"A truly 5 star hotel and resort"
This is a world class resort facility. It is truly magnificent in every respect. It is one of the finest hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. I can recommend this hotel with no reservations. If you stay here, you will not be disappointed.Genuine Expedia guest review
This Hotel is New, MGM Grand always high standard of Quality in service and design. Staff are trained and greet you politely anywhere when they meet you. ( in china this is excellent ). The respond to your request is immediate. The facilities are wide, especially for kids. Bread fast is crowded during the weekend. Food range is quite ok but very limited […] western food.75% is local food. Staying there is expensive, everything is chargeable not complimentary for kids bread fast. The high tea and the buffet in pool side and restaurant is expensive. The rooms is big and very comfortable bed and bathroom. The view is excellent ( garden and pool ). "Great hotel with new facilities"
The staff at the front desk kept talking to her coworker and ignored us when we wanted to check in... other than that, we had a great time. It's a fairly new hotel with clean room and nice facilitiesGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice but a little Disneyland and Poor Service"

A very nice looking, in fact stunning hotel from a distance, but look to close and you will see the cheap and nasty finsihes, lack of detailing and plane tackiness of things..... Rooms are large with very nice bathrooms, food was good quality, but very much charter fligth hotel food ....... but the rally big let down was the service ..... slow, at times surley, but most of the time noone could understand a word any of us were saying ....... I am English and have lived in India for 16 years ...... so I know the drill on communication issues ..... but this was worse than I have every experience ..... if you are english and can not speak maderin this is not a place to visit as no-one could speak a word of english .... not a word. My Indian friends were very frustrated with this and I was able to lean back and say "now you know what I put up with every day?" ..... I did enjoy my stay but it was not without it's very frustrating moments ..... not a place or a hotel I would return to tomorrow .....
"good discounted price"

Upon arrival in Sanya I ran into this hotel by chance; at the lobby I saw a discounted room rate for guests down by 20%. The hotel offers good facilities and faces the sea ( Yalong Bay) where not many tourists frequent. It is good to be away from the maddening crowd ( if you come in August or September) There are pools as well and the food in the restaruants is quite good. There is a movie night as well.
"Good for Madarin Speakers"
08/28/14 Thvanan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
MGM Grand Sanya is good for Mandarin Speakers but not good for English Speakers. There are a few staff who are able to speak in English. The room condition was not bad and slides' floors of kids swimming pools are not good enough for kids to go down the slide. Breakfast buffet was very good with nice ambiance. Should bring some food or drink from outside. One coke costs 45RMB. Dinner buffet or set menu costs about 450-500RMB per person.
"This hotel is awful"

Why is everyone saying this is a nice place? Everyone is smoking all over the place The rooms feels like a standard business hotel The service is awful no one has been trained to a 5 star level The place is packed because of the name MGM but to me it feels like a fake Chinese made product should call it MJM I am embarrassed to be a member of Mlife with this type of standard wake up GM!

My family and I really enjoyed our short break at this hotel. Starting with the staff they were excellent at all times. We chose the Golf view room, which was wonderful, spacious and modern, the room was cleaned thoroughly everday and fresh fruit also replenished daily. The breakfast buffet was extensive and the food wonderful, most days we skipped lunch because breakfast was so huge! The only time we had lunch was in Pinju restaurant, very expensive and the food wasn't great either. Drinks etc can be a little expensive here so make good use of the local supermarket, turn right out the main entrance and it's about a ten minute walk. There is a seafood buffet next to the swimming pool from 6pm until 9pm which seems a little pricey, but it's well worth the money, great seafood, lamb chops, steaks and much much more! The private beach and swimming pools are wonderful, very clean and well maintained. I noticed in some reviews people complained that wi-fi wasn't free, that doesn't seem to be the case now, wi-fi is free throughout.

Stayed there for vacation and enjoyed very day. New build hotel has everything for your pleasure. Beach is simply perfect! A bitter thing is a room service and restaurant prices, cold be less. In a final bill we had almost a half as a cafe`s and restaurants. Rooms are large and fresh,
"No free wifi"

The facilities were absolutely top-notch. The rooms are spatious and the food was really amazing. The beach at Yalong Bay was one of the best that I have ever visited. One huge minus: Wifi is not for free and the service level is not as high as what you would expect from a 5* facility!
"Just another hotel"

My first impression of this hotel is not that mind blowing. Check in was slow, while others mainly locals trying to cut queue. The thing is they didn't try to stop this as well. The warm weather makes it even more annoying to wait. The allocated room is at area B, we got a little lost as no staff is stationed along the corridor to guide us. Went to the reception to ask if there is other places for dinner other than the restaurants situated in the hotel, the lady told us that she is unfamiliar with this place, so she doesn't know. Seriously..... That's not a helpful reply coming from a staff working for a five star hotel. Luckily another staff pop out and gave us tips and directions. Other than the service, the bed is super comfy, and it's a spacious room. But I won't go back for sucky services when there is a whole stretch of hotels situated along the beach.
"Luxurious and worldclass beachfront hotel in Sanya"

MGM Sanya is a grand hotel, its new, clean, stylish with good quality finish (even when you looked at that closely). Things remain to be expensive onsite (and near site) with sunscreen fetching more than RMB200 and imported icrecream a whoping RMB70! Do take advantage of hiring a car with driver, we paid RMB800 for a 8 hour hire and it was worthwhile for 7 of us (with NO unwanted shopping stops). Another interesting thing we did was to hire family bikes at the front of hotel, again expensive but worth it (pls ride on the footpath). Our little one had a wonderful time at the beach, in the pool and riding the bike. We went to the birds nest national park and it was great fun too!

Check in: was super slow. english literacy is 1 out of 10. so expect some interesting exchanges if you're not fluent in mandarin. again, not sure why it took so long. the room rate they had for me was different to what i booked. after some calculations, we came to the same number. they didn't properly explain that in addition to the daily room rate, there was also a security deposit of $1000 yuan per day for incidentals. the room we got was a fair walk from the lobby area. down a ramp / stairs and another 75m or so to get to get to the lift. we also ended up with a room near the end of the corridor. We went and had lunch while waiting for our bags to arrive. everything is charged with an additional 15% surcharge. to begin with, everything onsite is already expensive. lunch ended up being just under AUD100 for 2 adults and 1 child. and we expected it to be. not being a native to the area, we didn't want to risk trying something outside that would make us regret it... so we were somewhat prepared to be slaughtered. Got back to hotel room, and no bags. went down to ask. they said they don't enter a guest room if the guest isn't in the room. fair enough. note to self: take my own bags to the room. the room: not what we asked for. had asked for a king and an extra rollaway (extra charge), got a twin with a roll away. check in dude didn't make this clear to me at check in and i only found out when we got to our room - first impression FAIL! went back down to ask if they had any rooms with a king bed, as per my booking request: was told no. but i looked around. the resort didn't feel like it was at full capacity. the pools were empty! he said to come back tomorrow and ask again... but WHY SHOULD I? Service FAIL! never had such a poor first impression of a RESORT in the first 30mins in the resort: with the first 20 mins spent waiting for the check in staff to work out my booking and 10mins of my time to get to my room and back down again to ask about my room and later on, my missing bags. the pools: lots of them. lots of pool side beds with adequate shelter. smoking seems to be allowed at the pool. you'd find the odd cigarette butt in the pool in the morning (prob due to the pool side dining option that is available to guests). pools aren't heated, but it doesn't need to be. by mid morning, the water is already nice and comfortable for a swim. lifeguards are nice, but have a weird policy about swimming rashies. told my wife and son that they were not allowed. yet, you'd see mainland chinese folk swimming in their t shirts. the room: spacious, but lots of wasted space. tiled floors which i dislike. the bathroom is rather narrow. comes with Etro amenities, but ironically, 'generic branded' tea and coffee for guests. Lighting is weird. 'ON' isn't always 'ON'... housekeeping also didn't get a chance to make up our room till really late despite us being at the pool from early morning to early afternoon. they did try to come back, but we told them it was our rest time. they were nice and polite and did a good job with housekeeping. the beach: is monitored by lifeguards and there is a specific area that is roped off for guests to play / swim in - sand gets really hot on hot days, really really hot. and the sand is also really coarse. dining options: plenty. we spent most of our days at Pin Ju - supposedly casual dining. but is very limited in choices compared to the more 'fine dining' restaurant, SILK, which ironically, was cheaper than it's 'casual counterpart' Pin Ju. Weird if you ask me! Silk is definitely my fave resto for the stay. friendly staff. good food! peking duck was a stand out, as was the crispy chicken. nothing we didn't like. and way cheaper... mind boggling! the MGM has good facilities for the young ones: a decided kids room with a ball pit, TV room, playground, toys for loan and also child minders. everything is clean and well maintained. Take note: it should cost no more than around 100 Yuan to get from the Sanya Phoenix airport to this property. Ask for the driver to use the meter. ignore the annoying people that try to hijack you as you exit the airport for a 'fare'. they will try to gouge you and gouge they will! the first couple of people wanted 200+ yuan to get to the hotel. we said no. eventually, we ended up with a cabbie that offered to take us for 150 yuan, only cos we couldn't make out the cowboys from the indians. the cabbie started the meter and 10 mins into the trip, he covered the meter with a piece of paper and when we got to the hotel, i saw that it was only 94 Yuan. We paid 150. lesson learnt. On departure, the nice hotel folk got us a cab. Meter used... and it was a 100 yuan ride to the airport. the idiot taxi driver took us to the domestic terminal instead of the international one. i asked him twice when he dropped us off if this was the international and he said yes. That's china for you. p.s. there's also a supermarket (turn left when you walk out) nearby, next to the marriott. just for local delights and snacks like coconut-everything and their famous pepper
