I had flown in for my sons college graduation and was heading to Disney to meet family afterwords, so I wanted 1 day and night in a beautiful beach hotel and the Pelican Grand was it! The double king room right on the beach and the food was all perfect. I cant wait to come again and be able to stay longer!!

Beware of Owner rentals! The owner rentals are not maintained by the hotel, so they don't provide any assistance with those units. Keep this in mind. The owner rental I stayed in had an amazing ocean view and side balcony. The downside was it also had a dirty shower and water that smelled like really bad rotten eggs with a tint to it. I had to purchase […] my own bottles of water for brushing my teeth, drinking etc. Besides the owner rental the hotel itself was very accommodating, helpful and friendly. Everything was as advertised. It's a stretch to call the view "Intercoastal," but overall our stay was pleasant and the amenities what we expected. The free WIFI is a big plus for us; the $6.00 bottle of water not so much. The location of the hotel is convenient to everything, and the beach is some of the nicest beach along that stretch.

The hotel is exhibiting signs of deterioration and it is clear that the room price paid is not commensurate with the building's condition, which I would say is average. The service was also averge and not what was to be expected from what the online booking service rates as a 4-star lodging facility. Also, I would expect in the future to be told that […] I am renting a condo-tel unit and not a hotel unit. The level of service in a condo-tel does not compare to that of a hotel, which I was not made aware. There was also a lack of communication on the condo-tel unit owner's and the online reservation service's behalf that the highway on which this building fronts was closed during the four days of my stay thereby making access difficult and confusing for someone that has never been to this city (Fr. Lauderdale) before. I was also inconvenienced by the fact that I was told after renting my room that it was not available. Although the owner bumped me up to a superior suite for the 2nd and 3rd day of my stay, I had to sit around the lobby for five hours after checking out of the inferior room I stayed in during my first day. Overall, I would not return to this hotel/condo-tel and will avoid all non-national flag lodging facilities for fear of future non-disclosure by ownership and the online reservation service. not ocean-front...it is ocean SIDE. But the view is still good. MUST KNOW- there is no place to park here- it is all by valet...28$ plus tax per day. They do a great job at customer service here but this is a "condo rental" not a hotel room- so you don't get daily room cleaning or extra soaps if you need them.

The value was just not there. It was presented as being able to sleep four. It only sleeps three, so one of my kids had to sleep on the floor. There was mold all over the bathroom shower....bad. When we arrived we found the pull-out couch was broken beyond use. The front desk made it VERY clear that you were not to contact them with any issues regarding the condition of your room - so we ended up sleeping one person on the couch for the week. The whole reason we booked the room was that it's close to impossible to find rooms that fit 2 adults […] and 3 kids - standard rooms fit 4 people. The room itself was outdated. The hotel tv feed is HD but the old fashioned tv's are not flat screen, so half of what you are watching is off the screen. Not that big of a deal when the kids are watching spongebob anyway, but still. Finally, there was an OBNOXIOUS smell coming from the bathroom that could only have been the shower curtain. It literally smelled like someone had urinated on it. Once again we had no one to contact to find out how to get it washed - so we bought some fabreeze and sprayed the heck out if it every day just to be able to use the bathroom - it was a strong and pungent odor. Overall the hotel is great (restaurant service was too slow - took an hour to get a sandwich) and this could have been an awesome room, but since we could not get in touch with the owners to get easy problems fixed I give this experience a 2 1/2 stars. Great beachfront view and access. The pillows were really old and flat, the sheets felt rough and not enough of them. The night we stayed it rained and it was cold but if you have to ask the hotel for anything extra, blankets, towels, shampoo, etc, they charge you extra. when the Hotel got busy the service was a litter slower. The menus for both restaurants are limited. When we booked for our family of four we thought there would be enough beds but it had a king and a single chair pull out bed. Overall we had a great time!

Lobby and veranda for meals was exceptional. room nice size, but loud to street side. Advertised view to intercoastal waterways was a glimpse of a 100 yard stretch 1/2 mile away between highrises. Oceanside of the hotel is exceptional.

Hotel was nice but it needs some repairs and painting. Beach was not what I expected. It is almost completely eroded away to the point where they need to bring the chairs off the beach at night because the tide comes up to the retaining wall.

Based on my experience with this (intracoastal view) room, I would not save a few bucks off booking the actual hotel vs. going to the owner rental route. First off, the room was a handicap accessible room, which was NOT stated in the description. Second of all, during my stay one of the pumps at the hotel broke which caused glasses on the shelf to rattle […] for an hour it was so loud. Every other guest on my floor was relocated away from the noise EXCEPT for me because I was in an owner rental, so the hotel said there was nothing they could do. Thankfully they fixed the issue or I would have got no sleep. Third, even though it says the $35 cleaning fee is optional, they add it into the total and it can't be removed. Check your total taxes and fees and you will see that they will be over $50 ... so in actuality, you are not saving as much as you think by booking an owner rental because the taxes and fees are well over $50 vs. $17 on a hotel booking. Also, intracoastal views these are not. They look directly into another high rise building across a busy street. Read more

If you want to go out and enjoy the Ft. Lauderdale nightlife, it is not the place. If you want a private beach and a non-crowd resort, it is. An owner rental was $125 cheaper per night. I could not get the same room for my stay. I had Oceanview 2 bed suite (room 824) and King Intercoastal view room (room 625). Room 824 had a corner balcony and ok view […] of the ocean. The room was long and narrow. It included a bed area and a sitting room sectioned off with french doors. Everything was clean and in good condition. Room 625 however was a handicap accessible room, which wasn't mentioned when I booked. It had an 'intracoastal view' on the other side of the building from the ocean. Couldn't see the waterway from the room, just the street looking directly into another highrise hotel. The room was spacious and tidy. However, the handheld shower was cracked. One night, one of the pumps at the hotel acted up causing the whole floor to shake so hard it rattled cups on the nightstand. Most hotel guests on my floor were relocated to different rooms. Because I was in an owner rental, they told me I could not be moved. The noise stopped eventually. If anything goes wrong in the room, the hotel will not help you on owner rental. The hotel is doing a lot of work on its outside patio, there is plastic hanging everywhere and they were doing noisy work in the lobby. Not as relaxing as past visits. Next time at Pelican, I will not use owner rental. Read more

Love this place - one of my absolute favourites in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area. Rooms are huge with 2 queen beds and a separate living room with big, comfi couches and balcony with tables and chairs. The only two things that could use updating are the tile floor (tiles no longer stick to the concrete and crunch when you walk over them) and the […] room door. Since the hallway is semi-exterior, the door was hauling bad until I figured where to put the towels to stop it. Service is great and while enjoying the beach chairs, they come by with free ice cream in the afternoon and also have several sun tan lotions you can use free of charge by the pool cabana. Be aware that the check out time is 11 and check in time is 4. We arrived at 11 when the previous guest was checking out. At 1:30, we still didn't have our room. We were given the run around at the front desk and were told conflicting things by different front desk personnel, which I found extremely aggravating. I liked the hotel and the area. The staff was very good, except for room service the last day. They comped the breakfast due to timing and food errors. The room was outdated at best. Beware of the Owner units at The Pelican Grand because you can not get more towels nor do you get shampoo etc unless you pay the $35 cleaning fee. The rooms need to to be updated as I see they are in the slow process of doing.
