      We were really impressed by Moffatt House,having stayed in best western in u.s.a. we thought we knew what type of hotel we would stay in,we were wrong Moffatt excided this,staff were impecable,helpful,friendly.

    We planned on visiting Dumfries and Galloway area and this was a convenient location to Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and Stranraer. We had a big room... and comfortable ensuite with bath/shower, unlike typical British "wardrobe bathrooms", like typical Aussie ones. Pleasant owner and very helpful and friendly staff.     We stayed here because of its proximity to a weekend of a friend's birthday celebrations but wish we hadn't. The room was cold and there was no hot water until we passed comment. The towels and bed linen were not the pristine white you might hope for either. We love dogs and the owners (who were lovely welcoming people) had two kept in their room next […] to ours and, whilst they were friendly and nice to meet, as a result unfortunately the entire floor smelled strongly of dog. The decor throughout was very shabby (especially our bathroom) and the whole place just felt very tired. Read more

    We were travelling to the Dumfries area to visit the village where my mother-in-law spent her childhood. The Auldgirth Inn offered a family room at what was a very good price and it was in a great location for our trip. The building has lots of character and is a little quirky but this was exactly what I was looking for as we have stayed in too many […] modern build hotels. The room was very comfortable and had everything that we needed for our stay. The Inn has a fascinating history and the public areas are decorated with some fascinating items. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was one of the best we have ever experienced. We had a wonderful stay and will certainly be returning here, hopefully in the no too distant future. Read more
