"Beautiful "old' China hotel"
This is a great example of a beautiful traditional Chinese hotel with authentic furnishings. The inner courtyard sets the tone with it's pond and well groomed landscaping. It has a very calming, serene feel to it, a lovely place to sit and relax. The staff is very welcoming and their service is outstanding. While we only stayed one night, this hotel […] is a jewel and I will return for a longer stay next time I visit Lijiang, China. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Gem in the heart of old town"
Service could not have been better. The staff went out of their way to help us with everything. Breakfast is excellent -- fresh fruit, made-to-order eggs, yogurt & muesli. Location is ideal --- right in the heart of the old town, but off on a secluded street so it's very quiet at night (as opposed to the rest of old town!).Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, lovely guest house"
Traditional guesthouse recently built on Lion Hill. Lovely antique furnishings throughout. Owner speaks excellent English and is very helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable but given wood build of house, the quiet depends on courtesy of other guests when they move around and talk in guesthouse. You can also hear the live music from the bar street below. […] We would not hesitate to stay here again given overall quality. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice design interior, not easy to reach the hotel"
Due to road maintance, we hv to call the hotel staffs to help us pick the luggages n take ten mins to go to the hotel, after a very tough Stoney road. No good breakfast Nice hotel design Clean toilet with unstable water pressure, but hot water is availableGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We stayed here for 3 nights. Our entry into Lijiang was less than pleasant because we should have booked transport to this hotel from the train station, but the friendly owner and staff made up for that initial trauma. It's location on the hill gives a great view of the old town and is very close main areas of the old town. The hotel is full of Chinese character with beautiful furniture and objects. A lovely small courtyard with fish pond and plants gives the feel of being in a beautiful Chinese house. The sunflower snacks are delicious! The only thing that spoils this great small hotel is the breakfast. I imagine the foods served are more to the Chinese palate. I would highly recommend this hotel.
"Stay in a movie scene in an ancient town"

Addresses in the old town are rather confusing and non-systematic, and thus I had my excuses spending a long time searching for the hotel. I asked a few locals and no one happened to know where the hotel or the address located. So if you wanna play hotel hunting in an old town, follow signs leading to Wenchang temple (文昌宮) and the hotel is simply at the foot of it. Make sure you ask for a map of the old town after you find the hotel, you'll need it! The view from the hotel overlooking the old town is simply magical and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is simple and meat free. I actually rather enjoyed their yogurt with no artificial flavours. And if you, like me, happen to like their sunflower seed crackers, they are rather generous and wouldn't mind you packing some takeout as you stroll around the town.
"A great option in the Old Town of Lijiang"

A lovely small hotel, on the hill overlooking the old town. Close enough to walk to town center. Good service and friendly staff speaking good english. A unique building. The town is busy and noisy at night but this is a good option to be able to see the sunset over the roofs, and walk to the old town easily. Wu's mansion is a welcome oasis of calm and serenity.

We enjoyed our stay here in an hotel with a difference. Very friendly staff and situated in the middle of the Old town in an original building with excellent atmosphere. Lijang was one of the most enjoyable places we stayed on our 21 day trip. Kit & Lesley Spencer
"Service above and beyond. A short climb to find the place."

We stayed for 4 nights. It took us a while to figure where the hotel is situated but once we called, they picked us up. If you arrive by taxi ask the driver to get you to the hill top, A few meters from the hotel. The service was above and beyond, we had many cookies and tea each time we passed the small reception. The room was nice and the location is perfect. The things need improvement are the night clubs noise till 11 pm and some ceiling wetness spots. Overall we are very happy with this hotel:)

great location, very cooperative and helpful staff, the owner speaks English very well and is very helpfull and informative. The view over the city is superb Make sure someone from the hotel will meet you or direct you from the entance of the old city if you have a carry on staff with you The hotel is beautifully designed, the lobby as well as the rooms and all of this for a reasonable price.

Authentic hotel in the middle of the old city. Super!! beds. Sympathic and friendly people. Lijiang itself is very crowdy (mostly Chinese tourists). The Park at the end of the old city with a view on Dragon Snow Mountain is very nice.
"Great location, away from the noisy bars"

We stayed here for a week, lovely traditional rooms, the ladies spoke a little English but very helpful in many ways, even walked us to bus stops that we wouldn't of ever found. There is a sister hotel the zen garden wuyi yard, the lady here speaks very good English and was very helpful in organizing a car ect. I would suggest stay in lijing for a couple of days them head to she shue about 20min taxi ride it is quieter town with still lots of bars ect
"Quiet, beautiful garden"

Zen Garden Hotel is located on the hillside above Lijiang, which makes it a much better place to stay than down in town. Lijiang is very touristy, busy and loud at night until midnight so it was nice to stay somewhere quiet to get away from the crowds. The view is great, especially at night! And the garden and common areas are just beautiful, like "old China" probably used to be. Rooms are ok and comfortable, and the staff is friendly.
"Lovely View, friendly helpful staff"

The hotel is located at the top most part of the old town, hence offering a great vantage view of the town, There are many other hotels/ inns along the climb up, but Zen Garden offers the best view. The staff are always friendly and quick to offer tea whenever I sat at the reception area. It is built in Naxi style and looks very well landscaped and decorated. The room is very well equipped with wifi and cable connections. Even the bathroom is well furnished with shampoo, shower cream, toothbrush and toothpaste - all in generous sizes. The towels are the whitest, cleanest and fluffiest you can find - beating those of international 5 star hotels. They sometimes offer you a yummy biscuit made of sunflower seeds - I was told it's their house specialty. In-room wifi is unstable, so I usually go to the reception area. That's when they always greet you warmly with tea. You can use their computer at the reception too. The old town is full of extremely loud bars and even tho the hotel is located right on top, you can hear the noise, so be prepared to get some quiet only after 11.30 pm. Walk softly and don't bang doors in the morning - you can hear everything in this house. The hot water shower is very hard to regulate - so be very careful. It is either cold, or extremely hot.
