the carpenters arms. And it was just as brilliant Peter and James the two bar men were fantastic letting us try out several wines. Generally friendly and efficient. Secondly I would like to say a huge thanks to the manager Debbie who catered for all of our needs, and after being vegetarian for almost 16 years I thought I would try Seabass and wow it was delicious. No bad remarks at all to make, only that I shouldn't have had any more wine ! Thanks again Amazing staff friendly and efficient. Delicious food and clear wine list.
"Spot on overnight stay!"

Stayed as part of a birthday treat for my wife, our short visit didn't disappoint in any way. Located in a small village in the shadow of Mount St Johns just outside of Thirsk, the Carpenters Arms is ideally placed for exploring North Yorkshire and specifically the Moors National Park. From our arrival to checkout, we were well looked after by the friendly and professional staff. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff even managed to sort us out with some small room service items late on in the evening when the restaurant and the bar were absolutely rammed with diners. The garden room that we stayed in was top quality, full of great gadgets and very comfortable, which contributed to what was a total relax. Although we did not dine at the Carpenters, breakfast the following morning was outstanding and served in a superb garden dining room. We definitely will visit again and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Carpenters Arms.
"A meal in the restaurant"
01/29/14 trufflehunting2014 Northallerton, United Kingdom
We made ourselves know to the staff but became lost off their radar, it took an hour before we were seated. Service, the staff did not live up to the standard that they thought they had achieved. The person that served us was to busy “telling me”, rather than” listening to what I was asking for” Initially we seated just outside the restaurant, it was a little draughty and asked if we could move. Inside the restaurant the acoustics are not good, you could hear everyone’s conversation without trying The food was fine. Service, the staff did not live up to the standard that they thought they had achieved.
"Perfect for a relaxing weekend"

This was our 2nd visit to The Carpenters Arms and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. This time we stayed with friends and our dogs and we were very impressed with the whole experience. We had booked a garden room, The Danby, which was delightful. The room consists of a huge bed, seating area with chair and settee and a huge bathroom with lovely large bath and walk in shower. The room has a lovely feature fire which is very welcoming especially on a cold and wet January evening. They have the usual tea and coffee making facilities plus a nice touch, homemade shortbread. They also provided robes. Dogs are very welcome here, and they had left a dog bed and water bowl which was another nice touch. Check in was very easy and we were shown to our room by a friendly lady on reception. The bar and restaurant is beautifully decorated and feels cosy and welcoming. We had a delicious meal which all four of us enjoyed. It was all so well presented and portions were generous. There are a good choice of dishes on the menu. The staff were all so courteous and friendly, taking time to chat to us. Breakfast was again delicious. The cooked breakfast was very tasty and set us up for the day. There is nothing at all that we could fault here! We would certainly recommend it and hope to be back before too long.

Been here before the current owners had this place and was excellent. The food was amazing and not at all overpriced. This time we were very disappointed. Portions were very small. I would describe it as pub grub masquerading as nouvelle cuisine. Overpriced too, nearly £8 for 3 scallop starter. To us seemed a lot of emphasis being placed on the use of local produce as a reason to hitch up the prices. Menu nothing exciting or creative. Not a memorable experience. Wont be going back here.
