"simple, nice, safe, great bargain!"
I stayed on the women-only floor. It was clean and safe. Room was tiny and very no frills, but ac worked well. The front desk staff was English speaking and top rate, quite exceptional. The kitchen and dining space in the lobby gives you a place to eat meals. There's tea and coffee for free. A nice place to stay near train station and temple. Fun to […] walk around neighborhood. "Great Staff, Pretty Great Overall"
Room was a little on the small side, even by Tokyo standards, but functional. My partner felt like the beds were a little hard, but I think it was comparable to the other beds we slept on in Japan. Showers were nice. Shampoo + Body Wash included, and a towel is provided. There's a reasonably priced coin-op laundry on the first floor, and the staff will […] sell you a scoop of detergent. Location is pretty good; about a ten minute walk south of the Minamisenju Station (which is just a stop or two from the big and central Ueno station). WiFi worked great; felt quite fast. Not really a big deal, but despite calling itself a hotel this place totally feels like a hostel. Air Conditioning worked well. I also had an excellent experience with the staff. Without going too much in to the backstory, I know only a tiny bit of Japanese, but needed to communicate with the staff of a different hotel about some reservation changes. The (english and japanese speaking) woman at the Palace Japan Hotel was willing to play translator for me, going beyond what I would expect from someone in her position, and thanks entirely to her help, we were able to make the necessary changes. For this reason alone I would recommend the place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good economical hotel with good train access"
Clean, efficient hotel with all the basics. It's in a real down-to-earth shitamachi in the midst of an aggressive gentrification. The neighborhood used to have a large execution ground as well as red light district from 18th and 19th century. There used to be a lot more homeless people in the area, but the aging population along with the gentrification […] is making them less visible for better or worse. "Nice little hotel"
This hotel is located in Minamisenju area. This area is quite little place north of Asakusa. At night you can see the lighted up Tokyo Skytree. 5 minutes from the Minamisenju station, which provide JR, Tokyo Metro, and the TX line. So as for transportation goes, its very convenient once you know how to navigate through the complicated railway system. […] Convenient stores and supermarket is just across the street, small resturants are everywhere. Even the chained stores are located near the Minamisenju station. I booked a single room for 5 nights. The whole floor share a bathroom with three showers, and one stand alone female toilet. Overall the room Is clean, but might need to touch up some paint on the wall. The closet Is not filthy, but its a bit dusty. While the bed remains comfy, one thing I have to point out is that the pillow is not too good. Its filled with plastic bead-like material. A mini fridge is included in the room, so you can store food or drinks. This place has English speaking staff and its very nice for its value. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"I hate titles"
The room was as advertised- small and with a separate, shared bathroom. That wasn't a surprise. It was functional and cheap. The walk to the train station was about 5-10 mins, so not too bad. My room did smell a little bit... maybe like a (wet) dog or cat or something.Genuine Expedia guest review

room quite small for family, shared bathrooms are quite good and clean but very cold in winter, should have some heater. Very satisfied! I'm first time visitor! I like this hotel ALL. convenient location, clean and neat room, very great price. Will stay this hotel when I visit Japan/Tokyo second time in near future... SOON!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent Cheap Option"
two-person bunk bed room was convenient and well-priced. TVs were available for each bed, and there was plenty of closet space (although the room itself is closed quarters). Shared bathroom is VERY CLEAN. individual shower units ensure privacy. Worth it if on a budget, especially in such an expensive country as Japan.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

only complaint was that the room smelt of stale cigarettes.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Okay for a few nights"
I only stayed there for one night, but it was very clean and the bathroom/showers were literally a step away from my room. It was a tiny room, but at the same time very clean and comfortable. I would stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Close to Metro stop, Sensoji Temple and Sky Tree"
It is a nice, clean little hotel. Provides eating and cooking facilities. Also two computers in the dining area. The rooms are small, but we did not spend much time in them except to sleep and recharge for the next day. Quiet and comfortable. The ladies at the front desk, Ko and Keiko, were very helpful with everything. We would definitely stay here […] again. Air conditioning was very good, with new units just installed. "Can't be beat for the price"
Hotel was new and clean. I believe the majority of rooms use the communal bathrooms, which were always clean and effective. The showers in particular were very good. I had a single room for a week. It was small, but had a nice sized locker for my large backpack. The small TV didn't really have English programming, but it was present. As was a small […] refrigerator. The climate control was also new and effective. They don't clean your room during the stay (you might be able to ask, but I didn't) and the towels are small/ unchanged during the stay as well. The other shared areas are OK, the multiple paid laundry machines and free computers are a big plus, as is the free wi-fi. They have a small kitchen with free tea and coffee, as well as appliances so you can cook. The neighborhood is very utilitarian, with almost nothing to see within walking distance. However the Minami Senju station is a short walk away and has several lines and is a short ride away from even more connections and sights. Overall, for the price I think it's a pretty good deal, and a good choice for an extremely budget hotel in Tokyo. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Helpful staff near a convenient train station"
The small rooms are easily redeemed by the cost and location of this hotel. The single room rate is the cheapest in Tokyo aside from capsules and shared hostel rooms that I could find. It was very clean and the restrooms had roomy showers and the high-tech "washlet" toilets Japan is famous for. My room featured a bunk bed with a tv and lamp installed […] for each individual bed, as well as a small refrigerator, table, stool, and trash can. It is a short walk from the Minami-Senju train station, only two stops from the Yamanote line. It is also very close to the brand-new Sky Tree tower in Tokyo. The staff were very kind and helpful. There is a kitchen, vending machines, tables, and two computers with Internet on the 1st floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Friendly staff. Depends on the day when an English speaking staff will be at the front desk. Rooms are clean and pretty comfortable--just remember this isn't a place you lounge. It's a nice place to return to after a 10 hour day of wandering and sightseeing.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Would absolutely stay again."
This was a really nice place to stay. We had come from staying in hostels in Hong Kong & Singapore and this was better than both, while similar price. We stayed in a family room (2 sets of bunks) for 3 nights and 2 double rooms for one night. After 2 nights, we left and went to Kyoto, and the hostel was happy to old our luggage for us for the night […] (we didn't want to take it all with us). We then returned there for another 2 nights. On the last day, we checked out, but our flight wasn't until late, so the hostel again was happy to hold our luggage. Its only a 10 minute walk (max) to the train station (Tokyo metro and JR Minami Senju). We walked it at 10.30pm at night with all our luggage, and it wasn't far and we felt perfectly safe. Follow the instructions given on the hostel website, they are accurate & easy to follow. Once you are on the main road, just keep going straight, you cross about 3 intersections. There is a 7-Eleven on the right hand side, the hostel is on the left after about 100 metres. All bathrooms and toilets are clean. We never had any concerns in our 2 teenage children going to the toilet or showers at any time of the night. The ladies on the front desk are extremely helpful, and happy to answer any questions. Your room key is also the key to the back door, so you can come and go as you please. Reception closes at 11pm, but I emailed them to let them know our flight didn't arrive until late, so they stayed open for us. Will definitely stay here again. "Awesome place to stay for everyone!"
This hotel is about a 7 minute walk from Minami-senju station after exiting from the south exit. The path en-route is rough so be sure your luggage wheels are oiled! Bright red bikes for rent, 3 vending machines and wooden tables and chairs mark where the entrance is just ahead. Upon entering, you're greeted and promptly asked if you'll be staying today. […] The receptionist explains their services available and I must recommend checking out the view of Tokyo Skytree from the 7th floor at night. The single rooms are just the right size but you might find a bit of a squeeze in the bunk bed rooms. The hotel is equipped with 4 washing machines (200 yen) and dryers (100 yen) if you wish to do laundry. Bring hangers if you do! The kitchen area is shared by everyone, appropriately supplied with condiments, coffee, tea, utensils etc. 2 Macs are available for use free of charge! 7-11 and Lawsons are nearby if you feel hungry at night. Make sure to get there before 0000hrs or you'll find yourself standing outside a locked front door with no way to check-in. The key you get upon check in allows access to the back door after 0000hrs. Every floor has a common toilet and 3 shower rooms (with doors of course) and one for females if you aren't comfortable with using the common. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building F.O.C. "Good hotel, but a little out of the way for most."
The hotel was very good, the staff were very friendly. The only issue I had with my stay was the difficulty in getting to places of interest. The buses from this area to the center of Tokyo are infrequent, but inexpensive. If you want to visit the Sky Tree or Sensoji Temple, you are better off walking than waiting for a bus. Other than the location, […] the hotel was excellent. if I were to visit Tokyo again, I would likely stay at this hotel, as I have now seen much of the city center, and so would explore the outer reaches of Tokyo, which are closer to this hotel. "Small room but pleasant stay"
The web says 5min walk from minami-senju station, but it would probably take 10min, or 15min if you are having your luggage with you. Its pretty near asakusa area, I walked to senso-ji from the hotel when I was there. The room was really small, just enough for a single person. Couple or family sharing one room might find it too cramped. I didn't had […] any walking space once I placed my luggage flat on the floor and the door would sometimes bump into my luggage when I am going in and out of the room. But for the price paid, the room and facilities were pretty good. There is hot and cold water and a microwave on the 1st floor. The bathrooms were really clean. Some miscommunication occurred between Expedia and the hotel. I was told by the hotel staff that Expedia didn't inform them about my request for the ladies floor, so I ended up staying on the 7th floor which was kinda inconvenient as the toilet on the 7th floor was for male, so I had to use the toilet on the 8th floor. Not sure if the showers on the 7th are only for male as well or its mixed, but I went up to 8th floor for shower and toilet and everything else throughout my stay. And I was staying in the room beside the smoking area(the stairs area), the smell keep coming into my room whenever someone is smoking out there. Apart from the two points mentioned above, everything was quite pleasant. The staff I met was able to speak fluent English and even offered me a map of the area. "Cosy and clean, in a quiet neighbourhood"
Though Palace Japan is located a little further away from downtown Tokyo, the nearest subway station is on the Hibiya line that lets you access major stations conveniently e.g. Ueno, Ginza, etc. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Minami-senju station which is alright if the weather is fine but may be a challenge if the weather was typhooning like it […] was when we were there due to the strong rain/winds and having to cross an overhead bridge! However, there are many eateries located conveniently in the vicinity as the hotel is in a mainly residential neighbourhood, and right across the road there is a 24-hour supermarket with a little stand outside that sells yakitori grilled on the spot. Other than that, we were pleased with the cleanliness and facilities provided. Our room was a little small (but that is to be expected in Tokyo) but cosy. Guests are provided with towels and toothbrushes. The staff were also helpful in giving us directions and information about the area. (Do bear in mind that only 1 or 2 staff are able to speak English though.) My friend ordered something online and had it delivered to the hotel and the staff helped us to receive the parcel while we were out. Overall, I would stay here again if I ever travel to Tokyo again. "A great time in Tokyo"
I really enjoyed staying at the Palace japan hotel and my time in Tokyo. Palace Japan is a bit off the tourist trail in Tokyo but is only 5 minutes walk from the nearest metro station. "Great place to stay!"
It was such a pleasant and comfortable stay. The staff were very helpful and lovely too.Genuine Expedia guest review
Palace Japan Hotel is typical of 'business hotels' for Japanese salary men and western backpackers. The room is small, and comes with 2 bunk beds, each with its own TV. Bathroom facilities are shared among travellers staying on the same floor; they are clean and well maintained. The hotel is located in the Asakusa area of Tokyo, and within 20-minute […] walking distance of the Tokyo Sky Tree. It is also in proximity to Senso-ji Temple. It takes about 10 minutes walking from the hotel to Minami-senju stations (both JR and Private); from there, it is a 3-stop on the JR Joban Line to JR Ueno Station where travellers can access different areas of Tokyo via the JR Yamanote Line, as well as different cities/regions of Japan via the JR Shinkansen services. The front desk staff was very helpful and courteous. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent value for money"
Palace hotel Japan exceeded my expectations. I got the room quite cheap and I knew it was a single room with shared bathroom. However the bathroom was big and conveniently located so this was not an issue. The room was small but it was good enough for my needs (solo traveller). The staff are really nice and speak good English. The hotel was very modern […] in terms of its decor. It is 2 stops away from the yamanote line which was convenient for exploring and it is all covered by the rail pass. It's a 20 min walk to asakusa which has a lot going on, but immediately around the hotel there are not that many restaurants, although there is a supermarket. Overall a really good place if you just want somewhere simple and good value especially if you're alone. I would recommend to a friend! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly, comfy, clean. Great for budget travel"
It's a budget hotel located very close to the Minami-Senju station on the Hibiya line of the metro and the JR rail services so transportation is excellent. Food is available from a 7-11 over the road and a supermarket round the corner The room itself is clean, small and functional with a bed, desk, wardrobe, TV and air conditioning, with enough room […] for luggage. I took a rucksack and there was ample room. If you took more than one suitcase however, you might struggle. The bathrooms are shared between a floor and are clean and well maintained. I never had to wait to use a sink, toilet or shower. Downstairs there are two computers, a TV and free unlimited hot drinks. Wi-fi is present throughout the hotel and the connection is good. My only issue is that there is marked difference in the proficiency of English between members of staff there; some speak fluent English, some a few words. That's not really a fault of the hotel, mostly ignorance on my part, but it can be difficult to arrange things like a late check out due to a lack of communication. However this is easily rectified with a phrase book or Google translate. I would easily recommend this hotel to others because it's clean, well maintained and provides exactly what you want from a budget hotel (presuming that you will be spending most of your time in Tokyo); it's somewhere comfortable to sleep, and it's got the best transport links . If I were heading back to Tokyo, I would be happy to stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Functional for sleep, but not comfort."
I have traveled frequently in Japan, but the room size is quite small even by Japan standards. Most disappointing was the lack of cleanliness of the bed. I found hairs from previous customers on my sheets. Service was friendly and assisted with my questions. Free in-room Wifi was a big plus. Shared bathroom facilities were in clean condition, only […] my room felt dirty. The hotel (hostel) is situated in Minami-Senju which means a train, bus ride or long walk to get to the main JR Yamanote train line around Tokyo. Generally that meant leaving the hotel in the morning and not returning until late evening. I used lockers around Tokyo to store goods during the day so I didn't have to return to the MS area. Also, this area does not have much in the way of evening entertainment. This is generally a problem with this area that offers discount hotels, not this particular hotel.
