"Great potential"
Our first impression of Le Carre Noir was breathtaking. The drive up was dramatic, the view spectacular. The staff were cordial but we were offered no help with our bags and the key card system was down when we arrived. The rooms were very nice and the pool was beautiful, though we never saw anyone there. At first we had sticker shock from the price but as our vacation went on we realized that Corsica is just one expensive place to be. The location was great in that we were close to some of the finest beaches anywhere, but, otherwise, there is nothing else in the vicinity, as the hotel is in the middle of an enormous complex of residential cabins.

"Clean & beautiful view - not much else"
07/05/15 lauramanyap Brooklyn, NY
This was a very nice hotel, but for the price, I imagine you could find something better - especially if you do not have a FULL sea view. ROOMS: I had read PossumAdelaideSA's review below regarding the limited seaview for most of the rooms so emailed ahead of time. I don't know if I ended up with the best Superior room or got upgraded but we had an amazing view of the bay of Santa Giulia. Our room was # 102 conveniently located across from the reception area (not right there though) and downstairs from the pool. A/C was pretty good. Shower (no bath). Nice shampoo, conditioner, etc. Pool towels can be borrowed from reception. Rooms are cleaned daily - and really cleaned - like they mopped the floor every single day. LOCATION: The hotel is in a fine location - about a 10-15 minute drive to town or the beaches (Palombaggia and Tamaricciu). Santa Giulia is much closer. I think there might be 2 pools but we only swam in one (the circular one). It's small but really nice, beautiful color, clean, perfect temperature. The pool deck (on the roofs of the top rooms) never had more than 2 other people on it. No shade. Lounge chairs, same great sea view that we had from our room (we were right below the pool in Room 102). BIGGEST PROBLEM: The wifi is pretty much non-existent. I asked the front desk several times and never really got an answer. Don't expect to have any wifi if you stay here. It really seemed unacceptable given the price. I would have stayed elsewhere had I known. STAFF: Really nice & helpful. RESTAURANTS: we didn't eat at the main restaurant at all (why would you when there are so many other good ones?) but we did pay the 15 euro pp breakfast the first morning. Nothing great. A bunch of pastries and then pre-made omelettes. Good fresh-squeezed juices. Nice deck w/ shade to eat on.

"needs a little refining"

little new to add - poor wifi , windswept and unshaded pool area, somewhat unpredictable breakfast and rather sterile environment compensated by superb view and charming staff. Doesn't really feel like a four star €300 per night hotel

"Wasted opportunity"

This new hotel is built on a site with a stunning view of the bay of Santa Guilia but only a few rooms fully enjoy the wonderful view. Our room (303) had a squint view from one corner of the bedroom and none at all sitting on the terrace which was blocked by a waist high rendered wall and overgrown greenery. Our terrace looked onto a couple of square metres of sandy rubble and a tangle of black irrigation pipes bordering a side road. We had to get reception 3 times in our 4 day stay to help with the lock to our room which they found difficult to use themselves. The room and bathroom were a good size and adequately furnished but neither had any ventilation so fogged up with condensation whenever the shower was used or the air conditioner. All the rooms have to be accessed, some more than others, from outside staircases or courts as the only lift is to the pool. There was a gale when we arrived and in the following 4 days while we were there it was very windy and it rained. Getting luggage to rooms and getting to breakfast and to parked cars is not easy in these circumstances. The hotel seems to be only set up for high summer as the breakfast area was too small to cope with everyone eating indoors in these conditions. The staff were willing, dragging in tables and chairs, but it was all a bit chaotic. The breakfast is a buffet setup with cereal and yoghurt but no bowls on the table. Coffee is from a complicated machine which the staff 9 times out of 10 have to help with. The fruit set out on the buffet was tired and bruised when we arrived and was still the same on the last day but when we asked for a fresh orange and banana they were brought to us. The management and staff of the hotel were pleasant but appeared amateurish and inexperienced and were not able to give any information about the area or even how to get to their own restaurant. Once found however the restaurant was good and we ate there twice as the restaurants at Santa Guila weren't serving food when it was so cold and windy. WiFi was good and needed no login or password. From our experience I would say this is not a luxury hotel and if you are considering it in off season and are not assured of one of the top rooms, that is just across from the reception area, think again!

"Value for money"

From the 3 hotels we stayed in at Corsica (see also Castel d'Orcino and U Palazzu Serenu) I would certainly recommend this one. We had a lovely deluxe room (room 104) with a spacious bathroom (incl walk-in shower) and bedroom with a fantastic and very open view on the bay of Santa Giulia. Beds were comfortable and big. Breakfast is served on a terrace also overlooking the bay and contains fresh juices, fresh fruit, cheese, meat, cereals, croissants, cake,... You can have dinner in the hotel's own restaurant, which is a short drive away, further down the hill. Food here is pretty good, but the restaurant misses ambiance. There are also a few restaurants at the beach (e.g. Le Fort) and off course at Porto Vecchio, which is about 15 min drive. The swimming pool area is located at the topfloor, again with a great view over the bay. Plenty of beds, towels are available at reception. As mentionned in other reviews, the round swimming pool with black lining, feels strange at first (like jumping in a black hole) but you get over it ;-) Last but not least, staff is very helpfull and friendly and, for those who only speak English, they also do their best to help you in English. Given the location, the very comfortable rooms, the great view and service and an acceptable pricing, I consider this hotel a good choise.

"Great view and perfect for relaxation and quiet"

Everyone at the hotel was very friendly. Our first room was under the outdoor breakfast area and was noisy in the morning the first day, but they very kindly changed rooms for us and moved us to a very nice and quiet room on the side of the hotel. In general the hotel felt very relaxing and very quiet, exactly what we needed. Rooms are very nice with a fantastic view. The hotel is very close to the beautiful beaches of Santa Giulia (3mins) and Palombaggia (10mins).

"The best of Corsica"

It is a wonderful hotel, a fantastic service. Close to the best beaches in Corsica. We have stayed in a suite with wonderful views. The only remark: the main restuarant and poole were too far. But there was another smaller, round poole that we have enjoyed very much. The price a bit too hight... The breakfast was bery good, fresh squeeze orange juice...

"Wonderful Stay"
07/09/14 TeamGSD Cagliari, Italy
We stayed here for a few days at the start of our honeymoon, I would say it the best 4 Star Hotel I have stayed in, the service was excellent, the room lived up to the hotel sites website pictures and the view from the terrace and Pool were stunning. There are a few negative comments about the restaurant being 5 mins away but its really not a big deal and the food was excellent (memorable Magret de Canard). Although not the cheapest option it was worth it and I would definitely recommend and stay again.

"Highly recommended"

We stayed for a week in mid May and were blessed with sunshine every day, which enhanced the stunning view from the balcony over the bay. Most of the staff were very helpful, and one (Cloe) even spoke decent English. They always tried to help and were friendly at all times. The room was a good size, modern, clean and very comfortable. Breakfasts were a decent cold buffet. Wifi was a little unreliable but not too bad. Finding the hotel will probably be the only trouble you have here, but part of its appeal is that it's very quiet and off the beaten track. I didn't want to leave!

"Great views, awkard pool"
04/28/14 MrsHudgy Amsterdam, The Netherlands
The rooms were good and the view was great. Nothing more, nothing less. The roof terrace has a magnificant view, however, the swimming pool (a black hole) is slightly awkward. The water is very hot and the shape makes it awkward when there are other guests in it as well (small and no corners to relax at). When we stayed there, there was a lovely Italian girl at the desk helping us out, she made our stay very nice. However, other staff members seemed to be more selfoccupied and made it feel like a impersonal hotel. Yet, I would still recommend it.
