Worst hotel I ever stayed in. Nobody at the reception. After waiting two hours, I went to a neighbor who called the owner of the hotel who has a business somewhere in Samos. He sent the cleaning lady who gave me the keys to a room, took the money for one night and went away. No amenities, except two small beds and towels.

Would be nice if it has wifi & telephone in the room.

Stayed four days at the turn of September and October. Except broken stove in both rooms (they offered to exchange our room after first night) everything was OK! Nice place, close to port and the sea, but still in the center of the town, both rooms in the upper floor offered lovely view (Castle of Licourgos Logotheles), our "new" room nr. 18 with even two opposite balcons and second (little) room with sofa. Friendly staff never disturbed us. Breakfasts in the not too distant coastal restaurant were modest, simple but delicious (eggs, two or three slices of bread, butter, jam, cake, dessert, coffee / tea, juice). I can fully recommend the hotel!
This hotel has the basic amenities for a short stay. The rooms are light and airy that include a two-burner stove, sink and a few kitchen utensils. Most rooms we saw include a balcony that is lovely for sitting to drink a coffee or have breakfast. For those traveling in the summer time, the air-conditioning works well especially for those rooms facing the afternoon sun. We found the rooms to be clean and overall comfortable.
The hotel itself is conveniently located a few hundred metres from the port, however for those arriving it can be a bit hard to find as the hotel sign is up a bit too high and cannot be easily seen from the street. If you need anything though, the proprietor (George) was a friendly person who was more than happy to help where possible.
I'd certainly stay there the next time I visit Pythagoreon.
We have stayed here twice now and if you are looking for an excellent base, that is clean and tidy (but basic) you can't go wrong with these studios.
You can't get much more central than these.
The cleaner was excellent and the room was ship shape.
The owner has opened a new complex and spends most of his time there.
The €30 for aircon is essential!!
Would stay here again, though Thomson have now removed it from its catalogue.
We stayed at the Mariona Studios for the sixth and (sadly) final time last September (2011). This means that Thomson no longer have a property in Pythagorion itself - the nearest, now being a 25 to 30 minute walk away, out towards the airport! So a big thanks to George the owner, who had to put up with the endless complaints from vistors who hadn't bothered to do their homework before booking their holidays - cheap and basic means cheap and basic! Personally we loved the place...
Having read the reviews before we booked we were prepared for a slightly sub standard hotel.
We were pleasantly surprised!
The hotel was by no means luxurious, however, having lived in Greece, it was typical of a budget Greek apartment.
The room was simple, but had everything we needed including a fridge with an ice box, 2 electric hob rings, sink and a lovely balcony with views of the church & castle at the top of the hill and wonderful sunsets over the mountains.
The location was fantastic, about 2/3 of the way up the main street and a 5 minute walk down to the main harbour lined with quaint restaurants and tavernas.
The locals are friendly and hospitable, and the resort is not overdeveloped and is wonderfully traditional. Saturday nights are wonderful with all the local families spilling out and filling the restaurants providing a superb atmosphere the "real Greece"!
We also visited Paradise beach and often had lunch (whatever had been prepared that day or a greek salad) at the little VW camper van on the beach.
All in all a lovely apartment in a great location, beautiful resort full of friendly people!!
I would also recommend the Irodeon Garden Restaurant!
I will add more photos of the room shortly!
Having read reviews before we arrived we were well prepared for the possibility that we would need to request an upstairs room, which we did. We had room 5, overlooking the street from the balcony and I have no complaints whatsoever. The room was basic but quaint and we did not have any problems with noise despite being so close to the main street. The cleaner did a fantastic job, visiting every day. I can honestly say I have no complaints about the accomodation.
The people of Samos are friendly and helpful, what distinguishes this island from others is the lack of British holidaying and working there. Not a bad thing, it has a more traditional and charming feel. There are some beautiful tavernas down on the marina and the waiters tend to recognise everyone!
We particularly liked Paradise beach which is reached by turning left at the bottom of the high street and following the road beyond the shops and tavernas towards the headland. On the way you will pass several tavernas with tables on the beach, Shirley Valentine style!
All in all I would highly recommend the resort and the Mariona.
We have just returned from our second visit to the Mariona in Samos and despite having read poor reports of it before we went were more than satisfied. The manager gave us the room we requested and it was spotless. It was cleaned every day and the linen changed mid week. Yes the rooms are smallish compared to some b ut it is Greece and a budget hotel.. We would go again if the situation arose. The postion is perfect and despite being in Pythagorion centre , very quiet.
We arrived at the Mariona Studios and were 'greeted' by a very unfriendly Greek man who treated us like criminals writing everyone's details from their passport. We were then shown to our rooms. We assumed from his attitude that he spoke very little English but a few days later realised how wrong we were.
On entering the room we assumed that we would walk onto the walk way through our room and be greeted by the balcony on the opposite side. We assumed wrong, the walk way was to be our balcony which other guests used for access to their rooms. Right next to the so called balcony was the largest tree you could imagine. The tree was so large that it took up every single bit of sunlight and air from the room.
The room it self was horrific, we have visited Greece and number of times and stayed in 1 star apartments that we were extremely delighted with. This room was more like a prison cell.
The catering facilities were literally a draining board and two hobs. This proved to be dangerous when making a simple sandwich and a drink as we ended up melting some plastic when we had accidentally knocked it over.
The shower turned into a bath when used as the drains were blocked. Even simple basics such as light bulbs had been removed and not replaced.
We spoke to the rep as we were suffering from the lack of air due to the large tree and no balcony. She came to the room and agreed that the room was unbearable due to the lack of oxygen. It was agreed that air conditioning would be offered free of charge. However, when the owner turned up to demonstrate how to use the air condition he charged for the service. We tried to explain why we were being given the service for free but was confronted by a very aggressive obnoxious man. He went away and returned within seconds with a machete and started hacking at the tree like a lunatic. He then began shouting and becoming aggressive towards my wife as she tried to explain what the problem was.
As my wife was so devastated by the whole experience we spent the next day looking for a new accommodation that we could move into for the remainder of the holiday. However we were told by the travel company that if we took this action we would be breaking the holiday contract and were worried that when we got home wouldn't be allowed to put our complaints forward to avoid any one ever experiencing what we have experienced and therefore had to stay in the apartments. It was very uncomfortable as we were unsure if we would bump into the owner again. Luckily he was never to be seen.
It is such a shame that there are owners such as him on the island as the island is so beautiful. We will be returning but on an independent holiday next time.
Surpassed in mediocrity only by the Thomson reps. looking after it (lol)
We hope the Thomson Group take on board the complaints made by numerous holidaymakers to this accommodation and these reps. on the questionnaire filled in on return flights.
Particularly ones delayed by more than 18 hours, a cheese sandwich and a bottle of water after more than 2hours delay was laughable, as was the lack of information from the Thomson reps. on duty at the airport.
Everything about this hotel screams that no one cares- the owner was never there ,the toilet seat hung off as did the wall lights and bathroom cabinet ,The pillows were so thin and lumpy we had to roll up a blanket to lie on .The air con wouldnt go below 27 degrees and the balcony so small that the air con unit blew warm air in our face .Dont be put off visiting Pythagorion its beautiful but do yourself a favour you deserve a holiday and this place certainly cant give you that ..
