Old World Charm and superb food
The Pheasant is a beautiful old inn in a great part of the English Lake District. Don't expect a shiny new building; it has great charm and character. The area had just experienced a very bad flood when we were there, but the owners still went out of their way to make people welcome. The food is wonderful - everything fresh and beautifully cooked.

Yummy Eggs Benedict
Booked here as we were attending a wedding at nearby Armathwaite Hall; The Pheasant made us very welcome on arrival. We had a drink in the sunshine in their quiet beer garden before checking out the room. The room was very clean, comfy bed, solid furniture with plenty of hanging & storage. The decor was a little chintzy & wallpaper needed attention as was peeling in the bathroom & bedroom in places. Our room 'matterdale' was at the back of the hotel, this was quiet overnight but early morning deliveries & the kitchen fan could be disturbing for those liking a sleep in. Breakfast on both mornings was tasty & I can highly recommend the Eggs Benedict! Overall a perfect couple of nights stay handy for the wedding venue.

Pheasant Inn Feb 15
Lovely characterful country inn. Log fires were kept going all day. Food and service were excellent. Only slight niggle was that decoration in the en-suite bathroom was deteriorating in some areas from what seemed to be a minor damp problem. Overall, however, we would definitely stay again.

Nostalgic return.
Very good indeed, stayed for our honeymoon and returned 50 years later. Extension and update of rooms had been made but were unobtrusive and the ambience had boon preserved. The new road A66 was near but the hotel is well insulated from noise and visual impact.
