"Carpenters Arms"
Booked last minute stayed in main house. Room was spotless very comfy. Shower only no problem. Every member of staff so friendly and welcoming. Had lunch and dinner. Food and service was excellent. Gluten free options limited but overall choice was amazing. Would highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again on next visit to the area. Good beers and wine.

"Spectacular views in a peaceful setting"
We needed a quite retreat from a busy day time schedule. This was perfect, beautiful views across the vale of York for our garden room, off the beaten track but easy to reach. The 7 before 7 for £7.00 dinner menu worked very well for us but we were able to entertain friends for an evening meal too.

We had eaten here several times but this was our first stay. Excellent modern room with wonderful views across the vale of York. Very helpful and friendly staff, lovely meals: much more than a pub.

"Great place to stay."
Really nice place. The rooms are in a purpose built block to the rear of the pub. Our room was spotlessly clean and very nice. Loved the remote control log fire. Car park had plenty of space which makes a nice change. The food in the restaurant was of an extremely high quality and all of the staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.

"Fantastic place"
I can't rate this highly enough. The garden rooms are wonderful. Loved the heated floor in the gorgeous bathroom. Facilities in the room include a cafetiere and ground coffee, and fresh milk in the fridge. Really comfortable bed. Liked the remote control for the blinds, and the patio doors to your private outside seating area. It would be good to come in the winter time and use the log effect fire in the room. Excellent food in the restaurant and great breakfast. We would definitely recommend it and will go again.

"Just an excellent place to stay allround"
We stayed for a Bank holiday weekend to walk in the North Yorks Moors - the welcome was excellent and the cheeriness of the staff can not be faulted. We had a room in the pub building above the bar, which was excellent and there was little noise from the bar below. Breakfast was first class and the restaurant in the evening had a good choice and was equally as tasty as the breakfast.

A great, very modern and well equipped room. A really nice bar and restaurant with great food. Breakfast didn't start until 8am but I was in the area on business so had to leave by 8.00 but they were really accommodating and served me early and it was delicious. I wish I was there for leisure and could have stayed longer!

This hotel is in a beautiful setting very quiet and peaceful - on the edge of the Yorkshire moors and only about 20 miles from York. (you would need a car to get there) the gardens and rooms are great the restaurant is excellant and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. the rooms are fabulous and I wish we had been able to stay longer - I am hoping to get back there next year and to stay longer I would thoroughly recommend it.

"Romantic hideaway."
We had a fab room with views looking over the country side. There is a private patio with the room we were given. Unfortunately due to the weather we were unable to put it to use. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable hanging a sofa and chairs. The bathroom is very spacious offering both a bath and walk in showe with the choice of two shower heads. Plenty of toiletries are available. Tea and coffee making facilities were excellent with a cafeteire also provided. Fresh milk is also available. The food is excellent. You cannot fault the service all staff extremely attentive and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and respond to your needs quickly and efficiently. If there is one small criticism there were no face cloths in the bathroom. Breakfast had good choices something even for the most fussy eater. Again the staff at breakfast were professional and polite. Offering more tea/coffee and toast as required. Will define toy be staying again.

"Well Appointed Inn"
07/17/15 Ernie N dunfermline,scotland
The Carpenters Arms is a pub with 2 integral rooms and 8 'Garden Rooms' which are set next to the main building. We stayed in a Garden Room and found it well appointed with large main room incorporating large bed, settees and a wide-screen tv.There was a mini-bar,fridge and very generous wardrobes.A few high tech items - remote controlled windows and blind add to the convenience factor, while outside the room is an attractively designed garden area.Ample car parking, although if you arrive later in the evening you may find spaces at a premium near your room.Restaurant food was good but service was a bit slow, and we noticed compaints from 2 tables relating to problems they had encountered. Overall a very comfortable stay.

"Perfect hide-away!"
07/17/15 Ian L Scotland
About 3 miles from Thirsk, this country pub is a perfect hideaway in a very small village. Wonderful views from its hill-side location combined with extremely comfortable bedrooms and good pub-grub make it an idea stop-over. We stayed in one of the eight garden rooms. We had good night's sleep in an extremely comfortable king size bed. The en-suite bathroom with underfloor heating had both a walk in shower and a large bath. The dinner menu was somewhat limited, mainly pub-grub type, but the food was very good and well presented. Service for both dinner and breakfast was very slow - probably due to each dish being cooked specially. The only negative point occurred on check out when two separate errors were identified on the bill - including attempting to charge the pre-paid room rate! However, despite the invoicing errors we would have no hesitation in recommending this pub to anyone.

"Weekend luxury"

We stayed for 2nights & loved it here. We had our small dog with us who was made very welcome. The garden rooms are large but luxurious with a comfy bed/pillows, sofa, fire, huge bathroom & all the little extras that make this hotel better than average. No expense has been spared in these rooms. Staff are excellent, special mention to our waitress Ellie who was delightful. It has a great feel good factor about it & will definitely return in the future.

We've been to so many places and this one really stands out!! from the minute you arrive you are treated like you're spending a thousand pounds. Everyone is so nice and the place is gleaming!! We would recommend anyone to come here Tip-get one of the garden rooms they are a little more but well worth the money.

"Amazing Hotel"
07/08/15 Nicola C Northwich, United Kingdom
Booked a house room and was upgraded by the hotel to a Garden Room. The room was fabulous. Really beautifully decorated with its own garden/ patio area, a huge bed and massive bathroom with a bath, separate walk in shower and under-floor heating. A small lounge area too with a sofa, chair and TV and a lovely open fire. The gardens are gorgeous and the views are outstanding. The restaurant is fab, service was wonderful and the staff are so friendly. There is nothing negative I can say about this place. It also has a fridge and fresh milk and coffee with a small bar and an "honesty box" to pay for anything you have from the mini bar. Perfect.

"All mod cons in the accommodation"
07/06/15 Addycombe Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
We booked the hotel direct for two adjoining rooms for two nights. They gave us a deal with a generous meal and drink allowance based on four people though there were only three of us. Instructions at the entrance said to leave luggage in the car and they would assist with it. They did. They even assembled a wheelchair. Staff stayed back in the kitchen to provide us with a late lunch then helped us to the rooms. These are generous sized wooden framed buildings on a lower level than the main building. so they involved a wide ramp or stairs which were cleverly built on to the decking. The rooms connected perfectly with level floors and had a shower and wet room in one and a fascinating gas fire with remote control in the other. The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. there were plenty lights, electric sockets and radiators. The evening meals were well prepared and nicely presented. Service was good and friendly. When we asked for breakfast in the room and mentioned that we had our own special milk the server said they didn't have that in the kitchen but would make a point of getting some in the next morning. They did and brought us a selection of cereals as we hadn't specified which we wanted. The restaurant was quiet on the Friday night but full on the Saturday with lots of, presumably local, people who seemed to know each other. There were extra tables in the restaurant which prevented direct wheelchair access. Staff were very quick to come and assist and get us to and from the rooms. We forgot to use the remote control to close the blinds the first night. So the light came in through the windows in the roof. The second night we did close them but there were small gaps round the edges where the light got in. The only disappointment was that the garden didn't have any colour. But it seemed to be newly planted. So will probably be much better soon. The hotel is in a small village along country roads. An ideal place to relax or use as a base for visiting nearby Thirsk. Many thanks to the staff who really looked after us.

"Little gem in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside"
06/01/15 Raven0011 Wetherby, United Kingdom
We visit near here quite regularly as we enjoy walking on the Cleveland Way near the White Horse at Kilburn. However we pass the sign on the main road and keep promising ourselves to call in. This we did on the first bank holiday in May to have a drink and a look as we knew it had a good reputation. Whilst we were there I suggested to my husband that we could come back for a nights stay for our 26th Wedding Anniversary. I asked if room was available and we booked. Later in the month I said it seemed a shame to stay just the Friday night as we could only go once he had finished work. I contacted back but unfortunately it was booked up. However my plans changed and my parents drove me up in time for lunch and I asked if there had possibly been a cancellation for the extra night, and yes there had. That morning I had not checked my emails but they had contacted me with the offer of the Saturday night for £99. Lunch with my parents was lovely the food was great and the staff attentive and very professional. I checked into the Garden View room after lunch and my parents went home. Thankfully my husband got away early from work and we were able to have a walk for a while along the country roads before dinner. The hotel has 10 rooms(8 which are in the garden) which are very well appointed for all seasons. A remote control fire for when its chilly your own patio for sitting outside. A walk -in shower plus bath, a very comfortable bed. T.V with DVD player sofa and comfy chairs. The room was immaculate. The very popular bar and restaurant have a great atmosphere and the chef produce's some great food. Excellent wine list. What more can I say? Thanks to Vicky and her staff for making our stay so enjoyable. I would recommend if you want to stay book well in advance and choose a Garden view room.

"Do not stay in the main building"
05/31/15 Richard S Knaresborough, United Kingdom
Stayed here last night with my fiance and it was the last room available, i phoned earlier in the day to make sure the room had a bath and was assured that all did... I was shown to the room which did not have a bath?? The staff were really good and we managed to swap rooms big mistake! The rooms are described as supre kings when reality they are two singles joined really comfortable if you like to actually cuddle up to your partner! It gets worse.... there was a constant smell of effluent from the bathroom and realised why someone had taken part of the floor up in there which was a shoddy job ii'm in the building trade and a perfectionist and my customers appreciate this. We had to open the bedroom window leave the bathroom door open and open the velux window to get rid of the stench! Really not what i would have expected from a provenance inn very disappointed is an understatement dirty marks all over the chaise longues too. This was supposed to be a special night but was a waste of a saturday night. Not happy about the outcome of this either after talking to the manager in charge as they obviously did not perceive how much this affected our relationship that night!

"Fabulous birthday suprise!"
05/25/15 Hilary S Bedale, United Kingdom
My husband took me to The Carpenters Arms for an overnight birthday surprise and it didn't disappoint. He had booked us into a garden view room which was absolutely delightful. The seating area outside, the honesty bar, the dressing gowns and amazing view all contributed to its special & luxury feel. We thoroughly enjoyed the real ale that was on offer whilst enjoying the lovely views. Dinner was a delight; excellent and attentive service, great food and tasty wine. Breakfast was equally as good and I didn't want to go home. We are big fans of Provenance Inns and this is now our favourite. Can't wait to go back!
